I could just eat a bunch of those. The calamari was my least favorite as it was thick large strips not circles. Meat and cheese plate had a great selection. We really enjoyed this meal! I didn't get a photo of the their sangria pitchers but we ended drinking 2 of them. Our friends really enjoyed the dates, and we moved the scallops. We had never had guac on scallops, but a surprisingly nice combo. The paella was pretty good as well. We do wish it was a little more crispy/burned on the bottom. But it was filled with protein and seafood which was nice. Good vibes on the patio with some live music, and the inside feels very classy as well. We weren't disappointed with this place! Took my sister to treat her to some cuisine from Spain. The place is nice, dim lighting very clean. The hostess were nice, they were okay. Our waiter was more polite and friendly. The tapas I ordered were so delicious but! It was happy hour. The special was buy 2 and get the third free. I was charged for 3! And the waiter knew it but didn't say anything. He literally told us beforehand about the special but didn't correct it. I know he saw the receipt. Unfortunately, my sister and I had to rush out. We had tickets to a performance at the majestic. I didn't have time to protest the receipt. I thought it was a bit pricey. So I would score this place 3 1/3 stars out of 5. Will I go again? Probably, I always give a place a second chance. Love this place. Came here for mine and my fiancé's first date. They had live music, high top tables, private tables, and group tables. Small enough restaurant to be intimate but feel the energy of being in Spain. Our style of restaurant to have many wine & cocktail options, plus options for tapas. We also got a paella to share. Rounded out our first dinner with dessert and a great coffee. Afterwards, found the secret passage to Cellar Mixology. We come back every year for our first date anniversary. Only one time was the quality of food and service mediocre but all the other times has been great. So I wouldn't knock them for that one time. I was so impressed by this restaurant! We came on a Saturday night and they had wonderful live music. The service is very attentive and the Chef came out to meet us at the end of our meal. He studied in Spain. The jamon Iberico was as good as I've had at the Boqueria market in Barcelona. The paella was out of this world. Try the arroz negro. Found this little gem a little off downtown area and was so glad we enjoyed it out of the business of the city restaurants. They sat us in the little wine room so it was a little bit private but you still get the ambiance of the restaurant. We started off with calamari steaks which I highly recommend! They were perfectly breaded and cooked and were super tender. It was not chewy at all and the aioli that came with it was light and complemented it well. We then shared the main course of the seafood paella which had plenty of flavor and a good amount of seafood. They definitely didn't skimp! Make sure to ask for extra lemons to squeeze over the rice. I have been to Toro a couple times and I love the vibe and decor. The interior is really well thought out and I feel transported back to Spain here! I especially like when they have the live Spanish Guitarist playing! The menu is centered around tapas, which are traditionally served on top of a drink in Spain, so these are smaller plates that can be shared or enjoyed by yourself. Don't expect a giant Tex-Mex platter or to be in and out...this type of meal should be enjoyed socially and Toro has so many wonderful items to have your Spanish Sampling. The Patatas Bravas are a classic dish that has such a rich flavor and the mayonnaise sort of sauce with them is perfect! So, if you have never tried them before, then those are a must have to get you started. Also there are some great pork items, which have that great depth of Iberian flavor. I would like to sample more of these on future visits. I went also during restaurant week and tried the dinner menu side. The salad was really refreshing to start and typically I don't like beets, but it really added a subtle flavor. The Mar y Tierra plate's meat was perfectly sliced and had a wonderful smokey flavor. The scallop was not fishy and cut so smoothly to give you that melt in your mouth decadence. The dessert Torrijas also did not disappoint, the bread soaked in sweet cream still has me dreaming! The food was 5 stars, some of the best Spanish tapas we have had. There are 2 reasons I am giving Toro 4 instead of 5 stars though. First, the patatas bravas were not that great, just fried potatoes without any special seasoning. Second, we arrived 40 minutes before happy hour ended and although our server initially greeted us and seemed friendly, she disappeared for so long that by the time she finally came to take our order, happy hour was over. I don't know if it was intentional, but I find it too coincidental that she reappeared right after happy hour ended and we didn't get the discounted pricing. So if you are looking to get happy hour specials, I suggest you get there very early and try to order quickly before the server leaves your table. read more

I'm so happy Toro finally has a second location! I went with a small group not too long ago and I'm so glad I was able to go. Seriously their Panela 43 is the right balance of sweet and savory. Of course you can't go wrong with their happy hour during the week! We took advantage of their HH drinks specials and of course their $6 tapas. Whether it's HH or not, you need to grab an order of the Patatas Bravas which have a nice sauce poured over them (be careful they got a kick to them), and the Cochinita Pibil Tacos. I seriously had two orders alone myself aside from everything else we shared at the table. Toro is meant to be a proper tapas experience, so don't be afraid to order a wide assortment for the table. They bring out the plates as they're ready, so don't expect them to come at any particular order. Love this place! The atmosphere is some what industrial, with a nice patio in the courtyard in the back. It was perfect weather when we went so we were able to sit outside and enjoy ourselves. They have a wine list to accommodate your palate and price depending on what you'd like and tapas to choose from. Personally I recommend the paella with all the stuff in it. I arrived in San Antonio via Amtrak. The station is on the near-east side of downtown. It is also near an area called St. Paul Square. Among other interesting restaurants and clubs in the area, is Toro Kitchen and Bar. I don't "go out to eat" as often as I once did and "dine out" even less frequently. But at Toro--I dined! I've visited Toro three times and this time was OKAY. The music was very loud and my group had to shout the entire dinner - that was a big turnoff. The lighting was so dim we had a hard time seeing the menu and our food. The sever was OKAY. We were celebrating a dinner and it felt like we didn't get anything special. We mentioned the birthday a few times but then had to ask if they could do a special presentation. They did but it was underwhelming. The food was OKAY. It wasn't amazing. Overall, it would be hard for me to recommend going to Toro on a weekend night. I recommend going during the day, it's not as loud and it's more enjoyable. read more
