Tough cookie.... that is exactly it! This quaint little out of the way cafe is REALLY a tough cookie owing to the extremely hard & stale gluten-free cinnamon rolls they serve. All of the wonderful adjectives they used in their online ad had our group thinking that we were in for a treat, but according to the disillusioned faces around the table, it was more of a trick than a treat. Tough Cookie was truly a bust. The maintenance of the grounds was a nightmare! Handicapped people with walkers & wheelchairs had virtually no access to the building due to overgrown weeds on & around the ramp as well as lizards overrunning the entrance. I walked past this the first time I saw it first day of vaca but after reading reviews went for breakfast today. First the people working there couldn't be any nicer and the place is perfect inside and spotless clean. The coffee late were the best I've had in a long time and the breakfast egg biscuit sandwich and my wife had the quiche both were great seriously considering going back for lunch today but tomorrow is our last day and for sure will be back for breakfast. The only world capable of describing this place is "magical." Their food is delicious, their pastries and desserts are on point, and the atmosphere is laid back, friendly and welcoming. Most of their food is vegan with gluten free options as well. My only complaint is I wish they had some more milk alternative options. Right now they're only serving almond. OMG! You don't have to be vegan or vegetarian to love this place! Not only is this family run spot adorable, everything I've had is yummy. My favs are the coffee, the hot chocolate, the avocado pistachio toast, and these bars that are a peanut butter and chocolate concoction. Their menu changes a little so a good tip is to ask them for their recommendations. They use local vendors when possible, including baking with vodka from a neighboring distillery. Yum! The atmosphere is colorful and comfortable. There's also an outdoor area with shade! It's a bit out of the way for me, but I make a point to get there as often as I can. Look for the giant wooden cupcake amongst those cute cabins near the water. These people are gifted! read more

I really wanted to love this place but the "hipster/hippie" vibe was strong with this one. Just not my thing. If you are the only clientele, it is peaceful and quiet but if there are more than a few or children, it can be very loud due to the type of building it is in. The staff was friendly enough and the food is good if you prefer Vegan/Vegetarian/Gluten Free type baked goods. I had the Broccoli/Cheddar on Sweet Potato crust quiche and it tasted fairly decent. The bakery itself was a tiny bit difficult to find as it is on a side street that is not easily accessible and poorly marked. All in all, if the Austin/Hippie thing appeals to you, I recommend this little joint...if not, I would move along. read more

My partner and I got peppermint hot chocolate to start and then moved on to our main courses-- peanut stew for both of us, quiche with a sweet potato (gluten free) crust fort me and biscuits with gravy for him. Everything was exceptional. A trip here wouldn't be complete without sampling their cookies! We devoured gluten free raspberry bars and paleo snicker doodles. The owner even comped us a paleo raspberry thumbprint cookie and a vegan cinnamon bun. As someone with celiac, I am incredibly impressed and amazed with the variety, knowledge and quality this place puts out.
