Since moving from California, I have been searching for a good taco place. I've tried several. But haven't found one to match my favorite place in California. I ran across Tacos Calafia today and thought I would give it a try. Nice little place. Friendly service. Unfortunately the tacos were just average. The meat had very little flavor. I LOVE Tacos Calafia! The best tacos hands down! This place is always steady or busy when we come in which is a good sign. The food is authentic and absolutely delicious. Typically, I order carne asada tacos -- my picky daughter loves the food here too! They have a salsa bar with onions, cilantro, limes, different salsas, radishes, grilled onions and jalapeños. We use to consider this our favorite taco place but I have been recently disappointed with the texture of their asada meat and their portions. The asada has been chewy and we need to spit it out because it is too hard to chew through and you find little hard bits and pieces. They have shrunk their burritos and portions noticeably. What a nice little taco place. I went here with a friend and when you walk in it instantly feels inviting. It was nice that there was quite a bit of space to spread out and you don't feel like you're sitting on top of anybody. We also loved that there was an open condiment bar that we were able to grab our onions, cilantro, limes, guacamole and salsas but we had to ask the kitchen for a plate to put all the goodies on. We both ordered three tacos, I got two carne asada and one al pastor. You get the choice of corn or flour tortillas and I chose flour. The tacos arrived fairly quickly and all of the meats were super fresh and delicious. The only call out I would say is they are very small for $2.86 each. Next time I would have gotten an additional taco as I was still hungry. Other than that, we we enjoyed our time here and appreciated that we were able to talk without feeling like we needed to give up our table. I'll definitely go back. read more

I stopped by Tacos Calafia, hoping for some delicious tacos. The interior is spacious, and they seem quite busy. They offer the usual grilled meats carne asada, al pastor, pollo , cabeza, and Nopales but very few ways to try those meats. I ordered a carne asada taco $2.99 and a Vampiro $4.72 with a small drink. I have to say I was really disappointed the taco and Vampiro were comically small they must use the smallest tortillas you can buy! The best part of the meal was a very good salsa bar with several salsas, guacamole, grilled onions, and peppers. I spent $11.00 and left hungry so much so I bought a burger on the way home! In my opinion, the food is not worth the prices that they charge for petite tacos and Vampiros. read more

On a road trip out of town we needed a little bit of food but just couldn't fathom hitting a fast food place. I looked this up on yelp and decided to give it a try. I'm glad we did. It's very simple. A couple of meats, couple styles and an awesome salsa bar. One thing that was amazing was the Beans that you can add meat to. This is so delicious and reminds me of Home. One of my top go-to places when I am in the mood for tacos. One of the things that has always stood out to me was them having a nopal option. They also have a good michelada mix. The line moved pretty quickly for a weekend and there wasn't a lot of people so we were able to get a table right away. They have a great selection of sauces and other toppings. This is a convenient and quick taco spot. I tried the carne asada, el pastor, and cabeza tacos. They are very small, I could have easily had about 4 or 5 since I was so hungry haha. So...Came in today with friends. It was their first visit. Usually we have a great experience but not today. Manager was rude as was the cashier. She Messed up our order and got an attitude with us and said it was our fault. Horrible. Then she proceeded to tell a Veteran they are allowed one Military discount per day. From the first bite of the vampiro you could tell the food was different - and better. Crunch after crunch of the fried corn taco shell covered with stringy rich cheesy goodness mixed perfectly with the smoky tender Al pastor meet. The home made salsa and guacamole bar provided a level of customization that was delicious and unique. Loved the grilled jalapeños too. While I was there we also tried the tacos. This is an update from my last experience here. I placed a to go order when my number got called I went up to get it she said what's your order number? I told her my number she replied this is your food and I said no I ordered to go plus what she had there was multiple items I only ordered a quesadilla. She had terrible attitude and replied with I didn't ask what you ordered I asked for your number and I showed her my receipt since she didn't know how to listen and wrapped that order and gave it to me. Mind you this is the cashier she was not wearing gloves and was handling food! I told her again this is not my order mine is only a quesadilla and she said this is your order I know what you ordered I said ok. Yeah she gave me an incorrect order and was not listening to anything I was saying, I ended up getting multiple items that I did not order. I sure hope she gets trained better or gets another job if she doesn't like hers. Also she should not be handling food and money at the same time specially if she is not wearing gloves when handling the food. This is the second location I have been too. As much as I like the other, this location is set up better. The floor plan is open and plenty of seating. The food and service are just as I expected, like the Thunderbird location, the staff seem to love their work and coworkers. It feels like family here. Now the food. Al Pastor is by far my favorite here. The flavors are very abundant. The marinade is delicious and the slow rotisserie cook is perfect. Tried the cabeza tacos this time, wow, great flavor. But I figured it out. Plane Jane menu. Meat by the pound and street tacos sold as singles. Your choice of meat and just ask for the flour or corn and how many. Before I can figure out where to pick up my tacos they were calling my number. The condiments we're simplistic and plentiful with Guacamole right next to the salsa and onions. Score! I sat by the wall because it was wide open. A bite after as I'm thinking "bomb tacos" the line was staring at the salsa down my shirt. I wasn't alone anymore.
