When they say total wine and liquor they really mean total wine and liquor. From wines to beers to cigars to cheese to classes, this place literally has it all. The best way to describe total wines is that it is one part Wegman's, one part Hobby Lobby and one part liquor store. The store itself is very large and may appear daunting upon first glance. However, the isles are labeled, and even sub labeled, and the staff is helpful. The wine section is huge! The wines span the globe. Each aisle is labeled by type of wine and region, which makes finding your favorite fermented grapes easy. In addition, the store displays helpful placards that describes wines for novices (like myself). Total wine's beer section is just as large as their wine section! And similar to the wine section, beers are labeled by type and region. Total wines' beers range from your domestic staples like bud and miller, to your specialty craft beers like Brooklyn brewery, Cricket Hill, Ommegang, Dogfish Head, Smutty Nose and more. There is also a large selection of ciders and Meads. Besides an enormous selection of booze, total wine sells great gift sets. For instance, total wine offers fashionable wine cooler totes, fancy wine racks and awesome gift baskets (such as a wine and cheese gift basket). The best part about the gift sets is that they are really affordable and of high quality. Total wines also offers classes for a nominal fee! Some of the classes that were offered include blind wine tasting class, wine tour of Napa valley, home brewing 101, and Irish whiskey history and tasting. Moreover, their classes are held in a huge private classroom within the store. It gets even better! Total fine has a gigantic humidor that hold a plethora of cigars! It is a site to see! The west orange Total Wine location gets 4 stars because the store is unlike any other liquor that I have ever seen. The store has creative displays, is well lit, has large isles that are properly labeled and is super clean. In addition, this total Wine location really seems to engage the customer, making him/her feel like a wine/beer/cigar aficionado. However, it's location in the Essex green plaza makes it a pain to get to. In fact, I didn't know it existed until I unexpectedly took a wrong turn in the Essex green parking lot and found myself in the back of the plaza. In addition, though the floor staff of total wine were kind and very helpful, their cashiers counterparts were not. The cashiers were slow checking people out and a little hostile. Maybe a bottle of sangria will perk them up. I am a fan of total wine and plan to make it my go to adult beverage store! read more

I would love to give this place more stars but i just cann't. The best way to break it down is this: The selection- 4 stars; their selection is huge, they have a large amount of wine, beer, and spirits. They won't have everything but you can try to special order items for you. They are currently trying to get me a price for a bottle of planeta moscato di noto, it's hard to find if they can't get it and the manager claimed it's an ultra premium bottle there for harder to get. The Prices- 5 Stars; You will be hard pressed to find better prices on some things they have in stock as they sell some bottles slightly above cost. I bought a case of Asti from them at 18 cents above cost per bottle. Normally they will discount you 10 percent when you buy a case, but since it was already discounted heavily the case wasn't. But I have found premium whiskey for 15 dollars off going price and I just picked up a bottle of Royal Accord for $25 under its going price. If you know what you're looking for you can defiantly save a few bucks. The associates- 1 Star; here is where they have fallen short in my opinion. The sales staffs are all very kind, and willing to help you and make recommendations. The problem is that they seem to be a little too liberal on what they like to recommend. The past 2 time I have been here I had to pick up a good amount for the holidays. The first instance was when I was purchasing a case of the M&R Asti, for my father who gives out bottles as gifts. When I told the woman I wanted a case, she went into a spiel on this other brand that from a small company that I should really consider buying instead. Politely I told her I really was only interested in the M&R brand Asti and she insisted that this San Oreslo, or a spelling close to this, was superior. So confident that she offered to give me 10% off if I decided to try the bottle. Well I figure for the price and taking into account how much she had raved about it would be worth buying a single bottle in addition the case of R&M. Well I tried it that night and it was horrific, I got through a glass worth of punishment before I decided I couldn't stomach any more of it and discarded the bottle. The second thing they recommended was another bottle of Champagne when they didn't have the bottle of Moet Nectar Imperial I wanted. They insisted that it was comparable and that price was not to be beat. After explaining I was concerned more about the quality then the price they still recommended it to me. Needless to say it was sub-par, I'm done with recommendation from their staff. It's worth wild to ask for help if you're looking for something but if you are unsure about a bottle go with a gut feeling. Being friendly only goes so far and a bad bottle will ruin a night. read more

The staff are always polite and accommodating AND they're often hiring for sales associates and cashiers! Can't really beat that! This store is well stocked, immaculate and the customer service is ABOVE and BEYOND!!!!!! Every time I go, there is someone available to answer questions, locate products and make recommendations. The prices are much better than any other liquor store I have been to in New Jersey. If they don't have something, they can get it. They also have a great sale circular with discount coupons , usually on purchase of wine over a certain amount. They have good discount specials going on throughout the year. A wine lovers dream! So many options here to choose from and a friendly staff that offers daily tastings of everything from vodka to wine to whiskey. A large layout and an abundance of varietals, Total Wine is definitely worth the trip. The staff is very helpful, though I have to admit, I'm not sure they always steer me in the right direction of what I'm looking for. What I find outstanding about this store that I haven't seen at any other liquor store is that they sell things like spiked seltzers and the like separately. So let's say you only liked one flavor of seltzer - you ould just buy the ones you like or make your own variety pack with different flavors and brands. It's seriously GENIUS! I love that Total Wine has a rewards program - you get discounts and coupons if you're a member. I also like that they give you a discount on cases or half cases of wine. Definitely brings me back from Livingston because that savings can really add up. They have some gourmet items like nuts and chips and such which is always fun to explore new goodies. And the case of uber expensive wines and liquors is always fun to check out. They even have rooms for private tastings. I do wish they separated some of their wines by regions, as someone who is obsessed with New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, but I'll live. read more

I've been here a few times and love. They have a great selection of wine, beer, and other high end liquors. The aisles are are all marked as to what is in each aisle which is super helpful because the store is huge. Another helpful thing they do is if you are part of their rewards program they will send you emails about new brands that come out and will tell you what aisle to find it in. I do agree that their selection of beer and wine is much more extensive than that of let's say their rum or whiskey but they still have a greater selection than most stores. Prices-wise, it is comparable to other liquor stores. Parking is also not an issue because the lot is huge. It also shares the lot with Shoprite so if you need to pop into the supermarket before or after its convenient to do so. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because there have been quite a few times I have went and there has been only one person at the cash register and the line gets quite long depending on the time of day. But besides that the staff is very helpful and knowledgeable so if you have any questions or are looking for suggestions just ask. read more

They didn't have what I wanted, but I just couldn't help myself and looked at their scotch selection. 3 rare bottles later I was able to leave. This is a pretty large store that has a great selection of wine, beer, and spirits. The beer selection in particular is quite nice and you can make your own six-pack, which is always a plus. This liquor store has an amazing selection of wines, liquors and beer. They also carry bar snacks, mixers, soda and bar tools (i.e. glasses, corkscrews, etc). What sets this liquor store apart from the rest are: 1. Layout makes it very easy to find what you want 2. Selection is second to none. 3. the service is excellent. The staff knows their stuff and never makes you feel stupid for asking a question. Before visiting the store, I checked online to see if Total Wine & More sold Magner's Pear Cider. Although it was a listed product, the website said that the West Orange location didn't have any in stock. A little bummed... I still wanted to check out the store--I was going to get groceries at Whole Foods & ShopRite anyways. I walk in and saw rows and rows of wine, beer, and other liquor which reminded me a little of BevMo's in California. When I reached the beer aisle, I also saw some Mike's Hard Lemonade... and low and behold! right next to the hard lemonade sat Magner's Pear Cider! Woowoo! I'm glad I decided to take a quick look... On a side note, I found it funny that the cashier chick didn't card me. I do look kinda young despite being a quarter century, and I'm Asian so that doesn't help either... but anyways didn't get carded! read more

Quite a liquor store! They have a fine selection of wines, all at reasonable prices. Most, though not all, of their selection has a price point lower than the nearby competition. The same can be said about their spirits. What I like is that the liquor can be purchased in just about all available sized bottles, with the larger bottles being priced down accordingly. Where I find this store to shine is in their beer selection. They stock such a diverse range of beers, available by the case, 6-pack, individual bottle or bomber. They always seem to be stocking new releases, and are receptive to suggestions and requests. While there may be certain harder to find brews missing from their selection, for a larger non "boutique" shop, they are doing a bang-up job. Placed an order and called to pick it up 15 minutes earlier than the pickup window since I would be out running another errand nearby. I used to avoid chain liquor stores because of the impersonal service and lack of attentiveness from the staff. This store has made me rethink that stance as it's staff is knowledgeable, friendly, attentive, and most of all happy to see you. The prices are rock bottom compared to any store in the area and the selection blows all competition out of the water. I love my beer and they stock not only a large selection of domestic, import, and craft beers but feature a large number from Germany making me a VERY happy man. This is the only place I can find my precious Schlenkerla Smokebeer, if you haven't tried it the Weizen and Marzen are a must for any beer fan. my initial experience was good here, i was running an errand and had to pick up a bunch of stuff for a family friend. there was a nice employee who directed me to where everything was (this was my first time coming to this location). the only reason why i'm giving it 2 stars is because of him and how helpful he was. as soon as i went to the register to check out, however, i was met with a cashier who gave me extreme attitude. she asked for my ID (which is fine) but then proceeds to scan it and then call over the manager after she scanned it. my ID was obviously very much real and i understand there might be underage kids buying stuff but this was very over dramatic. the manager came and looked at it (which was useless because he barely glanced at it) and then the cashier proceeded to finish checking me out. i've had friends who had similar issues with some of the workers here and i really hope they fix this attitude because there are actual nice workers who deserve these positions. read more

Ridiculously rude! I presented my ID then the cashier requested to also see my younger sisters ID. I explained we didn't know about their policy that all customers in store should be over21. There was no sign at entrance to inform customers of this rule. They refused to sell me the beer and wine. Not a big deal I can get it from another establishment but I saw other customers, older white men with their kids checking out next to me. Apparently their policy doesn't apply to everyone. read more
