Renton for their all-you-can-eat weekend lunch, and it did not disappoint! The buffet runs from 9 AM-2 PM on weekends, and everything we tried was fresh, flavorful, and constantly being replenished. There was a great selection of food, but the pozole was definitely a standout--absolutely amazing. The tamales were also really good and surprisingly moist, which can be hit or miss at buffets. They also have all-you-can-eat birria, which was a huge plus. I loved that they provide corn tortillas for the tacos, too. The service was another highlight. Everyone was friendly, attentive, and incredibly quick, which made the whole experience even better. Very cute mexican decor as well. Overall, this is a fantastic spot if you're looking for a filling and authentic Mexican lunch with plenty of variety. The food stays fresh, the selection is great, and the value is hard to beat. My fiance and I were the only two people in here and now I know why. We were immediately seated but the waitress never asked what we wanted to drink. She brings us the chips and salsa and left for a while. Then came back to took our order still didn't ask for a drink but we finally got water. We ordered queso and it came out quick. The queso tasted like it was sitting in the fridge for a long time then warmed up in the microwave. I ordered 2 tacos which were okay for just regular carnita tacos. My fiance had ordered the supreme burrito. Normally burritos are freshly made to order so we thought it would take some time for our food to be made. However, the food came 4 minutes later, quickest made burrito. The burrito was chewy and it was cold in the middle. It was also a pre made microwaved burrito. He couldn't finish it because it didn't want to get sick. The waitress only came twice to take the order and for payment. Came here with a friend during the week after our first dining choice was closed. It was a whim we followed through on and initially my friend was uncertain when we entered because there was only one person sitting there, no one else in sight, and the space was dimly lit. But just as I was convincing her to give it a moment the staff came out from the back with orders, saw us, and we were quickly seated by the window. The space has been converted and feels that way, like the fingerprints of the previous tenant has not been erased. The menu is extensive with all the typical dishes we see in Mexican restaurants with very reasonable costs. They offer a few alcoholic drinks including margaritas, which I found to be splendid and perfectly balanced. The food also was tasty. I ate the enchiladas especial which seemed like fairly typical enchiladas and I mean that in the best of ways. The service also was great. Our waitress checked in on us often, was super polite and friendly, and was prompt with our bill. All in all a wonderful lunch! read more

First time here and came in on Sunday. The place was full due to the weekend buffet. The wife ordered cafe de olla that was watered down, no flavor. I ordered a mimosa that was mostly OJ. I didn't take a picture. I had machaca, the flavor was ok but the food wasn't hot. Wife had huevos rancheros which she said they were ok. The service was bad. I had to get up to get my tortillas from the buffet isle. Waitress never came back to check on us after bringing our food. I had to get up to ask for my tab and pay at the counter. There is no lack of Mexican cuisine in Renton. It's just an opportunity to try them ALL! One is Jaguar Mexican Restaurant, located right off of Williams Avenue next to the US Post Office in Downtown Renton. A teeny-tiny bit off the beaten path, but it makes a nice presence nonetheless. It was a Saturday, so there is a small front of the house staff of two, and wonderful crew in the back making your meal. It is pretty much a full menu, but Jaguar is more designed for your casual sit-down experience. Which was just fine with me. Meals also came with complimentary chips and salsa, and your meal came in with ready made sauces for your individual order as well. For me it was Chicken Enchiladas with Mole sauce that comes with of rice and beans! They do have caldos, and tacos of course, but don't miss out on their other classic Mexican offerings as well. This place is pretty legit. Authentic feel, nice helpful staff. Their molcajete is huge! I've never seen one with mini quesadillas inside before. Decent price for it too. Also tried their oreo milkshake for dessert which was really good. Will come back here in the future. I've been by this place a few times, but have never tried it. A friend really likes it, so today I decided to get lunch there. I went during the lunch hour and placed an order to go, which was a Chimichanga plate. The restaurant is charming and clean - nice atmosphere. The first thing I noticed was that the person taking my order (who was very nice), was also in the back cooking, so I am guessing they were short staffed. My to-go order took 30 minutes and the restaurant was not crowded. I eat Mexican food often, so maybe I'm a tough critic. The chimichanga was overcooked, a little rubbery and the meat was dry - I wondered if it had been heated up in a microwave. The rice was a bit hard so I'm not sure how fresh it actually was. The beans were fine, although not very warm. All in all, I finished the beans but did not eat the rest of my order. I might try them again - maybe it was an off day, but I'm on the fence. read more

I go here for takeout regularly. I have watched the woman that owns it (I don't know her name) bust her ass to build this place into a spectacular restaurant with minimal staff over the past several years. I once saw her carry a tray of food, answer the phone, and hand someone a pen all in one smooth movement. This lady is a one woman show! Her ability to stay cool when the place is SLAMMED is admirable. She never looks stressed. There is also a dude that often works the counter who is always super friendly no matter how busy it is. Jaguar has now hired a bit more staff and they are all nice. The décor is super cool and fun as well. The entire space is welcoming. I have never seen the Chef or cooks, but I cannot write this review without specifically mentioning them. The food coming out of the kitchen is consistently good and keeps me coming back. Thank you to the staff in the kitchen. You are appreciated and recognized. Some menu highlights in no particular order of preference: Chilaquiles, Breakfast Burrito, Huevos Con Chorizo, Huevos Rancheros, or Machaca Eggs are all great for breakfast. The chorizo is REAL good! The Carne Asada Eggs Benedict actually made me a better person. For me, that might be the best thing on the menu and the potatoes that come with it are seasoned with some kind of Mexican magic. The carnitas within any vessel are spectacular! (Maybe even better than El Kiosko's, which is no small task.) Burritos are often a go to and I get the Taquitos for game day. There are other things I like, but I don't want to list the entire menu... Jaguar is a gem in downtown Renton. I've been coming here for years and will continue to do so. My lady and I love the molcajete at Jaguar. It has all of our favorites and is plenty for us to share for date night. The restaurant is generally not overcrowded, always has enjoyable music playing, and staff are friendly and consistent with their service. I'm never in the renton area and when I am, I normally don't gravitate to Mexican food but we were in the area and hungry after a long day of fishing and I'm glad we stopped by to check it out again. We ordered quesabirria tacos, a carne asada burrito, a kids quesadillas meal for my nephew and horchata. The quesabirria tacos was hands down the best Birria I've tasted. The tortilla was crispy, meat was tender, good amount of cheese, each bite was so good I could order more. It came with 4 quesabirrias with consume. Price was very reasonable for the amount of tacos you get. I didn't get to try the burrito but my husband liked it. I wasn't a fan of the horchata, it had a lot of cinnamon, every sip I took cinnamon powder was coming up, not sure if they mixed it all the way or i got the bottom of it but we will definitely be returning, food was so good! This restaurant serves really delicious quesabirria tacos!! If I was rating them just on this item alone, it would definitely warrant five star consideration. I also ordered asada fries and empanadas (which were recommended by the restaurant employee). The asada fries were tasty, but the disappoinment for me is that it's rare that you run out of fries to pair with the asada and all the other toppings. For $15, they could really provide a bit more fries. This also led to a secondary critique. The carne asada was pretty salty when eaten by itself. I was excited to try the empanadas since it was recommended and the lady said they were really good. I ordered 2 beef and 2 chicken and expected a flavor explosion of tender meat and cheese in a deep fried crust. To my disappointment, it was dry and lacked flavor...I was expecting shredded beef and shredded chicken, but they use ground beef and ground chicken. The pineapple agua fresca was refreshing with bits of fresh pineapple - highly recommend trying it. The horchata was good but had a powdery texture. Overall, the restaurant seems clean and has a very nice Mexican vibe. It seems like the restaurant turns into a karaoke bar late night. I wish they'd provide some chips with each order like most other Mexican restaurants. As others have mentioned if you're looking for great food value, this is probably not the place for you. Quaint diner feel with lots of televisions along the walls. Clean but could maybe use a refresher. Especially considering the newer places around this area. They have an excellent food hygiene rating which I always appreciate. Unfortunately, all the food was pretty dry, bland and overcooked. I was able to make it work with lots of salsa but everyone at our table was in agreement on this. Service was very friendly and but remember not to wait for the check and pay at the counter. Authentic Mexican food! Our family comes here at least once a month when we make the trek down to Renton for my kids haircut. We always get their carne asada burrito, carne asada tacos, and their delicious birria tacos. The staff are so friendly, establishment is clean and spacious, and it helped our young kids love raw onions and cilantro! My 8 year old says his favorite food is now the carne asada taco and can eat 3 on his own. They recently corralled the soda section so you can't get free refills though. And if I'm feeling extra special, I get the California burrito (which has fries inside, yum!) Their service is fast and prices are reasonable. We placed a to-go order for tonight's dinner (it's Mother's Day and I really wanted tacos), and the experience was really disappointing. My husband called in at about 11:30 this morning and specified that we would pick up our order at 5:30. When I arrived to pick up the food a few minutes after 5:30, they were not at all prepared for me. I had to recount the order before they remembered that we'd called in, then I had to wait another 10-15 minutes. Generally I'm understanding about there being a wait, but we had legitimately given them a 6-hour notice on the order. When I got home, I discovered that the veggie tacos I had ordered were NOTHING like what had been advised on the website. Their site promised a wide mix of sautéed vegetables (see screenshot); what I got was some pics, lettuce, and a slice of avocado with sour cream (see photo). I'm vegan (so sour cream is a no-go) and don't like avocado, so I couldn't eat it and I ended up having to place an order from somewhere else. My kids were really hungry, so they ended up eating before my new order was ready--all in all, the complete opposite of the Mother's Day family dinner I was hoping for. Besides what you would expect for a Mexican restaurant in terms of chips and salsa, they provided us 3 more various salsa options at no extra cost and without any prompting, either!
