Just got a DoorDash delivery. Half the food, especially the salad tasted spoiled or off. The hummus had rotten garlic paste on it that stunk like a dead body. The Greek salad had an ammonia scent. I've been to the Fairfield Falafel House a few times now. My experience is that they are inconsistent. First time was excellent. Everything was fresh and delicious. The second time wasn't all that great. This the third visit was mixed. We ordered a lamb kebab platter which was very good. Tender cubes of lamb served with white sauce, rice and salad. Fresh and flavorful. We also ordered vegetarian grape leaves which were excellent as well. Served warm and perfectly seasoned. The final item was a chicken kebab sandwich which wasn't very good at all. There really wasn't much chicken and the little bit of chicken was bland and very dry. We typically do take out and the staff is on point. The prices are just a bit on the high side for this type of fare. The dining room is small and tastefully appointed. I've eaten here a few times and had a good experience. I ordered takeout this week and got a Greek salad, which was packaged with no dressing, and added chicken. For $7, this is the chicken that was provided. They said it is one skewer, but it truly must be the world's tiniest skewer, because I have never seen a skewer that only holds four tiny pieces of chicken which, as you can see, are smaller than the tiny dressing cup. Wow - no notes. This place is hands down our favorite Mediterranean spot so far in the area. We came with our toddler for lunch, not expecting to be completely blown away by how fresh everything was. We enjoyed the muhammarah dip and tabbouleh salad as starters. Our toddler absolutely crushed the kids chicken kabob platter, which is a full adult portion in of itself. We also tried the gyro platter, which was a stand out dish - each piece of meat was juicy and also charred to perfection. The toum or garlic sauce was the perfect accompaniment and didn't leave us embarrassed of our breath to socialize with others after. Highly recommend this establishment! Tonight I ordered the Chicken Swarma platter for delivery. * They don't deliver. *OK, I'll pick up. The menu quoted 19.00 platter, and as a last minute impulse I asked for an order of Baklava. I picked it up and was charged $34.10. I got a five and a one in change after I passed two twenties and a dime. The food I had in front of me was NOT nor ever been a Chicken Swarma. Its little hard nuggets hid a bed of under cooked rice. There was a two once cup of dried hard white sauce pretending to be cucumber mint. Finally I had Diarrhea to top off a crappy experience. I think the flavors were there but the meat was a bit dry & it was a little expensive when I think the servings could have been bigger. Hummus was really smooth and delicious served with whole chickpeas and authentic Mediterranean olive oil, in a perfect world this would have been served with a hard boiled egg (was sorry to hear they don't sell it by the pint as would have loved to take some home) Greek salad was very good and had red cabbage which I have not seen before but it works, the large is indeed a sizable portion. The shish kebab (beef fillet) was the star of the meal Chicken kebab had a nice kick, but would have preferred a fattier cut like thighs Lamb kebab was a bit chewy but well seasoned. I got 4 things and will write my opinion. 1. Hummus-bland and even tho I like olive oil it was slightly bitter. Try Cappadoccia in Little falls for great hummus. 2. Muhammara- It was also bland. Lots of red pepper skin that made certain bites weird. Try King of Shish in Totowa (Syrian style) 3. Gyro sandwich-Pretty good and tasty. I would order again. Stamna in Bloomfield is my go to choice. 4. Promo chicken sandwich-tasted like shawarma which was not bad but no charcoal flavor or char as advertised. If you enjoy Middle Eastern food, check this place out. Just opened. Delicious food (somewhat misnamed since this is so much more than a falafel joint). The hummus with meat, baba ganoush, eggplant salad, salmon platter, lamb kabob platter, chicken shawarma platter and mixed platter (and not pictured the kofta platter and the arayes toshka meat & cheese app) were all excellent. Ordered a few platters for take out and was very surprised on how good the food was. Lots of times it's hit or miss with new Mediterranean places but everything here was cooked and seasoned well. A friendly employee came around the counter to help me pick up my bag. The restaurant was clean and very well set up. If more time allowed I would have just eaten there. I ordered the falafel sandwich and the mixed falafel house sampler. The sandwich was hefty, but so well balanced. It also came with fries that were pretty tasty! Despite me taking a minute to pick my food up the falafel were still crunchy yet moist on the inside. The pickles and red cabbage offered the perfect crunch and acidity to complement them. Served inside a pita, I was able to not make a mess of myself. I cannot wait to try the rest of the sandwiches. The sampler was absolutely beautiful and equally delicious. The hummus was silky smooth. Baba ghanouj had a slight lemon tang and had a nice smoky flavor. The muhammara.... Oh my word the muhammara. My hubby picked up not long and for about $50 we got two appetizers, a sandwich and a plate. It is way more than we can eat in one sitting so essentially we have two meals for each of us. I loved that it was served in a pita pocket and wrapped in paper instead of in a folded pita wrapped in foil like most places do. Was so much easier to eat, plus no foil to accidentally bite into and get that yikes! sudden feeling that rubs thru your body when you do.
