One word: WOW! Fabulous, FRESH food that will make you drool just thinkin' about it later! You will miss Torchy's like crazy if you're from out of town, like we are. We were a group of 5 sisters from states as far away as Michigan, New Mexico, and Utah (came to see Magnolia Market). We took a chance on Torchy's because of the great reviews here on Yelp. Their guacamole is A+++! We could not get enough. We wanted to buy a gallon of that green goodness. Words do not suffice! Everyone in our group got something different, and we ALL loved our food! The salads were fantastic! I personally wasn't fond of the citrus vinaigrette, so I used a few other sauces they had instead (which was a great choice for me, I wanted it more spicy! And I wanted to taste their fun sauce flavors.) The Democrat taco was superb - loaded with delicious meat. The only perhaps 'drawback' was the unusual soda flavors. Most in our group really wanted their favorite beverages. But I thought it was fun to try something new! My advice: Have an open mind! I'm sure you will enjoy whatever you try at this fantastic little gem of a restaurant, Torchy's Tacos. And if you're from Waco (or nearby), count your blessings!!! read more

This was our first visit. Clean, comfortable establishment. Thrilled they had vegetarian options. We enjoyed the fried avocado tacos a lot and liked the fried portobello mushroom tacos fine (not a fan of the black refried beans). The sauce they give you to put on the tacos is awesome!! Queso and chips are a must have--so delish! You'll want the Queso to round out your meal since 2 tacos may not cut it to fill your belly. 1 certainly won't. It is pricey... Waited 28 minutes for a cold baja shrimp taco. Queso was off- seemed spicier than normal and no avocado in the queso. Outdoor tables needed to be cleaned- customers should not have to clean bird droppings off of the tables. read more

I'll admit, I'm biased. Torchy's is a chain, but it's a joint beloved by Baylor University kids. Pretty standard bevy of queso, Tex-mex tacos, and happy hour drinks. A lot of great memories, but wouldn't go here solely based on the good food. Kinda grows on you the more often you go :) read more

The guacamole here is some of my favorite - big chunks of avocado and no tomatoes! Could eat it with a spoon. The wait can be a little lengthy during peak hours but it's definitely worth it. I highly recommend the Trailer Park Taco - make sure you get it trashy. They have a taco of the month that's usually festive and pretty delicious. read more

We stopped at this location because we recognized the name. This place definitely did not disappoint as far as the quality of our food. I was also impressed that they offered us more chips for our queso they've never done that at our regular Houston location. If I was ever in the area I would definitely stop by again. Tacos, queso and guac were all bomb. Visiting from NY and my girlfriend from LA said we HAD to stop here while in TX. I was the DD so I couldn't try a margarita, but they looked amazing too. Not much to say other than bomb-diggity! In my opinion, this is the pinnacle of taco establishments. The variety is excellent and if I'm in the mood for breakfast at dinner I can get a Ranch Hand (fajita beef, egg, cheese and Diablo sauce) and mix it with a Crossroads (brisket, avocado, grilled onion, jalapeño, jack cheese, and cilantro). Another plus is they allow you to choose from flour or corn tortillas. I don't like corn tortillas so this is perfect for me. The flour tortillas are nice and fluffy and have a bit of a chew to them. They are solid enough to keep the mound of toppings in the taco the entire time you eat it. The chips are thin and crispy. I'm not a huge fan of the hot sauce (too vinegary for me) but my wife liked it. The quest was solid. My favorite sauce was the poblano sauce (think Chuy's jalapeño ranch) that comes with the Trailer Park taco (Fried chicken strip lettuce, cheese and green chile). read more

Let me preface this review by saying that I live in Austin where there are tons of Torchy's. And I LOVE the Austin Torchy's. We are headed up to Oklahoma City and wanted some tacos for dinner. The place was moderately busy (it's a Friday night) and we got our order to go. We waited about 15min for a food that was not even hot, maybe warm when we received it. I ordered the Trashy Trailer Park, which is the only taco I get. It was not covered in queso and the breading on the chicken was soggy. My friend said hers was so salty she couldn't even finish. I'm so upset because I love Torchy's, but this is not the same one I love. Drive the extra 3hrs for the right one. read more

Best place for Taco's in Waco. Their guacamole is the best I've had at a restaurant (yes, theirs is better than Chipotle). I get the "Independent" taco, which is a deep fried portabella mushroom strip and an avocado slice. Make it Vegan by holding the cheese. Quality stuff and a very friendly staff. read more

Stopped in our way out of town, glad we did! This is not your typical taco joint and if you are looking for tacos 'auténticos' this isn't going to be your option. However, this is a culinary take on the taco and executes very well. Don't get sticker shock by the price of the tacos, they are served on two 5-6 inch tortillas with enough toppings to make two well served tacos. Girl at the register was extremely helpful in walking me through the menu, sharing her perspectives and being kind. She smiled and was courteous throughout, difficult to find with those her age. Ended up ordering 2 tacos and the Mexican street corn as well as a quesadilla for my son. First taco was the Trailer Park and I got it "trashy" which means you top it with queso. It was fantastic! The second was the Crossroads, a beef brisket taco. Super moist and tender beef, full of fantastic brisket flavor! I wasn't a fan of their Mexican street corn. They used yellow corn that felt like it was from a can and did not use any Mexican crema.....wasn't bad by any means, just not 'auténtico' and in this case, I want auténtico! Had lunch at Torchy's yesterday with my mom and sister, and it didn't disappoint!!! Always fresh and delicious! I had Mr Orange, and it was phenomenal! That salmon in a taco... wow! So perfect! It was my mom's first time, and she went for a Democrat, and loved it so much she bought a T-shirt! My sister loves this place as much as I do, she ordered a Democrat and a Crossroads, and we got chips and cheese for the table. Good food. Good ambience. Good customer service. I expected a long line due to it being a new location, but not because of technical difficulties. Their register is slow in accepting receipts and the reason for the delay even when it's not that full. Line out the door but a ton of empty tables everywhere. Food truck in Killeen, Texas really is overcharging on tacos we ordered one taco for $7 which is completely crazy to believe a place would do that especially in a town this small. I always want to love it here but they consistently let me down. Friday night at 9:30 and a line to the door- which would've been ok if the reason hadn't been that there was only one girl taking orders. When our queso came out it was cold and we had to send it back. (The table next to us sent theirs back for the same reasob.) The chips were all broken up and they very obviously had not brought out a fresh batch in hours. Took forever to get our margaritas, and my husband's (on the rocks) was weird....flat and watered down. Mine was good (frozen.) when our tacos came out we were told that they were all out of chipotle sauce. Which is my favorite part of torchys. Tacos were good. Overall- 3 star experience. It's ok. Their salsa is really good, but their tortillas are terrible. I know this place is popular, but I don't see the fuss. The tacos are ok, but nothing special. And the prices are pretty expensive for what you get. $10 for 1 taco, chips and salsa, and a drink. Sorry I'm from South Texas where we can get an order of 6 tacos, half a baked potato, charro beans, and a drink for $8 and the tacos are infinitely better. Another great find that my friend took me to while visiting Waco. Ordered two different tacos (the Tipsy Chick and Chicken Fajita) and every bite was scrumptious! I love Torchy's but the Waco location, not so much. We stood in line for 20+ minutes on a Saturday afternoon around 2 pm. It took another 20 minutes for the food to make it to the table. The Chicken Fajita Taco was the smallest I've ever had from any Torchy's and I discovered a big chunk of beef brisket in it when eating it--gross! I realize with open-air dining flies can be an issue but this location had them in droves (including the bathrooms). Who wants to be waving off flies continuously while trying to eat a meal? read more

Our Sunday tradition is Torchy's tacos after Mass -- we look forward to it all week. Torchy's gets the basics right -- their guacamole is the best in town and the salsa is great. We almost always get the monthly special taco -- the flavor combinations are delicious. Surprising ingredients like pickles, fried plantains, and pineapple cole slaw are fresh and unique without being gimmicky. The menu accommodates my husband's gluten allergy with minor adjustments (substituting corn for flour tortilla, asking for grilled rather than breaded/fried chicken). Fuego is closer to our home but all five of us prefer Torchy's. read more

Had torchys today for the first time. What an awesome place. If you like fish/shrimp tacos I promise you it doesn't get any better. I had a Baja shrimp taco and Mr Orange (salmon taco) and both were perfect! We also had chips and queso which were great. As for the drinks we had a strawberry swirl that was as good as it gets and an awesome local craft beer. I wish that I had a torchys closer to home! Also we had OUTSTANDING customer service from the moment we walked in. There was an African American girl who was an angel! They do not care about cross contamination. We told them I am allergic to pork. They assured us there would be no issue ordering a potato, egg, cheese taco. There was bacon--they gave us a five dollar burn card and assured us they would be much more careful about cross contamination. Fast forward a month, we decide--albeit stupidly in retrospect--to give them another chance. We tell them about my allergy, wtf. No joke. THERE'S BACON IN MY TACO. I'm done.
