I've eaten here dozens of times for breakfast and have never been disappointed. Service is reasonable fast. Country Western Ranch decor is fitting for the area. Nice little shaded patio. Cinnamon roll is the bomb when I do rarely order one. Writing this review in the wee hours of the morning is making me want to make a visit later this morning! We came here about 9:30am on a Sunday wanting to beat the rush. We read on Yelp that it can get very busy. After arriving we are surprised it can get that busy based on their limited parking. We were seated right away and there were still other tables open but that was after driving around the place twice trying to find a place to park. There was no designated parking anywhere and vehicles were parked every which way including several of which were parked in. We found it more difficult to park than to get a table. The outside of the building appears very run down and the inside is much more put together. We could see that in addition to the inside seating, they also have some outside seating as well. We were provided menus and ordered drinks. We perused the menu which is about half breakfast items with salads, burgers and sandwiches. They are supposed to be famous for their burgers. A short while later our orders were taken. My wife chose the farmers omelette with home fries and I chose the western bacon burger with hash browns since they were not yet offering French fries for the day. Our food came out very quickly and looked delicious. My wife said her omelette was very good and so were her home fries. My burger was good but wasn't spectacular and I wish I had ordered the home fries after tasting my wife's. We also noticed that the server appeared to be serving the entire dining room and several of us were waiting for boxes and our checks. My wife's meal was a 5 but mine was a solid 3 so we are giving it a 4. read more

Can't believe ai just paid $27 for a sub-par breakfast burrito. Came in this morning and the waitress reluctantly (for some reason) sat me at the bar upon my request. I ordered the burrito with steak, which, in all honesty, was fairly sloppy/greasy, with low quality ingredients (especially the steak). I had to ask her for clarification on the bill - she confirmed without hesitation: $26.85 "steak is expensive. I didn't even charge you full price." Well, thanks for the heads up! It is like going to "moms" for breakfast. Very friendly staff. Food? Never had anything that wasn't great. Wonderful place, try it. You will not be disappointed. My favorites? Finally made to this place. A little hole in the wall in your way to Monterey. I had the Chorizo and egg dish. It was outstanding with plenty of chorizo. My wife had an omelette with fruit. She said the omelette was great but better yet she said her fruit was the Freshest she has ever had. We are had a side of sausage patty's which we had to return due to be being fully cooked. This is the only reason it does not get a 5 Star rating. I would highly recommend this place if you have a chance to stop. read more

Crowded little place, "meh" breakfast, waitress barely glanced at me but was all smiles & chat with younger male friend, parking lot is a nightmare. Don't know what is left to say, but: I was from out of town & local friend recommended we have breakfast here. Waitress was not very friendly to me(grey haired senior woman), but all smiles & chatty with younger male friend. Soggy hash browns, bacon, eggs were just "meh". Coffee was good with attentive refills. Darned pricey, in my opinion, at $52 & $10 tip. Parking seemed to be "wherever " ,even blocking others in. Getting out of gravel parking lot was tricky with busy highway and parked cars blocking view...good luck on that. Seems to be a place for local regulars, who are warmly welcomed, but it was the first and LAST time I will eat there... and Salinas was where I grew up, so I do visit several times a year. Cannot recommend Toro Park Cafe, at all. Even IHOP or Dennys would have been better... sad to say. read more

Looking for a nice place to have a brunch! My husband was insisting in stop at this Cafe, and it's kind of sad to see how the owners and managers are not taking care of this little old gem. Everything is falling apart here, and we could handle that issue but not the food, nothing special, greasy and tasteless. The whole place is dirty, sticky floors, bathrooms in bad condition, I don't even know how they are in business? The customer service was very good by the way. Arrived there around 10:40 AM on Saturday on 2/1 There was three of us was seated right away at the back of the restaurant warm cozy place table with a perfect size for us. The server was friendly and nice. We got our coffees and chocolate right away. Food came out fast and everything we ordered was delicious. Cost was just the right amount for what we got. Consistently one of the best places for breakfast in this area. Usually busy, parking is always a problem, but it's well worth it. My go-to is the huevos rancheros with chile verde and it's the stuff I dream of. It's not always on the menu, unless it's the weekend. Tortilla with a slather of beans and cheese and another tortilla on top. Pour on the delicious pork chili verde, add your eggs and a sprinkle of cotija and cilantro. Delicious! My husband loves the chicken fried steak, and theirs is the best locally. Their gravy tastes homemade and the steak is seasoned and cooked perfectly. I would add photos, but food is usually devoured so quickly after arriving that there's no time. Staff is friendly and does a good job. The same people have been there for a long time, so they must treat their staff well. Appreciate this place and highly recommend. read more

Went there with my hiking buddy to have lunch. Ordered a Philly-style roast beef sandwich. It was the skinniest sandwich I've ever seen, a hotdog sandwich would have looked like a fat burger in comparison to that Philly-style sandwich. If I was from the Philly area, I would have been very much offended. It should be called skinny style sandwich or almost an empty bun or .....! My buddy didn't have much luck with his either. We decided to try this place out, always seems busy when I drive by. Parking is a pain. Walked in , never got acknowledged by staff, I had to ask for a table. While I was been ignored , looked around saw bacon sitting right in the open on top of a soda dispenser not even near the kitchen. But I decided let's give it a chance. I ordered turkey/avocado Benedict with hash browns. Hollandaise is not fresh tasted like package hollandaise you buy from the grocery store, eggs over cooked,hash brown so over cooked it was like eating sticks, avocado was rotten . My husband had tomato and cheese omelette, so flavorless and his hash brown were soggy. The coffee was decent. Waitress never came by to see how everything was . For $28. read more

I have been struggling with writing a review. My husband and I stopped by a couple of weeks ago, sat outside. The waitress that sat us had blonde pulled back hair in a ponytail and really nice thick black glasses. We waited for her to clean off a table before being seated. We waited about 15 minutes before anyone came out to take our order. The waitress that sat us down knew we were there before other guests and had the other guests' orders taken before ours. I couldn't help but feel there was a bit of racism going on. Service was horrible by the time someone came to take our order we just wanted to leave. Cute country breakfast - lunch spot on 68 outside of Salinas with lots of charm and full of locals. The menu is full of all American chow, the usual breakfast stuff and lunch faire. All made in a tiny kitchen. Of the halve dozen times I've eaten here the staff was pleasant and quick to fill the cup. All seem to be hard working and genuine. Oh yeah! the food we come here for the food. I always hope that my next meal here would be great, but it's always just OK. Nothing special mostly average. Last words...sure OK. read more

First time at Toro Place Cafe, food was below average there was no taste to the food was very bland. I also wish the service was better. When the waitress brought out our food. My food had a literal bug crawling on it as she placed the plate in front of me, when I brought it up to the waitress' attention she said "what do you want me to do about it, your sitting outside" which i understand I am sitting outside. But that's how I received my food. The name of our waitress was Rosey. Also in addition we were eating with friends and our friend had a hair on her sausage but didn't want to bring it up because of the comment the waitress made. I love a good breakfast diner. I've been driving by this place for over thirty years and recently decded to give in to my curiosity. I am so glad I did. We were worried that such an old school place wouldn"t be wheelchair accessible but they have both indoor and outdoor accessible seating. The staff are straight up classic waitresses who greet you like local friends, promptly bring beverages and take orders that they remember and serve quickly and efficiently. The food is delicious and hearty as only diner food can be. The portions are suitable to eat and take home for if you have any room for later (yeah, right). My wife's classic Benedict was, as she said, in the top three she's ever had. I had the Taco Scramble because it was an uncommon breakfast choice that had all the elements of breakfast that I wanted and more. The real standout were the biscuits, though. Fluffy squares of lightly browned, perfectly warmed goodness; perfect on their own, better with butter, and a great breakfast dessert with jam. Actually, the biscuits alone are worth a visit. I will definitely not be waiting another 30 years to visit again. I do understand that they are jammed on weekends so I'll probably stick to the "retired guy" week day visits. read more
