After my first experience with Grossmont Vision I was so happy with the experience that I wrote a glowing review and posted it here on Yelp. I damaged my lens and went to Grossmont Vision for help. They ordered new lens on December 8, 2025. I still had no word from Grossmont Vision so I called on January 5, 2026. They said that there was a mix up and the lens would be here for me immediately. After another two weeks I called again and they went on about how the lab made the mistake for the delay. I asked why no one from Grossmont Vision didn't follow up with the lab when the lens didn't arrive on time. Once again they blamed the lab for the month delay. Then they said that they had the lens in the store. They never called me to tell me that the lens were in and I again asked why they didn't call my. The person from Grossmont Vision said in an angry tone "Your lens are here in the store if you want them. Very poor customer service on my second visit and they avoided any accountability for the bad service. I no longer can recommend Grossmont Vision Center. read more

It didn't matter that I have been there a dozen times within this year for adjustment for faulty frames. They even replaced once because they broke after being tighten by their employee. read more

Tried to overcharge me without checking my actual coverages. I'm aware of what my insurance covers so I was able to correct the assistant. My first time at this vision center and the entire experience felt like a money grab. Upsold me for pictures of my eyes when I could have the same procedure done through my insurance somewhere else. I was ok with paying as I was told she would explain in detail my overall eye health. There was little explanation as to what the pictures were for. Whole experience felt rushed. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Kevin M. Riggs, Optometrist and visiting this location for over 15 years. The office has always been very friendly, cordial, on time and accommodating to my schedule. They have a great selection of frames and lenses both prescription and sunglasses. I have also had my cataract and glaucoma eye screenings done as well. The staff is super nice, the location is centrally located and within 10 minutes from most areas in El Cajon, La Mesa and Mission Valley. Dr. Riggs really seem to care about my eye health and is genuine. read more

As far as the eye exam went, they were - okay. Felt a bit like an assembly line, but got the job done. HOWEVER , they did try to jack me on the price for the prescription glasses. I picked out something higher end, wanted some special features, and knew my vision insurance would not pay for the whole thing, but the assistant tried to show me a printed list of coverages for "my plan" and then claimed my portion would be a sky-high amount. I got them to write out the prescriptions for me, went somewhere else local where they took the time to actually look up my particular vision coverage on the computer and work with me on it, and got the exact same glasses I wanted...for $265 less. So sure, I might go back if I need an eye exam, but now I know that I shouldn't even consider buying glasses there. read more

Myself and my family have been patients of Dr Riggs for at least 5 years now and have never had a bad experience. There are 6 of us so we frequent GVCO quite a bit! All of the staff and Dr Riggs are very friendly and inviting and we're always greeted with a smile! They are all very knowledgeable and they offer a nice selection of frames and contact lenses at very affordable prices. I love that they aren't ever pushy sales people either. The office is small but comfortable and CLEAN! I appreciate the kids corner in the back by the exam room so my daughter can entertain herself during my eye exam. Another thing I LOVE about this place is they offer late appointments so I don't have to miss work and my kids don't have to miss school for our appointments!!! I went to a new place because my optometrist retired. I regret it. This is the worst place I have ever been even lens crafters were better I was trying to support local. They were not professional didn't get my progressive correctly didn't even try to fit my glasses on me they were not friendly when I had problems with how they were made. In the end they did gove me a refund and did not tell me they were not going to reinstate my benefits. Lied to vsp about why they didn't want to reinstate my refund. Basically leaving a customer without glasses. Wow how dare you leave someone without glasses so insensitive. I wouldn't recommend this place. I have nothing good to say about this place in the end vsp did reinstate me!! read more

I just had my first experience here yesterday. First off, let me say that Dr. Riggs is great. Takes his time, friendly, and thorough. He even corrected my Rx because a previous doctor had over corrected my astigmatism, and actually caused me to have eye strain, blurrier vision and headaches. He took time to find the perfect eye drops at the pharmacy or online to help with a past corneal injury that still flares up with eye dryness. When it came to the Pre-tester and retail portion of it all, this is where I was completely put off. Her name is Toya I believe. It first started with her being exasperated that I had to run to my car to get my glasses even though the receptionist told me I didn't need them. So Toya had me go get them and I parked sort of far. When I came back in with them she said immediately "Where did you PARK?" all irritated. I just told her I parked farther to get more steps. So on we go with the pre-testing. She's still not friendly and acting all put out to be there. When I'm done with the doctor and it's time to pick out glasses I ended up with the final decision to order online bc with Warby Parker bc it still ended up being cheaper even with my insurance coverage. She was NOT happy to say the least. Rolling her eyes and shooting glances at her co workers the entire time I was there. She was so aggravated that I "wasted her time" I guess. I can choose to take my prescription and do whatever I want with it. I'm very much still a customer bc I chose this Vision Center to see the doctor. Plus when I get my glasses, I'd like to think I'd be welcomed back so that my glasses can be adjusted at the very place I received my current prescription from. Doctor is great though! I was planning to call and talk about my experience with Dr. Riggs bc he is the owner anyway. read more

I've been going here for years and they've always been fair. My most experiences was horrible. There's just too much turn over, always training someone and poor Lynn doesn't speak good enough English to communicate effectively. I took time off work to come to my eye exam, after being told the day before by Lynn my benefits were still effective. Today, however I show up and she says "oh no everything will be out of pocket because your benefits will not be honored until next month!" What a disaster. It's one thing if I had the day, it's another thing to have to leave work only to be turned away. And where's the nice lady that's usually working the first desk? I was checked in by a volunteer who tried to upsell a retina exam! Get it together! I will not be back! read more

Amazing customer service! I just stopped by this optical after having taken my mother to a different location where they dilated her pupils and didn't give her those disposable protective glasses. I asked if they had any and explained the situation. The kind lady at the counter told me they didn't carry any because they don't dilate pupils there, so I thanked her and left. My mom was browsing in the shop next door so I caught up with her and moments later the kind lady from this shop came over and gave us some of the disposable glasses that a coworker had given her.
