Delicious Turkish food in a very cool restaurant. Had several appetizers: Ezme - delicious with a little heat. So hard to find it this good; lebni yogurt appy;cigari boriak (sorry, I don't know how to spell it) falafel in a bed of a mint pesto and babaganoush . Their online menu isn't loading right now so I can't post the entrees that we had, but everything was excellent. Service was wonderful - our glasses were never empty of water and our kind waitress kept our pita basket full of their wonderful homemade pita bread. It's too bad that this is a BW review, as I really enjoyed my food and experience here. But given that I came here under a different name and for the entirety of my meal I was one of three patrons and it seemed to be in an out-of-the-way strip, I can't say I am entirely surprised. I'm not surprised but I am saddened. The restaurant business is tough, y'all. Support your faves. I knew that I wanted to hop over to Edgewater. I'd heard that the views were nice and late spring was going to be about the best time of year to take them in. I also knew that I didn't want to eat inside and I wanted something ethnic. The jelps led me to Marmaris Cafe and I was happy they did. I was greeted by a very nice women (owner) who led me to a seat I wanted and invited me to explore the menu. Even though the inside was sparse, you could smell the seasoning in the air. That was a good sign. I began my meal with the red lentil soup. Despite being red, the soup color was yellow (thanks to the tumeric and carrot?) and more blended/liquidy than I expected. The flavor, though, was deep, layered and hearty. With my belly primed, I helped myself a hot, heaping bowl of lamb sac tava (and white rice). Oh man. This was incredible. The lamb was nicely seasoned in a rich marinade, ensconced in tomato, pepper and garlic. I mixed the rice in the thick (but bite-sized) pieces of lamb and veggies and let the starch soak up the delicious juices. The food looks straight-forward but I struggled to finish it all. Deceptively filling. Helping with digestion was the piping hot Turkish tea (strong black tea served in beautiful glassware). I left full, happy and very pleased with myself. I am sorry to know that Marmaris/Tosun is no more. I can only hope that was a decision of the owners and not something forced upon them. Eat local. Support small businesses. read more

What a beautiful gem I found after a day at the spa near edgewater in NJ. The owner/chef really accommodated although it was near closing. He gave us such recommendations and great attention. We had the split pea soup (my fav) definitely dip their fresh pita bread in it. We got the fresh hummus and calamari and it didn't disappoint. For dinner we had the Bronzino which is filleted with couscous that were good and the steak kebabs that were tender and tasty (he even explained the process). Although they were finishing their night we were served with smiles and patience and the even some extra dessert. If you're in the area definitely stop in. I'll be sure to be back to try more. I came to Tosun on a Tuesday night a few weeks ago. It was fairly empty with only 2 other tables with people. Starting with what I liked, the food. The food here is was excellent to say the least. Appetizers were very good and I liked the hummus. I had the beef kebab and it was honestly one of the best I've had. My mother had the salmon and she liked how it was prepared. We had the Balkava for desert. It was good, but a bit too sweet for me. One thing I do want to note is this restaraunt does not serve alcohol, so make sure to come with a bottle of wine, if you drink. Overall, I would say the food here is 4/5. The service here was shockingly bad. Getting the waiters to serve us was like pulling teeth and they had a bad attitude. My son came first and he asked for water for everyone. The waiter brings a closed bottle of poland spring and didn't pour it for anyone. When I arrived with my wife and mother, we brought a bottle of wine and the waitress hands us a bottle opener instead of opening it and pouring it. I then tried to get a waiters attention and they were just roaming around to help open it for us. After about 5 minutes of trying to get a waiter over, they came and opened the bottle. It took a long time for the waiter to come and take our orders even if we tried to get their attention. As we were dining the waiters did not come once to our table. I understand if the restaraunt is full but it was practically empty. After we ate, the waiters disappeared somewhere we had to wait for 10 minutes to ask for the bill. Even then, they didn't want to walk over to us. I have never seen such poor service and was shocked that a good restaraunt has this issue. Service was 0.01/5. Finally, the bill. The bill includes tips and I would have left half of what was computed given how terrible the service was. The bill was much more than I expected and I didn't like how expensive it was. Finally got a chance to stop by this place for lunch, and I can tell you that it's an authentic, Turkiye-cozy, and delicious restaurant with lots of vegetarian options. First of all, the interior is warm and inviting with elements of Turkish designs and makes you feel at ease. Menu is pretty straight-forward, with a long list of appetizers separated by cold or hot, which I found was thoughtful, especially for ladies who may want to know if an app is cold or not. Some oven items, pita sandwiches, and of course, main courses. We ordered lightly since it was a lunch: 1. Muhteber (Cold App, $8.5, 3/5) - We love babaghanoush and order it all the time so figured we'd try something else. This is char-grilled eggplant w/ aged feta and walnut (tree nut allergy warning!) which was rather ... bland though had interesting bite texture. We ate it with their hot & chewy pita bread and while it felt wholesome, it wasn't as tasty as good ole babaghanoush. 2. Mixed Pide (Entree, $22, 4/5) - Basically a large flat bread pizza from oven, it was quite delicious w/ smoky cumin flavor permeating the mouth-watering spicy sausage & pastrami. It was a satisfying savory & crunchy bite that was filling. 3. Chicken Shish wrap (Entree, $17.5, 4/5) - A bit smaller than what I'm used to, it was well-balanced in meat & veggie ratio, and the sauce they use was delicious. Came with pipin'-hot fries! We also enjoyed their fresh squeezed OJ and Turkish tea which was served in the authentic tea cup w/ base. We also had a nice chat with our waitress who was from Izmir, Turkey which we recently traveled nearby on our cruise, so that was rather nice. We came here for our anniversary dinner, attracted by the nice view and tasty looking food. They definitely did not disappoint! Food: This Turkish spot in Edgewater serves great Mediterranean fare. We ordered the calamari to start, and then followed it up with the Mixed Grill and Skirt steak which both came with their own sides. Wow these portions were big. One entree could probably have fed the both of us comfortable. We ended up having to take the leftovers away. Very tasty! Mediterranean/Greek/Turkish food - A selection hard to find in this area, but the food is decent and it's BYOB. Always a must get is : Shepherd's Salad (with lots of herbs!!!!!) Shrimp casserole (Tomato sauce) - Great for dipping with bread as if it's Shashuka ^^ Their dips are great !!!!Tzatziki, hummus, babaganoush, etc. Baklava & Kunefe for dessert !!!!! Very tasty and authentic Turkish cuisine! Went here with my mentor who is from Turkey and we ordered a variety of appetizers/ finger foods. He surprised me and ordered in Turkish with the waitress, so I only knew what some of the dishes were but not all. The dessert was to die for and I really enjoyed the Lahmacun, the shepherds small salad, the Muhteber with the pita bread was also tasty and the feta in phyllo (sigara boregi) were super delicious. Quaint cafe with gorgeous indoor and outdoor seating! Right on river road in Edgewater, I'm so glad we stumbled upon this place. They halal some halal dishes that you won't find in typical places. We got the mixed meat pide that had sausage and salami on it with special cheese. The margarita pizza was simple and so delicious, one of the best things we had, it came hot out of the clay oven. The chicken Adana kabab wrap and the lamb shush kabab were okay, they came with very delicious fries as well. Service was rather slow, but the food more than made up for it. For dinner we shared a variety of plates: -Lahmacun - kind of like a Turkish style flatbread! This is minced lamb meat baked on a crispy dough and I looooved this dish. Very light and appetizing. -Acili ezeme - simple and freshly chopped tomato & pepper dip. The dish was rather underwhelming, but tasted better on top of the complimentary bread. -Icli kofte - crispy little football-shaped balls filled with seasoned ground lamb. It came with a side of yoghurt dip, but definitely didn't need it. -Kuzu tandir - a generous serving of warm juicy lamb over pureed roasted eggplant. There was so much flavor in this entree! It eventually got filling and heavy by the end of the meal, but I would still definitely order this one again. -Kunefe - a baked sweet cheese dessert. If I could give this review 3.5 stars, I would. At first, it was pretty weird that we were ordering at 11:17 am and we had to wait until exactly 11:30 am to order off of the lunch menu, which includes the lahmacun... Thirteen... Minutes...? Our waitress was very friendly, but it didn't make sense. My sister and my cousin and I aren't very picky customers, so we just decided to shrug it off and laughed at how silly that was. The food was very tasty and savory. I like their plating, portions, and how easy it was to share the dishes amongst the three of us. Prices are reasonable and everything was fresh. Marmaris seemed terribly understaffed as our waitress was the only one taking orders, serving tables and also cleaning up (even though there were only two other tables of customers). I had to wait until the very end of our meal to get more water because she never came around or she was always preoccupied so I couldn't flag her down. At one point, we saw our waitress putting something in the oven while rushing to serve plates of food and I felt kind of bad because she was always frantic. Being that the meal was very carb heavy and on the saltier side, I was dying of thirst and was parched. Thank goodness my sister had some Turkish tea left for me to chug, which by the way was wonderfully fragrant. Went there on a Saturday 12/21 -- not too crowded - greeted pleasantly then served with freshly made chicken kebob and egg plant casserole and a pot of Turkish tea- the waitress was incredibly sweet and friendly, so is everyone who helped us at the restaurant; she brought us 2 pieces of baklava and said the baklava and tea were on the house - baklava was yum yum - I was craving Kunefe (holidays maaaan) and they did not disappoint with a hot and sweet Kunefeh. Overall a 5 star experience, the price was decent, the place was decorated nicely, food was fresh and tasty and service was excellent. Marmaris is an excellent choice for Turkish food in the Edgewater area. Prices are definitely on the upper end, so you may be better served in terms of pricing and portions by going to Paterson. That being said, Marmaris offers a classic menu filled with taste and freshness. They offer classical Turkish breakfast, in addition to lunch and dinner. In the Edgewater area, you won't find a better option for halal Turkish food. They are also close to the waterfront areas and have a small parking lot. We were in the area for Trader Joe's and Whole Food, we usually stop by Mitsuwa to grab something at the food court, but since it was closed for the night, I've decided to search for another place in the area. Marmaris was highly rated on Yelp, so we decided to check it out. I was not expecting such a charming restaurant when we pulled up, I thought it was the type of place where you pick up the food and head out. There is a small-ish parking lot outside the cafe, and an inviting outdoor space in the front of the cafe. We opted to sit inside, which was adorable with very pretty lighting and comfortable seating space. Each of the menu items was accompanied by a picture, I normally scoff at things like that, but this was super helpful as I am not familiar with Turkish food. We ordered a few dishes to share and they were all great, see details below. Hummus - the guy is a huge fan of hummus, and he really wanted to try their version of it. It was very good, but I don't think I've ever had bad hummus, I guess I don't really have a refined palate when it comes to hummus. However, the accompanied warm house-made pita really helped to elevate this dish. It was perfectly soft and chewy at the same time. Moreover, they were cut into bite size strips that allow easy dipping and eating. It's a small thing, but I appreciate the small touches Lamb Sac Tava - I love lamb, and I actually wanted to try the lamb shish kabab, but my guy was pointing to the picture of the Sac Tava, which confused the waiter and brought that out instead. I didn't mind the mix-up as this was a really good dish and I am glad we tried it. The dish consisted of bite size lamb with tomato and peppers. The dish was incredibly flavor and went well with the accompanied bulgur. Mixed Pide - this is a long flat bread baked with cheese, spicy sausage and chopped meat. It's like a Turkish pizza. I loved the cheese and the meat combination, and as I mentioned above, their bread baking skills are pretty on point. The servers were friendly and helpful. The cafe also had numerous dessert on display and I would've loved to try some if I was so stuffed from dinner already. The first few times I went to Marmaris were a few years ago and the food was spectacular. Recently, I went with a party of 10 for iftaar (Ramadan dinner). I was pretty disappointed overall. I got the ground chicken kebab (chicken Adana) which had a really weird flavor, nothing distinct just off. It was also extremely dry. I tried my friend's chicken kebab and it had the same strange flavor and was equally dry and chewy. The side salad was good and had a nice acidic dressing, but it was only a side salad after all. The waiter later told us we could only pay using 3 cards maximum, something the restaurant failed to inform us of upon making the reservation and the waiter failed to tell us before ordering. We made our case and he let us use five cards in the end. Altogether it was meh. However the decor is BEAUTIFUL and I'd possibly come back to try the breakfast! read more
