I really loved Shari (rice with vinegar) taste which tells you all about quality of sushi experience chef has and you can't beat quality of fish he serve some of them are imported directly from Japan. Toshi has been sushi chef for so many years (previously he had restaurant in Little Tokyo) and I highly recommend Omakase during dinner time since this is the best way to enjoy Sushi Chef skills. I've worked in the city of Gardena for quite some time, and didn't know about this place. I was out searching for some lunch, yelped for sushi, and Toshi sushi came up. I was a little hesitant when you first pull up since it's a very small facility and the parking isn't that great. All that changed when I sat down. I was greeted by one of the kindest and attentive servers I've ever met. The sushi is very good with a wide selection. Don't let the cover of this book for you. It's worth a visit. read more

Glad I found this place! Great selection and value, with tempting specials. The Chirashi was one the best I've had for under $50, and it cost less than $30. Not huge but a good variety of fish that was all high quality and fresh. I've had fried shishito peppers a hundred times, but never with sesame and katsuobushi flakes sprinkled on top - delicious! I will definitely add this to the list of places I want to visit when I'm in the area. We ordered the regular omakase and it far exceeded our expectations. The sashimi and sushi were of the best quality and gorgeously presented. There were several other courses, such as chawan mushi and shumai. The homemade miso soup had several small clams-in-the-shell in it--so Japanese! Absolutely loved Toshi Sushi. The best authentic Japanese restaurant in the South Bay! We travel to Japan often and rarely experience this quality of authentic Japanese food in the U.S. Toshi and his staff go above and beyond. One of the air conditioning units wasn't blowing much air the evening we were there. It was scheduled to be fixed the next morning. I never leave a bad review this is my first the energy was so heavy the server was rude and felt like wanted us out of there asap I've never gotten sick off food and felt like throwing up and I love all sushi even grocery store sushi I've never had a bad or mid roll in my life until tonight. And the baked muscle had way too much alcohol and it was probably bc it went bad I am underage and started feeling weird and buzzed off it I can usually handle my alcohol great so that's why I think it went bad. I went to this restaurant several times when it was in Little Tokyo, & have been there 3-4 times at its current location in Gardena. I've never been disappointed. The food & service has always been very good. The tempura is some of the best I've ever had, including the tempura I had in Japan. I went there a couple times since they opened this year. As the other readers pointed up, the owner moved his restaurant from Little Tokyo to the South Bay, and this is definitely a welcome addition to the area. This is a more traditional Japanese sushi restaurants, its menu has a lot of varieties, but its heart & soul remains with the traditional nigiri sushi. Its quality in general is a bit higher than some sushi competitors around the area, the higher price tag reflects it, and they sometimes import some rarer fish from Japan as well. On the other hand, their cooked dishes are decent, but not as good as the sushi counterpart. I tried its omakase, out of 9 courses, only 1 is sashimi, and another course with only 5 pieces of nigiri sushi, the rest are just cooked dishes which there are definitely some hits & misses. If you're a sushi lover, I would recommend to skip the omakase, either order your own sushi, or get the sushi combo. Overall, this is one of a better sushi restaurants around South Bay. read more

This is a very wonderful new sushi restaurant to grace the streets of Gardena. All of the staff were incredibly polite, graceful, and elegant. The little details of the place added to the coziness and warm hospitality felt here: the neatly folded chopstick paper holder, the presentation of the omakase courses, the mouthwash lovingly offered in the bathroom, and so on. Been here twice and love the omakase! We like the mix of Japanese dishes and sushi. The miso black cod was fragrant and delicious. We really like the stewed daikon. Something so simple but flavorful. Everything was incredible, the miso soup was the best I've had, the karange was perfectly fried, the gyoza was delicious, and all of this was before the main course arrived, the quality of the fish was some of the best I've had in LA. Omg! I'm soooo glad I tried this place while looking for a Omakase place to try in the neighborhood. Toshi is awesome, all of the "appetizers" that didn't weren't even part of the main Omakase were unbelievable. We had literally courses, tofu appetizer with seaweed clearly imported from Japan. The plate of tiny (I would call tapas style) seafood which had by far the best Melt in your mouth Toro which he explained was Toro Hama (I didn't even know it existed). Carpaccio salmon, halibut and yellowtail in the best oil/lemon sauce! Options of either homemade, Shinzo, egg roll or gyoza. Miso soup with options of head in the soup and clams or fried head on the side. The chawanmushi was the only basic part of the meal shockingly enough. Wow I'm writing this review as we enjoy the last course of the omakase. It's not a meal here it's an experience! One of the most enjoyable one we have experienced in a while. As we celebrate a special occasion the food here takes us back to our time in Japan! Every single dish is served with beautiful presentation and the taste is beyond words. Chef Toshi is incredible and he makes each dish and fish shine~ paired with delicious marinade or by itself. As we were eating our meal I recommended this place to all our circle of friends who live in the area because this place is such a gem and you don't want to miss it. If you have a special occasion I definitely recommend to call ahead to make a reservation but on weekdays it's an easy walk in. Went to Toshi Sushi last night for dinner and it was amazing. Service was great, and all of our order was as well. Started with edamame then had an eel avocado roll, spicy tuna roll, albacore, freshwater eel and bluefin tuna sushi all amazing. Then we finished with the tempura green tea ice cream. This new sushi joint is comfortable and relaxing, friendly and warm, and the food is truly outstanding. The freshness and presentation of the sushi is top notch. The baby squid was an especially tasty surprise, I've never had better uni, and the sashimi carpaccio left me yearning for more.
