My usual doctor is Dr. Taylor and he is awesome! I honestly don't even live close by anymore but I refuse to go anywhere else because I can't imagine a better experience than I have here. Extremely knowledgable--Dr. Lum was able to answer all my questions, even some pretty technical ones regarding my eye. Very good. Getting my eyes checked was so smooth. Good selection of frames too. Anyways, the real 5 stars comes from Nick. So I get there, knocked on the door, a woman answers and says that they closed at 5 that day :( MEGA bummer. I tell her I'm going to be out of town for the next week. She kindly apologizes and explains how there's no body to help me. Which makes sense, i mean they're CLOSED. So I'm walking out to my car & disappointed I won't have glasses for the upcoming week when I hear my name called. Turns out Nick (who was off of work!) had heard I was there to pick up glasses! I had my prescription done by Dr Taylor and ordered the progressive lenses (expensive!) at their Optometry department. And... it didn't work. My eyes are tricky and require a pretty complicated prescription. In a week after I received my glasses I called to let them know that I am not happy with my new glasses. Another appointment was scheduled and Dr. Taylor went through the whole examination again trying to see how to work it out. Then Nick from the Optometry spent another hour figuring how to adjust the dividing lines and the centers of my progressive lenses to make sure it works the best for me. Everyone was very courteous and patient with me. I received my new lenses today and am very happy with how and what I can see . I do understand that sometimes with complicated vision issues it is hard to get the right prescription the first time around but it means a lot when people helping you are ready to go the extra mile. I hate getting my eyes checked, but they made it painless. The assistants and doctors are friendly and patient. I went in to try contacts for the first time and apparently my eyes are especially difficult because I have an astigmatism in both eyes and finding the right contacts that won't rotate is ridiculously impossible. Dr Judkins saw me 3 times for over a half an hour trying on different contacts (we went through 8 different ones) and kept reassuring me that it was ok when I took forever to put them in. I also did get my glasses prescription from her, and I think I may just have to stick with that route. They send you a Starbucks card when you refer someone (although I never received mine). I docked 1 star just because their frames are a bit pricey. read more

Going into this office I was a bit nervous because I didn't have the best experiences at the last couple places I've been, so I assumed all were like that. When I got there everyone was so warm and welcoming I already knew this would be better than other places. Even though my husband kinda messed up our appointment they were super nice about it and made sure we were able to be seen. I saw Dr. Albert Chang, he was super nice and made me feel very comfortable. Instead of rushing through my appointment and making me feel like I was asking stupid questions (like the last Dr I saw) he was very thorough and explained everything he was doing and what it meant. Come to look at the office selection I was greeted by a very friendly staff as soon as I entered the office. I told them I was only looking and that I had my prescription from another location. The girls were Super nice and they had an optician work with me quickly I didn't have to wait at all. Totally loved that because I had so many questions. The optician was knowledgeable, friendly and was able to answer all my questions and concerns. His name was Ulysses. We looked at different styles and after he asked a few questions about what I liked he quickly had a great selection for me to tryout. I loved them all! He guided me for better fit and something that would worked with my expectations. He knew the styles so well even had a little story behind the different pieces we had been looking at. I loved that because I like to know what I'm buying. Plus I can brag to my friend about it LOL... I found the pair I was looking for a beautiful Barton Pereira frame. Dr. Lum was excellent very knowledgeable, and easy to talk too! It was my first time in and I told them that I was having a medical emergency. I just found them on the VSP.com website, looked at the reviews and I hoped they would be able to take me in as a new patient. I initially decided to book an appointment with the office based on my interaction with the receptionist. She was incredibly friendly, patient and understanding. An excellent representation of the office. My appointment with Dr. Low was thorough and he is generally concerned with his patients' well-being and eye health. He helped me make the best decisions for my eyeglass and contact needs, while working within budget, rather than trying to sell me a product that is more expensive or beyond my needs. I ordered a second pair of glasses 3 months after the first pair and was given the wrong prescription. Then I was told that my prescription was correct; it had just been updated. Updated by whom? I found out later that one of the employees changed my prescription; an employee that was not a doctor, and this did not follow an eye check. I was never told why this happened. They ordered a new pair of lenses for me, but after waiting three weeks, I went to pick them up to find out they were the same incorrect prescription. I was promised a third, correct pair, would be ordered and in within one week. This was over three months ago. I have given up ever getting this corrected and will definitely not be going back here ever again. read more

Very unpleasant and unprofessional people. Especially those guys, from costumer service! I wanted to come to the center for my eye exam, after I moved from Sacramento, but could not get an answers. Frontiers and call center have no answers not at all..I was wondering if my insurance would cover all services. One girl answered yes, second transferred my call to another person, who answered that will not be covered, then she left me on hold and I was waiting for her for 30 minutes. At last my husband English native speaker called them back. Even he was not able to get an answer. Honestly, this is the best experience I've ever had at a healthcare clinic. From the moment you walk in, you're greeted by professionals. People actually care about their patients and want you to have a great experience. I was assisted by Stephanie during the preliminary testing, and she was super sweet and kind. Dr. Chang Assisted me and he was truly great. He really cares about the comfort of your eyes , contact fittings etc. During the whole exam, he was really attentive and made sure I could see clearly. All the follow ups from the visit were amazing as well. The clinic does a great job of doing follow ups and gives me a call to let me know to come in for follow up visits to make sure everything is fitting correctly with my contact lenses. First time getting an eye examination and it was an excellent experience. The staff were very friendly and courteous. I waited approximately 5 minutes until the assistant came and took me in to do some eye examination tests. I also waited no longer then 5 minutes for the doctor to come and see me in the room. Two people recommended this place to me, so I went last week and loved it! I had an appointment with Dr. Judkins, who I think is the newest addition to their team. She was very professional and friendly, and she did a great job explaining everything to me. All the staff (from the front desk to the technicians to the doctor to the guy who helped me pick glasses at the end) were very friendly and helpful. Their services are both phone and online friendly (i.e. you can choose to get an email or phone reminder about your appointments). It looks like they have an ok selection of glasses in my opinion. I haven't bought my new pair yet because none of the frames stuck out to me but I did see a couple that I thought were ok so... we'll see if I find "the one" when I go to my follow up appointment next time. read more

I've been going here for my eye care ever since I've been in the bay area (2002) as it was near my full time job at the time and as I was recommended by another co-worker. I have seen probably two to three different doctors since I've been a patient there (due to my hectic schedule) and they have all been professional, friendly, and get the job done right. I stick with this center because they have Saturday appointments, b/c the staff is great (and with my busy schedule, i could see any doctor if needed), and b/c it works. I really feel genuinely greeted by all the staff, from the front desk, to the technician that does the preliminary eye tests, to my doctor, to the other optometry staff. I feel everything has been explained to me, options are given to me, and there is no pressure - which I need b/c I tend to be indecisive about my lenses, i like to compare costs, and due to my not so great insurance (MES) I've actually gone to Costco with my prescription to get lenses/sunglasses -which the benefit of that..is they don't give me the evil eye (no pun intented) for doing so. So for me, it works to at least get my eye exam and then decide which course of action is best for my pocketbook. Of course they've educated me on the quality differences; but, before when I had VSP, I always purchased my lenses through Family EyeCare. They have a good selection of lenses and contact lenses and have great in-house specials and as I learned recently, if you "like" them on FaceBook - there are times they have give-a-ways and/or special discounts, etc. My current doctor is Dr. Kamalsky and she's absolutely fabulous. Short story: in getting older, you know how you think the last time you wore contacts wasn't that long ago, like 5-6 yrs ago, and in fact was like, 1998/1999? yah. that was me, so, with my contact fitting, I had to re-learn how to even take the contact out, how to put it in, and I was pretty much acting worse than a 5 y/o ;p (I think the tweens next to me doing their contact fitting could put their contacts in and out better than I could!) and Dr. Kamalsky was very patient, kind and encouraging through it all. YES! This place is AMAZING from beginning to end! My entire life I have struggled to find a prescription that ends my focusing struggles. FINALLY the doctor here was able to find that I had a muscle imbalance. I'm not sure why no one else was incapable of finding this but all that matters is I have found her now! I just went to Dr. Julia Lee was the first time and had a fantastic experience. She really cares that I get the right prescription and wasn't just interested in selling me something, which is the experience I have had at other places. I was pleasantly surprised. She also took notes on what I said and remembered when I came back a second time. Very impressed! She had to tweak my prescription several times to get it right, and she was very efficient. Dr. Chang is a very attentive optometrist, who takes pride on his expertise and excellent customer service. While examining the results of the routine tests, he showed me what a person with Macular degeneration or glaucoma would see, which helps me understand and potentially self diagnose symptoms in the future. Take a look at his computer screen savers, a testament of attention to detail in his practice. He also takes the time to answer all my questions and I never felt rushed out of the office. He also respects the time of his busy working professional patients and doesn't keep you waiting, allowing one to fit an appointment in a packed schedule. He's knowledgeable and practical and has a great selection of UV sunglasses, but was kind enough to test my own glasses to see if they offered the right level of protection, which they did. I've been going here for a long time. My doctor moved away recently, and his replacement was ok. Most recently, I got some pretty shabby service from the eye glass people there. The guy who has been there the longest told the lady waiting on me to adjust my frames, that the frames I bought could not be adjusted. He listened from the back room, like waiting for me to object. Weird. Then when the office called me to remind of my upcoming appt., she got snotty when I told her I would bring my insurance info when I came in. In a very nasty tone she reminded me, "That the appointment would cost $130.00!" OOH, gee. (If she had checked my records she would have known I was on Medicare, and had been going to her for 10 years or so. So, screw um. I have been going to Dr. Wan at Family Eye Care Center for 25 years. I was referred to the center by a friend who felt they were the best. I have to agree. Over the years, I've always received exceptional service from the office staff, technical staff, and Dr. Wan. I wear contact lenses as well as eyeglasses. Dr. Wan has made adjustments as my eyes have changed over the years. During my annual exams, he is thorough and explains changes and any issues I may be having at the time. We have often changed the types of contacts I use to accommodate the changes in my eyes, and I've always been happy with the results. My vision was bad even as a child, and as a young adult I remember being fearful of the fact that, if it was that bad then, what would it be by the time I was forty? Fortunately, I started going here in my early 30s, and because Dr. Wan has always been so conscientious and thorough, I don't worry about that anymore. I have confidence in him and in his skill and experience, and I know he is making sure that I am doing what is best for my eyes. The office staff may have changed over the years, but whether I am dealing with a newer person or someone who has been there for years, I get the feeling they receive a lot of training. They all seem to have a good customer service background. They are friendly, and the office seems well-managed. In 25 years, I have yet to be kept waiting. The technicians and assistants who assist with the preliminary tests have also changed over the years, but they have always seemed well-trained and helpful. Even the section dealing with eyeglasses seems above average to me. Although I only occasionally buy glasses, since I mostly wear contacts, I do go in frequently just to have my glasses and sunglasses adjusted. They are often quite busy, but I've never had to wait long and they are always helpful. My sister drives from Santa Cruz to go to Dr. Wan. It's quite a drive from where she lives, and she could go to someone locally, but she has some special concerns and feels he is the best. Plus, my mom moved to this area a few years ago, and she also goes to Dr. Wan. Any time anyone asks me if I know of a good eye doctor, I highly recommend Dr. Wan and the Family Eye Care Center.. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Wan for about 20+ years. Dr. Wan and his office are often involved with new research for contact lenses as well as have a close relationship with eye surgeons. I've been coming here for nearly a dozen years. Dr Tuan and the staff have provided excellent service and expertise. I especially like how much time she'll take to answer questions about eye health and how your eyes and eyesight will change over time, how to manage the change in prescriptions, contacts vs glasses, if/when to switch to bifocals, etc. Recently I wanted to try contacts and she gave me several different kinds and types to try. And if none of those worked, she said to come back and she'll give me several more to try, all complimentary until we found the perfect set. my son was playing with sand and some sand got into his eyes. I tried clening his eyes but for 4/5 days his eye swelling was not going away. After 5 days I was really worried and started calling for appointments. When I called Family Eyecare, after knowing our urgency they immediately accommodated us. Our doctor rinsed my son's eye. Explained every thing to me and my son. Basically took care of our issue. Also after 5 days called me to know how my son is doing. OK, this is not Costco, it's a full price eye care center and optical boutique. But here's what you get instead of basement prices: great comprehensive eye care and above-and-beyond customer service. I've been coming to Family Eye Care since the late 1980's, first for myself, and then my family. During that time, I was seen by Dr. Ross, Dr. Wan, and now Dr. Chang. Anyway, Dr. Chang is new at the clinic, and I was placed in his care when Dr. Wan retired early this year (2016). We hit it off immediately, although I haven't had the chance to tell him about my hobbies that include expensive glass (astronomy and photography). That will be for future visits. However, I mention my interest in fine optics to emphasize that I'm really picky about my eyes and glasses. Just ask Dr. Wan - he put up with me for the longest so far. So, on my first visit with Dr. Chang, I needed new refractions for both my general use glasses and my computer glasses. I've been suffering from loss of adaptability for a while now (just wait, you'll get there sooner or later), and have progressive lenses in both sets of glasses. The computer glasses are the trickiest to get right, because I hate switching glasses all the time at work. I want the computer glasses to work everywhere from reading my paper on my desk, staring at my three screens, and seeing whiteboards in meetings. Tall orders. However, Dr. Chang got the balance right for lens gradients on the first try. Peer through the upper edges to see the whiteboards, big sweet spot in the middle for the screens, and the lower edge is fine for up close viewing. They're probably the best set of computer glasses I've ever had. I highly recommend this clinic. They have kept up their high standards for many decades, and I hope to continue with them for many more. read more
