We ordered takeout for dinner on 4.17.18. The lady who answered the phone was really nice. When we arrived the hostess was also very kind and hospitable. But when we got home to enjoy our food the chicken was overcooked, the bulgur wheat was very bland, no seasoning at all. The hummus as we know from the other toros in clifton is always very creamy and decadent wasn't this time. My mother who loves the bulgur wheat is a huge fan and that is one reason why we continued to be loyal customer at toros, she was very disappointed. We were in the area and tried Toros. Wow ! Charming little restaurant with beautiful table service. We selected our table and were very comfortable. Haluck was very attentive, opened our wine immediately, and offered his recommendation from the very large menu: a combination platter which had an abundance of delicious chicken, beef and rice. I had frequented Toro's in Clifton and always enjoyed their food so when they opened their Upper Montclair location we had to try it. This is the authentic Turkish cuisine that I grew up eating. They start you off with warm delicious bread with an oil and balsamic dipping sauce. For an appetizer we had the baba ghanoush that was excellent. For my entree I had chicken, onions, peppers and kavlaka cheese (Chicken Sote) with a side of rice that I enjoyed very much. My wife had the Kofte (minced beef) also with a side of rice and veggies that she said was excellent. This is a nice comfortable place where the service is always friendly and accommodating. I never get tired of eating this kind of food and look forward to coming back soon. read more

Been to this location on numerous occasions over the past year. Weekday lunch specials are always a great deal. Perfect for a busy day when you need a great meal to turn things around. Dinner service is also great. My friends and I tend to like things on the spicier side and the owner and staff were very happy to provide us with customized hot 'special' sauces. They also have a nice outdoor courtyard area, which made us feel comfortable during the past year. Overall the food is great and the service is outstanding. Have been at the Clifton and Paterson locations in the past but did not know there was a new location in Montclair. Stopped in by chance while Christmas shopping. It was fairly early so it was not crowded but due to an expected large party in the main dining room we sat by the kitchen. Only ordered soup and appetizers. The red lentil soup was very good. Tabbouleh was fine but needed just a dash of lemon. The hummus was good and the babagannush was nice and smoky. The Turkish coffee was just exactly as we remembered it in Istanbul. Overall it was a very pleasant meal with very good service. One slight downside. The seating area by the kitchen is rather narrow and tight. No one's fault but less ideal than eating in the main dining area. We noticed that it can get noisy and hot. But it did not significantly detract from the overall dining experience. Would we return? If you make a reservation at this place, make sure you have a backup place in mind because Toros Montclair is not good at honoring their reservations. I had made a reservation for lunch 5 days in advance, only to have them call me the night before saying that they "made a mistake" and can't honor the outdoor seating reservation and that we'd have to sit inside. We only wanted outdoor seating, so we were forced to cancel. To me the reason behind the change is because they probably had a larger or more important customer come in and wanted to take our table to accommodate them. This is not how you do business and as a result I'll never eat here or at any other Toros location again. What a horrible way to conduct business. read more

Used to be 5 stars but something happened and now not that great. Knowing some people have "bad days" I gave this place a good 4 or 5 times before writing this review. First of all, service wasn't great. Came in at lunch time and no staff in sight. Had to walk around and eventually go out back to find someone. All the staff were out back talking. Felt like I was interrupting. Was told to sit anywhere I want. The lunch is a good deal, but food quality is poor. I ordered calamari from the main menu but it was under seasoned and very chewy. We ate a few pieces and left the remainder. Most restaurants would have asked if anything was wrong. This one didn't. There are plenty of good restaurants in Montclair so I probably won't be back. Stopped in for the lunch special with a group from work and was welcomes by the waitress/server her name was Nihal We weren't very familiar of the menu but Nihal explained the apps and entrees to us and was Very helpful. We each ordered some different items and I had the lentil soup which was great and also had the chicken kebab which was delicious and tender and juicy, it came with rice. My coworkers all enjoyed their app/soups/entrees and nothing was left on the plates. The restaurant was crowded for lunch and Nihal came over a couple times to check on us which was VERY nice and professional. The atmosphere was relaxed comfortable. toros in upper montclair is not ready for outdoor dining as of yet, which saddens me so. i just got home from outdoor dining there to my dismay!!!!! their food is top notch and i'm not addressing that in this review. where to begin? the main host isn't on premises. i washed my own table w/4 CLOROX WIPES that had too much dirt on it!!!!! there's no enforcement of patrons leaving their tables w/out masks!!!!! i saw at least 4 people walk into the restaurant w/out masks, i gather to use the restroom. they do not have paper menus, only hard surface ones!!!! there's no hand sanitizer offered to diners. TABLES ARE NOT SPACED 6 FEET APART!!!!! if you sit in the alleyway or out front you will be 6 feet apart. fortunately i was in the alleyway, but full of mosquitoes. there were no bug candles outside, so you may wish to bring your own. fortunately we brought our own napkins and silverware.also the ice bucket we were given had food debris on it and we observed a busboy/table cleaner not wearing a mask!!!! despite all this we tipped 45% for the waitstaff is clearly putting themselves at risk. finally, i am comfortable ordering take-out from toros but not outdoor dining w/them during the pandemic. i know for a fact that this would NEVER happen at DE NOVA, SLA THAI, LABORATORIA KITCHEN, or FAUBOURG. read more

I visited Istanbul not long ago and I was craving the delicious cuisine. I came across Toros in Montclair and I am quite pleased. It was clean and the service was excellent! The food was delicious! The bread tasted just like the one in Turkey and the chicken and lamb was cooked to perfection! I would surely recommend this place to my friends. :) There is a nice park behind... It's a nice place to walk off the food. The portions are big so you will surely have some leftovers. read more
