I've been a client at Lake Murray Optometric for over 25 years. Each and every time I come in for my annual eye exam and consultation I feel welcomed and appreciated. Every staff member greets you with a warm hello and smile. My previous Dr. left to another facility so I had the services performed by Dr. Rachel Inlow and she was nothing short of amazing. she was very detailed and conveyed the information in an easy to understand language. I'll definitely be requesting her for my next annual exam. The fees are very reasonable (I had to pay "out of pocket) and I consider a great value. If you're due for you annual exam I highly recommend Lake Murray Optometric without reservation. Also recently my wife's expensive pair of glasses became damaged (one of the ear piece hinges broke and couldn't be repaired). I brought them to Lake Murray Optometric (where they were purchased) and Des Elsen one of the Opticians said she'd try and get the frames replaced under warranty. She was successful and when the frames were received she sent the frames out for installing the frame lenses. Everything was performed under warranty and with a smile. I've been seeing Dr. Gonzales for years and wouldn't go anywhere else. He was a tremendous help in recommending a group to do my cataract surgery and in encouraging me to do the surgery right away. It was a "game changer." He is always honest in evaluating whether I need a new prescription for my lenses when I have my annual eye exam. If I don't need them, he shows me the difference between my current prescription and the latest findings and lets me decide if I want to get new lenses or wait until the next year. Since my cataract surgery, my eyes are stable, and I don't need a new prescription every year. Although his staff has changed several times over the years, they are always courteous and professional. I went in for a normal eye exam for single vision glasses and everything was done promptly and properly. I appreciated being shown the images of my retinas so that I could see their condition. I went here once years ago, and I could not remember why I never went back until I recently scheduled an appointment. Trying to update my info was an absolute nightmare. The person I was talking to was either new or untrained and kept playing the game of echoing everything I say to the person behind her. To her credit, she probably could not hear anything over the incredibly loud conversations going on in the office. The background conversations we loud enough that they were overpowering the person I was speaking to on the phone. The office staff needs to be retrained on the basics of customer service. It gets better... the lady on the phone told me she's not familiar with my insurance. I have been a patient here for years. When my daughters began developing eyesight issues, this was the first place I brought them to. We have always had the best customer service here! The receptionists are always kind, and patient when explaining insurance coverage information. One of my twins was having some very concerning eyesight problems and Dr. Gonzalez was who she happened to see (we are SO thankful we did) After a thorough examination, he explained she had something called amblyopia - something somewhat common in children, however she was only seeing at 20/80 which was concerning as she was already 8 years old. He immediately suggested we should patch her which we started at 3 days a week for 4 hours. We came back at the 2 month check up, and saw very little improvement so he bumped it up to 5 days a week for 12 hours and recommended we see a specialist. We immediately started his recommendations on patching and scheduled an appointment at Sharp with a specialist who saw her in November. He was incredibly surprised that Dr. Gonzalez aggressively patched her, as most optometrists apparently wont - as was so pleased that he did. He said nothing but great things about doctors like Dr. Gonzalez who are willing to patch aggressively in order to train the brain to work the eye and strengthen it while it still can in her developing age. The specialist at Sharp had us patch her 23 hours a day from November and are continuing but at her follow up appointment yesterday, she had some incredible improvement of 20/50 vision! Which I absolutely credit to Dr. Gonzalez - I truly feel like he saved her eyesight and she is on the road to regaining 20/20! I applaud him and recommend him a million times over. A very thorough and pleasant visit to the office and lots of great free advice regarding dry eye care and other issues. No hard sell either. Doc recommended a slight increase in mom's prescription, but said it wasn't urgent and could wait until she was ready for a change. It had been 2 years since my last eye exam and I felt it was time to get checked. I'm nearsighted and I've worn glasses most of my life and currently have a stigma in my right eye. I chose this place people it was close and it had good Yelp reviews. I'm using to going to Eye World or My Eye Doctor back east so not going to a chain was a little different for me. Everyone I talked to was super nice! The doctor was the best... I don't remember who I saw. But he was very quick yet thorough. I had glasses I had purchased from Eye World in Oceanside 2 years ago... Steve Madden's that cost me $200! So I wasn't about to buy new frames. They didn't try to sell me anything and I didn't feel the least bit pressured to get new frames. The only thing I didn't like was that I had to wait 2 weeks to get my glasses back. I guess because they don't have a lab in house. I'm used to picking up same day or next day (spoiled ). I didn't have insurance so everything cost about $250, including the exam and scratch resistant lenses. Over all it was a good experience. read more

I've been going to Lake Murray Optometric for 5 or 6 years now, and my experience has been positive across the board. Generally, I see Dr. Gonzalez, who has been able to nail my challenging prescription. I have astigmatism in both eyes, which makes it difficult to make both eyes work together. So, I'm very happy to have a comfortable prescription for both near and far. This office also has the most up to date equipment, like the scanner that allows you to avoid dilation. The staff are incredibly nice and accommodating. Recently, I bent a pair of Tom Ford prescription frames and Ian was able to fix them at no cost (no parts were needed, but the work was significant). Also, the lens selection here is fantastic, including almost any fashionable brand you can think of. Bottom line -- I highly recommend visiting Dr. Gonzalez if you live or work in this part of town. read more

When I was there about 8 months ago the eye doctor insisted that I got my eyes dilated even though I had it done the previous year. I told him it was not necessary at this time. I'm not sure what I think of this place. The waiting room was clean and comfortable and the receptionist was sweet when she greeted me. The doctor (not sure who, not Dr. Gonzalez though) was able to give me more information about certain contact care habits. The eye exam itself felt accurate and solid. There were many small things though that make me feel uncertain about coming back. The lady who gathered my previous eye exam information (not the receptionist) made me feel very awkward when I didn't know my prescription information perfectly. Her tone and questions were judgmental. She also appeared cold and uninterested in her job when providing my first tests. I'm not a fan of all the tests and she didn't provide any warmth. Additionally, the eye doctor was knowledgable but came across harsh when providing info about unhealthy contact habits. I felt he didn't even understand or empathize with me and stated his own opinion without listening to my reasoning. When they gave me new contacts, he gave me a different size than my regular size for trial contacts and they have been relatively uncomfortable all week. I also asked if he would give me some privacy when I put my contacts in, and he must have missed that because he just stared at me while I did which was uncomfortable. Lastly, they sent my contacts and someone else's contacts to my house so now I need to bring the other set back to the clinic. The people are knowledgeable and the location is beautiful inside. However, I also felt judged, lack of warmth and minimal connection with the staff. I don't think I would feel comfortable coming back based on how I felt treated. This eye exam visit was definitely stressful throughout. Update: office manager listened to me and said she would address my concerns with the doctor and staff member. I imagine Dr. Gonzalez must be amazing since most of the reviews are about him. Also the shipping sounds like an error on their shipping packer. read more

My husband and I are new patients to Lake Murray Optometric and I'd have to say that they truly care about their patients. We had scheduled an appointment to get new glasses and contacts. Upon walk in, we were greeted by the women behind the counter. They were really polite and we experienced no wait or delay for our appointment. I have to also mention that the place is very well decorated and not like a boring doctor's office. They have complimentary coffee and tea too! A women took us in to do a few tests first and then the doctor took us in shortly. After the exam, he explained what he thought would be a good fit for me according to my lifestyle and needs. I'm glad that he took the time to take those factors into account. After, we got to choose our frames. They have a HUGE selection. Rachel helped pick frames that suited our face and I'm glad she was patient and didn't mind me trying on so many. I ended up picking one that she chose for me and my husband picked one that she suggested also. The frames were decently priced. Everything was smooth sailing after that and all we needed to do was wait for the glasses to come in. It took about a week to get them in. I noticed there were a couple defects in the frames, but the woman that was helping me adjust them did not hesitate to have them sent back for a new pair of frames. I definitely felt taken care of. Now I'm just waiting on my glasses to come in. Overall, the atmosphere is welcoming and they truly care about their patient's experience. read more

After longtime frustration over exasperating experiences with my previous vision provider, (I tried 2 different offices in 3 years), I am "over the moon" with Dr. Gonzalez and his staff! Dr Gonzalez is very knowledgable, patient, and really took the time to get my contacts Rx right! My previous provider, (Sharp Rees Stealy): ...never contacted me to remind me of my annual exam, never ordered my contacts in a timely manner, never offered me rebate forms for my contacts, (they told me to check online), never provided the correct receipts for submission of a contacts rebate, never even answered the phone!..(I always had to leave a mssg. and then wait for a return call to make my appt. or order my lenses), never once got my ins. billing right, (they left me to fix the botched ins. billing on my own)! My family have been patients here for several years and like and respect Dr. Gonzalez. He does a thorough exam and explains things well. While most of the staff members are both professional and very personable, there is unfortunately one employee who is neither. We have had the misfortune of dealing with this employee ourselves several times, as well as overhearing her interactions with other patients (the room displaying the eyeglass frames and where you "check out" is open, often with more than one patient being helped at once.) She is at best cold and disinterested, but frequently condescending and at times downright argumentative with patients. This one employee creates such a distinctly unpleasant and uncomfortable atmosphere that we'll be moving on to a new eye care provider. It's a shame, as we have no problem with the Doctor or other staff members, who are able to address patient questions and concerns clearly and graciously. But one bad apple really can ruin the whole barrel. We're done being forced to play attitude roulette at each visit and losing. read more

I have had some rare eye problems and it took awhile to schedule an appointment (a few days). Anyways, Dr. González told me that he is "stumped" with my condition but he was persistent with trying to figure out what was wrong with me. He told me it could be one of two things: an autoimmune condition or some eye condition. This got me tested and started the process of getting looked at for an autoimmune condition. I am the biggest baby of all babies when it comes to anything medical related, especially eye related appointments. Yuck. The fact that I even stay up on my yearly eye exams is something I am shocked I do, probably because my mother forces me to do it.... Today I tried to give it a new outlook. The office inside is pretty nice but what I never liked about the place was how sometimes the employees were pushy with medical-phobics like me making for some very uneasy and uncomfortable situation. I think just about everyone in this office has seen me cry, yeah, that's right, crying. Pathetic huh? I sucked it up today and did all of what I think are the most unnecessary tests ever, especially for a 17 year old... I definitely don't have glaucoma.... whatever. The ladies today were pretty nice and my eye doctor finally lightened up on his humor. He reminds me of Napoleon mixed with a character from A Clockwork Orange.... especially the weird eye testing contraptions.... He makes you read the wackiest little cards that must be from extremely old works of literature because you feel like your speech problems are worse than your eyes are.... After my self-esteem was bludgeoned to the ground by telling me without glasses my vision is 20-400 hahahahahaha, horrible, they led me into the room to get some new frames since mine were as old as the hills. They have quite the selection of designer frames. Juicy Coiture, Fendi, Versace, Gucci, you get the picture.... I found myself some nice Fendi frames for not that bad of a price. The ladies really spend the time with you to find exactly the frames you need. This is a valued quality for a person like myself who is beyond indecisive. Recently I needed to have my eyes checked for a up-coming exam at the DMV. A friend suggested Lake Murray Optometric. I made my appointment with Dr. Hall and the staff along with Dr. Hall made me feel welcome. My exam was extensive and when finished we went with bi-focal contacts. It was like a miracle seeing up close and also distance. I later met Dr. Gonzalez who has taken over most of the practice from Dr. Hall who is semi-retired. He also was pleasant and happy to share. Working for Nordstrom for 30 years I truly appreciate customer service. The office staff was also great in explaining everything and more. I can never thank all for making my day. I've probably been seeing Dr. G for 3-4 years now. Each visit has always been amazing. I was having issues finding an Optometrist who took my insurance and Lake Murray was the ONLY office that was willing to help. Other offices were listed as in network with my insurance yet they had no idea what my "blue view vision" insurance was? (Weird) Anyway, since then I've stayed with Dr. G. Staff is always friendly, knowledgeable and actually know who you are when you walk in. Office is clean and they have a section where you can buy glasses/sunglasses and there is always a staff member there to help you. Dr. G is great and very smart, he answers all my questions and concerns. I dont live too close to the office anymore, but I'd rather stay with Dr. G and his staff than go anywhere else! read more
