I have to say, Fuego's food is good. Unfortunately, the customer service at the Waco location seems to be operating under the assumption that customers are optional. I stood at the counter for about five minutes waiting to place my order while an employee continued making tortillas and completely ignored my existence. Not a "Hi," not an "I'll be right with you," not even eye contact. I genuinely started wondering if I had somehow become invisible. After finally placing my order, I waited another ten minutes for my to-go food. When they eventually handed me an order, it wasn't even mine. The same employee who took my order was the one who gave me the wrong bag, which was honestly impressive in a way I wish it hadn't been. The restaurant only had a couple of customers at the time, so this wasn't a case of being overwhelmed during a lunch rush. There were more employees working than customers ordering, yet somehow my husband and I still felt forgotten. What really sealed the experience was the complete lack of urgency or concern. We were clearly frustrated, and the staff seemed entirely unaware--or entirely unbothered. It's hard to tell which is worse. The food saved this review from being one star because it was actually good. But good tacos can only carry so much weight when the customer service makes you feel like you're interrupting someone's day by ordering food at a restaurant. If the service matched the quality of the food, Fuego would be a five-star experience. Right now, the tortillas are doing all the heavy lifting. read more

Meh - it's a good spot to grab some queso and chips but I think Torchy's is better. Ordering was fast but it took a long while to get our food - even the queso and chips - while we watched a bunch of employees stand around. I got the salad - the one salad they have - and it was ok but weird. Lots of meat on it but not much flavor. I'd love to see more options for salads. Queso was thinner than preferred and had a 'skin' on top when it arrived to us. read more

I kept hearing/reading about this place when I would ask where I should eat while I am in Waco. I tried it. I won't return. I don't like places that charge you for adding cheese to your taco. Cheese on a taco should be a given. Then the tacos came out and the cheese was not even melted. The only saving grace was the portion filling size. My wife and I ate here one afternoon. The menu is not huge but a nice variety. We each had 2 tacos. They were fairly large and stuffed with goodness. 2 taco should fill an appetite. I'm sure many people would be full with only one. The flavors were fantastic and the price was not excessive. The frozen margarita was so cold and thick I had to take my time drinking it. Food is okay. I may have gotten too adventurous with the BBQ brisket taco. Was not a fan of the corn on the tacos. One big plus for this restaurant is the drive thru. Great option when passing through taco and want an alternative to burgers. read more

I came here and got a Dr Pepper cowboy and they made it with macaroni there was no cream corn or onions there wasn't even cheese on the noodles just macaroni and they barely cut up any of the vegetables in the fuel for fitness bowl then on top of that there was a seed of some sort inside my fuego bowl it's always the overnight shift crew rushing and messing up then when I tried to call someone sent me to voicemail and took the phone off the hook read more

I came here last night on my way to Dallas. I ordered the Fuego deluxe and Campeche Fish and seasoned fries. The real star of the show is the Campeche Fish!!!! But ask for a side of barbecue. Thank me later. Well actually don't thank me, thank Wes. He was a joy from the time I arrived until I left. He recommended the barbecue sauce. You might think it's unconventional but he was RIGHT!!!! The fries were also delicious. I was driving so I opted out of the quest on the fungi deluxe. Both sandwiches are huge and you don't need both. I would have been perfectly fine with the small fries and Campeche fish! Ohhhhh and I got the flour vs corn. It's more of flatbread. But baby that's the win!!! read more

The food here is actually really good, which makes this review all the more disappointing. We decided to walk over for dinner, only to find the doors locked well before the posted closing time. It's frustrating to make the effort to get there--especially on foot--and discover they've closed early without notice. I understand things happen, but accurate hours and communication matter. Good tacos- although they are kind of gourmet, not Mexican street tacos. They are fairly large and are $5 and up. You probably only need one. The bar that has salsas and sour cream is ok, could have used a clean up by the time I got there around 1pm. Service at the counter was quick and easy. I'm more of a Mexican street taco person when it comes to taco joints so I probably won't return, but if those places scare you off, definitely try this. Dining room looks like it needs a good scrubbing. No trash laying around, just felt greasy. read more

All I have to say is yum! We had previously visited the Fuego in College station and loved the food and prices and happened to notice that this was a place by the same name. Very excellent. I personally love the South Padre taco and of course the queso is amazing! Fast service and the environment is welcoming, music not too loud, just a very nice place to visit and eat. I went to school at Baylor and loved Fuego. My husband and I have stopped the last two times at this location on our way home from his parents. The service was horrible both times. Staff was rude and they were out of over half of the menu. On top of that when we did get our food it was incorrect both times. They didn't even put all of the ingredients listed in the items. read more

Will not go back, nor will I recommend anyone to venture to this establishment . While the menu may seem enticing and you may want to try out the interesting items, trust me, do not. We ordered a few of the interesting tacos and was honestly excited to try something "new" out but upon receiving our food, even with them looking the way it looked, we still were hopeful. Bad idea. Honestly, food presentation was a clear indicator of what we would be getting. They even have a Yelp Check in offer which apparently isnt acknowledged anymore. Fuego has gone downhill since they expanded from college station. The Og version in 2011 ish was just perfect, but since they are so popular the quality of the food has gone down- I'd say it's like the love was taken out of it. Don't get me wrong it's still pretty good but it just isn't the same. The Dr Pepper cowboy is my favorite. This location also does not have any of the same charm in atmosphere as the original location- it's very fast food corporate esque. It fit the bill on our stop in the way up to Prosper but it did not bring me the joy and wholesome vibes I was craving. read more

First, the good stuff: tacos are plentiful and the variety is interesting. Be ready to eat... a single taco will definitely get you mostly full. 2 is just asking for it. We also added the queso and nearly couldn't finish it all. The service here is great and everyone is super friendly. Tacos came out quickly and because they accidentally made an extra fish taco, they let us have it. This is 24/7 and having stopped by at dinner time, we were still able to snag a seat. Some of the not so good stuff: parking can be kind of a challenge, though this is mostly the construction currently going on, so you can't blame them. But it was just busy and we were lucky to snag a spot. There really isn't too much social distancing inside as every table was filled. With all the kids running around, there really wasn't any mask enforcement. And the staff mostly kept their mask under their chin as they walked around to greet everyone. Soda fountain is self serve as well and I didn't really see anyone try to sanitize. COVID aside, the tacos are just ok. Sure they are massive, but the tortillas are so so and with everything either deep fried or overly salted, it was hard to get past how heavy they were. The queso would have been more unique but ended up being overly salted as well. Overall, this is still a place worth checking out, since the options are unique and the prices are reasonable. Our Uber driver recommended this place. So we gave it a shot. We have never been to Waco before so we weren't sure what to expect. It reminds me of a Velvet Taco/ Rusty Taco/ Torchy's. It's a counter service taco shop. It's definitely Tex-Mex. They have crazy taco concoctions. For example, one of them has mac n cheese on it. I had the nachos. It had queso, beans, brisket, sour cream, and guacamole. It was delicious. Their salsa bar is amazing! It had sour cream. That was a new one for me. It was a very pleasant surprise. Freight Drafthouse and Yardbar also have a deal set up with Fuego. You can order anything off the menu from Fuego at the Freight bar and it will be delivered to you. You don't have to go wait in the crazy long line. Your food comes to you. That is genius. I definitely would recommend giving it a try. read more

The food at fuego is always great, but the service at this location is not the best. It took up to 8 minutes for someone to look our way and acknowledge us waiting at the counter. Even a glance and a "I'll be right with you" can go a long way, but the workers act like you aren't standing at their counter waiting to order. In addition, the dining area is dirty with multiple tables that needed wiping, food debris and trash scattered around, and flies and gnats all over. The college station and San Marcos locations are much cleaner and the staff are a lot nicer and accommodating there. read more

The name means fire ... sadly the food was not. Low budget decor didn't have anything that remotely felt like Tex-Mex. Serve yourself condiment table. As well as serve yourself beverages. My husband had a steak taco for $9! A single taco, mostly fat/gristle. No beans ,rice or salad. I had the texas trio bowl chicken. The bowl I chose for digestive reasons, no carbs. But my husband tasted it and said it was even less flavored than the steak. I took it home and neglected to bring it in the house. Needlessly to say I didn't miss or want it.
