As real as it gets - in Bend at least. The family that runs this place are super nice and the food - you will not find better authentic Mexican in Bend for less. We 4 of us had lunch there and we walked out paying under $20 combined. But it's more about the food than the price. Good authentic Mexican food at a fair price. I usually get the lengua tacos and birria tacos sometimes I'll get a chile relleno . Sometimes there can be a language barrier when ordering. If you want chips and salsa better order them cause you won't be brought them when you sit down. Never got to eat here. Walked in and stood by the register and no one would acknowledge me. An employee said excuse me so he could walk by me and a little girl sweeping the floor said "mom someone's waiting". A woman looked at me from the kitchen, said nothing and went back to work. This is the first authentic regular-Jose Mexican restaurant I've found in Bend so far. They have a Mexican grocery here as well as a small eatery. The food is reasonably priced and they have soups, including menudo on weekends. The Menudo was $7.99 - not a real large portion. The stomach meat pieces were the largest I've seen anywhere - many of them took at least three bites to eat. Not saying that is good or bad, just unusual. I thought the menudo was a bit bland, but they included a big dish of onions, cilantro, and rather bland diced chile pepper (but not oregano or dried chiles). The tamales came in sweet corn, pork or chicken. The sweet corn tamale is, of course, sweet - a dessert tamale. None of them were very large, but then again they only cost $1.50 each. They have a good assortment of food on their menu - several shrimp dishes, tacos, tortas, chile relleno, etc. I'm glad to have found a real Mexican place in Bend, and I'd eat here again. But if I were heading north, I'd be more likely to eat at the Great Taco Shop in Redmond - just suits my tastes better. read more

This place gets good reviews but his staffed by people who don't give a damn.Now that I'm here again I remember walking out the last time after I was ignored. A painful memory as I stand here at the counter waiting for the two ladies chatting in the back to come out and welcoming. No it's not 1 o'clock in the afternoon or 5 o'clock in the afternoon it's 1015 in the morning and they're open but nobody comes out to say hello, even though you can save them chatting 10 feet away and they are looking at you. Extremely disappointed in the tamales I bought for Christmas Eve. I usually make my own but didn't have time this year. I ordered 2 dozen pork tamales and they were horrible...dry, no Chile and hardly any meat and they charged $24 per dozen!! A good, authentic (muy authentico!) mexican joint in a strip mall just down the hill from Mt. Bachelor. The business also features a bakery in the back. Ijole! I have died and gone to heaven! I've eaten here on two occasions, and i've really enjoyed what I've eaten (assorted tacos, birria sopes, jamaica, & tamarindo), and I can't wait to head back and check out more of their offerings. I have been searching for an authentic and delicious Mexican place in Bend and I found it! The adobada burrito was delicious and so was the Tamale. The prices were fantastic for Bend. I will defiantly be back to try many more things. The green sauce was really good and the tortillas are amazing! The staff was friendly. I really want to go back soon and try the tacos and chile relleno. The soccer on the TVs was a little loud but reminded me of so many great Mexican places I have visited in the past that I didn't mind. Both of my kids got food poisoning after eating Lengua from here. Very disappointed seeing as how this was one of my favorite places. My youngest ended up sick just hours after eating it, and older one was sick within 48 hours after eating it. They were the only ones that ate the Lengua and the only ones that got sick. Probably the most authentic Mexican food in Bend. I had been there before a couple of times for lunchtime burritos about a year ago (wonderful). I went there with my wife tonight for a sit down dinner. The food was excellent. I had a beef barbacoa street taco and chicken enchilada combo (which I had to ask for them to come up with as the chalkboard menu isn't very well organized). My wife had a beef barbacoa taco salad. Both were wonderful and were served with fresh limes and crumbled Mexican cheese. So the food is great. We left stuffed with three beers in our bellies for $30 which included the tip. The food itself is a 5 star....really really good. Food is the most important, in my opinion. The rest could use some improvement. The service was sincere and accommodating but not to the level that you normally see in a family run restaurant. The decor and the layout is funky. Two TVs with Spanish language programming are on and a bit on the loud side. There is a small Mexican grocery store / bakery to the rear, and the combination of the two makes for a pretty hectic and seemingly disorganized setup. That said, the atmosphere is pretty authentic for what it is. If you demand updated decor and a layout set up for a quiet romantic dining experience, then this is not your place. Had moderate expectations given write ups here tempered by the fact this is Central Oregon; I was still very disappointed. Counter lady was unfriendly, meat was very dry and tough, over cooked and lacked flavor. Tacos were dry overcooked meat chunks on a tortilla and a little cup of sauce on the side. To be clear: they were 4 chunks of meat on a tortilla, no cilantro, onions or anything else. Carne Asada was a super thin, dry, very tough flavorless chewy steak, some lettuce and tomatoes with rice and beans for $12. Torta bread was typical but the meat had the same issues. At least they had decent tortillas. Who knows, maybe I caught them on an off day but what I had was pretty bad and I definitely wouldn't go back. read more

Best tacos in Bend hands down! Love all the food that comes out of the kitchen, plus they have a mini market in the back that has all the ingredients needed for authentic mexican cooking. Pretty authentic little Mexican joint. Food tastes pretty delicious when you're in the mood for some sodium-rich Mexi-food. The prices are just right and the staff has always been very friendly. The atmosphere is certainly nothing to write home over, but I do realize it's part-restaurant/part-market. Perhaps the most "authentic" Mexican food in Bend. While I've never lived in Mexico, all their offerings compare favorably to the better places around San Jose, CA. And their homemade take-home offerings are first rate. While you aren't going to head here for a pitcher of margaritas and the ambiance that leaves you lingering over the possibility of another pitcher, you definitely come here for the food when authentic Mexican (and not the Chili's and Chevy's fare you find elsewhere,) is what you crave. read more
