I contacted Maggie about growing out my Mohawk and wearing extensions to protect my hair while I go through the awkward baby goose phase of growing it out. My shortest piece of hair was about two inches (the sides) and the Mohawk part had grown to about 6 inches. It looked BAD! My self esteem was in the gutter and I was having major hairstyle regrets. I didn't know what to do and I wasn't even sure I could get the extensions on such short hair. But I had been checking out the Toushe social media and loved the looks coming out of the salon and I was hopeful that they could do SOMETHING to help me look better. When I went in for my consultation Maggie took time to help me decide what type of extensions would be best on my VERY short and very fine hair. We decided on tape ins which she expertly matched to my color. She chose a mix of dark brown and medium brown for the most natural look. On the day of the application I was nervous but Maggie was confident that she could transform my look. I'm telling you, she is a miracle worker. Not only did she put the extensions in so that they're completely seamless and perfectly blended but she also gave me an amazing custom cut and style. My daughter had hair extensions put in Arizona (where we live) a few days later we went to New York for a visit and we realized the extensions didn't look right and her head didn't feel right. We were referred to Maggie at Toushe. Once Maggie did a consult she noticed they were placed to close together and all at the base of the head also they were very tight that my daughter's scalp had red bumps from the beads. Maggie went above and beyond to help us out, she stayed late and had her employees help her make my daughter's hair look beautiful and natural. Maggie took every single extension (100 pieces plus) out and replaced it with spreading them evenly around she then trimmed the hair and made it look 100% natural. BEST HAIRCUT I'VE EVER GOT! I could not suggest this place more!! If you are looking for a haircut, come here! I've been to so many different salons in Bay Ridge and this is the best one yet! Before coming in, my hair looked sorta choppy and the bangs where grown out - nothing blended and it looked a mess but then I came here and the woman cutting my hair blended everything so perfectly! Best blow out I've ever gotten too, I'm not a fan of blow outs because I feel like I always end up looking like Farrah Fawcett with huge hair but it came out so good! After researching keratin alternatives, I popped into Toushe in order to ask about magicsleek. Two magic sleek treatments later and I can't stop gushing about the results as well as the stylists/owners at Toushe, Maggie and Matthew. Matthew takes his time during the process to ensure you receive a customized magicsleek treatment (he can tailor it to just eliminate frizz, or to provide a straight and sleek look depending on your preference). Unlike keratin, magicsleek is formaldehyde free and the results have been way better for me than the keratin treatments I did in the past. For the first month after Magicsleek I didn't want or need to style or apply heat to my hair at all! My hair looks professionally styled and grew as a result. I couldn't be happier! I came to Toushe for a Keratin treatment and found so much more. Matt and Maggie are wonderful stylists. My Keratin treatment looks beautiful. Smooth, shiny, with volume. While I was hesitant to go for a smoothing treatment, Matt reassured my that he could maintain the volume of my natural hair. I have dark brown hair that has been put through A LOT of color changes. I had been searching for someone who can get me to an ash blonde balayage, without completely frying my hair, with little luck. Then a friend recommended Maggie! She seriously works miracles. Full disclosure, I am really bad at leaving reviews for anything, and literally created a Yelp account for this experience lol. I can't seem to upload my hair pics for this review, but my profile pics here are from right after having my hair done at Toushe! Without keeping it too wordy, my hair was fried, uneven, breaking and I couldn't grow it out properly. I looked into getting tape-in extensions because they came highly recommenced by several Salons and clients for not causing damage and actually allowing natural hair to grow. As hesitant as I was, after doing some pretty extensive homework and having a couple of bad previous experiences with so-called extension specialists, I gave it a go with Maggie (and the rest of the awesome crew). The consult was brief but she was super confident after taking a quick look at my hair, and she reassured me that it would indeed see another day being worn down freely...*This is a luxury only girls with heavily damaged or processed hair will understand! She did not try and sell me a million products, or push for treatments I don't need, which is big deal because hair extensions themselves and having them applied, is expensive, even before any cut or color or anything. The job she (they) did and how seamlessly she was able to blend my uneven hair into the extensions was incredibly comforting. It was reasonably priced, took way less time than I thought it would, and honestly, I look good as hell. They feel natural, have barely any weight and when properly taken care of will last a very long time. Last thing I will mention is the salon itself: very warm and friendly, great little area in Bay Ridge (2 blocks from my house luckily), and not pretentious. They seem to have a tight knit environment so it's very laid back. She also does great color an cut in general, so even if extensions are not your thing, it's worth walking in and seeing what she can do for you :) read more

First, I live in Manhattan so this salon isn't exactly in my backyard but it is an easy commute and definitely worth the travel time. Matthew and his crew are so personable and professional. After only a few visits I already feel like family. The salon provides great services at a reasonable price. I've never left without being completely satisfied. Maggie and her staff are very professional and kind. They are personable and listen to your requests, concerns. They answer your questions and are patient. Maggie's color skills are off the chain! My hair used to be dyed black for many years. Over time it was able to get to blonde but a yellow brassy blonde. Maggie got me really blonde, a beautiful blonde, if I may say so myself. The other girl was very sweet. Gave me a great wash, cut and blow. She listened to me and didn't cut too much. She brushed my hair out gently. My hair gets super tangled. Other salons rip the hair out of my head to get the knots out. She took her time and asked me to tell her if she hurt me. Took her time to be gentle and didn't burn me with the blow dryer. I asked Maggie if I needed toner and she said no. She will not charge you for services that you don't need. They are honest. Oh and they have drinks as well. I found Toushe while searching for salons that offer keratin at a reasonable price in Bayridge. I'm so happy that I did! Matthew did an amazing job with my four day keratin. I've gotten keratin several times in different salons and this is by far the best. My hair is so smooth and looks so healthy, plus it's seriously cut down the amount of time it takes for me to do my hair. While I was getting keratin, I spoke to Maggie about my hair color which was done at another salon. She knew I did not love the color and she recommended I come back for a baylage to take out the brassy tones in my hair. I am absolutely in love with my new color! I used a groupon for a full head of highlights and a haircut. I was a little skeptical because it was so cheap but the YELP reviews were all so good I figured I'd check it out. I was pleasantly surprised. I have thick curly hair - and a lot of it. I was getting the highlights to hide all the grey/white hair i have (it doesn't grow in from the roots - just lots of grey strays). Marinella suggested I a half head with more highlights and it looks great. I have been getting highlights forever and it wasn't really covering up the greys. Everyone at the salon was super friendly.
