    Steak Au Poivre medium rare

While visiting our adult daughter in San Antonio, I was hoping to find a nice French restaurant that was close by and reasonably priced. After reading many positive reviews on Yelp, we decided to try La Frite Belgian Bistro. We initially attempted to make a reservation for three through Yelp, but it wouldn't allow us to book for our desired time. We were able to secure one reservation for two and another for one. Fortunately, after calling the restaurant just prior to opening, they kindly combined the reservations and accommodated the three of us without issue. When we arrived on a Saturday evening, we were pleased to find the main dining area small and quaint, creating an intimate and charming atmosphere. At first, we thought this was the only dining space, but they also have additional storefront dining areas on each side, providing ample seating. We arrived shortly after opening, and only a few tables were occupied. That quickly changed -- by the time we left, every table in the restaurant was filled. We were warmly greeted at the door and seated at a front window table, which offered a great view outside. The gentleman who seated us also served as our waiter. I don't recall his name, but he was exceptionally professional and attentive, providing outstanding service throughout the evening. We ordered a carafe of white wine, which our server recommended as a great value -- and it truly was. For starters (using non-French names for simplicity), we ordered a large portion of mussels in a basil, garlic, butter, and white wine broth. The mussels (moules) are offered in seven different sauces, and after tasting ours, I wish we could have tried every one of them. They were plump and fresh, served over an abundant, flavorful broth that paired perfectly with the fresh bread -- ideal for soaking up every last drop. Our second shared appetizer was escargot prepared Burgundy-style in a rich herb butter sauce. The escargot were tender, earthy, and generously coated in a garlic-forward herb butter that was absolutely delicious. Again, the fresh bread ensured none of that wonderful sauce went to waste. For entrées, we began with the Steak Au Poivre. We selected the tenderloin, which arrived perfectly cooked to medium rare. It was tender, well-seasoned, and accompanied by crisp fries and a fresh selection of cooked vegetables. Our second entrée was a crab and mushroom crepe. The delicate crepe was filled with fresh crab and mushrooms in a light white cream sauce that also draped over the top. The flavors were fresh, balanced, and beautifully seasoned. Although we were extremely full, it was impossible to pass on dessert. We ordered both the lemon tart and the chocolate tart. The lemon tart featured a crisp, flavorful crust with a firm, well-balanced lemon filling that delivered just the right amount of brightness. The chocolate tart shared the same crisp crust but was filled with a rich, decadent chocolate center with a smooth consistency that allowed the flavor to linger pleasantly on the palate. We will definitely return on our next visit. This truly is a wonderful gem in San Antonio

Service is very friendly, personable, and easy. I came in for lunch meeting and for a quick second I thought our waiter was part of the group we were meeting, that I started moving my purse so he could sit down. seems like a lot of business takes place during lunch from different professions. Food was good but Im also rating an omelette so I would have to come back for dinner or something else. However everyone at the table loved their food and are repeated customers.

    Savory tart

Absolutely delicious and tender steak. The duck and risotto was so decadent and perfectly done. The tarts are an absolute must - I never tasted anything like it! Service was wonderful and I felt like the meal was perfectly paced. It's a small place and can get a little loud but I love that, it added to the charm! I didn't get a photo of all the food because I was too busy shoveling in all the food like a caveman.

Pear crepe The best dessert in SA in my opinion.

Hands down one of my essential San Antonio restaurants. Lively but relaxed. Classic but unpretentious. A treat but always a good value. The moules frites are always a star, and the prix fixe menu is generally an excellent deal. My star of the show, however, is their pear crepe for dessert - not only my very favorite dessert in the city, but a top ten of all time. Service is always attentive and knowledgeable. Just go, it's fabulous and kind of perfect.

So happy we tried this place! Made a reservation for Friday night but even as we enter the restaurant, there were still open tables. The restaraunt is actually quite big, with 3 different sections. We were sat right away & our server took the time to explain the 3 meal course they offer & other items from the menu. We got our drinks quickly & soon after the food came out. Everything was delicious. The seafood puff pastry was different from anything I have ever had, & the price in comparison with the amount of seafood that came with it was very generous. The fries were amazing as well! You could tell they were homemade. Will be back again!

5 star food and service at 3 star prices. During the week they have an amazing lunch menu. There is a different off menu special every day. They have a different soup of the day Kasich day. It's always so good I try and get a cup everytime I go. For dinner they have a very reasonably priced 3 course prix fix. The muscles and frites are so good. Get a side of fresh french bread for the sauces. Small and cozy. Perfect for date nite or any night.

    Escargot was delicious! Mark

Late post on one of the participating restaurants for Restaurant Week! Take note of La Frite Belgian Bistro in January for the next round of Restaurant Week! It is one of the few participating restaurants where the dinner prix fixe menu is still $35. Many of the participating restaurants are at $45 or $55. Dad had the Lemonade, Hubby had the Cider, and I had the Halter Ranch Grenache Blanc. I chose the Restaurant Week menu which started with the Red Wine Poached Pear, the entree was the Red Snapper with jasmine rice and vegetables, and Chocolate Mousse. Hubby had the Salade de Fruit et Fromage and Confit de Canard (duck confit). Dad had the Crepe au Jambon et Fromage (crepe with ham and cheese). Everything was delicious! This place does fill up so make a reservation if you can. There is a private lot for parking but be early! Come check this place out!

It is a beautiful venue, nicely appointed with booths, tables, and a huge gorgeous bar. Their happy hour is one of the best in town. The food is so delicious (we especially love the red pepper soup!). The wine selection is huge! Finally, the service is top notch. Both Tiffany and Heather are great, and the owner Kim is so engaging! You feel welcome the second you come through the door and you can tell a lot of love went into the restaurant's creation. I will say the Sunday all day happy hour and trivia game is a bit too crowded and noisy for me. So I'll stick to the other evenings in the future. And I'm gonna tell all my friends about this great place!

They have a separate happy hour menu with bites and a couple different wines. There main menus does consist of wines from multiple regions of the world. They also have wine flights for you to sample new things . My wife and I ordered the meat balls and the cellar cut flat bread . The meat ball's were very tender with excellent flavor and are served with a marinara sauce and ricotta cheese. It's also accompanied by two slices of garlic bread. The Flat bread was a nice portion size for two . It is meant for those who love cheese as the mozzarella and feta are very present. The meat portion could be a bit more for me ( I'm a carnivore). The dough was nice and airy and the flatbread overall was tasty. The feta was a bit too much for my taste. Could have done less. I started with the GSM and my wife with the Cab Sav from happy hour . The GSM was flavorful, a little bold, but a little bitter to me. The Cabernet was very fruity and full bodied . We tried a couple other wines that were spot on. This is a nice place to have wine with friends and bites. It is a nice size and has an excellent atmosphere. Very nice decor and bright. We will be back !

There are a few tables as well as high tops and the bar top available for sitting. The staff is usually really kind, though not always as knowledgeable about wine as you may expect. By no means do I need a wine connoisseur to be employed, but to at least know the basics would be important. We had a staff take our order and another drop off a wine flight and then said that it went from the driest to the sweetest, but was saying a Cabernet is sweeter than Zinfandel which is wildly inaccurate. Of course I bartended for 10 years and served tables for another 5 so I was able to tell my husband the correct information. However, if someone doesn't know wine well and expects something specific, they may be disappointed by the misinformation. We always get the wine flights so my husband can have reds while I enjoy whites along with some small plates or snacks. The food is enjoyable and decently priced for it being a wine bar and not a restaurant.
