    Sushi combo
    Thu D.

My friend and I came here for lunch on a Saturday, and there were plenty of tables available. I got the sushi combo, which came with eight pieces of sushi, and my friend got the lunch combo, which allowed her to choose two items from a list. Both combos included miso soup and a very small salad. The sushi was fresh and delicious, and we had a nice lunch with friendly service.

This place is incredible! I keep coming back. The service is outstanding and the sushi is FIRE! Sushi Combination plate is the way to go. They know what they're doing. 10/10 for me. You definitely get what you pay for.

Delicious place for lunch in Torrance. I loved the nigiri we got from here. It was so fresh tasting! Everything was presented so beautifully and tasted great. We got the nigiri special, popcorn shrimp and soft shell crab. I would come back again!

Cute low key spot. Def has a good level of authenticity. The parking lot is small so either you'll get lucky or park in tozai plaza next door. Overall our experience was great and def came through for our sushi craving. Salmon skin salad: overall the salad and dressing was yummy. However, there wasn't really actual salmon skin nor was it crispy... it was more like flakes of sautéed salmon meat and not very much of it. For $16 and the small amount of fish we got I prob wouldn't order again. Sushi combo: delicious. It came with takiwasa, ikura, salmon, salmon belly, tuna, chutoro, and white pieces of white fish, 2 with seasonings. I love that they topped one w yuzu kosho! I usually don't care for ikura or takowasa but both were good and fresh tasting! We liked the sushi so much that we ordered more Ika/squid Kinmedai/golden eye snapper Nodoguro/Blackthroat seaperch Sayori/japanese halfbeak Saba/mackerel Negitoro handroll (green onion w/ chutoro) So everything was such good quality and so good... except one which was the ika/squid I love ika sushi but only at good quality sushi places because if not it's terrible. Given that all the other sushi was such good quality I was surprised when this ika was probably the worst I've had. It was probably not fresh and was tough and hard and tasted gross. Instead of spitting it out I just swallowed the whole thing immediately LOL I just couldn't think because it was so bad and especially in this setting I didn't want to be rude. So don't get the ika or ask about its freshness.

I know that I've done something right in my life to enjoy a meal at Toshi Sushi. The toro sashimi is so fresh and melts like butter in your mouth. The Hamachi Kama is a salty, smoky delight. The chirashi bowl is delicious and includes such high quality fish. The very best parts of Toshi? The vibe and the Chef, what a kind person who has created a welcoming space. This place is unpretentious and underrated. It deserves 5 solid stars.

Let me start by saying that I love Toshi They have an amazing shrimp crunch roll and their cucumber seaweed salad is simply amazing. Very tasty. I normally ask for extra ginger as their ginger is simply amazing. You add it to your Crunchyroll. Take a little bit with each bite and wow, it's amazing. The cucumber seaweed salad just goes together so well has an amazing taste, and I believe this cucumber salad will go well with any one of their items on their menu. I am a crunch roll fan.

Amazing and fresh sushi and sashimi, very friendly and fast service, the pieces of fish were all very large and thick, as well as fresh. I ordered the omakase set and my husband had the chirashi bowl. Both of us loved the food. What a hidden gem - we will be back!!

Lunch special with teriyaki chicken and tempura

What a gem of a place! We were passing through the area around lunch time on Saturday and stopped in here for lunch. We were warmly greeted and sat down. Service was quick! I got the lunch special with the teriyaki chicken and the shrimp/veggie tempura. My friends opted to get an assortment of rolls and the udon soup. Everyone was very happy with their options. The fish was fresh and tender. Even a basic tuna roll was good! The ambiance is fun, with a little corner of memorabilia was interesting to look at.

Lunch Special - super delicious and also comes with miso soup and salad

Came here for lunch and it was so good I came back the next day for dinner with the whole family. The service is exceptional with super friendly staff. They were prompt and very welcoming. I was surprised by the great quality of the fish. The sashimi and sushi were so fresh and the perfect texture. They have great prices for lunch and dinner for the sushi. All the cooked dishes were delicious and kid approved. I would order the karaage, gyoza and tempura again! And definitely the special chirashi for lunch & sashimi combination for dinner! Can't wait to try other dishes. The restaurant itself was super spacious and would be great for large group dinners and kid friendly. Coming back soon for the amazing experience and fresh fish!

A hidden gem! This is a totally nondescript place that you may not stop in. When we went it was fairly empty but that was not indicative of the food, which was delicious! The sushi was fresh, melting in your mouth. The black cod was 10/10. We met with Chef Toshi who is an absolute delight! 10/10 would return for a no frills classic sushi restaurant.

When we arrived for lunch, the place was quite festive with a mixture of young people, families with kids, and an ongoing lunch party with senior ladies. Luckily, we were able to get the last table, and the friendly waiter brought the water and menus right away. After browsing through their menu, we ordered the following items: Special Fish Combo (Spanish Mackerel): The Spanish mackerel was nicely grilled but lightly seasoned. It had quite a few bones, which took a little bit out of the enjoyment of the meal. The udon noodles had a very nice texture, however the broth was on the bland side. The California rolls were well made and flavorful. Tempura Combo: The shrimps were tender, however, the battered outer layer of the tempura was a tad thick and not quite airy. Like Fish Combo, the udon had a bland broth, and the California rolls were fine. Our main issue was the 50-minute wait time for the meals. As a courtesy, the restaurant definitely should have informed us about the delay.

I decided to keep things simple and ordered the sashimi and broiled mackerel fish set, which came with rice, miso soup, cabbage salad, and macaroni salad. My husband couldn't settle on just one dish, so he went all out with a chicken oyakodon, grilled salmon, steamed eggplant, and a stir-fried chicken and bean sprout dish. The restaurant itself is narrow and deep, which actually reminded me of some of the small alleyway restaurants we visited during our travels in Japan. It added to the cozy and authentic feel. The service was attentive, especially when we requested a few extra items. One thing that really stood out was their ponzu sauce. It seemed to include green onions and perhaps a touch of vinegar, and it was absolutely delicious. It paired perfectly with the sashimi, steamed eggplant, and even the chicken dishes. Next time, I'm definitely going to spend some time studying the menu beforehand. The portions were generous enough that we had leftovers for another meal, and we were lucky enough to find parking right in front of the restaurant.

The first thing I tried was the Sizzling Mushroom Gravy over Crispy Rice; The dish was to die for and my personal favorite thing I tried. I don't even know how to describe how flavorful and well put together the gravy was with mushroom pieces that were perfectly soft and easy to eat. Next was the salad which was so fresh, citrusy, and tasty; It was salty and all the flavors complemented each other so well forming a perfect citrusy salad. After that was the shrimp tempura. It was not too fried/flaky. It was kind of like a taquito. The shrimps flavor was very fresh with a complementary umami flavor. The Sardine Sashimi was super high quality. It was super soft and fatty and ended with a heavy pleasant fishy flavor. The miso grilled cod was great. Not much to say about it was almost creamy and the miso was good. I ate the skin too and it tasted great. The main part of this place is the soba. The kikouchi soba are thicker 100% buckwheat noodles that were very well cooked and pleasant to eat. The Plum "Ume" broth was so refreshing and nice. I ate it cold; I probably would have preferred it hot but the is just a personal preference. The Ginger Pork was great. The pork itself was super gingery without being too pungent. The shredded cabbage was super easy to pick up and eat and the side of noodle salad and miso soup were great complements to the meal. I can tell no corners were cut anywhere and that Otafuku puts a little of effort into every meal they prepare. There is great care for all of the preparations and it was a very special meal. It was pretty busy on a Sunday evening, but after about a 5-minute wait for a table to be cleaned, we were seated. The space had a lively, casual vibe -- definitely a popular spot for dinner. I love seafood, but I also really wanted to try the katsu, so even though I'm not a big eater, I went with Combo D... which was huge. Honestly, I think it could easily feed two people. The side soup and bread came out almost immediately. The soup was simple but nice with a bit of pepper, and the bread was so good -- warm, soft, and buttery (I had to pace myself knowing what was coming). The pasta was delicious -- the clams weren't overly "clammy" (lol), and the cream sauce was light and not too heavy. The katsu was crispy and satisfying, and the salad added a nice, refreshing balance. Everything worked really well together. I ended up taking a good portion home, and even reheated, it was still just as good! Overall, a great spot with generous portions and solid food. This restaurant came up on my FB feed, and the food looked really good, so we thought, "Why not…read moregive it a try?" I usually read through the Yelp comments and look at the photos before trying a new place, but this time I only checked the rating -- which was great -- and decided to go based on that and the FB post. Looking back, I probably should have read the reviews first. We didn't realize the bento boxes are only available during lunchtime, and we were also surprised to find out they don't have yakitori. Those were two things we were hoping to try. We came with a party and ordered several items, including the Akatsuki Special Hot Pot, which was recommended to us, along with other dishes. The tempura and karaage were definitely the highlights -- both were really good. The rest of the food was okay for our group, but unfortunately it didn't really satisfy our craving or stand out the way we were hoping. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere and the staff was friendly. I think the biggest thing was that our expectations were set by what we saw on FB, and the items that caught our attention weren't available when we visited. I would recommend checking their current menu before going so you know what to expect. Maybe we'll come back another time to try their lunch menu and explore more of what they offer.
