I've been going to family eye care for about 20 years. I've been dissatisfied with the eyeglass department for most of it. I became dissatisfied with the optometrist a couple of years ago. I finally switched!! I knew my prescription was wrong on the last pair of glasses I got. I went back twice to question it, but I was told it was correct. I then went to Stanford optometry and know I was right. Not only was the prescription on one eye flat out wrong, I wear progressives, and the placement was improper. Unfortunately Stanford doesn't take VSP so I need to find a new provider. read more

Dr. Chang is wonderful. Last year I had sinus surgery. The Surgical team forgot to tell me during the pre-op that I would not be able to wear my glasses for several weeks.I had worn contact lenses before, but had not been comfortable in them for many years. My nose was also too fragile for a standard eye exam. I was amazed that Dr. Chang was able to fit me with contacts and attain a close to perfect prescription. I could then work! A few weeks later, after my nose had healed some I returned to have a formal assessment and finalize out the prescription. Today I actually prefer contacts to glasses. Kind, compassionate, caring and extremely competent, I highly recommend Dr. Chang. read more

this is the first time i visited family eyecare, Dr Julia Lee did my eye examination, the waiting time is short - align with my appointment, the examination went well and smooth, very profession with good communication; I highly recommend Dr Lee and Family Eyecare Center. the down side? the lenses and frame is not cheap there. but you have a choice do the eyeglasses elsewhere, no pressure attached. read more

Dr. Chang got me in last minute on a Saturday because I was almost out of contacts and my prescription had expired. From start to finish, my experience was fantastic. The front desk was really efficient at getting my insurance and paperwork in order. Dr. Change didn't keep me waiting and even let me know about some issues he saw that could seriously affect me when I get older. No other optometrist has ever even mentioned things like that. My husband and I live in San Francisco but enjoy traveling all the way to Campbell just to get our eyes checked by Dr. Chang. He is very attentive to our needs and has all our information in stock. He was able to reorder my contact lenses quickly and efficiently! My husband was able to pick out some new frames to replace his super old nerdy ones. I am looking for an optometrist near where I live, Campbell and I came across Family Eyecare Center via Google search. So I called Family Eyecare Center and the receptionist name Luise answered the phone. I asked her how much would it cost to get an eye exam for contact lenses without insurance. She took a few seconds and told me as a new customer I would have to pay $98 instead of $145 for the exam and $68 for contact lenses eye exam. I told her I only want my eye exam for contact lenses why do I need the eye glasses (I already have one) she told me I have to pay $164 total for my eye exam if I want contact lenses (it should be $166 BTW). I told her I already have an eye glasses. "This is how we do business here" she said. I then I told her it was a bit too much for me. I said thanks for your help. What got me really upset was that at the end she told me "Well you get what you're paying for" WTF !!!. I was really nice to her over the phone. She does not have to be like that (a BITCH) So I skipped this place and look else where. You should too. If I can give 1/2 star I would. read more

I have never been to an eye doctor before, but I must say that Dr. Lum and his staff treated me like a lifelong patient. Dr. Lum is outgoing and funny and the same goes for his front office; I felt very comfortable. Not to mention, they did a very thorough checkup and asked lots of questions. With some doctors I feel like I'm holding a number at the DMV, but not with Dr. Lum. He is now my eye doctor until he retires. read more

Moved from SF to San Jose and needed an optometrist. Went to a couple of docs who were less than impressive. They were just going through their routine - - an exam w/ barely any "eye contact" nor interest in my vision history. I was referred to Family Eye Care Center by a couple of people. I can't recommend Dr. Wan highly enough. He is extremely thorough. He has been my optometrist for 6 years now. KEY: a couple of months ago my eyes were a little red for a few days, then I awoke on a Sat. morning and my eyes were like raw hamburger meat. RED, teary, etc. He had me come in right away, and did multiple tests to diagnose the problem. He had me come in 2x/week for a couple of weeks, and even checked on me via text after the problem resolved just to make sure there was no recurrence nor problems. I learned Optometrists are not just for writing prescriptions for glasses/contacts. They can prescribe medicine for ocular conditions, and diagnose ocular disorders/diseases and treat them. Drs. Wan and Tuan (partner) are so highly regarded within their specialty that they are given the newest technologies to assess before they are (or aren't) released to the mass market. Again - I highly recommend Dr. Wan (and Dr. Tuan). If you're looking for exceptional vision care, go "see" them! read more

Dr Chang is an excellent doctor and a very nice person. Dr. Ross is good too. They earn 5 stars from me. The location and parking is excellent. The office clean and nicely decorated. The 3 stars are for the office staff because: (1) The wrong type of prescription was ordered due to a clerk's misunderstanding of what I wanted. Because of the mix-up, I was charged more money for a different type of lens than what I wanted. Although, I appreciate that the 2 clerks were nice about it and reordered new lenses quickly. (2) More recently, my request for a contact order was not filled until I double checked on it 2 weeks later. I had to wait 4 weeks to receive contacts and had to do without until then. When they finally arrived, I asked to verify if the RX was correct. The contact staff person did not, and was was a bit rude about it. (3) Lastly, a while ago my new sunglasses arrived scratched. Replacement lenses were re-ordered and arrived quickly. When I went in for pick-up, they would not give them to me unless I brought the frame back into the store with me. (Maybe there was a safety issue with that, but it was not explained.) read more

I found Family Eyecare just based on reviews and insurance providers when I first moved here 2.5 years ago, and I'm so glad I did! I have had more eye issues in that time than in my previous 30 years combined. Family Eyecare is fantastic. Everyone is super friendly and helpful. I see Dr. Chang, but have occasionally had to see other doctors as well. I have only positive things to say about everyone I have met there. From regular yearly eye checks to corneal ulcers, scratches to lasik pre and post op appointments, I would highly recommend Dr. Chang and everyone else to anyone who needs an eye doctor!
