Larry stated that he probably would not be able to get repaired that day and would that be OK with me. I said sure. Well, at about 3 in the afternoon he called to inform me that it was fixed and ready for pickup. Now, I saw quotes for the high $600's to near $900...my bill was $450! This is just my most recent example of what Supreme Auto has meant to me over the 35 or so years I have been a customer. Isn't that what everyone wants from an auto repair service and mechanic? Quality work, no surprises, fair prices, and above all, peace of mind I would say. Well, Larry and his team at Supreme have it in spades!! Their website home page says: "We take great pride in providing you with the best customer service around. We are honest, dependable and friendly. Our customers are our #1 priority and [we] strive to make each and every customer happy!". That is not just some sound-good, feel-good motto. That is what Larry and his team more than live up to...each and every day! He will make sure that you understand exactly what needs to be done to get you back on the road and running without doing other nice, but not necessary work just to create revenue. A hard-working, honest, old-school, and genuine person who knows his stuff. Go there...you will not be disappointed. Note: I noticed a 1-star reviewer said: "Disrespectful and incompetent. Unable to fix very basic issues." Not having any possible understanding of what the circumstances were with that review(er), I can only say that it stands completely opposed to what I and almost all others have experienced. My sense is that there may have been more to it than what was in the review.

Not only does it have a great reputation for service, they host a Car Show to benefit America's Vet Dogs each year in which the donations are given to this charity. The charity raises service dogs for veterans and first responders with PTSD. They give back to the community and hold the charity close to their heart. Such a wonderful family and shop. Choosing a new auto shop is a difficult task. I know very little about cars, and it seems like…read morealmost everything related to cars is very unfriendly to women, or maybe to people in general. So I looked on Yelp to find a place in the area that had good reviews. Pleasant Street Auto only had two reviews, but they also took the time to post their own description. And, I liked the range of photos (I'll admit that I was a bit charmed by the photo of someone spray-painting a dinosaur) and the notion that there would be a place to sit and do work, comfortably, not literally sitting outside on a curb as I've had to do on occasion in the past. I was not a great customer up front, I'll admit. I completely forgot our first appointment, and then I became lost on my way for the remedial appointment. Throughout, the staff was patient and professional with me. I can't say a word about the garage/work area because I never saw it, which felt a little odd, but I could certainly get used to it! I don't have the slightest idea what the machines and tools are for, anyway, and so I don't know that seeing and hearing mechanics work really enhances my experience. Instead, I left my car and keys and waited inside. The front desk manages repair work, body work, and also Hertz rentals. When I made my oil change appointment, I was a little worried that I might have a serious issue discovered, and I might therefore need to rent a car. If this had been necessary, I could have managed it all at one location. Convenient! The oil change didn't seem to take all that long. I should have timed it, but I didn't. I think the total wait - even though I was late for my appointment, was well under an hour. During that time, I tried to take advantage of the homey waiting area with a t.v. (though the cable was stutteringly-intermittent), WIFI that didn't seem to work at all, and computers with internet service that required someone to come in and fix it for it to work at all. The computers were kind of old, dodgy, and dirty, but I was able to do some work, which was great. For families, there are toys and books (for kids and adults) and an area for children to hang out and play. I can only imagine that, since the space is open and adjacent to the desk area, it's not much fun for staff when the space gets "active," but it's very nice an accommodating. Overall, this is a huge leap over sitting on a solitary chair in a drafty space next to a noisy garage, or as said, literally sitting on a curb because there's no indoor seating at all. The best bit was that Lee, I believe a member of the family who runs this business, came out to speak with me personally while they were finishing up with the car. He spoke with me in language that I could understand, but not with condescension. There were a number of potential issues with the car, and he prioritized them for me, but he didn't make me feel pressured in any way. I feel like Yelp helped me to find a great fit for a new auto shop, and it's a great relief. I'd highly recommend this establishment to anyone who wants to feel confident about a family-run business that is professional, caring, and extremely well-rounded in terms of services available at a single location. With comfort, too! Great, great experience overall.

We brought our vehicle to People's Auto for a couple issues before taking a long road trip, one of…read morewhich was a spongy brake pedal. The mechanics bled the brake system, and it felt somewhat better, so we assumed the issue was fixed and went on our way. This vehicle was new to us at the time, so we weren't sure what the brakes should normally feel like. During the trip we noticed pulsating when braking, so when we got home we brought it to another local shop closer to our home to change the pads and rotors. We were then informed that the rotors needed to be changed as expected, and also that our caloper bolts were loose and that some washers were missing, to the point where brake fluid was squirting out all over 1 of the wheels. This definitely should have been caught by People's Auto when they were diagnosing the issue of the spongy brake pedal. Since they did not fix the issue the money we paid them was a waste, and we had to pay another shop to fix the same issue. Due to their location it was not convenient for us to return to People's Auto to try to have them resolve the issue, but even if we did the wait time for our initial appointment was 2 weeks.

I was at wits and wallets end when I came accross People's Auto…read more The 1999 Jetta I bought in college has had some problems over the years. The worst of it was when I first got the car. At one point it would randomly turn off, and not turn back on for a couple of minutes. Sometimes it just wouldn't start. The engine started to become shakey and hesitant. I tried a variety of shops; some would get it running for a little while, but the problems would return. They all charged a lot, and did very little. After the VW dealer wanted hundreds just for the parts to replace my oil tray (not including oil, oil change, labor or 'glue') I started really digging in to find speciality VW shops. Arriving at People's auto, I was skeptic to say the least. The garage is in the woods (fairly inconvenient) and may lack 'curb appeal'. My hesitation flew out the window when I started to describe some of my problems. "Oh, I know exactly waht that is" was the response (as opposed to the blank stares I had been growing used to in mechanics) turns out, it was just an adjustment to my 02 sensor, and new spark plugs. He replaced the oil tray, gave me a tune up and a once over, all for less than buying the tray at the VW dealership. I picked up the car the next day, and it was running better than the day I bought it. I went to people's auto for the better part of a year every time my car had a slight problem, or needed an oil change (after going there, my car had very few problems... excpet the ones that were clearly my fault). They guys are funny, friendly, fair and most importantly they know what they're doing. While I'm happy at Luis Lein's in somerville... I still day dream about dropping off my car at People's Auto, knowing it would get a once over to prevent future problems. I thought about knocking off a star for the location. I almost got killed by a speeding truck the last time I was there... but honestly, if this place operated at their prices any closer to hartford, I never would have been able to get an appointment.
