Amazing authentic hidden gem of Houston. This is the type of place you'd never find unless someone told you about it. It's VERY authentic Mexican food - the staff pretty much speaks only Spanish if that says anything! The reason for 4/5 stars was solely due to service. As mentioned - this place is very authentic so language barrier was an issue for me (waiter did not speak English). Because of this - I think he misunderstood my order and gave me a cheese enchiladas instead of chicken. I won't hold this against the restaurant too much - if you're coming here KNOW YOUR SPANISH! I really like Tostada Regia - wish I were closer. The tostadas are obviously fantastic. So are the soups. All of them. Tlalpeno is always a favorite. The menudo is excellent. All good. If you get chips and salsa make sure to get the oily red one. I sometimes don't get all the "other" salsas which I think is because I'm a non Spanish speaker. Service is always great. read more

This is a really really good Mexican restaurant. If you don't mind waiting in line for really good flavored food I would definitely try this place out. I recommend the tostadas. I have to be honest, we loved everything about this place. I am a professional chef and my husband's family owned one the most famous Mexican restaurants in Houston. We eat tons of Mexican food all over Houston and surrounding areas. We eagerly search out places just like this and meat markets in hopes of finding the exact vibe we found last night. We have a large family and brought all five children with us last night for a total of 7 ppl. This place checked all the boxes for us. The food was very good! I seriously loved everything from the kids meals to the adults. We got many things and it was all delicious. The place got very busy which we loved. The vibe was great. I loved the staff- Sweet as can be! The prices were reasonable and portions are very generous! The restrooms were clean. I had the best time and we will be back! They were very rude when a friend of mine wanted to order and she didn't speak Spanish, they hung up on her. She called back and asked for someone who spoke English to help her and they acted like they didn't hear her on the phone and hung up on her again. The best thing here is in the name....order the tostadas! Las norteñitas are an order of 3 tostadas (about average size) with your choice of meat. The bistec and pastor are always good. The chicken is sometimes hit or miss (sometimes it's sooo tasty and other times it tastes like "old" chicken) The red salsa they bring out with the chips is the gem at this location. It's served hot (temperature hot). It is PHENOMENAL. Good little spot for a quick bite. Every time I have been, the place is busy. So they must be doing something right ;-) read more

Amazing salsa and Pirata Plate! It's a bit crowded and hectic inside, but service is fast and friendly. Helps if you speak Spanish, but English works just fine. The salsa they serve is a warm, fire roasted variety. Very spicy - some of the hottest you will find - but amazing taste and very addictive. They also have a green and some others that are good too. The thing to get here is the Pirata Plate. Grilled beef, onions and cheese, with avacado, served on a toasted tortilla. Two of these with rice and beans for only $6.25! Amazing food at an amazing deal. I've tried a few other items, including the namesake Tostada - and they're good, but the Pirate Plate is the way to go.
