After supporting the Creedmoor Road location for 4 years, Im going back to ACE. Manager, Amber, still doesnt know my name and I frequent several times per month. Ive never seen her smile. The new kid cashier is as disengaged as she is; hired her clone. Horrible experience today with that young man as he has received zero customer service training. Very poor management and leadership. Clarence and Jeff are the only two that even make an effort to build customer relationships. I was willing to pay TCH premium prices to support a place that used to appreciate my business. I enjoy having a hardware store in the neighborhood if I quickly need to pick up one or two items and don't want to trek through Lowe's or Home Depot. The staff is friendly and helpful, and all the times I've been there it hasn't been very busy so a staff member greeted me at the door and was able to immediately direct me to the aisles with the items I need. However, I would not recommend getting keys made here. When I went to get copies of two keys the staff told me to save my receipt in case there was a problem, which might have been a sign! While one of the keys worked, the other didn't. I returned to the store again, and the manager cut me a new key, which also didn't work. I returned to the store for a third time to get a refund before going to Lowe's to use the automated machine. That key worked perfectly the first time, so save yourself the trips and frustration and head there first! read more

My experience was fantastic. I came in with an expensive set of Bose Headphones, which were missing an impossibly small screw, yet was absolutely necessary. I was helped by Leland, as polite and professional as they come, who without hesitation, accepted my challenge as if it were his own. We tried multiple avenues, some showed promise, others did not. The assistant store manager Pete got involved, and 30 minutes later, this collaborative duo had a fix. This may sound trivial, but the headphones are a critical component of my work. Lie if you want them to cut a car key with a transponder. They cut two transponder keys for me a few years ago, but balked when I tried to get some cut this week. The employee said that some cars will be disabled if you program the transponder incorrectly. I said I take full responsibility the keys and that I had programmed this exact car with their cut keys a few years ago. I even offered to sign a sheet of paper to that effect. I understand the warning, but I don't understand the refusal. They don't say "oh, you could burn your house down if you install that outlet yourself, hire an electrician." or "you could flood your house if you don't sweat that copper pipe correctly, hire a plumber." I went to Lowes and they cut the keys. I followed the instructions for my 2010 Toyota Sienna (at your own risk, but it basically goes... open door, shut door, insert original non-valet key in and out 4 times and leave in the 5th time but don't turn, open driver door 6 times, take out original key, insert newly cut transponder key from your favorite online retailer and turn to on position and leave on until red key light stops flashing after a minute or two, then remove new key and turn car on with original key - viola). New keys worked like a charm and the van started up and was driven. Thank you Lowes. I love having a locally owned hardware store very near my house, but they need to get a clue. read more

I have become a convert from Lowe's/Home Depot to this Ace store for two reasons. For one, it's much easier to get in and out of and it's closer to my house. Second, and most importantly, upon entering the store a knowledgeable employee will greet me and ask how they may help. Then they will lead me to where I need to go and boom, I'm done. At Lowe's I end up wandering around the caverns of that building - back and forth, is it here? down there? did I pass it? - until I'm exhausted. Ace pretty much covers 99% of what most people go to the big box stores for and the prices are not significantly higher. The time and energy saved more than makes up for an increase in cost. Plus they're very friendly. read more

Not bad. But this is not an Ace Hardware. Selection seems thin. Some products are out of date and past dusty.

This place is great--it's super convenient to my house, it is not such an expansive cavern that it takes half an hour to walk to the one can of paint that I need, and there are always (always!) employees willing to help. The last time I was in there I had a nice chat with an employee over different approaches to completing a project. I never get this kind of customer service from the big box stores. Even if Ace is more expensive (and I'm not convinced that's the case), the time savings is completely worth it. read more

I am writing a second review for Ace Town and Country because having the convenience of a neighborhood hardware store that has employees who actually know something - well I'm concerned this will become a thing of the past as large conglomerates take over (Amazon). Ace has the things I need - bird seed, items for small projects around the house, gardening supplies. They serve a niche in our neighborhood and they do it well. Just purchased a Big Green Egg from them 2 weeks ago. I went in to pick up my "egg" and all of the attachments and noticed a "fathers day special" of $150.00 off the purchase of these grills. So... I asked for the discount, and I GOT IT! Excellent Customer Service! I spoke with the manager "Lee" several times and he always did exactly what he said he would do. I would give this company a negative number, because thanks to them, I'm about $400 poorer. I'm like one of those fat girls who loses a lot of weight but then still thinks like the fat girl -- I used to own a Durango, but now I have a Mini Cooper. I thought that two Adirondack chairs would fit in her -- I was wrong. Well not totally -- they fit, but they only fit after one of the employees ripped a part of my interior from shoving the chair in my car (around the time I had said "I can leave one here -- I just live one exit away" "I can get it in, ma'am."). I was feebly trying to put the chairs in my car when an employee was nice enough to come over and offer to help. That is when he ripped the part of my interior. At the time I heard an odd noise, which just sounded like that noise you make when you run something against the roof of your car, almost like a zipper being zipped. I should have said something when I heard that noise, but when I heard it, the employee looked in my car and said nothing. It's my fault for trusting him to report that he had ripped something. So I drove home, took the cute little chairs out, took a nap, and then went to run errands -- I noticed an odd look, and it was the ripped part. So I thought "This is annoying, but they'll at least pay for half of it -- it can't be that bad." I was also wrong about that -- it cost about $450 total. I went back the next day, and showed the employee what he had done to my car. He said "oh... Give me your number and I'll get in touch with you." I didn't blame him, I didn't yell, call him names, demand money... I just told him factually what had happened, and told him how much the dealership had quoted me for a repair. He called me and told me he needed proof of the estimate. So I brought him the estimate, and his manager/owner's wife called me. Wow, what an awful experience. She also, like the people at Durham Take-Out who I talked to, must not have been trained in the "customer is always right" business. In essence, she said that I had ripped it when I got the chair out (the hole was a hole-punch shape, not a long tear) or when I went over a bump (right, because everyone knows the bottom of Adirondack chairs are sharp and can puncture things), that the store's insurance wasn't going to pay for it because of the aforementioned reasons, and that I changed my story (I had worked the night before, gotten a few hours of sleep and had just woken up when I spoke with her -- I didn't realize that in order for Ace Hardware to pay ANYTHING, I had to have rehearsed the conversation beforehand so I could say, on a 100% accurate timeline, what had happened). They paid nothing. Didn't offer to pay my deductible, half of the total cost... Nothing. The woman had an accusatory tone in her voice when she spoke with me, wouldn't meet me even halfway, and said that she was siding with her employee... So, I returned the chairs and told the employee who took the return what had happened. I believed HER apology much more than the one offered by the "manager" and it sounded much better than the LACK of apology from the employee who ripped it in the first place. Yet, her apology didn't pay for the repair. read more

Great customer attention. Unlike the big box stores, the employees notice when you look like a deer in headlights and they actually speak to you, typically using very foreign words like: "may I help you find something". Or like the employee that apologized for spending too much time looking something up for me on the Internet. Granted, that apology would never be necessary at one of the big box stores. read more
