First time trying this cool new place. We went for lunch this past Saturday. Very friendly staff at the door .. we sat at a table in the bar and were taken care of by Victor, the bartender. Didn't have drinks (this time) because we had to much to do after lunch .. and i'd have to have at least 2 margaritas if I even had one. And i saw the size of the glasses .. they are HUGE. I love how they put the typical basket of chips and salsa down when you first sit .. but they also put a dish of refried beans down too ... really delicious. We shared the guacamole bowl as an app ... this is some of the best guacamole i've ever tasted. You can tell it was freshly made. My partner had the chicken fajitas and raved ... I had a salmon dish. It was a special .. i don't recall the name, but was a top notch and very fresh piece of salmon cooked in a smoky adobo sauce .. served w/ yellow rice, a pinto bean dish and sliced avocado w/ lime wedges. We 100% will be back ... the food was great, we got great service in the bar and the door staff were so welcoming. Loved it! BUT ... next time .. margaritas !! read more

North Haven has been desperately in need of a good Mexican restaurant. I had high hopes for this chain from Massachusetts that has opened recently. Let me start with the good, we were seated promptly, and served really great chips and a bean dip with cotija cheese and tomatoes on top. Our waiter was enthusiastic and extremely nice. In the front of the restaurant where you enter is a very unique "guacamole bar" which has me intrigued. My palmarita margarita was in a large glass and well priced, and came out quickly. We ordered a queso dip appetizer and it was delicious with their crispy chips, and the waiter was quick to give us extra napkins and refill my husbands iced tea. The chips we were served at the beginning came with salsa too and unfortunately the salsa tastes very tomato soup, not salsa, no spice or flavors. My husbands wrapped silverware was dirty upon unfolding, but our waiter quickly replaced it. My palmarita tasted mostly of sour mix and was supposed to have a side shot which it did not come with. My husband ordered a spinach enchilada and I ordered the enchilada suizas, both came out well done, I don't know if this happened by them being under a heat lamp, or in an oven. The rice was super crunchy crispy, which has never been our experience at a Mexican restaurant. And our enchiladas were too, tasting a bit burnt, I did not take my leftovers home. I would come back again as this is their first week open and for sure give them another chance, but I'm not sure I'd order dinner probably a different margarita and appetizers to see if there is improvement. read more

I wanted so badly to like this place because my friend said it was really good and I was excited for North Haven to get a restaurant other than Italian, but based on my dinner with friends last night, we all agree we won't be going back. The tables were especially tight unless you got a booth that if someone was sitting behind you, you are literally back to back with them. Another 6" between tables would have helped greatly. The salsa that they put out with chips is very good as is the guacamole fresco that we ordered. And you get a large amount of the guac, which is nice. I ordered the Colorado burrito, when the waiter arrived, he gave one friend the correct thing, listed the 2 others (one being the "loco") to which I said no, I got the Colorado. He insisted it was the correct thing. There is a picture on the menu of this item and I said it didn't look like it, he still insisted. So I started to eat it, extremely salty, but I continued to eat because I was hungry and excited for Mexican food. As I really look at the innards of the burrito, I am going "no way this is steak, this is def chicken." There also was no rice or avocado on the side like was supposed to come with my dish. I call the waiter back over, I tell him, "I don't want to be charged for something with steak, this is definitely chicken, are you sure this is the right thing?" and point out a large, white chunk to him. He goes back to the kitchen and comes back to say "oh, he got mixed up." They did offer to make me the correct thing but at this point I am full and didn't love what I had, so said no thank you. So I will give them that they tried to correct the wrong but I questioned this several times before eating it and he kept insisting it was correct. They gave us a complimentary fried ice cream to make up for it, which I can't eat, so my friends got free desert. The loco has queso on it, so thank goodness I am not lactose intolerant because what I ordered had no cheese (which I was trying to avoid for other reasons). All in all, it wasn't a particularly enjoyable experience for me. Felt very much like a typical chain restaurant. read more

Been coming here since this place opened. When I tell you that's it's a must try, from the 38oz signature margaritas to the endless beans and salsa. This place is top tier, and would highly recommend for lunch. The prices are affordable and the food is to die for, would make it a priority to come in! read more

Not good for kids due to no booster seats. The booths can fit 1 high chair however due to the narrow width and many waiters walking around would not be very safe for a baby to sit there. Additionally the service mediocre. The sun was beaming in my eye and they refused to pull down the blinds even half way to get rid of sun. There were no other seats so had to sit there. Asked the waiter to borrow a pen so kids can draw, she said no despite having 5 pens in her pocket . If I were writing this review two weeks ago, I'd have given FIVE stars. Since moving to Connecticut last year, we have frequented this restaurant and enjoyed the delicious food and great service. However, sometime within the last week or two, the restaurant has undergone substantial change. The "Guacamole Bar" is no longer behind the hostess station, the menu has changed and there was only a virtual menu (maybe the new physical menu is still in the works), prices of every item have increased, some increasing by $3, $4+, and the service and food was poor. Furthermore, it seemed like there were many new employees, though I could be wrong. In the past, even during busy hours, the service was so great that if you ordered queso for example, you'd have it hot and at your table within a matter of minutes. Even the entrees would be ready and served fresh, hot, and quickly. Now, the wait time was noticeably longer and the queso much thicker than we've found it to be in the many times we enjoyed it in the past. Thank goodness the chips and salsa are still served upon arrival, but even the salsa was more watery and spicy than it had been in the past. Maybe the restaurant is still adjusting to whatever changes they have made, but our recent visit was the worst we had. That, coupled with the increased prices, make us reluctant to visit again in the near future. Being optimistic, I'd like to believe that the restaurant is still simply adjusting to new changes and menu, but I don't know. Suffice to say, we were disappointed with our recent visit. read more

I guess this would be a place to drink and only eat the chips on the table. I never give a bad review on a first visit because everyone has a bad day. Three strikes, you're out. We went there on Friday night around 8 pm. It wasn't busy, maybe 5 tables and 3 servers so there was no excuse for the poor quality. I ordered the spinach quesadilla and added bacon not knowing that I would be served a plate of oil with brown guacamole. I pushed to finish one slice and instantly had stomach pains from the oil. Not to mention the bacon was chopped pieces of fat without the meat. I understand bacon is expensive but you would think the kitchen would cook it enough so you didn't have chewy fat that ruined a meal. Our last experience the bacon was fried and tasted like pebbles of sand so I assume they haven't learned a happy medium. It was absolutely the worst quesadilla I have ever had in my life. My fingers were covered in grease or butter while my plate literally was a pool of oil. The waitress was pleasant but didn't offer to rectify the mess. We were given churros ($6.99) to "make up" for the food ($16.99) that wasn't edible. Each time we have gone there the wait staff was pleasant but each meal also had issues. Our first visit they forgot toppings on our sandwiches and nobody came by to check on us so we just ate it because we didn't want to wait any longer. The second time we went there, bacon was not on the guacamole but then added (burned and tasted like pebbles). Last visit was the final attempt as described above. I do understand the price of food has gone up but there are plenty of places we enjoy and don't mind spending the money because the quality is worth the price. To walk in a restaurant and be given our food within 15 minutes after ordering is impressive but then to wait 45 minutes for our check when the food that is horrible and not edible (3 times) makes it a place we will not be returning. read more

I can't say I'm convinced I was eating red snapper, but the flavor of my meal was great. There was a bit of a language barrier between us and our server. Once we realized we couldn't ask her for more than one thing at a time without her missing something it was smooth sailing from there. I'll definitely be giving this place another try. It is with a heavy heart that I have to give a low review to this new restaurant. I don't do it easily since I know how difficult opening a restaurant can be. Here's why we are where we are: We ordered pick up through GrubHub, which apparently the restaurant has some issues using. Our order didn't come through and required us to take a screenshot of our order so they would know what to make. Meanwhile, we got a notice on app that our order was ready for pickup (weird considering these "issues", but whatever). OK, I'll give a new restaurant some grace with a new system, but our order was not fired despite the mix-up, so I had to wait 30 minutes for the order because they were starting to get busy. Order wasn't even complete when we got home (missing guac), but had no idea how long that would take to make if I went back. The food was not good enough for these flaws to be overlooked. We also had no recognition from management that a mistake was made and they were sorry. I would expect a little better from a new restaurant, but maybe things are different with a small chain. If we go back, it'll be when this restaurant has worked out all its issues. I did not feel this was handled well. read more

Went here with a bunch of friends and loved it. It's new, so don't let the lack of reviews stop you from enjoying some great authentic Mexican food. The menu has a great variety of options with a large portion size; definetly getting your $ worth! For people who don't LOVE spice, you're in luck, they let you decide how spicy you want your meal! We also ordered some tasty margs off their specialized menu and enjoyed them all very thoroughly ;) . The size of the drinks are big and definelty keep you there drinking! They also have a mariachi band that plays as well as a live guac bar in the front. It's lively and fun with great food. This is a real Mexican cuisine experience, not Tex Mex which most Americans expect. The del rancho enchiladas dish was great and authentic. Lots of beans. Even the free chips come with a nice bean dip as well as salsa. Their Cadillac margaritas frozen are amazing with a whole shot glass of gran marina. One will do you good! Mole sauce is great. My son even got the spicy wings, which I warned him was not a Mexican thing, but I was so wrong! The were marinated and cooked in what we thought must be Frank's red hot sauce. So delicious! I placed an online pickup order on their website. I went to pick up the order after 30 mins as suggested while placing the order. The manager said it will be out in 5 mins. After waiting for sometime, I got to know they did not even get to work on the order when I went to pick it up. The order was not ready even after I waited for 40 mins at the restaurant. At this time I asked for a refund and left the restaurant without the food. The disappointing part was the staffs and managers were kept lying saying it will be ready in 5 mins, did not acknowledge their mistake, did not apologize and was rude when asked for refund. read more

I have never been more disappointed. Convinced my whole family to come to Torito for Father's Day since my dads favorite Mexican restaurant is in a different town. I raved about the food, the service, the drinks and was so embarrassed at what happened. My brothers food never came we finally had to hunt down the waitress to ask & his order hadn't even been cooked yet. He got his food when we had all finished long before so he just asked for it to go. We order drinks and 6 people's worth of food and the manager or owner refused to comp any part of the meal that was brought out 45 minutes after all the rest. I'm so upset this is my favorite restaurant but what an awful way to do business, as a business owner myself I would be ashamed. Ordered a steak taco salad to go. Employee was very nice who took the order and told me 15-20 minutes for pickup. When I got there it was not ready, but there's space to wait. Got home excited about the salad only to find that the salad was nearly lettuce less and the pico was actually plain tomatoes. The two types of cheese promised was also almost non-existence. The guacamole provided was old and brown. The steak however was extremely flavorful, tender and delicious. And they did omit the sour cream as requested. If there was more lettuce and cheese and fresh guacamole the salad would have been great! read more

New restaurant with fairly extensive and diverse menu. The food and drinks were excellent. The service was quick and on point. While the prices are a little bit more then what I have encountered in most Mexican restaurants, the portions are large. My wife and I split an appetizer and entree, with leftovers for the next day's lunch. The margaritas are generously sized as well. Looking forward to going for dessert. read more

I came with a group of 6 people. It's understandable that with a group this big it can take time to find seating. However, it took a while for anyone to even acknowledge or even welcome us to the restaurant. We did see a lot of open tables but figured it could have been reserved. After a while we were sat down and were ignored for a while. Eventually a waitress came and told us that the kitchen had closed for the day but they were offering appetizers. We ordered our appetizers and drinks. A waiter came and told us there were no appetizers being served. There were other people that came after us and had been given food and other various appetizers. We definitely felt that we weren't treated fairly. This food at this place is usually a hit or miss. We will try and give this place another chance but for now 1 Star. read more

Our family has been enjoying the food and drinks since they opened. Always fresh and delicious! The drinks are excellent, especially the mojito and margaritas. I stopped in today with my 2 daughters and granddaughter (2 years old), and was not disappointed. The service by Maria was terrific, and the fact that she paid so much attention to our little Mia was extra special! She had Mia doing a belly laugh while playing with her...just beautiful!!!
