They also feature their entire regular menu too so you will find something. I tried to the Middle Eastern eggs which came with fried eggs, humus, labne, salad, and a pita. It's pricey at $16 but it was a well balanced and flavored meal. My husband got a granola bowl with honey and fruit and it was a very generous portion with some amazing fresh fruit! The tomato sauce in the dish didn't go with the dish and tasted as if it were jarred. Great food but pathetic service when we went. The server / manager was beyond rude. For reservation at 8 pm , we got table at 8:40 pm. Manager was unapologetic, in fact told us that she was planning on canceling our reservation. They served us water in champagne glass cos they didn't have enough glasses. When we tried order, we were told kitchen closes at 9 ( which was a lie ). There were atleast 3 other customers being treated rudely at the same time and one of them told "good luck". At the end , when we asked the manager if she thought her behavior was appropriate, her response was "I don't care and you guys expecting a lot". It was a stroke of luck that I found Uncle Momo on a visit to some of Montclair's beautiful gardens because I had a great experience in their location in Jersey City a few years ago! We were a bit early for a Saturday dinner so were able to grab a window seat for our party of 5 right away - and it was the best seat in the house! They were limiting capacity by placing giant teddy bears on many of their tables and had QR code menu but offered a hardcopy to our non-smartphone member. Let's get straight to food! Momo Mezze (APP, $21, 5/5) - A great appetizer choice to explore a whopping SIX of their apps! We ordered Babaganoush, Rahib, Hummus, Moutabal Beets, Mujadara, and Labne and served with freshly toasted pita bread, 5 of us went into a dipping and piling up frenzy! Beets and Babaganoush were really refreshing with Labne (yogurt), Eggplant was nice and meaty and only the lentil was ever so slightly tough. This got us all revved up - highly recommended for a group. Lamb Tagine (Special, $28, 4/5) - The entree that wow'd me at Jersey city. It came with nice big bone-in lamb shank in a pan with just dates and apricots and light sauce. A bit lacking in presentation compared to the JC one, but the lamb was just as decadent. Meat was easily shredded off the bone with fork and knife, had zero lamb smell, and very tender and not dry at all. Coupled with jasmine rice it came with (we ordered extra rice) and the delectable bits of date and apricot which gives this dish that sweet taste, it was the right order. Only minus was the lack of any other veggies (other location had onions, etc. and better presented) and that it was 10% too sweet! Momo Pitza (Oven Baked, $15, 3/5) - Very light, airy and crispy crust with delicious light vegetable toppings. Easy to eat & enjoy. Nothing overly special although good to have. Chicken Shish Kabab Plate (Entree, $18, 3/5) - Again thought it was a bit too simple in presentation, but chicken was juicy (but a bit too salty!), and the mushed lentil was really hearty and good with boiled tomato in the center. Slightly one-dimensional in flavor though not bad. Muhalabia (Dessert, $6.25, 5/5) - Milk pudding with rose water & strawberries. This was a surprising hit with everyone. Great refreshing finish to a hearty meal, that silky milk flavor was perfectly matched to the hint of delectable rose flavor for the win. Pistachio Ice Cream (Dessert, $7.50, 5/5) - Love how it had great bites of pistachio and was NOT TOO SWEET! My mom and wife really loved it. Turkish coffee (Dessert, $3.50, 2/5) - A bit stale and not very fragrant Baklava (Dessert, $4.75, 2/5) - This one definitely sat in the display for a while because we could immediately tell it wasn't too fresh. In fact, we had to struggle to cut it in half (we were sharing) with a KNIFE. That isn't how a baklava is supposed to be! No sir! A BYOB place, so bring your wine and beer! At slightly over $100 for a party of 5, we were really satisfied overall and felt really good. Location is beautiful too on a nice happening street and their outdoor seating looked beautiful as well. I walked in at 3:45pm. The doors and windows were wide open. The women sat in front was eating food and told me the restaurant was closed. Didn't bother to mention an opening time. So I went for a walk until 4pm (the listed opening time). When I returned, the same woman was sat on her phone and said we're still closed because we need to eat so won't be open for another 15 minutes. Very poor customer service -- guests (especially pregnant guests like me) shouldn't be turned away after the official opening hours. Disappointing and rude first impression. read more

What we ordered; Hummus -Chickpeas, tahini, lemon juice and extra virgin olive oil. Lamb Tajine - Traditional moroccan slow cooked lamb shanks with caramelized prunes & almonds, served with basmati rice. Chicken Shish Kabab Plate -Chicken breast with basil, garlic and lentil puree. Simply love this place. Located right around the corner from where a dear friend of mine lives in Montclair so we love to walk there and grab a great meal. BYOB always makes it even that much better. I get the same meal every time and it's called chicken Tajine. Delicious flavor and the chicken is so tender and moist and falls right off the bone it's actually making me wish I had some left over from last nights meal so I can have it for lunch today. The food was good, they were able to seat our party of 5 immediately during holiday week, and the service was friendly (although I'm pretty sure it was a one woman show so I was impressed at how good she was keeping up with the whole place alone). I tried the smoked salmon omelette and it was different from anything I've had before but it was very good. The side salad it came with was also flavorful and dressed well which was a pleasant surprise. They were out of a few items so I didn't get to try the Moroccan mint tea, but that's something to look forward to next time. My only drawbacks of Uncle Momo were: the heating (was basically nonexistent, we wore our coats the whole time) and they were sold out of a few items so we couldn't order everyone's first choice for food/drink. Although, after eating at Uncle Momo i've realized all the good food i've been missing out on. First off, I really enjoyed the decor and how homey it is inside. The lights are dimmed for the evening so the ambiance is super warm and inviting. LABNE - super tasty with a slight tartness, goes perfectly with the pita. It was a great appetizer bc if you don't finish it you can use it for your entree as well! That's what i did at least haha! PISTACHIO CRUSTED SALMON - this is probably one of the most delicious ways i've had salmon before. It was cooked perfectly, crispy outside and the inside melted in my mouth. The basmati rice on the side was so fluffy too! CHICKEN PITZA - if you're kind of iffy on what to pick, i would get this. It literally is a pizza but with pita bread and no cheese. It wasn't bad, it is exactly what it says it is! In conclusion, I can't wait to go back and try the rest of their menu. Uncle Momo has been around forever, and we have been eating there, intermittently, forever. The menu has evolved since my previous (2016) review. The lamb tajine, while still delicious, is a lot sweeter than previously, and there are no accompanying vegetables. Also, the moussaka is nothing like any moussaka you would order in a Greek restaurant. This one is a mix of ground lamb and chopped eggplant in a tomato-based sauce -- very tasty, but quite different from my concept of moussaka. Rahib and Moutabal beets are excellent appetizers. They now take reservations, and you should make one, especially on weekends, because the place fills up fast. Also open for scrumptious breakfasts and lunches. BYOB. Just like old times, we brought a bottle of wine with us (it's BYOB!) and upon being seated, immediately remembered why we fell in love with Uncle Momo to begin with. I find the ambiance to be everything I love- perfectly lit and cozy. I feel like I'm in some sort of Parisian cafe! The felafel appeared without spices, and was a yellow color on the inside instead of it's usual greenish/brown tinge from spices like fresh parsley which is usually added. That was a disappointment. We tried Uncle Momo after looking for a halal option in Montclair's downtown (Bloomfield Avenue). While Uncle Momo is further away from the main Bloomfield Avenue Area, it is worth checking out. They offer an interesting menu filled with tasteful options.
