My parents took me here once for tacos. I have tried this place before for other items, I have to say that their cabeza tacos were really good. My dad had a torta ahogada and he is very critical when it comes to food. I didn't try it but the fact that he finished it and didn't complain that says a lot lol. I thought Id try to find a decent Mexican food place in Tolleson and noticed Tortas Ahogadas George in a strtip mall near 95th Ave & Van Buren. I walked up to the counter to see the menu, said "Hi" to the guy behind the counter. I was greeted by a very unfreindly (actually hateful) stare by the dude who said nothing in reply. I immediately decided to leave, not wanting to risk my health by eating anything made in such a sketchy atmosphere. There are several Mexican food restaurant choices in Tolleson and I'll keep trying till I find one I like. Food was amazing enchiladas feels like they were homemade, tamales taste a little like if they were frozen. Had a lemonade and it was in a big cup that 2 ppl were able to share. Service was great really friendly and helpful. The tables were clean had music loud but not to much that you can still talk to ppl around you. My wife & I really enjoy their Torta Ahogada de Carnitas and the Tacos dorados de papa con carnitas as well. The courtesy salsa & chips are a great perk to eating in house as I would purchase an order if that were an option. We have always had service with a smile from the order taker, the person that brings you the chips & also the one bringing the food out to your table. I am hoping this is the correct name for this Mexican food restaurant. Sad to report another One And Done for us. First of all the guy at the counter messed up the order but they quickly fixed it so that was good. My carnitas were actually pretty good but nothing to make me come back. My wife had a combo plate of a tostada, taco, rice and beans and she said it was just average at best. The beans are decent and also the rice. The inside is old and dated and is like walking into a very old Filiberto's type place. Plastic place settings. The chips were on the stale side. I understand that the tacos are what people come here for late in the evening so I guess it's a standing room only then and they cook outside. Moral of this story is for me it a one and done but I leave it up to you to come try it. No ambience but maybe you will like the food. Try the late night tacos, what do you have to lose. read more

We ordered here for lunch and sadly we were both disappointed. With all the good reviews I was really hoping to love it. I'll do this by meal: "Enchiladas": the pictures in the reviews showed your typical enchiladas so I thought that's what I was getting. I got what looked like 3 unfried rolled tacos with the tortillas DIPPED in the enchilada sauce rather than covered in it. I got one adobada, one pollo and one deshebrada. The pollo had a good start so I thought it won't be so bad that I didn't get what I was expecting. But then I tried the adobada. I've had a lot of adobada and this was the strangest flavor I've ever had. It tasted like pineapple and had an even weirder after taste. So I didn't eat that one. The deshebrada was nothing to brag about. Kind of dry and since I didn't have the typical smothered enchiladas I didn't have anything to help the dryness except salsa. I also didn't get a lot of meat so the one enchilada I was ok with eating wasn't filling. Salsa: The salsa was SUPER watery and bland. Like a tomato was just squeezed for the juice and had a couple light spices added. So when I did try to use it on the dry meat I had to DRENCH it just to taste anything and the taste was a little odd. But again it didn't look like it had the traditional salsa ingredients. Tacos: I got one adobada (which as mentioned above, I didn't eat because the flavor was weird), one pollo (as above it was decent) and a bistec which was again nothing to brag about. I gave points for the amount of meat. They did pack on quite a bit but I wish I could say the same for the enchiladas. Carne asada fries/mini asada fries: my husband was not thrilled by the fries and neither was I. The meat was again dry, they were very ungenerous with the cheese and the fries were very disappointing. Most asada fries we've had are thicker fries and these were skimpy and weak. Overall, I wish I hadn't wasted the money because it wasn't cheap and we were left unsatisfied. The 2 stars I gave are for the presentation and the decent pollo and the generous amount of meat on the tacos. Won't be trying again. read more

The restaurant has a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere and the staff is very friendly and accommodating. The owner went out of his way to explain the menu and even made suggestions on what he thought we might like. You place your oder at the counter and your entree is delivered to your table. The menu is not too large but covers most everything you would see in a typical Guadalajara restaurant with one catch; everything is made fresh. Today, I opted for the Tacos de Barbacoa and my lunch companion had the pork chili verde. Both entrees were seasoned perfect, moist, and full of flavor and the corn tortillas were made from fresh masa, one of the best tortillas I've had. Seriously delicious. The service was a bit quiet and standoffish but this is counter service so totally do-able. There is a salsa bar with radishes, spicy carrots, etc. Shared the 2 shredded burrito plate with my daughter. The burritos were amazingly delicious. I didn't taste any of the rice, beans or salad but she enjoyed them. The picture showed a few chips on the plate and we didn't get any so that was a little disappointing.
