Like every other review says, don't just this place by its attachment to a gas station in an industrial area of Lewisville. The restaurant is clean, the people are friendly and the menu covers everything you need from a real Mexican food POV. Being a guy that likes most everything, I opted for the Cubana Torta and a side of chips and salsa. The Cubana is advertised as having a bit of everything, and from what I could decipher, it had (in English terms) pulled pork, ham, bacon, steak, hot dog, and egg on it. It was the egg and hot dog that I could not get past. I ate it but the soft consistency and flavors of those two were not making me want more. The chips appeared to be fried in-house but were a bit stale and the salsa was very chunky and served warm. Good, just different from any salsa I have had before. While I absolutely am going to come back again, I am afraid the Cubana was not the best first impression I could have gotten from Tortas DF. Right now, Taqueria La Candelaria's al pastor torta is still the best torta in the area IMO. For a dollar more, its considerably bigger and the meat is phenomenal. Downside there is that its cash-only and no chips and salsa option. read more

I had a restaurant.com gift certificate and figured I would try this place out. I got the carne asada torta and a torta mexicana that had milanesa and egg on top. First off, the size of the torta was deceiving. You think you got this HUGE sandwich but all the ingredients could easily fit on a bolillo roll you get at the grocery store. Too too much bread. The ingredients themselves were not fresh at all. The "freshest" item was probably the milanesa since that has to be fried. The asada tasted like it was sitting out for most of the time. I won't even speak of the vegetables. Afterwards, I regretted even eating any of it. My stomach was queasy for the rest of the day. I hate puking but I was really tempted to upchuck. read more

got this place on uber eats twice. i'm not a picky person so it takes a lot to be dissatisfied. the birria tacos were not good at all. no flavor, not even close to tasting like birria tacos. pastor tacos were awful. the meat looked grey and tasted worse. the barbacoa tacos were edible and the tres leches was OK. i basically threw away my whole order and had to get something else. should've taken pics before i did but i was pretty disappointed read more

The food is fresh and fantastic! Don't let the gas station location throw you off, this is some great Mexican food. Very clean too. Seth and I are HUGE breakfast burrito fans. We are regulars here because these guys make an awesome burrito. They put them together quickly and are the sweetest. Finally! So hard to find anything other than Tex-Mex in this area. This is certainly true Mexican food. Had the cubana and along with all the fillings the bread was just as good. It's a must try. The man at the register said if you had to choose a meat he would go with anything beer and he wasn't wrong there. Underrated place, the size of the tortas is really good

The best tortas I have ever had. The place is definitely a hole in the wall and actually is attached to a gas station, but the food is amazing and the people are very nice and friendly. Granted the tortas are almost twice as expensive as some other places--I paid $14 for a combo with fries and a drink--but it's because the tortas are twice as big as anywhere else, and they are also twice as delicious. I could not believe the size of the tortas when I first saw them. Honestly, I would bring a friend and split a torta, as you will still both walk out more than completely full. Oh my goodness, the food at Tortas DF is unbelievably delicious, and the friendly service makes the experience even better. Yes, it is a very unassuming place (a "hole in the wall"), and it's adjacent to an Exxon station, but who cares about all that... they make the best Tortas around. (For reference, we had the Cubana and the Texana - both were spectacular.) As other reviewers have mentioned, the portions are quite large, but of course you can take your leftovers to go. This is a hidden gem, and a must-try. And it's very easy to get to, right off Hwy 121. We will definitely return. read more
