Okay i might be a little impulsive today with this review but when i enjoy my food, the restaurant has to be thanked! I only knew about this place thanks to yelp as usual. Durum Doner is pretty close to the gym i go to which is good...and very bad! Lol Anyway, when i arrived I didnt notice the place right away and had to do a couple of turns. Inside was nice and cozy. It wasnt a very large place but had enough space to accommodate maybe 10-15 people? There is also outside seating. I bet its nice during a nice sunny weather. As you can see in the photos submitted by many Yelpers, the food looks very good! One of the things that caught my attention was actually how they prepare their plates and how nicely the meats were cooked. When i tasted my orders, they did not disappoint one bit! Chicken and beef were very flavorful and the smell that wafted inside the car as i was bringing them home was sooo darn good it was almost torture. The rice that came with the beef and chicken gyro was flavorful for some reason and the mix of "noodle strings?" was surprisingly very good. Pita bread was nice and soft although became a bit soggy after since it was placed below the meat. Perhaps it was also to catch the oil? Hmm. But either way, i was a happy customer today and ate my big fill...Fyi after a workout. Not good!! But sometimes you just have to be bad right? Will definitely be recommending this place! read more

Went in on a whim after searching for Mediterranean food in the area. The place is small so if you're not looking for it, you might miss it. Inside seating isn't much (1 big table and 2 or 3 small tables for couples), but it seems they have outdoor tables as well in the summer. The woman at the counter was super friendly and welcoming. She gave us time to look through the menu and was still attentive. We ordered the hummus, stuffed grape leaves, cigarette rolls, and chicken shish entree. The grape leaves were a little bland, but the rest of the food was great. It was nice to get each of our dishes as it was ready rather than have it sit on the counter and get cold. The chef was even nice enough to bring out a bowl of chicken soup on the house. The only negatives would be that vegetarian options are limited to mainly appetizers and falafel, and the pricing is a little bit on the higher side considering the portion size. Overall, its a nice little mom and pop spot to visit when you're craving some good Turkish food. read more

The lunch portion came with plenty of food. The red lentil soup was delicious. It was full of flavor with a slight kick to it which made it very enjoyable. The chicken shish was amazing- full of flavor and cooked well. The rice and salad were the perfect side dishes, however I could have done with not as much dressing in the salad, but still tasted great. After having lived in Totowa for 8 years, my brother and I stopped into this gem of a restaurant for the first time today. The lady at the counter was so sweet, made conversation with us, and even offered us a delicious cup of warm turkish tea while we waited. The tea was so inviting we actually ended up switching our order from take out to dine-in, and they kindly accommodated that as well. We both ordered platters, chicken gyro for me and beef/lamb shish for my brother, and the portions were sizable. I took half home for dinner while my brother finished his entire plate on the spot. The chicken was tender and savory, the rice buttery and flavorful, and the pita soft and warm. Would definitely recommend! I have had this establishment bookmarked on my list of places to try for a while. While running Saturday afternoon errands in the area, decided to stop by with my daughter to give it a try. What a fantastic find! From the second we walked in the door, the husband and wife owner team were super friendly and inviting. My daughter chose the Gyro and I chose the adena kabob wrap along with a side order of fries. As we were waiting for our food to arrive, a few other customer stopped in and they seemed to have favorable past experiences. We noticed baba ghanouj in the service counter and the owner encouraged us to try some - since it was homemade. When I asked for a small sample along with their homemade hummus, she obliged with a nice size sample plate. It was so good, we decided to take a container home with us for the rest of the family to try! Looks like they do a lot of takeout, having three tables for those who wish to dine in. We decided to stay there to eat in the restaurant and glad we did. This great restaurant it's worth a stop if you are in the neighborhood or even driving by on interstate 80. One of the best Turkish restaurants in Totowa, NJ area. It's a nice and cozy family owned restaurant. The food is authentic and everything is made from scratch. We order Salata as the appetizer which served with Pita bread. For main course we ordered Lamb Adana gyro and Tavuk Doner plate (chicken gyro platter)served with the pilaf style rice. Quality, home made Turkish food run by a very sweet couple. From the moment you walk in, they are extremely accommodating and treat you like you're in their home. Excellent, fresh-tasting hummus. The french fries are the star here and made from scratch. Some were a little hard and undercooked but not a big deal. Very flavorful. Tbh this was the best döner/kabob I had in New Jersey I'm from VA and I come here (to New Jersey) to eat real Turkish food and most of the time their not that great but for the first time I found an amazing restaurant they have really great prices large portions and tastes authentic and really good . Probably the best middle eastern food I've ever had in my life. The hummus has a thicker consistency but the texture and flavor is on point. Their falafel is fluffier and lighter and just perfect with flavor as well. Their cucumber dill yogurt sauce is delicious. My husband got chicken Doner and I got a ground beef kabob. The spices were on point! Everything we had was excellent. The rice pudding and baklava were probably the best I've ever tasted. Small place with a few tables. You can tell they grilled the eggplant first from that smokiness you taste; super smooth texture; the warm pita bread is the perfect vessel for the salata or honestly, I can just eat this by the spoonful) *doner kebab (beef gyro; not bad, I have had better but the one thing I liked about this is that it's not oily like some other places) inegol kofte (similar to sausage but definitely doesn't taste like sausage; the meat has a lot of flavor and is a little on the floral side; not my thing but I can appreciate the spices) *rice (OMG, their rice is amazing! This is a legit Turkish restaurant. I know because I am Turkish. I was very pleased with the quality of their meats here. The chicken and Adana(spiced hamburger like meat cooked on a skewer)were seasoned perfectly and their gyro meat was very lean and delicious in my opinion-rice was very good too. For those of you yelpers that don't already know, Turkish cooks pride themselves on the quality of their ingredients and they do not over season their meats because it would ruin an already amazing product. So for those yelpers that indicated no flavor, this is why. If you're looking for something with more spices then I would recommend an Afghan, Indian, or more Arab centric kebab house. I personally do not like a lot of spices in my meat, but to each his own. If you want to hit up a real deal Turkish spot then I would definitely recommend Durum Doner and bring your stretchy pants, lol. read more
