How do you write a review?? I'll try by steps we ll see how it goes. Step#1 pick a place to go, when all your friends are Armenian this isn't a tuff choice. Step#2 transportation figure out a way to hitch a ride with someone who drinks less than you. Step#3 evaluate the parking situation ahead of time, otherwise whoever is driving will probably have to move their car a few times. Step#4 refer to step#1 and go with friends who speak the language and know what to order! Now this step#5 is strictly for me don't go on a Friday when you can't eat MEAT!! We will deviate from the steps for a bit now. The salad we ordered was awesome bright cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, and feta. Fried liver slices which normally I wouldn't eat and couldn't anyway, but would have tried it. Turkish pizza made on flat bread with feta, devoured that for sure. That was just the apps then friends ordered their main courses. Beautiful lamb kabobs over rice, mixed grill of lamb and beef with some roasted peppers. A Turkish hamburger with fries which I never knew existed. Why did it have to be lent and a Friday?? I think I did say that already didn't i I'm sorry! Back to the steps. Step#6 be thankful that you picked a place where the staff was knowledgeable and accommodating. They went out of their way to reconfigure the tables to fit our party comfortably. One last step number7 enjoy your nite out with your friends, no matter where you are. In some cases you might see them often and in other cases not so much. I've been driving by Marmaris Cafe for quite some time now, I decided to pop in on a Wednesday afternoon roughly 3 pm. The Cafe was empty, only one other couple was inside. They offer outdoor seating as well as indoor seating - I chose to sit inside and avoid the heat. A few minutes after we sat down a basket of sliced pide (Turkish bread) was placed on the table. We began our meal with a coban salad (be aware there are multiple sizing options - this wasn't told to us, but we overheard another table order a small which we would have preferred had we known). Next we ordered a few Lahmacun's which were crispy and delicious - I loved how they sliced it into 4 slices, almost like eating a thin crust pizza. We also ordered a Kusbasili Pide - I didn't personally try it but the party I was with enjoyed it very much. read more

5 starts for the food, I took 1 star out because of parking. It is a small parking lot that doesn't have room for that many cars and while we were sitting and eating outside our entertainment was cars almost clipping and people running out to navigate drivers out of the parking lot. While we found the parking lot entertaining, we were happy we walked there. Food was good. I got a side order of a salad that filled me up and hit the spot. I essentially ordered the two items featured in the restaurant picture on yelp. I liked both and order was big enough for me to take some home and have for leftovers. Classy Turkish/Med food with a great ambience. The location is really good with convenient parking space available right in the front. There's no river view but the gusts of wind from the river wont let you feel that at all. Sitting space is ample and there's outdoor sitting as well. Be wary of the fact that server's may not notice you immediately if you are sitting outside. The food: Well, the best part! Awesome food. Period. Turkey - one of my favorite countries to visit in the world. Some of the best food on the planet. Although what you get in the US is such a small sampling of the overall cuisine, you have to find the good places. We came here after a long hike in July when it was very hot out. Everywhere still only had outdoor seating and when we arrived, there was almost nobody else there. Although a table was open under a fan, they wouldn't allow us to go there. It was at least 95 degrees out but it took a good 15 minutes for them to get us water even though there was almost nobody there. This is my only big knock about the place. The city this is named after, Marmaris, is in southern Turkey on the coast in the beautiful Turkish Riviera (yes, Turkey has beaches). I kind of expected this type of service, but not when it's 95 out and you clearly need water, even after asking. The service did eventually get better throughout the meal at least. Onto the food - we ordered a bunch of lahmacun, acili ezme, eggplant casserole, kuzu tandir (lamb and eggplant), some chicken wings, and a mixed platter - all this for 4 people. I also had 2 or 3 bottles of ayran. I appreciated that they served it with a glass of ice which a lot of places don't do. Everything was good and some was very good. Good bread too. We also had the kunefe for dessert which everyone liked a lot. I saw they serve a traditional Turkish breakfast, which I miss. I frequent this establishment more during the warmer weather as they offer a small outdoor seating staring into the parking / River road. Place is decorated with authentic flare and lots of colors. Chicken kabobs and, combo meat plate with variety of meat is delicious. If you are a fan of lamb, they serve some deliciously cooked lamb chops here. My recommendation is to stick with the meats and jams, dips and small plate of deliciousness! Mostly everything is pretty tasty and service is nothing to complain about. This was my first time dining at a Turkish establishment, and I gotta say, the food and portions here are excellent. The decor is cute, and makes you feel like you're in the streets of Europe. Wait staff is very friendly and accommodating, and I THINK the place is BYOB, although I could be wrong. My friend and I started off with the Shepherd's Salad to share, which is relatively similar to a Greek salad sans olives. Chopped tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, red onions, and parsley, sprinkled with feta cheese, and tossed in olive oil. It was INCREDIBLY fresh and cool, and would probably be a refreshing dish in the summer. Our next dish was the Lahmacun, which is pretty much a super thin flat bread topped with minced meat, minced veggies, and herbs. Rather plain looking, and they gave us a side of red onions, tomatoes and very large pieces of parsley leaves to throw on. It wasn't exactly exploding with flavor, but still a nice and simple dish. My FAVORITE dish of the night was the kuzu tandir, or roasted lamb, on a bed of eggplant puree. I'm a meat lover, and that lamb was DAMN good, but good god the eggplant puree stole the show. It had the texture and nearly the taste of mashed potatoes, that you wouldn't think you were having eggplant. A wonderful companion to the lamb. The portion itself was HUGE, and considering the amount of food we had prior to this dish coming out, we probably should've stopped halfway through the plate. Did we? Of course not. That plate was licked clean. Andddd you can't end the night without dessert, because as one Louis C.K. once said, "The meal isn't over when [you're] full. It's over when [you] hate yourself." Kazandibi, or "burned/caramelized milk pudding," is almost like flan but...honestly better. Not sure how else to explain it, but I'd definitely have this over flan any day. What another fantastic meal at Marmaris. This time I went for dinner and it was equally as delicious as the breakfast. Each dish had such unique and wonderful flavors. Our waitress was warm and friendly and her recommendations were on point. For apps, we had the Icli Kofte - croquettes filled with lamb. These were fried to perfection and the filling was very tasty. The side of yogurt sauce made it even tastier. We also had the Acili Ezme which I can only describe as a really spicy Turkish bruschetta. This is VERY spicy, so watch out. I could only have a couple bites but my husband enjoyed it on top of the pita bread. For entrees, I chose the classic but not boring, Chicken Shish Kabob with a side of bulgur. The chicken was tender, moist, and seasoned perfectly. What surprised me most was the bulgur. I was expecting it to be dry and tasteless but it was quite the opposite. The bulgur was cooked in a tomato sauce and mixed with peppers, onions, and spices. So delicious and healthy too! My husband went with a traditional Turkish dish, MANTI. It's essentially small dumplings filled with lamb and mixed in a tomato/garlic/yogurt sauce. He loved it. He's a big dumpling fan (Asian Alert) in general so this dish was right up his alley. For dessert, I wanted something different besides baklava and went with the KUNEFE. Best dessert ever! I think about it almost every day. It's that good. My following description will not do it justice. Essentially, it's two layers of shredded phyllo dough filled with a sweet soft cheese and drenched in a honey based syrup. YUMMM! This is my favorite Turkish restaurant in NJ. My boyfriend and I always go there when we're in Jersey. We mostly have breakfast and lunch, however their dinner options are also so good. Another great thing is that's BYOB restaurant. We mostly get different foods and share. Lahmacun is my favorite though. Last time we had small appetizer plate, lahmacun and mixed grill which has all good meat in it. They also have special dessert menu. I frequent Arabic establishments for food and hookah, but this is one of the few cafes I've been to that does not have hookah. The interior is cozy, with nice decorations. The seats at the tables were cushioned, on the seat and the back rest. I gotta judge a Turkish cafe by their Turkish coffee, plain and simple. I was not disappointed. It was thick, ridiculously hot, and tasted just like the stuff my Turkish friend makes at home. Also had a blueberry muffin. It was pretty standard. Not sure if they made it themselves, but it was good enough. We saw the portion sizes of other items when other tables ordered them, and they were gigantic. Service was a bit lackluster though. I have been going to Marmaris Cafe since they opened couple years ago. Their food and service is insistingly good. They have the most delicious Mediterranean food I have ever tasted. I tried so many different places and I always ended up going back to Marmaris. Every time I go there, I try to order different item on the menu, since they have a big selection of, hot and cold appetizers, things from oven , pastas, grills, and some Turkish specialties. My favorite appetizers are, hummus, eggplant in tomato sauce, kibbeh balls, sigara rolls, and shepherd salad. And for a main dish, I love their whole fish bronzino which is always fresh and a filling amount. It's always delicious and juicy. And my husband usually orders lamb chops and cop shush kebab. Last time, we were there, our waitress recommended us to get shrimp casserole and stuffed fried eggplant for appetizer and a mixed grill for main course. Her suggestions were just on point. We loved the combination and variety of mixed grill. And also their grills serve with a choose of side dish and a side salad which are really filling. Our waitress was very friendly, and service was super fast as always. They don't have a view of Hudson River, however, they have a big parking lot right front of the restaurant which is plus. Because we been going to this restaurant a lot. Manager sent us complimentary Turkish coffee and rice pudding. It was very nice of him that he came to our table and checked if everything was okay. I came here for the kunefe, but the food turned out even better. I really do love Turkish places. We started out with a basket of fresh tasty bread. I was disappointed it wasn't Turkish pide though. Lahmacun - For any cuisine, I love street food the best. My Turkish friend tells me not to get this because it's really overpriced in the US. But I can't help it because it's delicious. Lahmacun is basically ground lamb a thin crisp piece of dough. This was only $4. Much larger and less expensive than the ones in Manhattan. The lamb was full of spice and flavor. Icli Kofte - One of my favorite appetizers to get aside from the lahmacun. They make this really well here. I've had dry and bland ones before, but the ground lamb in this was moist with a crispy outside. Acili Ezme - I was not a fan of this. I thought it would be more tomatoey, but it tasted mostly like raw peppers. It wasn't very spicy either. It's probably great, but I hate raw peppers, so this was not for me. Kuzu Tandir - This was one of their specials. It's a heavy dish, but I highly recommend it. Choose the pureed eggplant over the pilaf. The roasted lamb on top of pureed eggplant was really tender. The eggplant was lighter and had a delicious charred taste. It's ligther than hunkar begendi, which is thicker and more gluey. Too bad I was already really full otherwise I would have eaten a lot more of this. Kunefe - This was actually the reason I came, but I was slightly disappointed with it. The phyllo was soggy when all the other ones I had were crispy. It wasn't as cheesy either. The kunefe was still a delicious dessert, but I've had much better. Overall great Turkish place. If you will order a skirt steake which cost 32$ you will get 7-8 pieces of small (I mean it) steakes inside of mushrooms. The food has always been spot on but lately the service has been terrible and discriminatory. Ever since they've had a new floor manager , there's been a distinct change in the way they serve people who look like I do. The first time around I noticed this was a few weeks ago when the floor manager neither got us water nor the bread for a good 15 mins and this was when we were one of the 2 tables in there at 6 pm on a weekday. The 2nd time was today. He gave everyone a menu except us , and didn't get us any water. When we left telling him how bad the service is; he didn't even pretend to be apologetic and simply said "the restaurant is busy". Well if you're too busy to treat customers the right way, very soon you'll be twiddling thumbs. If the owner is reading this - address the issue before your employees ruin your business. read more

This place is delicious! Had the opportunity to try a few menu items this is definitely the kind of place you want to come with a group of at least 3-4 that way you could order a bunch to share. The chicken shish was so juicy and tender I would've liked a little more flavor but the juiciness makes up for it. The beef kebabs were tiny little beef kebab sticks packed with a punch in yo face of flavor those little sticks were soo good! Apps were great; the kibe was something new for me and I loved it, Shepard salad super fresh, boreks were crispy and cheesy (how they should be) I heard that there is a lady that comes in to cook sometimes and she makes most of the appetizers, she happend to be there when I came and the food tasted great and very authentic The interior looks beautiful but the outside seating looks like it's still being worked on. Definitely one my favorite Mediterranean restaurants around this area. I always order hummus to start-- GET IT. The bread is amaze balls. and the char grilled sea bass as my entree. I personally didn't like the bulgur I prefer the baked potato or rice instead. Orrrrr if you want to be extra healthy double up on salad ! My gf got the shrimp Kebobs and it was fantastic. Definitely recommend. And my bf got a chicken dish that wasn't a kebob and it was okay. I'm not a big fan of saucy things. But this dish was in a mini shallow wok looking thing. Ordering over the phone was honestly a pain, I couldnt pronounce anything on the menu, and had to resort to reading of the descriptions of the food and their locations on the menu over the phone. Picked up the order, luckily everything was correct, and tasted great. The flat bread, basically a super thin personal pizza, the lamb croquette was really flavorful, the feta sticks, awesome, but in my opinion could have been fried a tad longer, they were a bit on the soft side. Everything tasted great, but only 2 major issues were the pricing and the hassle it was to actually order. My issue with the pricing was this. The flat bread, which is the size of a personal pizza is $3.5, the pricing of the stuffed croquette was 9$ and you only get three. for those portions i would honestly expect the prices switched. As delicious as the croquette was 9$ for only three is a bit steep in my book. If it didnt cost 18$ for 2 orders, I would have asked for another serving. Went for Lunch Food - 3/5. Their house salad has fresh, crisp romaine and has a nice light oil and vinegar dressing. The complimentary bread was pretty stale and the taste was pretty obvious that it was old. The Lamb Shish Wrap had a very delicious lamb, but a very minuscule amount of the meat. French fries were great being very crispy. The Chicken Shish Kebab was very dry. I've dined at Marmaris Cafe many times before since their food quality is amazing so I believe they might have had an off day. However, to be quiet honest, the food today was very disappointing. Service - 4/5. Friendly and courteous. I'm not sure how their system works with cashier/waiter positions but it seems only one person was on waiter duty. Despite all that, she was quick with everything we asked for. Value - 3/5. They kind of have a specific lunch menu in that the sandwiches are only available for lunch but I personally think the prices are too high for a sandwich item.
