This was my first experience at Nadias salon; and I must say that I was highly impressed with the experience. Nadia was super hospitable, informative and efficient throughout the entire process--I came in for a wash/press/style. I love the fact that Nadia examined my hair before starting the first step. Upon examining my hair, she determined to use a particular shampoo/conditioner for my hair needs. Without a doubt this was the best shampoo experience that I've received in a very long time. You could tell how attentive and much care she puts into caring for her clients--simply from the shampoo process. After the awesome deep conditioning process, we went to her chair and proceeded with a blowout. From past experiences I've never cared for this  step in the process until Nadia. She put one of her leave in products in my hair, that also acts as detangler; at which pointed she began to blow out my hair. It was amazing to see how much care she put into each and every section. Afterward she flat ironed my hair, and styled it flawlessly with a curling iron--in a way that I've never seen before. The time went by so fast, soley because of how interactive and polite she was. Nadia, is the Only stylist that touches my hair.... And I live in LA! Nadia is more than a hairstylist - she's an artist and the finish is Always better than I could have imagined. My hair is natural and Nadia always conditions and treats my hair before any styling, especially for a silk press -and never over heats! The salon experience itself feels exclusive in the best way. It's ground level but you can't just walk in,, and there's usually only 1 other client in there at a time -or sometimes just me. I was from out of town and needed my hair done for a special event. The hair stylist didn't have clippers to trim my hair and used scissors to cut a patch out of my hair on the left side of my head. I asked to see my trim and she said she didn't have a mirror in the shop so she just videotaped the back of my head. The stylist was ill equipped and didn't even have a brush. The more experienced stylist in the shop lied and said my hair looked nice and I believed her since there was no hand mirror to me to see the big patch taken out of my hair. Very unprofessional salon. Booked a single process hair color which was 165 and then upon check out was charged $200 just for the hair color to be washed out of my hair. I was not told about this upfront and it is stated no where on the website and I did not authorize this charge. Very dishonest, unprofessional salon. They will tag on excessive fees after the service is performed if they do not tell you about any point. My sister, who has long, natural hair, had been going to Nadia's salon for a while and always spoke highly of Nadia, so I was familiar with Nadia's work prior to my first visit. I've been natural for about 6 years now and haven't quite figured out how to maintain my own hair so I had a few questions for Nadia during my first visit, which she was open to answering. Nadia is so friendly, the salon is adorable and in a convenient location (2 minutes from the F/M train), and the experience is far from overwhelming. Appointments are mandatory so the salon is never crowded. There's been just one other client in the salon during my appointments (either finishing up at the start of my appointment or about to start their appointment at the end of mine). Nadia is efficient and very easy to talk to so the time always flies by. I will definitely be seeing Nadia on a regular basis for assistance with maintaining a healthy head of hair. read more

Started going to Nadia for relaxer touchups this past summer during the pandemic and so glad I did! Have since been back every few months - she's always prompt, leaves my hair looking great, and has been really helpful in advising how to manage it in between appointments. I have relaxed hair but I've also seen her do natural hair clients with equally good results. Each time that I've gone, I've gotten compliments on how great my hair looks. Im originally from LA, where hair is everything! I moved to NY 3 1/2 years ago and have been searching for a salon that specializes in natural hair. In my years of living here, I have been to many salons who claimed they know how to press hair and every time, I have left the salon dissatified. I did a google search and came across this salon. I read the wonderful reviews and decided to try this salon. I called and spoke to Nadia. She was extremely nice and friendly. She listened to my concerns and assured me that I will be taken care of. I was extremely excited about my appointment. I received an email confirmation that stated that Micha would be doing my hair and shes originally from LA and that she would take care of me. I was SO HAPPY! The day of my appointment, I was greeted by Nadia and Micha. Micha was extremely professional. She did a consultation and i was able to address my concerns. She washed my hair and applied a cellophane and a deep conditioning treatment ( I just came out of a weave). She took her time and combed out my thick hair. I couldnt believe how gentle she was. It didnt hurt at all. She then pressed my hair and flat ironed my hair. My hair was so beautiful. It looked so healthy! She was extremely professional and i loved how Micha focused only on me. Im used to being in the salon for hours and that wasnt the case. I told Micha that Im going to be a "regular" client. I already been back a second time and made another appointment for next week. I also referred a couple of girlfriends as well. I came into Nadia's salon with a friend who was getting her hair done for her wedding. While my friend had an appointment, I did not and I had not originally planned to get my hair done at the salon, as I am more of a DIY girl. After commenting on how awesome I thought one of the stylists' hair looked, my friend asked if the salon could squeeze me in for a quick wash/blow-dry/flat iron. After speaking with Nadia, and realizing there had been a cancellation, stylist Ashley was given the OK to get started on my hair. I must say, that I am VERY hesitant to let anyone touch my hair, as I have very thick, curly natural hair and have always had less than stellar experiences at the handful of salons I have tried since going natural 2 years ago. However, after a relaxing shampoo and condition, Ashley gently detangled my curls and got to work blow-drying and then flat-ironing my hair. I was amazed at the results, as was my friend (the bride). My straight style lasted a good 5 days, including through the high humidity on the day of the wedding. More importantly, my natural curls returned, without heat damage, once I washed and deep conditioned my hair. This salon is very professional and the stylists, particularly Ashley, know what they are doing. The negative reviews on this site seem to be from people who lack common sense (e.g. who wears a pricey piece of clothing to a salon where chemicals are often used?). Tried a new stylist at Nadia's salon . Ashley is great , very skilled and kind . She gives great advice and also listens to concerns . I have crazy , damaged & generally jacked up hair ; and she handles it with ease. Very skilled and made me feel extremely comfortable ! She also does makeup so she's like a salon Swiss Army knife . After my hair dresser moved away, I found myself looking desperately all over the city for a new stylist. I wanted someone who could do everything from sew-in extensions, to color, to natural hair. Then one day I stumbled on Nadia's Instagram page (nadiavassellsalon). She had pictures of ladies looking like champs with short hair, long hair, sew-ins, natural styles, and bold color. So my experience: - Came to salon on time for my appointment to do Sew in - 3 hours I waited-- 3HOURS - When they finally began working on my hair they rush it so fast to let me go. - 15 min it took to put 1 Sew in i needed - My extensions were cut in peaces instead of having just one peace I wanted and - In the rush they did not put my extension as I wanted. - 15 minutes job, 1 line Sew in of my own extensions cost me $210 !!!!!!! (they wash my hair and blow-dry just b/c had to accupide me for 3 hours wait) After i have been in salon for 3 and 1/2 hours I could have defiantly at list have free hair wash. I never paid more than $40 for one bread on my head. This is ridiculous experience. I would NOT come back again. 2 stars only for the way sew in felt on the hair- thin. thats it :( read more

I've been going to Nadia Vassell for over 2 years (since moving back to NYC) and have had nothing but positive experiences. Initially I went to Nadia to have my weave installed and I later learned how talented she is at straightening, styling and maintaining my natural hair. While she does an excellent job styling and maintaining weave styles, she also ensures your hair is properly maintained & remains healthy underneath. I've switched back & forth between wearing my natural hair & wearing a sew in weave. She is also an amazing colorist! I'd never experimented with color the way I have with Nadia and I've been extremely pleased with the results. Highly recommended! read more

Nadia is a great stylist and she has amazing junior stylists working with her as well. I first started seeing Nadia a few years ago. Travel and expense prompted me to have to head elsewhere for a period of time until a few weeks ago when I had a massive hair emergency with a salon that was clueless as to how to handle my hair. Nadia and her team saw me immediately and I think my hair is now back on the right track (no pun intended). They were like a hair ER! I'm now really happy with a shorter beach wave 'do. I don't live too far from the salon and have always seen girls leave Nadia's with these glamazon locks and most importantly always smiling! I have shoulder length curly hair and was really hoping for a Grecian/Roman braid updo for my Oct wedding which is hard to do when you don't have the hair length or fullness for it...I decided to go in for a free trial after some other LES salons were unable to replicate what I wanted. Why not, the consult was free, what did I have to lose?! I came in one Saturday morning and Nadia and her jr assistants were so welcoming! Best of all, she was able to replicate what I was looking for on my wet, messy head in under 20 minutes! It was just so easy for her that I knew right then and I would get exactly what I wanted for my big day. The day of my wedding, Nadia and her assistants welcomed me and my 2 bridesmaids with open arms. DON'T GO!!! I started going to Nadia Vassell early Spring to get my relaxed hair done. I read mixed reviews before my appointment which should have been a red flag but figured it was just a fluke- I should have listened to the poor reviews. My past visits Nadia Vassell salon were just okay. Not the exact hairstyle that I really wanted but figured within time Nadia would get it right. She is probably better at doing weaves because it does not require that much skill. My last and final visit to the salon, Nadia Vassell had her assistant shampoo my hair. While I was getting my hair shampooed Nadia walked by with a container filled with a white creamy substance that was either bleach or relaxer. She dropped it on the floor and some of it splashed onto me. Luckily I thought, I was wearing a smock so it did not get on my clothing only onto the smock which she wiped off. It wasn't until I arrived home that I realized my dress was bleached stained in the exact same location the white cream landed. The dress was ruined and no longer available for purchase another one. I quickly brought the matter to Nadia's attention to see if she could possibly reimburse me for the dress or something. It was brand new, and that was my first and only time wearing it which is why I contacted her. She apologized for the incident and then implied that I must have bumped into her tray with the bleach and would not compensate me. I explained in detail the steps that led to the incident, and even sent her a photo of the dress stained. However, she still insisted it was my fault that I bumped into her tray and offered a comp deep conditioner treatment or trim???? I was sitting in the shampoo chair! Since the cost of the dress was worth more than a $25 deep conditioner I suggested a free shampoo would be fair. She NEVER responded. What business owner would ignore a regular customer?? What business owner would try to blame the customer for their mistake? NADIA VASSELL would. I was disgusted. I left it alone, and decided not to return to Nadia Vassell Salon. I have continued to received emails from Nadia Vassell Salon requesting me to schedule another appointment- was she kidding???? Why would I ever return? Today, I sent Nadia Vassell an email kindly requesting her to remove me from her mailing list. I also expressed how disappointed I was on how she handled things. She replied by saying she was, "Not going to go back and forth with me". She was nasty about it and still insists the stain was my fault. She has poor customer service skills which makes her a lousy business owner. I have shared this experience to friends and family and they all agreed NADIA VASSELL did not handle the matter professionally. Her offer of a $25 treatment and blaming me is insulting. DON'T GO. I am sure she is going to try and discredit me like she did with the other unsatisfied customers which is typical with unprofessional business owners. Go with you gut, DON'T GO. Dear Nadia, Your response is inaccurate. I remember my actions of that day vividly. I NEVER "brushed" against a tray that had color. It happened because you, Nadia Vassell, dropped color which landed on my smock and went through it onto my dress. The fact that you still will not admit that you ruined my dress shows your unwillingness to take responsibility for your actions. I was very reasonable in asking for a service that was equivalent to the value of my dress. You chose not to put the customer first and insist that the color got on my dress another way. All of this goes against the principle of "the customer Is right". I was never completely satisfied so it was no loss when I stopped visiting your salon.
