We came here looking for a place to watch the world cup finals, and glad we happened upon this place! They have a large back room with TVs, arcade games, and even a beer pong table. They have a huge selection of good beers on draft, and reasonably priced pitchers. Service wasn't great, maybe they were just understaffed for a busy game day, but we mostly had to walk up to the bar or hunt down our server to place orders. I liked the vibe of this place! It was fairly small, but it was super convenient because it was attached to my hotel--Pendry. I love a brewery or beer hall, so I appreciated how they had an industrial type of ambience. I sat up at the bar and enjoyed an IPA craft beer. Since we were staying the Pendry, we decided to check out Nason's, its connected by a door to the left of the check-in area of the hotel lobby. When you first enter, the decor is so bright & cheerful! Great atmosphere right away, and all throughout the restaurant. They had HH going on, which was a nice treat. There's the main room with the central bar, and then a back/game room that had a photo set-up for Christmas with a big chair and decorations. They also had some gaming machines and plenty of tables and benches. Lots of decor in all of the spaces, which I really liked. There's an outside patio that wraps around and so great for people watching. The service was ok. Two servers were not super friendly, but weren't rude either. Padres season is over so my trips to Nason's will probably be limited if at all until next season as they serve as a bar that's less traveled but still in the mix. I guess you can say that by me saying that, I kind of wish it was a place that I'd go out of my way for. Why? Well, because it once was. I'm truly teetering on 3.5 stars but am rounding up. Why? I'm not sure, because I made three or four trips here during the season and the service at the bar has run a bit cold. I'm not sure if Nason's is still part of the Pendry but if they are I'd expect that level of excellence to continue into even their most humble of concepts, that being Nason's. While I'm not an upscale guy, I can only imagine that people equipped to stay at Pendry ($$$$) would like the balance of casual but elevated. Hell, maybe those people do get that service but I really haven't after the past few trips. The happy is still pretty damn good and the food has not suffered. I really wanted to like this spot. From the outside, it looked wonderful. Tons of games.. darts, cornhole, and a huge space that looked modern and nice. Unfortunately, the food was pretty bad. We ordered the pretzel and the San Diego gold chicken wings. The pretzel was okay but the cheese and the mustard were not tasty. The wings were very greasy and we were not fans of the San Diego gold sauce. We ended up ordering a side of ranch and a side of buffalo to dip everything in, which helped! (Can never go wrong with ranch haha). We were given a chicken wing that was very deformed and gross looking. (Pictured below)... So the size is deceiving when you walk in. There's an entire other seating area with a lot of arcade games if you pass the original bar and go to the right. The vibe here has always been chill at night when I come. I've never seen it crazy but it seems like the place that might get that way because of the really large seating areas designed for big groups. The beer selection is standard for a bar in East village. The tvs are always playing sports so it's a good spot for that if you're into it. There is a full bar with friendly staff. I had two nice dudes mixing up drinks last time I was there. So the front bar is more for friends and drinking in my opinion. And the game room area is more for the fam and kids etc. It's completely separate so you don't have to co mingle with the other. Haven't had the food here but I heard it's good. It was easy to find and the bar had a couple of open tables indoors and outdoors without feeling too empty or crowded which was good as they do not allow reservations. The restaurant & bar had sit-yourself seating where a server would come by with the menu & seasonal drink menu. I know it says beer hall but they do have a full bar to please everyone along with a food menu. Most recently it seems like they have updated the menu a bit from what it was before but reading through it all of the burgers sound really good. I went with a side of Mac n cheese because I wanted something simple and it was definitely cheesy! I was really looking forward to checking out Nason's Beer Hall. As someone who loves visiting local spots that serve good beer when I travel, I had high hopes for this place. You'd think this would mean a more personal, welcoming experience, right? Well, not quite. From the moment I walked in, I felt completely ignored. I tried to interact, but it was clear the bartenders weren't interested. I ordered a beer, hoping things would get better, but instead, I got a front-row seat to them completely ignoring me and turning their backs to me the whole time. I tried to engage, but they seemed more interested in entertaining themselves with some sort of charades game than actually acknowledging a paying customer. There I was, standing alone at the bar, feeling like an inconvenience. As someone who works in a service industry, I know how important it is to make guests feel welcome, especially when no one else is around. I was ready to tip them well, knowing they'd likely be counting on tips from the event crowd. But instead, I felt invisible. No one asked how I was doing, what brought me in, or even offered a simple smile. It was like I wasn't even there. To add insult to injury, they were playing some game with their phones, completely disconnected from the fact that a guest was standing right there. When I asked to take my drink and leave, they seemed relieved and quickly let me go, like I was interrupting their fun. I left feeling unwelcome, unappreciated, and completely disappointed. I'm not writing this off completely--I would consider coming back during the day, hoping for a better experience with different staff. But my first impression of Nason's Beer Hall was just awful. Working in customer service means making people feel welcome, especially during events like this where community involvement should be key. I felt like my dollars didn't matter, and honestly, that's not a feeling anyone should have at a place like this. I love San Diego and frequently visit to check out different spots, but Nason's Beer Hall left a sour taste. FINALLY the same dude I made eye contact with 17 times before he asks me what I need. I say "A blood orange IPA" he says "Oh it's PAST last call. I just wanted to know if you needed to cash out."
