So good!! My friend and I ate outside on their pretty large outdoor patio which was super nice! Southern Village is a nice community area. Our server was super sweet, a fellow UNC student! They have a really large menu- I can guarantee everyone could find something they would like. I got the grilled chicken sandwich with the mushrooms, grilled onions, pickled cucumber, gouda, etc and it was amazing. My friend got the southwest salad and enjoyed it. They have special menu items named after UNC basketball players such as Armondo and Seth Trimble which is fun. The players are actually pictured eating their specific menu item at the restaurant. I haven't been here in a while and last time I had the wings they were moist and more flavorful. These tasted over cooked and a bit dry. The side salad was just ok. The lettuce kinda wilty in spots and the overall salad wasn't my favorite. Location is spot on as it's walkable and the staff nice. But the food did not live up to past experiences here. Decided to give these mouth breathers another chance after getting food poisoning from them before....BIG MISTAKE! Should point again, yes, I got food poisoning from them last time. I ordered ahead of time, running a few errands and when I got to the restaurant they were still working on it. Fine, so I sit at the bar, right by their expo station. The incompetent woman working that station was letting what looked to be my burger and other people's to-go orders just sit in the window, unwrapped. The genius who owns this place apparently decided not to put in food warmers in his expo station....so I got a cold burger and cold sweet potato fries. I pointed this out to the manager and made him aware that the last time I got food poisoning and his response....didn't take responsibility AT ALL! No offer of refund, no nothing. To the manager's meager credit, he did order a re-fire on my order. That being said, when I got it home (10 min drive) fries were cold, burger barely warm and completely lacking in flavor. Folks, if you read my reviews on the regular, ya know I'm not a Karen, I'm not a complainer customer. If I give a bad review it's cuz the business DESERVED IT and cuz IT WAS BAD! Went on a weekday afternoon and received our food extremely quickly. I believe our waiter was named Ryan(?) and he was the main reason why it was so pleasant to eat out. I also got the Townhall burger, which was pretty good, but I felt like the bacon definitely was overpowering (that just my weird taste), if you like bacon, that's definitely a burger for you. I am a little disappointed that the burgers are around $15 (on the cheaper side of the menu) and in order to get another side you're charged another $1.50. A friend introduced me to the Town Hall Grill a few weeks ago. I am glad that she did. I am smitten with the pineapple side down cake here. You have to try this dessert! It's is everything! I have also enjoyed the chicken wings, and the tater tots loaded with cheese, sour creams and pulled bbq. My orders have been served fresh and in a timely manner. I appreciate the attention to detail that the kitchen crew uses when preparing orders. I enjoy the environment of the location. The decor is complete with UNC memorabilia and the customer service is great here! The employees do a wonderful job at making customers feel welcomed. Our waiter, Alex, couldn't have made our visit more fun! Welcoming, nice, humorous, and answered all our questions as first time guests. We both enjoyed our meals. I had the nachos for lunch, which is definitely more than I could eat. My spouse really like the fish, but not as crazy about the fries that have a coating on them and the slaw is blah with a funky flavor. I love a good sports bar and grill, and THG had everything just right. The wings were flavorful and cooked perfectly, the beers were cold, the outdoor seating was plentiful and they were playing both the World Cup and then the UNC game too. Dined at the bar on a Friday night. Granted, they were busy but I felt invisible the whole time I was there. The wings were very good. The Peruvian chicken was dry and overcooked, and the mashed potatoes weren't completely mashed and had chunks of raw potatoes in them. The gin and tonic tasted like pure tonic water. Ordered a dozen wings and half of them were still raw after the first bite, it also took 15 minutes to get drinks and there were maybe 5 tables in the restaurant. I asked to speak to a manager and nobody came over. I actually had to get up to find someone to ask for the check. Done with this place, it might be considered a locals spot, but that will only last so long if they keep giving this type of food and service. We ordered food for pickup and we were automatically charged 18% for tip. Normally, I tip a few dollars but I didn't realize when I hit the Apple Pay that it was added. They also add a pick up fee to your order... never seen that before. So we spent 43$ on a pick up order for a burger and a salad with grilled chicken. Where did the old staff go?? We were seated outside after a brief wait. Our server forgot to bring menus, and took way too long to bring our sweet tea and iced water. Finally we put in our orders. The Shrimp app was good if slightly fishy smelling, sadly the burger was over cooked and there were hardly any Fries, it used to be a heaping portion now it's a flat layer. Pasta dish was bland. I got a table right away and was greeted by a friendly waitress. Looking around it's for sure a Tarheels bar, but the decor is not all sports - industrial lighting and minimalistic shiplap type walls update the space. It's a bit confused, but nice. My base deciding factor on any bar/pub type restaurant is the quality of wings. Town Hall Grill delivers! I got the tequila lime wings and they were crispy, juicy, delicious. My mom was with me and she got the iceberg wedge salad and it was huge and she enjoyed it. That's all we had, so I'll keep it simple and say I'd go back when in the area. Although I have visited this restaurant several times, have always enjoyed the food, it is ordering the food that has me question dining at this establishment. We have had a 50/50 experience with waitstaff. Some are great, attentive and address you right away. Others will pass you by over and over, without a greeting, a hello, or an acknowledgement. We have even had the owner address us because of the lack of attentiveness. My last (and probably final) attempt at eating at the Town Grill, my partner and I waited 10 minutes with the waitstaff crossing our table before we just left without acknowledgement, much like the service we received. If you are thinking about dining here, you may be pressing your luck. Have a backup plan. read more

This place was a miss for me. I recently moved into the neighborhood and was looking for a quick bite to eat so I stopped by to order some chicken wings. I brought it back home to eat and it was quite overcooked and the jumbo wings were as tough as beef jerky to eat. The flavors weren't there at all and barely tossed in sauce. read more

The restaurant was a very distinct miss for me. This review is based on my brunch experience on Sunday October 23, 2022. Place was moderately busy .. did not seem to have adequate serves to address all the needs of the tables. Saw manager go to several tables to check on patrons during my dining experience and help address their concerns. Curiously enough, he avoided my table like the plague. Ordered chicken and waffles. My guest ordered french toast. She loved the french toast. My waffles were cold, burned, and tasted stale. Chicken was hot ... but was dry. Sauce was supposed to be a ghost reaper maple syrup. No spice whatsoever. Just tasted like simple maple syrup. No problem, if that is all you are expecting. Our waiter was hijacked to handle a large table. Poor guy was very apologetic as he never got back to check on us and see if we liked out food for about 20 minutes .... I of course was not happy with the order but by that point my companion was done, and we needed to leave for another engagement, so there was no opportunity to get anything else or a new order of the dish. Once I indicated how disappointed I was with the dish, everyone steered clear of the table. The server was kind enough to take the meal off the bill at least. I paid and left. Next time, will go to brunch at Flair Restaurant in Governors Village about 10 minutes away. A little more expensive but have never had a bad experience in quality of food. read more

Went here on an accident lunch date with my partner Lol. My partner got the Alfredo with just the veggies and I got the bean burger with fries. We also got zucchini fries. It was mediocre. For the price it wasn't worth it. The plates and everything were fancy but eh. The bean burger made me have diarrhea very bad. About 5-10 mins after I ate it. I had to get to the restroom. The service was nice they were very attentive. Overall 3/10. Wouldn't recommend it has an okay vibe. Also one of the servers was very loud and cussing with some of the people in the restaurant. Very poor customer service in addressing an error/issue on their part. I found a rubber band in my south west salad on 5/17/24. The manager and GM poorly handled the issue and insinuated that the rubber band did not come from restaurant, after the manager initially stated that the rubber band came from their produce! Simply owning their error and being concerned about the customer's experience in their establishment should have been of greater concern. Instead focus was on attempting to deny their screw up & expecting me to pay for a "replacement" salad. The manager and GM should be ashamed of how this situation was handled. We come here very often. Burgers are very flavorful. Their brioche bun is fantastic with their burger patty. Only thing I would change in their burger is to change the green lettuce to iceberg lettuce for more texture. I love their fries. Fries are out of this world. Crunchy and fresh. Chicken wings are good/ batter is on the sweeter side than I like but it is tender inside and crunch on the out. I love their beer collection and seasonal beers from the microbrews. But one of the biggest FAILS was serving a flank steak for $17. This is the cheapest pieces of meat and barely qualifies as steak. Two stars ... and that's being generous. This used to be our go-to place for a beer and dinner/lunch. It has fallen so far, I am not sure it will be able to recover to what it once was.There were three other tables there, and two people at the bar - my point being - it wasn't crowded. I will start with the few good things about this place: (1) the outdoor patio area (2) the convenience of the location (3) it just went through a minor interior update which was needed and is well done (4) it's a great place to watch a game. And unfortunately none of those reasons are enough to get us to return ever again. Here are the reasons why: (1) The beer, draft beer, was not nearly cold enough. (2) There were at least 7 people working, and 2 of those 7 were actually working. The others were talking to each other, watching the game, rubbing their facial hair, looking at their phones, and so on. (3) Our server seemed annoyed we were there, stood there while I tasted the sample of beer I asked for (awkward, and give me some time), forgot to bring our water, didn't check on us after our food was served, but suddenly became very friendly when it was time to give us our check. (4) We ordered pretzels, which I've ordered more than once so I knew they were good, but NOT this time! They were cooked at too high of a temperature so they were literally blistered on the outside yet not cooked enough on the inside. The cheese sauce was also cold and should have been hot. (5) We also ordered the new app with tater tots, pork, cheese,etc., and this was actually okay - we'd suggest adding a side of bar-b-que sauce. What surprised us is that the server asked us if it was good because she "hadn't tasted this yet." Um What? Isn't that management 101? Your servers taste every item on the menu? At least the restaurants I've worked at it is. (6) The owner was present and visible the entire time, and didn't do anything to change any of this; he was part of the 5 I mentioned in #2.
