Very happy with my recent experience. I got a flat getting off the highway in Corte Madera yesterday. I remembered there was a Toscalito nearby and parked my car in front overnight. Went over first thing - they were able to help me and I got my car back by early afternoon. Not only did they replace my tire but found my other tire was about to go due to a large nail. For the last month, Oscar and Jaimie have promised to repair my truck telling me over recorded phone calls that my insurance company has sent someone to inspect the vehicle. My wife had her car towed over after a blowout during a three day weekend. I received a prompt call the first thing on the holiday morning. Dean gave me the lowdown on a set of tires which I needed which are original equipment. The price was good. The service was excellent no complaints. He did mention that the brake linings were low and that probably needed a brake line flush as well. I believe that was an attempt at providing good service and not overselling. I WILL NEVER GO THERE AGAIN!!! I have been going to Toscalito in Novato for several years, and they were always thorough, yet reasonably priced for their service. I recommended the service to my wife and she was shocked at the final bill, which was twice what they quoted her, as there were many added service charges. I thought it strange, but soon after took my car in for its standard service and oil change. I noticed that none of the people I recognized were working there, and on inquiry found that the company had been bought out by a different company, and the former employees had left. Usually the standard service is between $200 and $300, depending on what needs to be done, and more if something major is found, but always reasonably priced. To my surprise, with no major problems, the bill was over $1500! When I looked at the breakdown, there were outrageous extra service charges and labor charges. They charged me $330 in labor alone to change a fan belt, and another $330 to empty and put in new coolant. They did some kind of additive thing to the gas tank that was also disproportionately expensive. The new company's policy is to wrench as much money out of the customer as possible and make them pay if they use that wrench! As. ususal these days, the "upgrade" is worse and screws you. My shadow will never cross their garage doors again! read more

Don't schedule an oil change here! I booked an appointment for 10am on a Saturday. When I arrived and they said it would take at least THREE HOURS, if not more. For an oil change? What are they doing, drilling the oil straight out of the ground first? Blacksmithing the filter in real time? Wild. If they have an appointment system, they should preplan appropriately so people don't waste their time. read more

Since moving to Marin 9 years ago, I always use Toscalito to change my tires. Unfortunately this time will be the last. On the date 08/20/2021 I went to Toscalito in Corte Madera to replace two tires for my Jeep Cherokee, I spent $ 523.18 for replace two tires and for the alignment. After the replacement I took the highway to go to work. My car was unstable, the computer showed this message: "4WD Overheated Temporarily Unavailable", I checked immediately the tires' pressure and two tires had 43 and 49 instead 33 ( recommended pressure). I had to slow down the speed around 40miles/hour because the car was unstable. Fortunately my work place is only 15 minutes from Toscalito, so when I arrived I immediately sent an email with the two pictures of the car computer screen that showed the alarm and the pressure. Because nobody answered to my email after 3 hours I called the shop, I waited on the line several minutes before they answered. When I explained my problem the guy told me that the unstable problem wasn't their fault and if I wanted to check the pressure I could stop to the shop again in the afternoon. So I left my job earlier than usual and I went there. They figured out that they replaced the wrong tires, they changed them and they charged me other $ 69.76 for the difference of prices between the wrong and right tires. The mistake can happen when people work but how they fix the problem makes the difference between a good and mediocre service. I didn't complain about the mistake I just wanted to drive safe. I was unsafe on the highway I had to go back to the shop and waste one hour of my time and you charged me $ 69.76.........it is around 10% of our business, you loose a customer for this amount. read more

I noticed the guy in front of me asking to check his bill to make sure that he didn't have tire insurance. The manager said he didn't think so, but he would check because sometimes it auto populates. Sure enough there it was, an extra $35 per tire added on his bill without his consent or his knowledge. The customer didn't seem particularly thrilled with this and asked for the insurance to be taken off his bill. I actually assumed there had been some kind of mistake on the guys invoice. When I looked at big tire store computer monitor, it just showed the cost of my tire and installation. So I was sure I didn't have this insurance fee on my tire bill. but just to be on the safe side, I asked him if I had it, he said the same thing he had said to the previous customer, I don't think so but sometimes it auto populates. Next he says oh yes it auto populated, let me take that off for you. If you buy tires here, just make sure you check on whether or not you're being charged for tire insurance. Hopefully in the future there'll be more transparency around this. read more

We were driving north on 101 and our car indicated that we had low tire pressure. We got lucky and saw this business off the side of the road and stop there. The person who helped us came right out checked all four of our tires put some air in the one with the slow leak and didn't charge us a penny. I'm late in providing this review until I cooled down. I was driving through Marin back to the South Bay on a Sunday afternoon at the end of October, 2020 (mid-pandemic) when I noticed bulging in two of my tires, and one of them had a huge gouge on the sidewall. I was so relieved that Toscalito was open and they were able to take me right away. I had Pirelli's on my car and asked them to match two tires as best they could and put them on the front. They came back and told me that all my tires needed to be replaced, but they only had three new Pirelli in that specification in stock (similar but not the same tire). They advised when I got home, I'd want to get the fourth. The price was OK for new tires, a total of $750. I was happy with the service, the care, had a great conversation with two guys in the front watching football. Of course, I was relieved to be back on the road. When I take my car into the Audi dealership that week, they cannot find another tire because the tires I purchased were 7 years old, with an expiration date of 2013! It was illegal for this shop to sell me those tires. And I feel I've been duped. I can only hope they didn't know the tires were expired. read more

This is my third time writing a review for Toscalito, but this shop really is the best car mechanic around and it feels important to continue to let others know about their good work. I've been bringing my cars here for 10+ years (all of my family members do, too) and I currently drive a Ford Escape. My car started shaking when I turned it on and the check engine light came on, so I brought it into Toscalito. This time I worked with George, but I've also had great experiences with Paul and Dean. George diagnosed my problem and even did some research to find out that it was a result of a known issue with this model of Escape and directed me to the dealership, who should cover the repairs for free. He was incredibly kind and supportive, and didn't even charge me for the diagnosis. Toscalito treats their loyal customers so well! This place is the best! read more

For nearly twenty years (whew! time flies!!) I have bringing my car(s) here, to Paul and crew, and have always felt well protected. Before I even bought a car Paul gave it the once over, and shared insight and advise about the car I was considering. If he gives it the green light, I buy. From then on, Paul and his staff have kept our cars running and safe. We love the watchful eye the staff here gives our vehicles so we have a regular maintenance schedule, an outlook to car care that will need to be done "eventually", and what it is that needs to be done right now. WARNING!!! I took my new car there at 12K mile for tire rotation. They upsold me to "lifetime tire rotation". Told me to bring it back in 6 months. I made an apt and brought car in 6 months later. They told me "we don't do lifetime tire rotation". I showed them the receipts that said "lifetime tire rotation". They said "oh that guy doesn't work here anymore". What?!? They then admitted that I paid for it. Then they looked at tires and said they couldn't rotate tires as they were too worn and could only sell me 4 new tires. So I paid $190 for a $60 job. I bought my tires last year at Toscalito in Novato. Yesterday I got a big nail in my right rear tire but didn't want to go all the way back to Novato, so I went to the Corte Madera store. I didn't have a reservation (though you can make them online), and I just dropped by. At first they said they'd repair the tire and call me when it was done (which would have been fine, I had a spare), but then Jose said, "We can do it right now," and they did. I didn't need my receipts because they simply looked up my license plate and immediately had my records--very convenient. They took the tire off the rim and checked the interior and sidewalls to make sure they weren't damaged (if they were they would have replaced the tire for free because I bought the road hazard insurance). They repaired it off the rim, from the inside--the right way (much better than places that plug from the outside so they don't have to take the tire off the rim), and had me back on the road in less than a half hour. So--my experience with tires at Toscalito has been excellent. read more

I came to this place because I had a nail in my tire I needed patched. They then told me it would take a couple hours to patch even though they had 4 people working and minimal cars there and that it would cost me $75 and up to patch it and if I needed a new tire it could be anywhere from $150-300 dollars for a new tire. They tried getting over on me because I am a female, but I am not dull minded when it comes to cars, coming from a family full of mechanics. I have a Mercedes And actual Mercedes dealership has never tried charging me this much. To make the story short I took it or another place near by and they only charged me $20 dollars to patch the tire and I was out in 10 minutes. I'm happy I took my business elsewhere read more

Sometimes companies go above and beyond. This tire shop was exceptional. My tire blew out on the highway late at night and I managed to drag my car off the highway as AAA was unable to get my tire off due to a fancy lug nut and a missing wrench. The next day, I managed to get my car towed to Toscalito's when the dealership (Landrover) could neither assist with the wrench nor fit us in. After what seemed like hours the tech (Oscar) managed to go to the car dealership and grab a box of various wrenches. None fit. They banged and prodded and managed to get the lug nut off. They worked endlessly to fix my tire. I had less than 10 minutes to spare or I would have had to rent a car to make it to a very important meeting. Paul, the owner, was superb. Oscar, the tech was a problem solver. The fact they fit me in without notice, went the extra mile to solve my problem, drove to a dealership and back without a thought, and got me out the door in time for my meeting was a miracle. Amidst the service industry closures, I was delighted to find that Toscalito Tire was open last week. The tire light had come on. I arrived, was greeted, waited for several minutes and the attendant took my car, checked/filled the air on all tires (pressure was different on all of them and I had just had them rotated a week ago) and replaced the cap on the valve stem on one of the tires. Toscalito Tire is a solid deal for a tire, brake etc garage. Dean set me up with a good deal on four tires that saved me several hundred dollars. The service was fast and friendly and thorough. The only thing I'd ding them on is the modest waiting room with kind of uncomfortable chairs although in fairness I don't imagine that many people wait. Oh, and they use powdered creamer in their coffee . All in all I will absolutely come back here for anything they can do for my Subaru. Dean just can back in and let me know my car does not n es an alignment! Great news! This place is honest and fast and fair and comfortable enough even if you wait for your car.
