When visiting Canyon Lake, we wanted to stop by Tortilla Flat for a bite to eat. For decades, my family has stopped here periodically and always love how scenic this area is. The interior is what you'd expect from a saloon and well-maintained. What We Ordered: - Sonoran Arizona Brewed 'Ol Fashioned Keg Root Beer ($6.29): My boyfriend ordered, and we all remarked at the size of it! He's a root beer fan, so I told him he had to try it here as they are known for it. He throughly enjoyed and said he'd order again. - Dr. Pepper: A classic with a burger and extra delicious on a hot August day! - The Classic Burger: My dad's usual and said it was delicious. - Chili Burger: My boyfriend and I split and we both wished we just ordered a bowl of chili. This was messy and the burger was lackluster. It was decent overall, but wasn't a standout dish. The service was exceptional this last visit and appreciated the dialogue with our waitress while we waited for our food. Definitely had a few laughs, and that's what really makes this place. Was my food remarkable? No. Was the service great? Absolutely! Sometimes the service makes an establishment a 5-Star and this saloon does just that! Tortilla Flat Salon absolutely exceeded our expectations. We stopped in on a very busy Saturday and, despite seeing an overall 3.7 rating online (which honestly doesn't reflect our experience at all), we were seriously impressed. There were three of us in our party, and we were seated inside. The wait was 10 minutes. They have seating outside to wait. Metzy took care of us from start to finish and her service was completely on point, friendly, and fast without ever feeling rushed. We ordered drinks, their famous chili, and burgers, and everything came out incredibly fast considering how packed the place was. The food was awesome. The chili was flavorful and hearty, a must try, the burgers were cooked perfectly and loaded with taste, and the beers were ice cold, exactly what you want on a busy weekend outing. For a spot that's this popular on a Saturday, the combination of quick service and great food really stood out. Given the rating we'd seen beforehand, we were pleasantly surprised; maybe it was our lucky day, but based on this visit, Tortilla Flat Salon deserves a much higher score. Went with residence in my neighborhood and also residence from Lost Dutchman reserve Park on a lunch outing here. It was a beautiful day and the restaurant was jampacked so yes, it was busy ambience and hopping. We got seated and ordered our drinks and decided on what to have. I decided to go with the Mucho macho nachos with Carne Asada. Little did I know that the jalapeños that come on them were not pickled or D seated so one bite and my mouth was instantly on fire. Tip for you if you order these if you don't like hot spicy stuff do not order the jalapeños on Them. Just a lesson I learned. Also I was not crazy about the cheese sauce that was on those nachos. I have had better but otherwise the nachos were really tasty and I took the second half of them home because all I could eat was the first half of them that's how big and filling they are. Other others that we were with ordered hamburgers and quesadillas and even the tacos which also looked really good. They do have a great selection of food here. The restaurant is really nice and it's totally covered in money. The walls have dollar bills as far as the eye can see all throughout the place. It truly is a good place to eat and tortilla. Flat itself is a lot of fun as there is a gift shop in a museum as well as the restaurant. I do wish Donnie Grubb band would've been playing when we were there just for the entertainment value, but I will go up there eventually when he is playing because he is a great band to see and the place fills up when he is there. But if you are looking for something fun to do tortilla flat is your place to be they do have a gelato and ice cream counter in their little store. You can get candy and all sorts of fun goodies in there or just go over to the gift shop if you want more souvenir type things. read more

Tortilla Flats was a cute and quaint stop past Canyon Lake. Great views although if you have a weak stomach like me, all the switchbacks around the lake and mountains definitely affected my stomach. I must have gone at a slow time mid afternoon Sunday because there wasn't much going on and the patio at the saloon was closed but I'm sure it's a booming place when it's busier and they have music. There were several cute places to see from the restaurant to the gift shop and ice cream parlor. The museum was mostly framed pictures and readings in a small building. The sculptures in art outside and on the walls were fun. The mint chocolate chip ice cream was good although staff were a bit curt. I didn't end up eating at the saloon. The hostess was a sweetheart though. Prices were high and diversity of menu options somewhat limited. I sat on the saddle bar stools for a few minutes and they were really fun and comfortable! It was a wild before I was greeted, probably over 7 minutes , but I didn't mind since I was just waiting to ask for a water, but ideally a passing hello would hand been nice. I can't get over how good the carne asada fries were that my husband ordered. Def wish we ordered two orders versus my order (the Dutchman bbq burger) it had nothing on those carne fries. If we were to go back to canyon lake again I def will order those again with no question. This place is an absolute hoot. Eclectic doesn't even begin to cover the decor, and the location feels like you've reached the end of the road--because you basically have, right before it turns into dirt and heads up the mountain. It's attached to an outdoor bar, eatery, and a handful of quirky shops catering to tourists passing through, which just adds to the experience. The food was excellent and the service was cheerful and welcoming. We had the spicy bowl of chili (hot in the best way) and the steak fajita salad served in a giant edible shell--fun and delicious. I've been here several times of times over the last 30 years, but the last two visits convinced me I don't need to come for the food or to use the dirty bathroom ever again. For those that have never come, it's worth the trip once -- mostly for the drive. When you get here, expect expensive, questionable quality food. Service is delivered from rushed people that seem a bit annoyed. For those that love large portions, you will not be disappointed. However, the food doesn't always match the menu description. i.e. "Mixed Greens" equals chunked iceberg lettuce (including cores). I noticed the restaurant "opted out" of the Health Grade reporting -- which you can access through Yelp!. Only one reason in my mind to opt-out, maybe it's the same thought you have too. read more

Came here on a day trip with my wife and the food was great! We went on a Friday and it was pretty busy! Had to wait about 15 minutes to get a seat, which wasn't too bad. Interesting ride to get here but worth it. It's very touristy but in a good way. From Mesa there's 2 single lane bridges you have to cross to get here and about 500 turns. I came on my motorcycle along with about 30 other riders. The food was good (I had the chili w/cornbread) and the service was quick and responsive. It was relatively busy because it was a Sunday, so it's surprising that they were able to have that kind of service. My only problem: Pepsi products. If you've read any of my other reviews, you'd know I'd rather drink my own spit. But overall it was a really cool place to stop and catch your breath on a long motorcycle ride. read more

Our food was phenomenal, our server awesome and the I've on there is one of the coolest I've seen. The drive there alone is beautiful. Prices are fair for the amount of food you get. After an amazing night and time hiking lower fish creek canyon we stopped for a bite at the iconic stop for a brew and burger. Despite a 45 minute wait patio seating is first come first served with a to go order. I came to Tortilla Flat about 10 years ago and had a great time back then, so I made the trip again expecting something similar. Big mistake. This time was one of the worst dining experiences I've had. Our server acted like we weren't wanted there, rushed us from the start, dropped the check the second the food hit the table, and then hovered over me at payment to make sure she got tipped. Not once did she come by after taking our order. The food? Mediocre at best. Definitely not worth the hype or the hour drive. And $10 for two kids' apple juices is laughable. This resturant is on the winding drive in Superstition Mountain. It's a small strip of stores and this resturant. It has a very cowboy, rustic theme with dollar bills covering every surface. The staff is pretty friendly and the menu is decent but not many options for veg or vegan eaters. My friends and I got a few apps to go. Big portions and very tasty. A big downfall is the prices. Salads we over $16 without protein and meals were beyond that. They had a good beer menu but only a few cocktails that they can make. An interesting experience for sure. read more

Drive to here is sick, see the lake, nice lookout, dad in law & his brother brought out their sports cars for it. Bit of a drive to this tiny street (off road /camping afterwards) but is a super sick wild west town lookin thing. Food is good but the vibes are what really make it what it is. This was a cool saloon. There were bar stools with real saddles on them and dollar bills stapled all over the walls.........some three deep! The bathroom was rather interesting too, painted with saloon ladies on the stall doors. My husband and I split an order of carne asada tacos. They were okay, but definitely not worth the price. We also got an order of deep fried pickles that were supposed to be spears, but they served us coins. They were pretty bad. Evidently they had supply issues and did not have the spears as were listed on the menu. I wish we had been told that when we placed our order, it would have saved us from sending them back. I wish we had got some loaded fries like our friends ordered, they were amazing looking. If we are ever in the area again, that's what we will be getting.
