We came here after seeing POV Husband rave about the omakase here. On this Thursday, it seemed like 99% of the bar seats were having the omakase for dinner right along with us. This place obviously has regulars who know Chef Taka & were really having a great time with him. Chef Brian served us the most perfect bites of ridiculously fresh fish. Some of my fave sushi pieces were a torched salmon w/kelp, Spanish mackerel, uni, eel, & sweet shrimp. A tiny, molten hot chawanmushi had the most flavorful surprises within. And the broth made from the sweet shrimp head was liquid gold. A really nice finish to dinner was a little scoop of black sesame ice cream, included in the omakase. The perfect amount of food, & every bite was fantastic. Warm service, friendly faces, & easy parking made this an omakase I want to repeat often! read more

We had heard about this place thru an influencer we follow online and came to treat ourselves for a birthday lunch. Highlights -easy parking -decent amount of indoor seating -quick and kind service: we got here at 11:30a (right at their opening time). We ordered, ate and left within the hr, even with a baby. - for omakase, it's bang for the buck. Some of the reviews complain about the portion sizes but it's not too bad. I actually appreciated that the sushi rice didn't overwhelm the fish. The miso soup was good (had more than just tofu but also had carrots, and diakon radish bits). First time having the Kakitamajiru. Not bad at all either. If I'm a fan, then why did I not give this place 5 stars? The quality of the actual fish. When I had asked the waitress what the difference between the fish was for the Chirashi bowl vs sushi combo vs omakase, she said it was the quality of fish. I won't know for sure, but the quality of the sushi for the omakase was not top tier. It was okay. Not the worst but surely not "top tier." I honestly would not be surprised if i ordered the sushi combo/chirashi bowl, my opinion of quality would be the same. Then, that would mean I'm paying extra for the miso soup, Kakitamajiru, and dessert for the omakase? Overall, a decent place id be willing to come back to and try again. read more

Food Wife and I came here after craving some really good quality sushi and we were in the area, so we decided to check this place out. We ordered 1 for each of us the omakase nigiri combo, which is 14 pcs of sushi, steamed egg, and miso soup. For the price, I would definitely say that it was worth it with everything that you get and the quality of the sushi they give you. The fish were all really good quality and really well made. The miso soup and steamed egg were both good bonuses that came with it. Service/Ambiance On a friday evening dinner, place wasn't too packed and you had an option for either bar seating in front of the chefs or just a regular table. We had opted for a regular table, but next time we'd definitely go for the bar seating as they make it in front of you and serve it to you one by one rather than serving all the choices in one plate. Came here for dinner and sure glad I did. I got the omakase and they hit it out of the park! Great price and amazing quality. Everything from decor to food seemed very authentic and had a chill vibe. The fish was all fresh and came out quickly. I really enjoyed the steamed egg too, well made. There was plenty of parking in the lot. I was a little bit early for dinner so there wasn't any wait and i was seated immediately. Staff was very friendly. For dessert, we received ice cream and got to chose from red bean or black sesame. Very good and fresh sushi. I came here with my husbands family and we celebrated his moms bday. We all ordered omakase the sushi plate came out within 5 min. Lots of different nigiri sushi. The uni was my favorite. There was toro, maguro, salmon, kanpachi, squid, salmon roe, egg and more. We also had chawan mushi which had shiitake and it was creamy. At the end we get either red bean or black sesame ice cream. Omakase sushi plate is $63 before tip and tax. All the chef were Japanese felt authentic and they were all welcoming! Amazing 14 course omakase deal for $63! Tucked away in a plaza this place is a hidden gem. We made a reservation for Friday night and were seated at the counter. It's super lively when we went with customers drinking with the sushi chefs. Only thing for me was sitting at the counter was a bit squishy and my shoulders were very close to the next person, other than that service and food were great. 14 course comes with chawanmushi, different fish varieties with interesting sauce pairings, unagi, tamago, miso with shrimp head, and ice cream at the end. Bang for your buck omakase. Went for a weekday lunch with a few friends. There was free parking in the strip mall lot. Walked in and was sat immediately. Ordered the omakase for $63~ per person. Comes with 14 pieces plus miso soup, chawanmushi, and choice of red bean or black sesame ice cream. Dishes came out fairly quickly. The miso soup was exactly that and the chawanmushi was piping hot - was pretty good. The sushi pieces came out and were all very good. Your normal pieces, along with things like toro, uni, and ikura. Kanpachi served a great array of sushi in their set. For around $65 you can get uni, sweet shrimp, and negi toro in the set! The quality of the sushi is pretty good. I really enjoyed it but the reason I gave them a 4/5 was because one of the pieces of sushi was a little fishy tasting. The rest were fantastic! The servers were very nice and attentive to our table. ($15) My wife got some assorted sushi, shrimp tempura, and soup. The Miso soup was amazing, filled with veggies and so good. I ended up ordering a few more pieces of sushi. It was also high quality and tasty. I appreciated that they make smaller rice nigiri, so there is a better balance of flavors. Be sure to try try the Abalone, the scallop and the salmon nigiri. Ever since our last visit here, my husband has been asking to come back. This spot usually loses out to my favorite Izakaya spot across the street. However, this time I gave in and I'm glad I did. We walked in about an hour before the afternoon closing at 2pm and we were greeted and immediately seated. We noticed the lunch menu filled with Sashimi options and everything looked delicious. You can also order off the paper checklist. We shared the deluxe Sashimi which came with a variety of fish which included uni and unagi. Also added was Japanese egg, and vegetable sushi rolls. Everything was fresh and delicious! We also tried the soft shell crab roll. We needed a bit of sauce for this roll, besides the soy sauce, and they brought us the delicious sauce that the unagi was dressed with. Service was friendly and fairly fast. There is a sushi bar and a couple of tables in the main entrance and it appears that there is more seating if you continue to walk further into the restaurant. The worst I have ever experienced in LA - the server conveniently "forgot" to tell us about half of the menu and basically never spoke so we did not know you could order rolls and sashimi (it was our first time here but she didn't know because she didn't speak to us) - half way through our meal we had to ask for water, they only brought 1 cup for the table - we had ordered a second round of food and the server cleared the table / no plates chopsticks / soy sauce dishes... she took everything - by the way when she cleared the table her whole body leaned over the table and you could smell her perfume (yuck) - when they brought food back they forgot to give us plates... and only gave chopsticks and soy dishes. So we patiently waited - same server did not offer a dessert.. simply gave us the icecream that came with omakase and the bill . Still on the hunt for a local sushi place. My wife and I decided to give Kanpachi a try. We started out with a large bottle of Sapporo and sunomono with tako. I ordered thr special nigiri and my wife ordered the regular nigiri. We also trieectge spicy tuna roll. The sunomono was sliced nice and thin and the tako was not rubbery like so many other places. The spicy tuna was good and the nugiri dinners were delicious. We also was served miso soup which had lots of flavor and loaded with vegetables. The door to the men's room was a light hollow door, so it didnt knock me over like a heavy door would. The waitress even held the exit door open so I could easily walk through with my cane. read more

Oh my... Kase! I enjoyed the omakase so much! I loved sitting in front of the chef and receiving the nigiris right away. I notice the fish tastes way better when it's eaten immediately after it's prepared. The omakase also comes with miso soup, steamed egg and your choice of black sesame or red bean ice cream. I had the black sesame and it was delightful, love the nutty, toastiness from the sesame. :) Every nigiri that came out was packed with flavor and I appreciated the chef's instructions to each piece of nigiri. My friend took me here and I was so obsessed I came back the next day with my bf. The chirashi bowl is SO fresh and delicious. I was so impressed with the prices and the quality of the meat. I love that they put uni in their chirashi bowl. They have amazing pink flakes in it that I've never tried before but now I'm hooked on the flavor of them. I love a dish that introduces me to new things while also serving my favorite flavors. This place is authentic Japanese sushi for sure. First, I want to say that I never write reviews but our visit to Kanpachi was not a pleasant one so I feel I need to write this review. We went there to celebrate my best friends birthday and enjoy some sushi, however, the waitresses managed to ruin the time there for us. Food--The food portions of sushi were very small and not very tasty. The salmon sushi was the better tasting of the tuna, yellowtail and unagi. The california roll was tasty but they were so small. We ordered edamame, and it was not fresh. I informed the waitress that the edamame was bad and she didn't say one word, she didn't apologize or credit the bill $4. Service--was terrible. Our waitress didn't speak much English and didn't know what some of the sushi rolls consisted when asked. The restaurant was not busy when we entered and the waitress suggested we sit at the bar. We had to say twice that we wanted a table. Ambiance--at first ambiance seemed fine as we were one of the first ones when the restaurant opened. However, we were not finished drinking the one beer we were sharing and we were still in conversation when my friend said that the waitress kept looking at us and had her arms folded. It was an uncomfortable situation for her since she had to look that way the entire time. At one point the waitress brought the check to the table and waited there for the credit card. We weren't finished yet so she came back minutes later with a little payment credit card machine and shoved it on the table. That really upset me! Very rude and disrespectful! I finally paid but believe me, I didn't want to leave a tip at all! I thought maybe they had other people waiting for the table but when we got up to leave, there wasn't anyone else waiting. I will never return to Kanpachi, as it has the worst service and the food is not worth the money. read more

This hidden gem just became my new favorite spot for a casual omakase. I love their affordable price, quality of the fish, and overall great service and vibes! I came on a Friday night and waited about 10-15 mins for the bar seating. The two of us each ordered the omakase set and a sake. We got to watch and interact with the chef who made our sushi in front of us. The chef was really fun and friendly and even joined us for a shot of sake. Their omakase nigiri set is $49 and includes 14 pieces of fish, chawanmushi, miso soup, and a scoop of red bean or black sesame. The fish here is so fresh and my favorite nigiri was the toro and the uni. The chef threw in a bowl of cooked tuna and it was amazingly tender. For dessert, we tried their red bean and black sesame ice cream and I enjoyed the black sesame because the flavor was strong but not too sweet. Everything here was so good and I would definitely come back. I highly recommend checking them out if you're in the mood for sushi. I think I just found my favorite Omakase sushi spot in the South Bay. I had the omakase nigiri set which came with miso soup with shrimp head (blew my mind, the umami from the shrimp head was delicious!), steamed egg, and a Black Sesame ice cream for dessert. I always order Monkfish liver, and boy was it unforgettable; this sealed the deal for me. My son ordered cut rolls: salmon skin, and two spider rolls. We love salmon so we ordered more salmon nigiri. Everything was fresh, and satisfyingly delicious. Ambiance was your typical Japanese sushi restaurant. However, I believe they had traditional Japanese rooms behind sliding wooden doors.
