I went to Rising Sun because my regular Teriyaki shop was closed on Sundays. While Rising Sun is competent (mostly), it is a bit bizarre, and I'm not planning on returning. This is a TINY shop, with only two tables for dining in (doesn't appear to be COVID-related, that's just how small this place is). Upon my arrival, there were two diners and nobody behind the counter. After about five minutes, an employee came from the back to take my order, and promptly disappeared again. While I waited (approximately 20 minutes), several others arrived, and also had to wait for somebody to come out of the kitchen are to help them. Most appeared to be picking up phoned-in orders. For each, the apparent owner of the establishment came out and chatted with them, complaining about the fact that he'd not eaten anything that day, that the city made him pay for inspections even during COVID, that the soft drink vendor charged them for the soda fountain and maintenance, etc. even during COVID. This seemed a bit too personal and unprofessional to be discussed with brand-new customers within earshot. The most troubling was his mention of "rat poop", but I didn't hear any other details. He was also wearing dollar store flip flops, which also smacked of unprofessionalism. Portion size is bigger than expected, but the ratio of protein to sides seems to be disproportionately skewed toward the cheaper ingredients. Flavor is lacking, and the noodles were far more oily than I've had anywhere else. One star extra because they're open on Sundays.

Solid. not blow your doors off good. It would probably be like a 6.5/10 if there was a scale for that.

They got their food, we had to ask that waitress (not our waitress who never came back for our soup we ordered 1/2 hour ago. Mix up between waitresses causing them to over charge all of us for drinks that had already been paid for, etc. A real shit show. I eat at the restaurant frequently: once a month for years. Now they want a credit card to order food!!! I will never do that again as orders got on my credit card for people I didnt' even know. Ambiance: old fart dive bar I invited out 20+ people for dinner and the live music so decided to meet in the bar. Good thing we did or would not of had a seat together as place was busy. The band was good but will never eat in the bar and give them my credit card again. The extremely bad, incompetent service caused the majority of this review. I PAID CASH FOR MY TICKET THEN THE NEXT DAY THEY CHARGED MY CREDIT CARD!!!!! DO NOT EVER GIVE THIS BUSINESS YOUR CREDIT CARD. Of course they are closed today so I can even talk to anyone about it.

The flavors of the food across the board are so much stronger and complex than literally all other Chinese food restaurants I've ever patronized. Their operating model, though, is confusing. They have a lot of "ready now" entrees pre-made for immediate service (think "Panda Express"), and several others that are made-to-order. The "made to order" seems to be the better choice, as what's in the "ready to go" section may well have been sitting around long enough to get soggy. I know this from firsthand experience when some of my General Tso's chicken was the last of what was premade, and the rest was fresh. Not surprisingly, the fresh portion was hot and crispy (and DELICIOUS), and the portion from the premade batch was soggy and lukewarm. There are two chairs in the interior for patrons, so be prepared to stand while your order is filled. Parking is easy as Mar's is attached to a unique and charming Country store with its own parking lot.

I ordered the General Tso's Chicken, with steamed rice and an Eggroll. Also Hot and Sour soup. Soup was delivered quickly... and it was good. Nice egg flowers, black fungus and tofu... flavor was adequate. Not spicy though. They soon brought out my main course, and there was a HUGE portion of General Tso's Chicken. Very crispy crust, and tender chicken. Sauce was ok.. again, not spicy. Eggroll was really large, and tasty. Rice was nicely cooked and didn't taste like it had set in a steamer for hours. Great service... good food. Whats not to like? Far better than the last place I tried.

I'm allergic to shrimp, so the server gave us extra BBQ pork slices in our won ton soup. The soup was delicious. We appreciate that the soup base wasn't salty. The won tons were cooked perfectly. The soup had vegetables as well. The Mongolian beef was tasty, and went well with the brown rice we ordered. The garden vegetables were slightly overcooked, but plentiful. I loved the light sauce because it didn't overpower the crisp-tender vegetables. We also ordered hot green tea. We appreciated that they offer free refills. The quantity served was greater than expected. Enough for a second dinner at home tomorrow. This will be our go-to place locally for Chinese food. Service was excellent. Plus, they gave my husband a military discount (he's a U.S. Air Force veteran). The restaurant was busy. Not too loud. My husband and I were still able to carry on a conversation. I highly recommend Taste of China for those looking for reasonable prices, a nice selection of Chinese dishes, wonderful service, and good food. It's across the street from Costco, on the same side of the road as Home Depot. We will definitely be back.
