Hello this place is interesting and authentic. YELP Short Answer: Maybe, not for everyone but they are all working hard and I am sure they will be a success as time rolls on. Location: Not the best but that is kind of the allure for some. Menu: I have no idea... they need to make it a bit easier. Food Prep: None.. Food Quality: Tortillas are handmade and excellent. We have ordered out a few times and eaten in once which was less then great. Staff: More of a market, or authentic Mexican market and food shoppe, so nothing fancy and a bit confusing for some of us. Overall Value: Very high if you order correctly but if you order wrong it can be a bit pricy, like crazy expensive. TIP: it really helps if you speak Spanish and know the flow. This type of shoppe is not unique in all cities in the SouthWest, but not so much in Bend. BUY THE HANDMADE TORTILLAS, lots of them. Order beans and rice and chicken, pork, or carne asada and enjoy some fun at home. Just add your own lettuce, cheese, and sour cream and a few cold cerveza. read more

Bend doesn't lack for good Mexican food and Tortilleria Reyes is part of that. As the name implies, they make tortillas here - I assume based on the stacks in the back store area where you'll also find a few grocery shelves stocked with canned goods, condiments and other kitchen staples, including refrigerated. But it's also a taqueria, offering tacos, enchiladas, dorados, burritos, tamales and other Mexican foods including plates such as carne asada (azada). Prices are reasonable; you'll pay quite a bit more for a plate, though. - I ordered the three tacos dorados ($6) with pollo and barbacoa. Simple fried tortillas wrapped around your choice of meat, they're pretty tasty. I was hoping for the birria option I saw in another Yelper's menu photo from years ago but alas, not offered. Not sure I'd go for the enchiladas based on Camille H's recent review but maybe that was an off occurrence. Hopefully so. Reyes is a bit run down and frankly seems on the verge of closing. When I walked in, shortly after 11 on a weekday, I actually wondered whether they were still in business. The three drink fountain machines were clearly running at the counter but no employees in sight. After a while, the sole person showed up, took my order, then disappeared into the kitchen. Inside tables were clean but the mismatched tables outside decidedly were not. No condiments on the tables (or anywhere that I could see) and no salsa station (one of the things I absolutely love about taquerias is their - up 'til now - ubiquitous salsa stations). In the back grocery area, a darkened meat & cheese counter appears half abandoned. I hope this is just the way Reyes operates and not a sign of impending financial doom. Given their location, I would imagine they get a bit of lunch business from the various shops in the area. That business was not in evidence when I was there however. All in all, OK. The food is good; the ambiance is maybe not what a lot of folks might be looking for. I'd definitely come back but then, I'm a big fan of taquerias. read more

Was just there today, first time under new ownership and now known as Chupacabra. Amazing! The Barbados tacos were so good I ordered an extra! My wife had a chicken tostada which was perfection. All others in our group of eight loved their meals, as well. Our new favorite taco joint in Bend. read more

Menudo was bowl of 4 huge bones no tripe no corn just 4 bones and a little broth. Manager told me this is real menudo and I didn't know what I was talking about. I went a little crazy on my first trip and ordered 4 tacos. 3 would have been fine, especially since they are not skimpy on the meat. I went here today looking for a Mexican Market where I could buy supplies for home. What I found was a restaurant that sells a few supplies like dried chilies and spices. It is, like most family run places, a no nonsense place that can be a little off putting if you are not used to that style of service. I bought fresh corn Tortillas (good), Carnitas (good), Barbacoa (too much cinnamon for me, overpowering), a side of refried beans (bland), side of rice (good), red Salsa (spicy but needed salt and acid). I am not trying to beat them up, they are NOT a grocery store, they are a restaurant. I will go back and try more of their dishes to get a larger picture of what they serve. I am used to large Mexican markets from Southern California so that is what I was on the look out for with produce, meats, dry goods, household supplies. I know this is not SoCal. I am just looking for a nice well stocked Mexican market to shop at. If anyone has a good suggestion please leave it in the comments. Cheers read more

Wonderful people own and work at this restaurant/grocery store. Semi-eclectic mix of groceries, fairly decent food menu. We tried the tacos, carnitas and adobada and the cheese enchilada combination. The tacos were amazing! $2.00 per taco. They did not skimp on the fillings. The enchiladas for $12 were a disappointment. I placed my order and picked them up about 5 minutes later. They were dry and the cheese was not melted, the entry was cold. Served with rice, no beans. That was my fault about no beans, I didn't read the fine print. I ordered some chips (that were delish) with the hopes of dipping them in the beans - out of luck on that one. Nice people, family owned and operated. I really enjoyed the food here. Tasted authentic, tortillas were so good and my fish was cooked just right. We also ate churros with cream in the center, wow!! Delicious!! And they cook their chicken, outside on a grill. You order at the counter then they bring the food. They are super friendly and very very nice. I totally recommend this place. read more

Cinco de Mayo is coming. Even more important in my husband's view, so is the Kentucky Derby. In addition to Mint Juleps to toast the feature race, we always have Mexican food after. Maybe that's because we went to the Derby when we were young and broke and the only place we could afford to eat was a good little Mexican cantina. A tradition was born. As aside, if good Mexican food in Louisville seems puzzling,consider the people who do the hard work of exercising the horses and maintaining the stables often have Mexican heritage. Planning the menu for our Derby celebration, today we were off to Tortilleria Reyes. Purchases started with their incredible corn tortillas. Made fresh daily, and they freeze beautifully, a roughly 6" tall stack of tortillas, about four dozen, was under $3.00! And we knew we could also find some other needed items there, like Mexican chocolate and big bags of limber dried pasillas. (Not an oxymoron, fresh dried chiles should be pliable.) Although late afternoon, the kitchen (and bakery) aroma was so enticing, we oordered some adobada tacos. The daily special, they were only $1.25 each. Delectable and served with a little bit of fiery hot salsa and a lime wedge to help balance the flavors. How these good people manage to produce such delicious things for such a low price to their customers is a mystery. I am also grateful that they never make my failure to to speak Spanish a stumbling block for me to br able to shop in their store. For all of this, I say gracias to the people at Tortilleria Reyes. THIS N THAT: 1) A little hard to find, it is in a strip mall storefront on Division, not far from Goody's chocolate workshop. 2) Fully accessible from parking in and throughout. 3) Tortilleria Reyes appears twice on Yelp. I would say check your receipt before leaving because we were charged twice the price for our tortilla order. The total was about $40 and we were charged $80. We went here with a couple friends on a recommendation from another friend and I was really excited to give their tacos a try. between the group we a few different variations of tacos (with the exception of carne asada as they were out) 2 different burritos and a chimichanga so we had a decent overall picture variety. The place is falling a part and wasn't very clean in the dining area. The person taking our order at the counter was definitely not rude but also not friendly and it seemed almost like we were interrupting her. It kind of reminded my of a restaurant in parts of Mexico that seem questionable from the looks but the food absolutely blows your mind. Unfortunately, this wasn't the case with any of their food. Nobody in the party was happy with their food and my tacos were't good at all. We so wanted to find our new "taco spot" and hoped this would be it. This place does remind me a bit of the taco shops of San Diego, but it also includes a Mexican market in the back. While the menu is not extensive, the food is excellent (especially the Enchiladas Barbacoa). Staff is friendly and helpful. This is one of my two favorite Mexican places in Bend. read more

So if you want authentic Mexican food, this is the place. Reminds me of the taco shops in LA or San Jose. Fresh made tortillas and good variety of meats to choose from. They also have Mexican beer available Modelo, Pacifico, and Corona. There is a little market in the back that sells meats, spices and pastries. So far I have tried the chicken, shredded white breast meat. I hear they are well known for the pork. Can't wait to go back and try some more. Update, just had the adobado marinated pork burrito. The reviews on here are going to be mixed as this location not only serves ready to eat food, but also serves as a market. I am reviewing the restaurant portion. This place has the most delicious Mexican food in town only rivaled by El Burrito - in which it all comes down to slight personal preferences. The food at Reyes is quickly prepared, the service is awesome (with the very rare occasion that they have a more unfriendly lady at the counter than the usual extremely polite one) and you WILL be full after their asada burrito! You can buy marinated carne asada which is great! They sell the tastiest rotisserie chickens on the weekends!! The BEST is the CARNITAS!!
