Took my family here for lunch and wow! Dine-in service hits different, especially on the weekend. We were treated to a couple of beverages to go with our meal, patiently guided through the menu, including options that weren't even on display, and treated with incredible hospitality. Did you know the tortas have add-on options?? Like pineapple and grilled onions? We all enjoyed our meal, and I broke from my usual order and got the tacos al pastor - game changer. I haven't been here in a while and I wanted to try their Tortas because I've only have their tacos and they are good but not my favorite place. I ordered a Torta de Choriqueso and two tacos de lengua and some flan. The torta: Really good, packed with caramelized onions, and tomato along with the chorizo and queso. wished there was more cheese on it cuz I wanted it to be cheesy. This was very good tho, the bread has an interesting sweetness. The tacos de lengua: GET THEM, OH MY FREAKIN GOD GET THEM. Lengua can be easily to mess up as the meat is so tender and rich, but this is seasoned to perfection, not too little to where the tongue tastes like you're eating cubes of butter but not over seasoned to where the meat gets lost. The tamales we got must have been sitting for a couple days. Half was still moist and flavorful but the other half was stale. Also got an order of tacos and the same type of meat not carne asada. Realllllly incredible tamales. The corn masa they use is not like any I've had before, so yummy. The pork tamale was softer (masa) but the chicken one was tougher (chewy/cover cooked). Still both were delicious and I enjoyed every single bite. Everything was seasoned perfectly. Also got an al pastor taco and it was okay, the meat was overdone. My partner got the ham torta and did not expect or anticipate how much meat was inside of it. She said it wasn't bad but way too much of everything. The quest for Seattle's best tacos continues. As of today, this is the clubhouse leader. Still not the best, but the best in the area. The al pastor is very good. The cilantro didn't have much flavor. The green sauce was highly regarded and very good, but I think the red sauce is the real hero here. Smoky flavor that's usually not present. This place has solid Mexican cuisine. When I say Mexican I mean Mexican. As in don't expect sour cream in your burrito. This place definitely caters to a more authentic Mexican palate, you're not gonna find fries in the burritos here. No frills, just good ole Mexican fare. Have I emphasized that enough? Haha We had some tripas tacos and a burrito and they were all delectable. Nothing special, but still delicious in itself. I recommend getting the green salsa since it really added great flavor to the burritos and tacos. First timer here, and I say "WOW"! I had a burrito al pastor, and it was superb! There's hints of something sweet going on with the otherwise complex flavors. A pleasant surprise and a nice change! I think we just found a great hidden Mexican place in Renton. Me and my boyfriend wanted to try out Mexican food from new place that we never went to. We didn't look up on yelp, we just chose this because my bf had his eyes on this place as he drives by. So we parked and when we were about to enter, we thought it is deli not restaurant but we still went it. In side of store, they have place to seat like booth tables and seems like lots of people tent to order to go. We ordered mango cake, Carne Asada, 1 tamale and Mixotos (I think that was what it was called... idk) to go. While we were waiting for our food, we finally looked up on yelp and found out it is famous for big sandwiches. We regreted what we ordered and talked about coming again for sandwiches. BUT we totally under estimate this. It just didn't have many reviews. Customers were keep coming in and it was actually busy. Most of customers were local. Foods came out pretty fast. When we went home and opened the box we were surprised. Portion was big - so we ended up having left overs and had it again next day. They gave out spicy sauce to try out. Carne Asada had grilled jalapenos, lots of meat, and the rice was perfect. I didn't really like their bean but it was alright. Mixtos (?) 1/2lb braised lamb meal was just so good, too. Meat was tender and I loved how they have pickled green beans and onions and give out the cilantro on the side with enough number of limes!! Price is decent, too. Now I understand why it was so busy. As we sat in the car, half-starved and in search of tacos, my girlfriend and I came upon Tortas Locas. The pictures looked great and, as is common for other less-discerning search engines, there was a handful of four and five-star reviews with them. I knew I should have Yelped it, but I was starving. We ordered a 5-taco plate, two asada and three pastor; an asada burrito; and two extra asada tacos with a side of rice and beans. The tacos are street-style but use only a single, flimsy, corn tortilla. The pastor is definitely mediocre at best and almost definitely not sliced from a vertical grill. The asada is okay, but the theme here is dryness. The tacos were dry. The burrito was dry. The rice was dry. The beans were dry. And everything would have been good, if a bit dry, if there had been some discernible flavor. But bland is the best way I can describe all of the food. A little salt goes a long way, but no salt is a dead end. The second star in the review comes from the customer service. The employees are on point, orders are made fast, and they make sure you have all the salsa, limes, and utensils you need before you leave. If you're looking for tacos in Renton, keep looking. read more

Ah sad to be giving two stars, but Tortas Locas was unfortunately pretty underwhelming :/ My fiance and I stopped in around 8:30pm on a Saturday evening to grab a quick dinner to go, and was surprised to see it pretty busy inside! Food took a while, but I think it's because I thought it'd be more fast food style, which it's not. We decided to try a torta, quesadilla (which btw, does NOT include cheese? 50cents to add cheese, even though I've always thought a quesadilla was cheese + tortilla) and churros. We got the Cubana torta, and though it's a big sandwich stuffed with meat, it was $11 and lacked taste/flavor. Sad. As for the quesadilla, we got the mushroom and onion one, $5ish, and it was decently sized as well, but bland. Despite being starved, I didn't even enjoy my meal.. $22ish for everything, so not bad, but just not worth it when the food doesn't have flavor. Oh, churros were probably the highlight! Shared them with some friends and we all enjoyed them. Fresh and hot, filled with dulce de leche? pretty good, especially in comparison to our meal. Tortas Locas means "crazy sandwiches" in Spanish and is located in a former 7-Eleven. I stopped here for a quick bite because I still remember my first torta, which was from a food cart near the Los Arcos hotel in Puerto Vallarta - and it was delicious. The ambience in Tortas Locas is "Aleluya". "Aleluya" is a term that Catholic Mexicans use to describe a Mexican whose religion is non-Catholic, and most likely is Christian Evangelical. On one wall in Tortas Locas are the Ten Commandments painted over a depiction of stone tablets. And on the far wall is more Scripture. The music is not cumbia nor banda nor ranchera nor even norteña. Instead, it's the Mexican equivalent of Spirit 105.3. My preference would have been that the owners left their religion at home. The menu is deep. In addition to the tortas, there is a whole array of tacos, quesadillas, tamales, sopes and gorditos, and even chicharron. Beverage selection is strong - at least three fresh-brewed drinks, including jamaica and horchata are available - as well as your typical bottled drinks. Plenty of different types of salsa in squirt bottles too. The restaurant is immaculately clean. My JP would like Tortas Locas because on each and every table is a shaker filled with dried oregano. Your order at the counter and then they call your number when the order is ready. To get a broader perspective of their sandwiches, I ordered two, knowing full well that I wouldn't be able to eat both, and that there were gonna be leftovers. I picked the Torta Salchicha (Hot Dog Torta) and the Carne Asada (Beef) Torta. I loved the toasted bread. The Torta Salchicha was made with a sliced frankfurter, chorizo, white cheese, tomato, onion and avocado. The Carne Asada Torta was made with a very nice cut of beef and like the other sandwich, came with avocado, tomato and onion. Both sandwiches had mayo. But here's the deal, both sandwiches had a layer of refried beans smeared inside the bun. Honestly, the refried beans do not work at all. They make the sandwiches mushy and give them a blah flavor. So my four stars are for the broad selection of dishes and beverages, and also for the tortas...just as long as they are served without refried beans - because other than the refried beans - they were good (and hearty!). read more

Quizno's & Subway Have Nothing To Worry About My girlfriend & I stopped in here for a mid-week lunch the other day, curious to see what replaced the "Ribbins Bar B Q" that previously occupied this location and garnered my award for worst BBQ EVAR before shutting down. The window painting left of the doorway advertised "BIG MEXICAN SANDWICHES" (see photo) and bore a suspicious resemblance to Burger King's logo from the 70's. Meanwhile, the sign above the entrance beckoned to "COME AND TRY SOMETHING DIFFERENT". With high expectations we ordered the #1 Loca Torta & #3 Cubana Torta, and split a plate of rice & beans. True to their advertising the sandwiches were big and definitely something different than what you normally encounter at a Mexican place. However, their most distinguishing characteristic was their greasiness & relative lack of flavor. Surprising considering how many things they stuffed between those two massive slabs of bread. If you're into sandwiches & looking for an alternative to Subway, this is probably worth a try. My curiosity's been satisfied though, so I'm probably not going back. read more

For a quick and unique sandwich it was definitely worth the try. I had the Cubana Torta and it had EVERYTHING and was HUGE! The bread was very fresh and had a nice crispy crust.
