    The Beachum Thin Crust Pizza

Our favorite casual pizza spot! We're always craving it and have to grab it when next door at Good People. We prefer their thin crust pizza. It's not traditional and thicker than most. They LOAD it up with toppings. The order are always ready fairly quickly.

The pizza was absolutely delicious! Deep dish with fresh tomato sauce and vegetables and Italian sausage. The 12" was enough for 2 meals. Ordering and delivery were easy through Uber Eats. Pie was delivered hit in just under an hour. There's a reason the restaurant has earned so many awards!

Some of the best pizza I have eaten! The service was fast and the very good! It's worth it

    Pie!

Nice pie, great service. I'll be eating there again. Reviewed needs at least 85 characters.

Great taste, plenty left over, must try! This was our first experience and definitely coming back.

The deep dish pizza is amazing! We got the carne deep dish and it was so good! Hot fresh and homemade First time having it and new to area and it was amazing. We also got the pickle pizza thin crust. Both were crunchy both tastes were perfect for the pies. Great customer service, I will return. If you are new to Birmingham come to Tortugas!! No questions asked. I can't wait to try my next pie.

Here is the finished product. This pizza looked way better than it tasted

***Sigh*** I really had high hopes for this place because of all the great reviews by patrons including from Yelp Elite members. The first thing that struck me about this pizza was the price of a 12" pizza, deep dish or not, $40.00 is way expensive! After the first slice I knew it was NOT for me. The sauce tasted more like a Provençal sauce more than a pizza sauce which is an issue because of how much moisture the sauce holds which is an issue when you don't want a soggy pizza. That was issue number one. The second issue was that instead of pizza shell being pre-baked and then adding the meat, cheese, etc. this was all just put together and baked in the over. Every slice had to be eaten with a knife and fork because it was so wet and soggy from the NOT PIZZA SAUCE. Now, I am stuck with 3/4 of a pizza that I will not eat. Also instead of them dicing the chicken into chunks it was shredded like pulled pork which made the already soggy pizza even more chewy!! The only reason I settled on this place was because I talked myself out of driving 11 hours to Michigan for my deep dish seafood pizza from Pizza Papalis! This was NOT THAT! Just for scale the Deep dish seafood pizza is $45.00 for a Large and the crust literally melts in your mouth and Isn't doughy. Sorry guys, I would not recommend this pizza shop.

We came here for dinner since we had an event nearby. We ordered the Hawaiian pizza. The pizza is thin crust and cut into squares. I thought it was really good pizza. I ate a lot. Lol. Sodas came in huge cups. Way more than I could drink. You can also get beer and wine. The service was really good and the wait was short. I would definitely eat here again.

The pizza was amazing. Felt like a true Chicago deep dish. Service was good and had a Chicago vibe sports bar feel.

I love Tortugas! My pizza was DELICIOUS! It takes about 45 minutes for the pizza to cook so be prepared for a wait. Trust me..it's worth your time! Now MVP goes to the staff who was extremely attentive and helpful. They provided the best beer recommendations as well. If you want a great pizza and wonderful service..go to Tortugas!

Outstanding pizza!! We got the thin crust pepperoni and it was some of the best pizza we've had and not a bad price for a family of five.

The service was really slow. The pizza was mediocre at best and it was over priced. $26 for two slices and 2 beers.

We walked up the street with a half dozen other diners. Wooden City is definitely not in the best part of BHM. Walking to the restaurant was a little sketchy, no need for a detailed description. Although we had reservations, the hostess looked at us like we had three eyes. She found a small table for us in the far back of the restaurant. No problem, at least we were seated. Our server greeted us quickly and went over the menu. We ordered drinks, blistered Hungarian peppers and a sausage and mushroom pizza. We told him that we were going to a concert and were on a little bit of a tight schedule. By the time our server checked on our food, the second time, we went from a little bit tight to full "gotta get out of here" mode. I guess the delay in getting our food was to give the kitchen time to burn our pizza. Over half of the thick, chewy crust was inedible. The bottom of the pie didn't fare much better. The peppers, on the other hand, were amazing. (not so much so at 2 am but that's just me!) They are a do not miss. We were at least able to settle our bill quickly and made it to the concert with time to spare. Overall, would we go back? Only if in the area - those peppers were amazing. Still, I definitely would not make a special trip.

It's what you might think of as a cheese pizza, the add garlic and fresh basil to the mix and it is a wonderful result. It's a hand tossed pizza with a fairly thin crust. The chew and the flavors are excellent. The staff are friendly, but don't wait on the tables, you order at the counter, they deliver you eat happily. They have TVs playing one soccer or F1 racing feed or another. It' is a European feel for sure. They have picnic tables indoors and a few small chairs outdoors with a bit of shade. Bring your dog for the outdoors maybe? My friends have done so. Capella has a large selection of bottled drinks, gelato and other Italian desserts. But the pizza is the headliner.

I was pleased that the had a large variety of options but even had gelato and desserts as well. Large pizzas run $21-$27 are thin crust. For pizzas, we got two of their Margheritas, Meat Buster and Palermo. They were all good and a hit at the family party. The meat Buster and Palermo had meat but honestly not a whole lot. They were good though. All the pizzas were lots of flavor and the sauce to cheese ratio was perfect. I loved that they had chili oil, extra dipping sauce, cheese, and peppers on the side for you to grab. While our time there we even had some gelato which was good and got some cheese cake to go. Our pizzas came out quick. The shop is very large with plenty of places to sit, even good for a large party. I loved that they even had plates on the table ready to go. This was a solid pizza spot and worth checking out if you prefer thinner crust.

First of all, I just want to say how much I appreciate that they have their own parking lot. It is small and sometimes difficult to get out of, but I'll take any parking I can get in Five Points. It's very close to UAB, which is also convenient for hungry students like me. The food itself is delicious! I would really recommend getting one of their specialty pizzas as opposed to just a plain cheese or pepperoni. My personal favorite is the Great White. It's got an olive oil and garlic base and includes different cheeses like ricotta and sheep's milk feta. I believe there are also tomatoes and onions on it as well. It's such a good combination of different flavors. Overall, I haven't had a bad experience yet at Mellow, and would recommend others check it out.

Wife and I ate there before going to the movie. She ordered spaghetti with meat sauce. Noddles were cooked perfectly. Meat sausage covered the noodles, not like some places that but a ladle in the middle and you end up with more noodles without sauce. I ordered the Salvatore's Special Calzone. Won't be the last time. Crust was crispy, filling were abundant and extremely tasty. My wife mentioned that unlike some calzones this one was not greasy. It was very flavorful. There place is rather small with less than a dozen tables inside, and an outdoor covered patio. Very comfortable, friendly staff, and obviously everything cooked to order. This may well become one of my new favorite places. Looking forward to my next visit, and sorry I've missed the opportunity to eat here over the last 40 years or so.

I was greeted by the front employee, who was wiping down the final tables before service started. I viewed the menu and saw they offered pizza in different sizes and toppings. They also served pasta, including lasagna, chicken alfredo and spaghetti. I learn that the front employee's name was Solomon. He proved excellent customer service to me, answering all of my questions. He even pulled up a special menu on the TV for me to see that changes every day of the week, serving pizza by the slice instead of a whole pie. I ordered the Spaghetti with mushroom meat sauce, which included garlic bread and a side salad. I also ordered 2 pepperoni pizza with a drink. My total was right at $22 dollars for everything. To me, this was a bargain to get so much food as well. The setting of the table featured red and white tablecloths, which made it feel like a real Italian pizzeria. There are about 30-35 tables, with bar stool seating areas for single guest to enjoy the Birmingham view. My food took about 12 minutes to come out, and Solomon bagged everything nice and neatly before I made it to the counter. I went back to the stool seating to enjoy my food. Once he realized I was dining in, he brought over a parmesan cheese shaker for me to use with my food. This was top tier for me! Very observative. The Meal: I can tell you now that the portion sizes are humorous! The pizza is large thin, hand tossed slices that filled the box of a small pizza. The pasta was enough to feed three people, so they give you a well amount for your money. The pizza had to be eaten folded, which I enjoyed a lot. The pizza sauce was full of flavor, didn't seem like anything out of a can. The slices were cheesy, saucy and not overly greasy with a perfect crust. Some of the pizza I've enjoyed in Birmingham. The spaghetti mushroom meat sauce pasta was very meaty and full of mushrooms. The mushrooms could have been sauteed more before adding to the sauce. As the pasta was full of meat, the sauce could have been more. to cover the bottom of the noddle as well. The garlic bread bursted with buttery, garlicy herb flavor and was super airy and fluffy, not like hard toast baked to plinko chips consistency. The salad was super fresh and simple. The cheese was thick, hand shredded mozzarella cheese with fresh romaine lettuce and a slice of tomato. The ranch dressing was not my favorite, but the house vinaigrette was 10/10! I could drink that dressing; it was so good. I was able to wash it all down with various Coca-Cola fountain drinks or fresh brewed tea (Sweet or Unsweet). Coke Zero was an option, which made me happy! Overall, this visit earned a solid 4.5/5 and I would patronize with them again. Customer service as 5/5, thanks to Solomon. The chefs were hard at work the entire time. By the time I left, 75% of the tables were taken and mostly everyone was eating already too. Check them out if you're in the area! -DASC
