Had a heating issue on the coldest day of the year. I've had Mike come out before but this time a different guy was assigned to come take a look. The guy never showed up, and didn't think to let me know until I called him two hours after the scheduled time. He said he had a different issue to check on and that he could come by in the evening. Never showed up or called in the evening either. Kept saying he was on the way when I called him. Would have been great to know if they weren't planning on coming. We had a late night water heater emergency several weeks back that resulted in water spilling out onto our basement floor and no heat or hot water on a frigid 20 degree night. Mike responded to my yelp inquiry quickly, came by that same evening to provide us a temporary fix so that we wouldn't freeze to death, and came back again the following morning once the parts were available to complete the job. It also turned out we had a separate squirrel issue in the attic who was chewing through our HVAC wire upstairs, which Mike fixed that first night in person, and then FaceTimed me two days later to walk me through fixing it again as the squirrel really loves his wires. Mike is timely, dependable, fair-priced, and does good work. All the positive reviews are my experience where he and his team have provided services. The negative reviews of Mike on here are totally odd. First, he's responsive. One time he sent a tech who had an encyclo(wiki)pedic knowledge of A/C to fix an A/C as part of a real estate transaction. The ECM board has failed. Work was priced fairly and done well to close the deal. Over the next 3 years the 15 year old A/C blew 2 capacitors, which he replaced both times quickly the morning I called. Eventually the compressor went at 17 years old! He gave me some options to keep using the old R22 A/C or replace it with a new A/C. He told me the exact parts he would use. I challenged him a bit on the brands and recs. I called around. After doing my research, he was spot on. I imagine Mike knew I was checking out options, and still was cool with it all. His price was a good deal compared to other shops, which when I called offered much higher prices. 30% more at others. or they wouldn't simply quote the price for the install Mike recommended. I also live in an affluent town where we residents know that service people charge us more because we live in expensive homes, and Mike did not. He charged me what it cost. A good deal. For those who say he isn't responsive, I literally texted him at 5am to approve the work he pitched when I need to replace my AC compressor and air handler. He was there by 8:10am and the work was done by 5pm. Other shops were BSing me ("about 1.5 days"). Mike is honest and does good work quickly for a fair price. That's the fact. No one else I would call. My take in any bad reviews is there are always bad customers. Call Mike if you are a good customer to service providers. He will deliver. read more

Cannot keep this commitments. Spoke with the call center on Monday to (1/21) seeking to have an electrician look at issues I'd been having in my unit and look at wiring to ensure no issues existed from recent leaks. Michael called me back within 3 minutes and committed to having 2 technicians out at my property at 7am the next day. I stayed home from work to wait for his technicians to show up. Understanding it was cold and lots of emergencies were taking place, I expected them to be busy. I called back at 8am and his call center indicated they'd paged him. 5 more calls to the call center # and no follow-up call. I ended up calling the # Michael called me from and left a voicemail and no answer/or call back. Two days ago, i received a call from another electrician (Leo) asking to come out and do the work because Michael felt bad about not showing up. I said ok, let's give this another try. This electrician committed to coming out on 1/26 at 9am. I texted him at 10am asking if he still planned on coming and he indicated he no longer could as he now had an emergency. Absolutely ridiculous!!! Basic things in life - set expectations you know you can meet or exceed; if you cannot, communicate it to people. Stay away!!!! read more

They use to be a good group to work with but not any more. They did timely work on my house last summer and my family has used them periodically since then. Unfortunately they no longer keep their word when they say they'll work on your project & when you try to connect with them on it, Mike (the owner) gets defensive and has excuses. If you are on a timeline or have a large job you're better served finding someone more reliable as theres a chance they will string you along and throw your timeline off. This team is now hit or miss so while their work is good, you risk them not showing up. If they do show up, you should be fine as they do good work and have good suggestions but you take a risk otherwise. read more

Great experience. Quick and direct communication. Great price, fast, and professional. A friend had mentioned using Keohane for some changes in the house. I called them to do an electrical inspection, add some outlets, add a couple light switches, and some other random things. They came out within a week. The electricians themselves were personable and professional. They answered all my questions and were patient even as we were a little indecisive. We called Mike to come look at our furnace. He came quickly, diagnosed that we needed to replace our igniter, went out to get the necessary part, and then sent a technician who told us that he had replaced it. The furnace fired for about an hour after he left, but then started blowing cold air again. He sent his technician back, determined that we needed to replace the control board, and then claimed to replace that too. He charged us $630 total for the parts and labor. Once again, about an hour after he left, the furnace started blowing cold air again. When I called Mike, he said that we would have to replace the furnace, and he offered to do the work for us, and he could apply what we paid to the cost of the furnace replacement. Before we took him up on that offer, we called another technician (Alborz) to come look at the furnace. The Alborz technician told us that our igniter was old and bad, and after he replaced the igniter, our furnace has worked properly for over a week. I contacted Mike and let him know that since he claimed to do work that had not actually been done (replacing our igniter), we were asking for a refund for that work. He called me back and -- after some back and forth where we called each other liars -- he was verbally abusive to me, called me "not enough of a man to do my own work" (because I said that my wife had been the one to hire the other technician), and then told me "I know where you live." I would not advise anyone to work with Mike. read more

I usually don't write a review but I have to this time. I had a terrible experience with them, terrible and strange! So, I confirmed with them the day before that they were coming to check on our heating/AC the next day. I arranged for our rental agent (as we are out of state and are renting the place out) to meet with them and our neighbor to stay at home as the access to the outdoor unit is through our neighbor's apartment. And the next day they were late by one hour without a call to inform us. We tried to call many times and no body answered and finally they called back and told us that they were delayed but on their way. But that's nothing compared to what happened next! My rental agent had to go so he left our key with our neighbor. So eventually they came. Our neighbor let them in and... they left.....and since then I never heard from them! Not a word about what they found, what they did, if anything was wrong... nothing! I tried to call both his tech and Michael himself and nobody answered. I texted his tech who texted me back saying Michael would be in contact with me and no more answers. I texted Michael and he never replied. They simply vanished, after going to our home and supposedly checking our system. I still don't know what happened and what was wrong with our heating/AC. If they couldn't fix it, at least let me know. It's truly unprofessional and irresponsible! read more

I turned on my heat a few days ago and it wasn't working. I was dreading finding a contractor to fix it seeing as my feeling trustful of most service providers is a stopped-up drain of a process... I ran into another resident at my building who seconded another resident's recommendation of a heating/cooling (& electrical) contractor: Michael Keohane Mr. Keohane arrived today (Saturday morning) 45 minutes after I called him. He quickly diagnosed that my bronze pump had become ineffective as well as discovering that the inner insulation of my blower unit had come unglued and had stopped airflow into my unit. He had a replacement bronze pump in his truck, quickly installed it (my heating returned to excellent function), cheerfully answered my questions and was on his way. My estimation is that he was significantly less costly than if I had used who I had intended to (Central Heating & Cooling Inc. in Woburn). Unlike Michael, my alternate selection's automated attendant said they were closed and that I could get service today only as an emergency service call. According to another review here on Yelp, they charge $130 to come out and diagnose during a standard visit. I would surmise that emergency service would be considerably more expensive. Michael did not charge me a diag fee. That alone made the repair far less painful to my wallet while being a serious relief, not only for getting it resolved in minutes, but for not having to take time off from work to get the repair done. Ohh, if only all contractors were as stellar, having home breakdowns would be elevated, almost, to a pleasant inconvenience. read more

Finding high quality technicians in Somerville is not easy, but once you do, you hang on to them. That's our story with Mike and his team. He did his first job for me in 2012 when I needed my boiler replaced in the dead of winter. Even though a boiler replacement is a relatively standard job, his professionalism and efficiency are what stuck with me. Since then the rest of the members of our condo association have used him for various jobs. I've even called Mike for help with a plumbing job. Although Mike doesn't do them, he recommended a plumber who did a fantastic job. The most recent was to fix our intercom system. One of Mike's technicians, Ricky, came out to diagnose the issue with our aging system, and was back the next day with the correct replacement part and had it working. "A-OK" to use Yelp's 3-star description. Great: Very fast response, and showed up the next day right on time. Completed all the work I asked, and I haven't had any trouble with what they did. $650 for two electricians from 7:30-12:30 (or, electrician and assistant?). I only got a very rough estimate/guess beforehand; this was about double that, but I also didn't ask for a detailed estimate, and some of the changes I asked for turned out to be fairly complicated because existing wiring had clearly not been done by an electrician. They didn't do any patching, which I gather is fairly typical. The one hole they left was pretty minimal -- a little large for spackle, but I was able to make do. Could be better: No receipt; I forgot to ask for one, but it'd be nice to have a clear picture of where the cost had come from. Their routing for new wires also could be improved in two cases: first they were going to drop a new wire from the attic but ran into blocking after having already cut the outlet hole, but they'd forgotten that I'd pointed out a closer outlet to route from; and second they didn't have a good solution to get a new circuit to the 2nd floor (or 3), but I found myself that it was relatively easy to route between joists to a stairwell and then to the basement. Last, they didn't have some tools I'd expect: flashlights/headlamps (I lent them a lantern so they wouldn't have to use their phone flashlights in the attic), or a flex-shaft drill (to get through aforementioned blocking, or go through one stud rather than carving a channel in drywall to get around it). read more

I had a very strange electrical problem with dimming lights or not working, gas boiler not turning on due to not getting electric signal. With freezing temperatures I called Micheal Keohane in panic. I called them at 7:30AM and spoke to Micheak Keohane directly. He said they will be there at 8AM. A very personable electrician named Guy was there at 7:50AM! Guy was a joy to watch as he brilliantly did rapid troubleshooting of the problem and within minutes diagnosed it. He fixed the problem entirely in under and hour and we had working electricity and heat. He took time throughout the job to explain every thing and answer every question I asked. At the end of the job he even took time to indulge our questions about the company and his employer. He gave very positive feedback on working for this owner operated company. They do both electrical work as well as boilers and furnace work. This is specially good when you do not know what is causing the heater to not work. When I called about a repair for my air conditioner, Michael was not only able to service my house within half an hour of calling, but was also able to find and fix the problem right away! I'm in love. My mother has been in the hospital for over a week and I have been staying at her house because I live out of state as do her grandchildren and her sister. I discovered the central air wasn't working anymore. We got it operating briefly but it died again today. It was 87 degrees, I'd slept in a cot at hospital with my mother night before. Coming back to "relax" in the heat was impossible. He came out on a very hot Memorial Day weekend, responding about 10 minutes after I called Sunday night. He was at my mother's house within an hour, quickly diagnosed the problem left very briefly to get the necessary part and magic! The First time working with this guy was very good. Nice guy did a good job. But the second time was really disappointing. When I have thing need to be fix and I text him if he available to do it. He said yes. I have appointments with him early morning the next day. but never show up. I try to call him but never pick up. Keep me waiting 1hr with my urgent job. Where do I begin! Things started off solid, we received a prompt response from Michael and his team and they came over to evaluate the issues with our heating system. They came back a second time with a part that was ordered, and at nobody's fault, it didn't do the trick. We then scheduled a third visit, and I was flexible throughout the week and tried to work around their busy schedules. We then nailed down an exact date/time, and I stayed home from work. I proceeded to wait the ENTIRE DAY for them to show up. After multiple calls/texts to both Michael and his partner, I was completely ignored. After relentless follow-up the following day, Michael acted as if we had never solidified a date/time. He neglected to apologize or hold himself accountable. Regardless of the scheduling error, as a service provider, he found it OK to completely ignore me throughout the day. I felt very disrespected. He then told me to find someone else and ask that I stop harassing him via text. Michael runs his business like an absolute child. I highly discourage anyone from using him.
