Love the ambiance and the layout, perfect for group gatherings or low-key hangouts; great, local beers on tap, as well as a wide choice of mixed drinks. My only gripe was the fried chicken. Super hip place for a drink, any time of day, and THE BEST fried chicken sandwich I've ever had. Period. My friend Louise and I visited last week, with zero expectations- we didn't look it up beforehand, except to ensure they were open. At first, I'll be honest, we were both a little bit perplexed at The menu because it had like six items on it. But, it was 11:30AM on a Thursday AND it was clear by the other customers, this was a tavern: meaning awesome place for booze!! We both ordered the friend chicken sandwich with fries and practically licked our plates clean. Juicy, crispy, moist. Wowza! Don't let "jalapeño slaw" provoke you to ask them to leave it off - it's mad-flavor with little to no heat. And the bun is perfection. Neither of us plan to return for drinks on a Tuesday at 11:00am but we can't wait to return for that chicken sandwich. Bravo! read more

I came here the night of a warriors game a couple weeks ago and was so impressed even weeks later that I found myself wanting to write a review. The pork belly sliders were presented meticulously and the tiny toasted buns housed the most well executed pork belly, succulant against an avocado and crisp jalepeno crunch. My wife just threw me a surprise birthday day party here and we couldn't be any happier with Town Tavern! They totally delivered with top notch service and went above and beyond our expectations. Bravo to the owner Stan and his amazing staff. We really felt taken care. Afterwards my wife told me that the whole process from booking the place to working with the Chef and Manager was pleasant and smooth. She said they were very accommodating and flexible. The food was amazing! Crab claws, scallop crudo, shrimp, sliders, grilled brussel sprouts, and chicharon to name a few. And the Chef even made us some Filipino chicken adobo! My Filipino mom and Auntie approved, so you know it was good lol. The cocktails were extraordinary. Many of my guests loved the Old Fashion. The drinks were refreshing, tasty, and they offered a wide range for everyone's taste. We both highly recommend Town Tavern for your private party or even just a night out. So glad to see this corner come alive. Grew up in Alameda and like to see folks investing in new ventures. Custom cocktails aside, I was very distressed and angry to be called a racist by a bartender that we had never met before. Why? Because in a private conversation I said to my guest: 'did you hear Elizabeth Warren announced for President?' Guest said: 'Pocahontas.' That was all. And no, we were not (and would not) wear MAGA gear or anything like that... Bartender butted in and said to us: 'There is no room in this establishment for racism.' His assumptions were astonishing. As we looked at each other with eyes wide open I said (very quietly) to my guest: 'How is that racist?' At this point the bartender was at the far end of the bar and he said 'I can still hear you!' I really wanted to like this place, but it fell flat. The service was really friendly and quick, so that was great. The menu was pretty disjointed, and it was tough for us to figure out what to order since the dishes were all over the map in terms of types of flavors (Italian, American, Asian, you name it). When the food came out, it was really bland. Nothing awful or offensive mind you, but just really under-seasoned and not flavorful. The cocktails were ok, but I requested mine with no simple syrup and it came out with simple syrup in it. My husband's cocktail (a manhattan) was also just ok-- again, bland. I would maybe come here again for a simple drink since the atmosphere and service were great, but wouldn't order food here again. I was torn between 2 and 3 stars, but bumped it up to 3 for the server, who was really nice. read more

Just a great addition to Park Street for food and cocktails. Great vibe, decor and team concept service is outstanding. Seriously, service is fast, really friendly and personable. Outstanding selection of small plates allows a delicious variety. But the cocktails....wow, about the best in Alameda, right up there with American Oak, but a little more original and creative. Super nice surprise was their new Sunday brunch. Was in line at Penca across the street for their awesome b fast, and then saw someone walk into Town Tavern and gave it a try. Man, delicate fried chicken on a slightly sweet waffle with maple syrup and the pork tacos were outstanding. And they even have a brunch specific cocktail list. Will try that next time. To wrap it up, part of a group of places that are the best of Alameda, including American Oak, CK Kitchen on Webster, Trabocco that all feature local owners doing an outstanding job with food, drink and service. read more

Could have a better beer selection (seemed to be mostly Drake's) very friendly and attentitive staff, though it was during the soft opening. The best thing about this place is the dark gray paint and the corner location. Other than that, it is nothing special. Wish they would get rid of the jumbo screens, send the sports fans to McGees, and play some jazz music instead. The ambiance is lacking. I'll be at American Oak instead. read more

We were in recently, not our first time. The food and drinks are great. I have to say that the service was somewhat lacking. The employees were nice, just VERY slow service and the place was not that busy. Standing around talking to other employees looks bad to customers who are waiting to order more food/drinks (Emily/Kate). I think customer service is one of the most important things, it will make or break an experience. Also, would love to see more vegetarian and gluten free options on the menu. I'm sure I'm not the only one. Hopefully the next visit will be a little less frustrating. Thanks! read more
