The place was very clinical in their procedures. I had a 3:40 appointment and was taken back at 3:45 for my eye exam. They took some pictures and ran some other tests. I then had about 10 minutes with the actual doctor who talked me through my results and his diagnosis. Very little waiting involved. I then went to the glasses area where a person explained to me what my insurance covers and what will be out of pocket. I'm assuming they were reasonable prices, but I really don't have a clue. The only reason for 4 stars and not 5 is that I felt like cattle being herded from one place to the next. It wasn't bad, but it just felt very sterile. It would have been nice to have had at least a cursory conversation as I picked out frames just to bounce ideas off of. read more

I've been going here for over 11years. But I bought some glasses haven't even had them for over 2 years yet maybe a little over a year. They broke on me & I had to pay $60 to get them fixed . I think I paid almost $300 for the glasses . I would think they would at least offer me $30 discount for a new pair . I just believe in good customer service especially for a customer that has been with you for a very long time. read more

TWICE NOW my husband has brought a frame to them to get new lenses, and today is the 2nd time they have called to let us know that the lab said there is a crack in the frame and they said they checked them before they sent them out and there was no crack ! These frames are not cheap as the are safety frames for work! Total Vision takes no responsibility at all so now we have to buy yet another frame to replace them and drop them off and they will send them to the lab to get the lens put in! This is ridiculous and we regret giving them a 2nd chance ! Shame on them and us for our loyalty! Way to go TV! You lost a valuable customer. !! read more

What an amazing day I had at Total Vision located at 7090Parkway Dr. Ste. A, LA Mesa, CA 91942. I had a 10 am. appointment for an eye examination. I was checked in by a welcoming woman at the front desk. She made it simple and fast to get checked in. My exam was done by Annie, Angela and Mark. They were very friendly and professional, which made me feel like family. This had to be one of my best experiences at an optometry office. I appreciated all of their suggestions in which frames to buy. It was a tough decision, but I think we made the right choice that looked good on me. I'm looking forward to picking them up in 7 to 10 days to begin wearing them. I overall give Total Vision a perfect 5 stars . I finally had to break down and get glasses. I had four separate pairs of readers on my desk and I was constantly changing them out in an effort to stay focused on my computer screen. Total Vision La Mesa and Dr. Y came recommended by of all people a Costco employee friend. The examine was very thorough and not at all rushed. Dr. Y is a young, smart doctor who made me feel confident that I had come to the right place. The staff peeps, from the front desk receptionist (she was probably much more than just that) greeted me with a big smile and I had at least three staff members helping me pick just the right frames. Made appointments last night for myself and my spouse. They now ask for copies of your drivers license and medical info not related to vision insurance. I said no. Then we canceled my appointment because they were running WAY late and some guy comes out and says "thanks for fitting me in lol. We then canceled the second appointment because they still weren't ready to take spouse. Might need to look for another dr. They clearly overbooked the morning. Do not under any circumstances visit this office. The office does not clean their equipment adequately, and I contracted a painful infectious eye condition after my appointment. Many medical office reviews focus on how welcoming the front staff is or how stylish the office is. None of that is worth even thinking about if basic rules of hygiene are not met at the office. I was a very long time patient of Dr. Vidal's, over 25 years. Today I had my first appointment with Dr. Yeghiazarian (goes by Dr. Y) now that Dr. Vidal has retired from the practice. It was a real pleasure meeting Dr. Y and I look forward to many more years of working with him. I've always found all the staff friendly, efficient, and willing to answer all my questions and concerns. I particularly appreciated Dr. Y taking the time during my exam to review my previous and latest retinal scans with me on the computer, that was really interesting and enlightening. I've had many hard and soft contact lens as well as glasses exams and fittings there. I have been extremely happy with the quality of vision I've had as a result in all cases for as long as I've been working with them. Following up on my last visit... Now that I'm getting older I got my first pair of computer/reading bifocals a couple of weeks ago, and they are wonderful. Perfect for both using my computer as well as reading my iPad in bed. Before, I'd have to put my distance glasses at the end of my nose. Yesterday I picked up new hard contact lenses, and they are also perfect. I can't recommend them enough. read more

I have been going here for years, but since the original eye doctore retired (staff seams to be the same) this place has ZERO follow up with clients. I have to keep calling to check and see where my glasses are, then they make a lie, then on the second call (for this year) they don't have an answer and they are going to call me right back with a tracking number, it is now the next day and no word on the tracking number. You would be better off going to a big chain retailer. "I'm sorry, the frame was defective to they had to re do the lenses" ... I said what? If you're looking for a new optometrist or just a great optical center in general, look no further!! I was overdue for an eye exam, plus had new vision insurance, so did some research before booking my appointment with 20/20 Vision Center. Overall I had a great experience - and I'm very impressed with the pleasant and professional staff there. For starters, Dr. Y was phenomenal!! He really took his time with me to provide a comprehensive exam, which I appreciated. (I've had other experiences elsewhere that felt "rushed", and that was definitely not the case with him.) He was careful to explain his findings, and discussed tips to help with my general eye health. Following the exam, I then spent a good amount of time checking out their amazing selection of frames (they really do have A LOT to choose from - so I was admittedly that crazy lady who tried on probably 30+ frames, and spent a ridiculous amount of time there - but that's on me and my indecisiveness ‍). Annie was the primary one assisting me on my quest to find the perfect new pair , and she was so sweet & helpful. Other members of the team were also there to help when Annie needed to step away for her lunch break, and everyone was really patient and helpful with me (as I struggled to make up my mind).... When it was all said and done, I made my pick and got that order all squared away, and left with some other goodies to improve my overall eye health & help with some other minor concerns (occasional eye dryness / redness). They called me a little over a week later when my glasses were ready for pick up - and they're perfect!! Dr. Y literally saved my sight in one eye. During a dodgeball game a ball went directly into my eye, and a curtain seemed to draw over half of it. It went away quickly so I didn't think much of it. Luckily, my usual checkup was later that week. When Dr. Y asked if anything out of the ordinary happened since my last checkup I initially said no, since I thought it was nothing. But I trust this Dr enough to finally just mention the dodgeball incident. He immediately took me in for my eye exam, and realized I had torn my cornea. I got surgery and everything worked out. But if Dr. Y wasn't so attentive, or if he wasn't so trustworthy I wouldn't have said anything and most likely lost all vision in one eye. I'd make this a ten star review if I could read more

WOW!!!!! I randomly brought my 7 year old to this place as I was referred here by my insurance company and I could not be happier with the care we received!! Dr. Y was phenomenal with my son, he was kind, friendly and patient; he alleviated any anxiety my son and I had about completing the vision test immediately with his down to earth demeanor and playful rapport. totally agree with others that the front desk is shady. i have had exams here for several years now & noticed these shady tactics. i called to reorder contacts & they told me i could not because my prescription had expired. i didn't have the time to come in for exam due to work but i did nonetheless because i really needed new contacts only to find out that my prescription was not going to expire for another 2 months. that's very manipulative so they can bill my insurance. i had an issue also with my last exam where the over billed me & gave me some lame excuse blaming me. i'm over this place. update: when i called to reorder contacts they absolutely told me my prescription had expired & i had to be re-examined. That was a lie to get me in there for an exam. i have every right to reorder contacts with a valid prescription which i did elsewhere. i have been a contact lenses wearer for most of my life so i don't buy your "fit" excuse for denying the ability to repurchase another box of lenses. That is why i am upset & think that your front office is shady. read more

It was east to pick a frame with Annie. The other young lady at the front t desk was also attentive. Very poor customer service. My daughter has had many problems getting her order filled and delivered. I left a message for the doctor to call me when he had time, and instead his manager called. My message was specifically to speak to the doctor. With the run-around my daughter has been dealing with, I thought it would be best just to speak directly to the doctor/owner. Hopefully the contacts will finally be ordered, attempt #3, and we can find a new optical center to use in the future. read more

Terry, the office manager, is as rude, out of touch and condescending as they come. Not only did my exam get messed up because they made the mistake of not telling the doctor I needed a contact exam as well as a lense exam, they also gave me frames that were badly scratched. Yes, they offered to fix it but I have an injury that makes it so it's very hard to drive which is why this complication was extra frustrating. In addition to this, my prescription is way too strong and different than my contact prescription. This has lead to headaches and is also very unprofessional. The doctor rushed me through the exam and was not thorough with me. The whole thing was cringe worthy and uncomfortable. Terry hovered around me while I tried on glasses and was just not pleasant. The office is really awkward, in a busy hard to find area. I wish I had gone to a different place. read more

Made an appointment to get my eyes checked as I was having issues focusing. Long story short, Dr l. Vidal saw me and said I was far sighted. Said I needed glasses to read and to drive. Also, said I needed another test so they good have a record of my eyes which was not covered by my insurance. THis was another $50. Told him I didn't want it. He said he needed it. Great! Then when I get to the glasses, they ladies are super helpful but seems that they help you get the most expensive ones and add this and add that. The total out of pocket was $300. Wow! I wanted some cheap glasses but no, they said I needed progressive and some reflective addition to them and the name brand ones looked good (which by the way, the selection of glasses was not that great). Two weeks later When I get my glasses I still can't see. It's way too much augmentation for me. I know my eyes were not as bad. I needed a bit of help but when I got these man it was like I was blind. I couldn't use them either for reading or driving. Bottom line I feel that this doctor just adds stuff to make you spend money. When I completed the test I felt I was being pushed to say that I didn't see certain things. Then gives me some examples to see if my eyes feel good. Which they did but in all honestly I regret going there. Should have just gone to Costco and probably would have paid less without using my insurance. I certainly will not go back to this place. read more

I hope this review can off set the other review on here. I was very impressed with 20/20. Dr. Vidal is awesome. He was very personable and made me feel comfortable. Best of all he does not do the puff of air to the eye deal that I hate. I thought the office staff was great and helpful. When I came out of the exam one of the ladies already has about 10 pairs of glasses laid out. I tried on all 10 and then walked around and found a pair that was a bit pricey. She never once acted like they were not affordable. She just let me know that my insurance would not cover the entire frame cost. A week later I had my new glasses. They fit great and I could actually see for the first time in years! They also noticed my Oakley sun glasses and said that if I liked they could get me prescription lenses and switch them out for the ones already in the frames. It saved me a ton of cash since I did not have to re buy the frames. I have never had any past experience with Peterson or Rasmussen but Dr. Vidal is awesome. read more

My husband got his glasses at 20-20 Vision Center about five years ago. They are progressive lenses and were pretty expensive. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable, but this year when it was time for new glasses, we went to 20-20 to get pricing. We mentioned that Costco has much lower pricing for progressives and Cheryl warned us that he might not be happy with their lenses. So we ignored her warning and went to Costco anyway. When we went to pick up the glasses, my husband tried them on and said, "Whoa, these are making me dizzy!" And he said it was like looking through a narrow tunnel of clear vision, but blurry around the sides. The optician said he shouldn't wear them until he put them on the next morning, and that would help because the prescription was a little stronger than his old glasses. The next morning they weren't any better, so we took them back. To their credit, after we asked for the manager, they gave us a full refund, after which we went directly to 20-20 Vision Center. Dr. Vidal came out and we told him why we came back. He said he wasn't surprised, because he's had many patients come in with the same story. Anyway, my husband got his new glasses with the progressive lenses, and they came out perfect. He had no dizziness, and he even got frames that were just like his old ones, that he really liked a lot. I just got on Yelp to find Dr. Vidal's phone number and felt compelled to write a review to dispute the couple of bad ones I saw . . . . I started going to Dr. Vidal back in 1998. I got a defective pair of contact lenses from another doctor and they really messed up my eyes. Dr. Vidal came highly recommended from a co-worker - and I've been seeing him (get it - seeing him? Sorry!) ever since. He is a straight-shooter, his office staff is welcoming and like family, and I hope he NEVER retires! ;-) (I don't know who the photo on this site is - maybe he's added other doctors to the practice. I don't have any experience with them.) All I know is that Dr. Vidal was appalled at the condition of my eyes, and together we got them healthy again! (I had to buy/wear GLASSES for several months - then he "allowed" me to wear daily wear lenses before I was finally allowed to buy the tinted kind I liked. But it worked. Thank you Dr. Vidal!) Let me give you an example of why I highly recommend him: I opted to have Lasik surgery. Dr. Vidal recommended two doctors. He explained what his criteria was and how he chose these two doctors. He was looking for people who had their own equipment (vs. the doctors who fly in from LA, do thirty surgeries in a day and go home.) He wanted people who were well trained. He wanted eye surgery specialists. He recommended one doctor in La Jolla, and a doctor in Tijuana. I was a little apprehensive about the Tijuana doctor, but Dr. Vidal explained to me that the doctor taught at USD, was a forerunner in Lasik surgery, and was about $1000 less expensive than the other doctor. He also told me that if he were going to have Lasik surgery, that is the doctor he would choose. If Dr. Vidal had confidence in him, then I did, too. Before my surgery, I had one last check up with Dr. Vidal. He described to me (in DETAIL) everything that I would encounter, from what I might see in the hallways to how long it might take. I thought it was kind of over-kill at the time, but come surgery day, I found that as things unfolded exactly as he had described, it was very comforting and reassuring. On the day of my surgery, my dad and I met Dr. Vidal at his office along with another patient and her whole family. Dr. Vidal actually drove us all to the doctor's office across the border and back. Everything went very smoothly - and I couldn't believe that he took that kind of time to take us to the other doctor's office. How many doctors do you know who would do that? Bottom line - I wouldn't still be going to him now if I didn't really, really like this doctor. I moved up to Oceanside ten years ago, and still make the annual trek to La Mesa - THAT'S how much I like this doctor! read more

My son has been seeing him since he was a child and he is now 23 years old, Dr. Vidal is knowledgeable, thorough and patient and always a pleasure to deal with. I went in for an eye exam which was covered under my insurance my exam which came to the conclusion was the same prescription for contacts and a slight change in glasses when they tried to sell me contacts and I asked for my prescription the office refused to give it to me. I asked why the office personnel said I needed to pay a fee 95.00 to get it but they tried to sell me the contacts with out asking or telling me about the fee it wasn't until i wanted to go somewhere else that it came up. there is alot more to the story but i will keep it short.I would not recommend them save your money and get a better deal at costco 89.00 at costco for both an eye exam and contact prescription which is just 95.00 for contacts at 20/20 rip off read more
