Town Square Tavern (under new management) took over the former Luca's and Pho Keene Great spaces in the City Hall building in Downtown Keene. They are presently open for dinner 5 nights a week and weekend brunch service, 10am to 2:30pm. The place has the main bar area with seating and table seating on the left side and separate dining rooms to the right side. The bar offers 8 draft beers, wine list, cocktails, digestifs, and non-alcoholic drinks. The food menu offers a selection of appetizers, salads, burgers, steak frites, pasta dishes, risotto, seafood, chicken dishes, and desserts. The weekend brunch selections also include stuffed French toast, omelettes, benedicts (crab cake & lobster), croque madame, eggs & bacon, steak sandwich, & a dry aged burger. The prices are moderate high. I stopped by here around 1:50pm for brunch. I headed to the bar and took a seat. I was informed the kitchen was closing at 2pm, dining room/bar closes at 2:30pm and reopens at 5pm for dinner service. I promptly got my food order in, choosing regular food items also on the dinner menu. For a starter, the Steamed Mussels ($16 plus tax) had 20 steamed mussels with slices of Spanish dry cured chorizo, garlic, oven cured tomato in a savory hot broth, with 3 slices of charred soirdough bread slices to dip. For an entree, the Braised Short Rib Cavatelli ($24 plus tax) was a good portion of soft cooked cavatelli, tender lean pieces of short rib, mushrooms, truffle, creme fraiche. The sauce and flavors were similar to a stroganoff type dish, pretty good overall. I did request a box for the cavatelli to eat later. Overall, the food was pretty good and freshly prepared. The service was slightly rushed receiving my food together at the same time (I actually prefer this) and check presented before I was done, which came out to $43.40 with tax and before tip. I would stop by again for brunch so I could get the breakfast items. read more

Delicious is underrated for Town square Tavern in Keene. Every dishes are phenomenal. The flovors, the textures, the presentation are so well-balance with French touches. One of a kind restaurant for sure. Cloth lining bacon's signature dish of David Burke. It Is very mouthwatering and activated my palate for first course. AKA droolingg while the staffs torching the bacon. Wings and Rings are very unique. The calamari rings are crispy on the outside and tender on the inside (NOT RUBBERY). Wings glazed are the mixture of sweet, savory, and tad bit of spicy. BEST mussels I've ever had. Plum and juicy in a buttery bursting flavor broth. Crispy skin salmon. I usually only eat raw salmon but I enjoy crispy salmon skin on top of ratatouille whole lot. Wild mushrooms risotto is wicked creamy and full of flavor and the crunchy of pepita (pumpkin seeds?) just elevates the dish, along with sweet eggplant for finishing touch. it is so smooth. Desserts are delicious with Flourless chocolate cake and Cinnamon roll cake with vanilla ice cream and caramel drizzle. I am so glad to have such a great french/artisan restaurant in New Hampshire. I can't forget about Eliza for great service. And theirs raspberry lemonade is so refreshing with fresh raspberry for some acidic drink. We were looking for a place to eat in Keene, and they had seats outside (it was a beautiful evening). So we decided it was a good opportunity to try them out..The food was awesome! I got the Braised Short Ribs Gnocchi. The meat was melt in your mouth tender. The sauce was full of flavor. And the gnocchi were as light as you can expect a gnocchi to be. But it held the sauce as you put each one in your mouth. My wife got the Artisan Cheese Ravioli, although she asked them to not include the peas in the sauce. Her ravioli was spectacular. Cheesy, crunchy with a breadcrumb parmesan cheese coating, in a very flavorful sauce (even without the peas). Some of the negative reviews were based on service (one even said the food was great). Service was very good, just having to wait a little for our second glass of wine. But in the last few years, we have decided that if we go out to eat, it is going to be relaxed, without any stress. And this was a wonderful relaxing dinner outside on a beautiful summer evening. We even got to listen to the town concert on the square. read more

Miss Luca's! Luca's was an establishment, always gracious, professional, and had great salads. I arrived around a little after 4p, was told they "were closed", and would not open for another 20 minutes, the bartender/hostess was less than professional. I sat at the bar to order a glass of wine (it was a long day!) and all of a sudden was whisked outside to the "patio". No explanation, nothing. The waiter came out a few minutes later and was more than gracious, he spent the time speaking to me, he explained Luca's had closed and the owners wanted a new start. He told me "chef was leaving". The salad I ordered was mediocre at best. I think the chef would be best at a high end restaurant, and the bartender needs to change her attitude, I did not feel welcome, kudo's to the waiter, he was terrific. Luca's come back! read more

We went out to lunch for our anniversary. My husband had a burger, I had pasta bolognese. We enjoyed our meals. It was a Friday & we were the only customers, but by the time we left there were only two other couples. People did stop & look at the menu posted in the window, but moved on. My wife and I took a recent trip through Massachusetts, Vermont, and New Hampshire to visit friends. We stayed the night in Keene NH and looked for a good meal. We certainly found it. from our salads, through our entrees, and our desserts, everything impressed. The service was wonderful. This was one of the best meals that I can remember. Stopped in for the first time since this replaced the Mediterranean place that was in the location previously. I was impressed! Great upscale, pub, food, had the steak sandwich with chimichurri sauce and it was excellent. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable, food served promptly. I didn't get a chance to try the craft cocktails, but they looked intriguing, and the beer selection was good. We went there a few weeks ago when it was called Luca's. It was great . Made a reservation for last night and was so disappointed. We showed up on time and the hostess had no idea what she was doing which is okay . We sat at the bar and no one came up for about 10 minutes . We have never walked out of the restaurant like we did last night. So happy we were able to get a table at the Stage. Love that place . The management at Town Square Tavern should do better at training their staff how to acknowledge customers and do the "customer service" jobs . read more

Previous restaurant LUCA's a hard act to follow, and there is a lot of competition for this kind of restaurant. Had pros and cons. Pros: nicely redone inside, good music playing- not too loud. Got a burger, called "blended" do not know what that is. Big patty on an oversized but not big enough English muffin. Tasty but messy. Supposed to come with a pickle, but did not. Description better than actuality but Fries came with it...mediocre. The table next to ours ask for mayo but never got it. I ask for ketchup, never got it, but the mayo-less table had some ketchup and we borrowed theirs. My wife got "crispy" Brussel sprouts that were not crispy but were good (not as good as the legendary sprouts at Longhorn). They have elevated prices but who does not. The kicker came on the check where they expected at least a calculated 20% tip...but it said that percentage included a tip on the tax...outrageous. With the Stage, Fritz, Local and others nearby, a better choice there. read more

Five of us arrived for a birthday celebration. Our reserved table was ready. I think they were very understaffed last night which may explain our poor experience in part. We waited for 15 minutes just to have water brought to the table. Next we ordered 3 cocktails and 2 sodas and asked for more water. The hostess was also the bartender and had zero experience making drinks. She made two, a mojito with one dead mint leaf as a garnish and a margarita, but forgot the salt rim. Those two drinks sat on the bar for at least 10 minutes maybe more, while she tried to figure out how to make the third, a Bloody Mary. The waitress finally brought the first two, which were completely watered down by the ice that was in them while they sat on the bar for too long. The waitress said the bartender can't make the Bloody Mary, because it's her first day and she doesn't know how. About 15 minutes later the waitress took our food order. After 10 more minutes she came back to report they couldn't provide the salmon and would I like something else. I asked for a menu and again, for more water. She didn't return for my replacement order or with water, it was as though she disappeared. My friend got up and went to give my food order to the bartender/hostess and to grab a pitcher of ice water that was sitting on the bar. The bartender/hostess made a snarky remark about her taking the water pitcher and suggested the waitress would come fill our glasses except that she didn't, ever. So we took the pitcher. The food was delivered. The burgers were advertised to be on brioche buns, but they weren't. One came as ordered the other, the forgot the cheese. Both people reported the burgers to be similar to McDonalds. The patties were not fresh, but preformed frozen. The pasta Diablo was marginal. One of the mussels wasn't open and that person pointed it out to the waitress, thinking they were fresh and that it might be a bad one. Just after that, the Chef came to the table to assure us that he would not get sick, that the mussels were frozen not fresh. The power bowl was similarly missing that wow factor. It had lettuce, cucumbers, tomato, rice and edamame but little flavor. The bill came with overcharges for the cocktails. All in all, we won't be rushing back to the Town Square Tavern anytime soon. read more

I'm going to start by stating the food was delicious. The beet salad was terrific, the dressing was perfect. The bolognese was very good. This was the second time in 2 weeks I've had dinner here. Both times the food was great. Both times our servers were fantastic. However, when I walked in to request outdoor seating from the hostess, she said of course. Then the bartender/Manager rudely yelled at us across the room, No, outdoor seating will be 5-10 mins. This seemed strange because it was not busy at all outside or inside. I then requested a server that I had the last time I was there. Again the hostess said of course, but the bartender/Manager yelled at us saying "no she doesn't have a table in her area". I actually almost left. I'm not sure I have ever been yelled at trying to get a seat or requesting a server. I told the hostess, just seat us where you can outside please. She did. We got our drinks & food, everything was great until the bartender/Manager started to berate & yell at one of the servers in front of us & the other tables. This girl started to cry, our server was upset & looked terrified also. He apologized & I told him I've never seen an employee so disrespected & humiliated in front of customers before. It was completely unprofessional. I totally understand the service industry is difficult, however treating another person this way is disgusting. I honestly can't not fathom keeping this woman as a Manager. Belittling & humiliating your employees is not befitting of any type of manager. read more

Went on a Thursday evening. Restaurant was fairly empty however it took a significant amount of time for someone to come to the host station. The person responsible for this task was spending a fair amount of time talking with other staff while another party in front of us and we waited. Finally realized we were waiting and they sat the other party but spent a significant amount of time talking to them at their table while we continued to wait. We eventually just went to the bar. We hesitated because there were dirty dishes at the bar where the seats were so we did not want to just sit and make the bartender uncomfortable. Eventually they cleared the bar because we did sit. Witnessed the table that was seated before us receive bread while waiting. We asked for the same but it never arrived. We asked multiple times and it still never arrived. The bartender was very nice and very new. She asked the kitchen multiple times but it appears she was completely ignored. She apologized to us which is respectable but not her fault. One dish was tasty the other not so much. I understand it is a new establishment but that is the time to be extra attentive to your guests especially since it was not busy. read more
