Just had brunch here this past Sunday and WOW the chicken and waffles were absolutely delicious. The hot sauce they make in house totally elevated it. I'm pretty picky when it comes to brunch especially chicken and waffles. The waffle was cooked to perfection and my chicken was flavorful and crispy. To top it off it was my birthday weekend so I was served an absolutely delicious funfetti cake with sparklers. Normally I'm not a huge cake person but this cake was so good! It reminded me of a cake I love from a New York bakery Milk Bar. Best part? Free of charge. Service was slow at times but they were understandably busy on a Sunday for brunch. Food is ok, but nothing special and not worth the wait. I usually get a salad and a veggie burger. The veggie burger lacked flavor and was a bit too dry and overcooked, it is vegetables after all. Fries were okay and the salad was decent, mixed green with balsamic. Everything was edible, but nothing was tantalizing to any of my senses. My sister initially ordered some avocado toast thing and the waitress went to put it in. It took the waitress forever to let us know they didn't have the ingredients to make it. So my sister had to change it to some smoked salmon eggs benedict. My dish came out and then a waiter comes out to bring the initial order. Hmm...I thought the kitchen couldn't make that. The waitress yelled at the waiter for bringing it out. The food went to waste. No apology to us for her mistake. She didn't even ask us if we still wanted that dish. I felt like she was being shady and wanted us to switch up to something more expensive. The truffle fries were wonderful. The BLT+A was saturated in oil and was more painful to eat than a sack of White Castles. I had to use a fork and knife because oil kept dripping out of the bread. It's been a while since I've attended the Townhouse Birmingham location, and it was an effortless experience. I sat at the bar, and I was greeted by a friendly bartender, by the name of Johndell. He provided me with a detailed summary of the updates they made to their menu and cocktail list. Johndell recommended that I try the "Detroit Soul" cocktail, and he described it as refreshingly complex. The cocktail was enjoyable, and I also had the brioche french toast. I was very impressed with how he was able to bartend, host, and serve tables. I imagine that there was an unexpected staffing issue. He maintained his composure and created a welcoming atmosphere. It's unfortunate that the service is so terrible, because the food is actually good. I always give establishments 3 strikes before I am fed up. I understand things happen; people have bad days, restaurants get busy, etc etc. Unfortunately, Townhouse Birmingham had their third strike today. I work in the area, and frequently get takeout. Every time I have gotten takeout, I have waited over 30 minutes to get my food, and once I get it, the food is COLD. Why am I waiting for cold food? And not only did I have to wait for my cold food all three times, but each time I went in there, there were NO PATRONS, and the bartender and waiters were gossiping and on their cellphones rather than paying attention to me. When I spoke up, I was given major lip, so much so that on this third visit, a patron drinking a beer at the bar spoke up. I will never go back, which is unfortunate because I like the food (when it is warm!) Townhouse- do yourself a favor and hire competent, polite employees who actually do their job. read more

I had a reservation tonight and they gave my table away as I was standing there to another party (without reservations). Once I pointed out the error they said there was nothing they could do because the other party was seated. I wait was 1.5 hours past my reservation time before A table opened up! I would not book this restaurant in advance. They clearly don't know how to manage their reservations. read more

The Townhouse in Birmingham is a quaint bar with a wide variety of food. The delicious selections, generous portions, and elaborate decor make for a wonderful evening dinner with friends. Parking is located near the restaurant at $1 an hour and the restaurant comfortably sits maybe around 15 parties at a time. Call ahead seating is available 15 minutes before arrival. Be warned as prices are on the steeper end but the quality and experience are well worth as long as you are comfortable spending $25 - $35 a person. For appetizers, I'd recommend the truffle fries and mac and cheese which both feed about 3 appetizer portions. The burgers are thick and customizable and are quite filling. Don't be afraid to try their other large plates though - the salmon is very flavorful especially with its accompaniment with shallots and a baked potato. Or be very adventurous and try their diverse daily specials. Overall - a solid experience and looking forward to stopping by again! read more

Came here for Bunch with my sister in law. Neither of us have had brunch here and actually originally intended to go to Toast across the street. I have to say I am glad we stumbled here because the food and service was great! I had the original breakfast that was delish and filling. I also had Bellinis which were delish as well. Service- we stayed for a few hours talking and from the time we sat down our server Stanley treated us with the best service! He was so nice by ensuring that we were comfortable with water, drinks, and food. It's actually funny because when we first sat down the couple next to us asked if we have been served by Stanley before. When we said no they told us that he is the BEST and is really kind. I have to agree now that I have experienced his service. In addition to Stanley, the manager checked in with us as well to make sure we were comfortable. He was also very nice! read more

On Sunday March 24th, 2024, at approximately 9:20 PM I arrived at your townhouse Birmingham location. I was greeted by the bartender who informed me that your policy was not to accommodate large parties. We agreed that it was OK to split up our party of 10 however they saw fit. We did not need to be seated together. Reluctantly she agreed to seat a party of six at 1 booth and a party of four at another. We were trying to understand the problem seeing that the restaurant was practically empty. There was only one table occupied in the entire restaurant. She went and got the manager Rico. It was at that point that we were greeted with the worst case of racism, classism and sexism I've ever experienced in my life. He repeatedly refused to seat us no matter how we were split up. He went on a small rant saying, "that's the problem with people they come in here walking around treating this place like it's their living room". We were appalled and confused. He treated us with so much disrespect that I felt like I was transported back to the 1960s. After a lengthy conversation we left the restaurant. It was a very traumatic experience. I would like to resolve this issue privately and for it not to escalate. I have video footage from the night. I encourage you to pull your video as well. Went for brunch on a Sunday at 11am. We were told there'd be a 30 min wait (which was expected) but we were seated in 15 mins. The place is very small and cramped and NOT good for groups over four (and probably even inconvenient for them). I ordered the Chef's daily special for the french toast which was cinnamon raisin french toast with a chocolate sauce and some sort of very light ice cream on the side. Interesting but extremely filling, so I only ended up eating 1/3 of my meal. Overall, I'll probably pass over this place for another when going to brunch. The reason I know this greeting was poor was because I watched the manager greet someone else joining the bar very happily and very welcoming. We ordered a second round and before she made our drinks, she then greeted one of her regulars and made his drink before ours when we ordered first. I get that regulars are important. But so turned off. I guess I was wishing I was a regular. Maybe that's the problem. I'm not too picky but I work in the service industry and I'm not just complaining for fun. and plz note: My also recent experience here was nice. It was about 2 pm on a weekday. Besides being the size of a DOLLhouse, I enjoyed the appetizers and wine. We had: - Date with a Pig Date stuff with Gorgonzola cheese & wrapped in Bacon. Date with a Pig (or as the receipt says Pig on a Date) has become a popular appetizer recently and this did not disappoint. Very good flavor. - Imported Burrata w/ basil, heirloom tomatoes, balsamic, oil & crostini. Being a Burrata snob, this was right up my alley. Totally worth the $22 bucks for cheese, tomatoes, bread and oil & balsamic. Probably sounds crazy. But if you are a restaurant that has Burrata on the menu, I am 99.9% likely to order it, as its my favorite! So good! -1 star: The wine was good, but nothing exciting. In fact, the wine prices are higher here than at Tallulah (wine bar). -1 star: If you are claustrophobic, you will not enjoy this restaurant. It is single-file through the restaurant. When the winter comes, I'm not sure where they will put people that are waiting for a table. I heard a weird rumor that the waiters will be carrying the food outside to your table? Very strange. Townhouse Bistro, Birmingham MI Don't listen to the nay sayers on Yelp for Townhouse Bistro, It's a super cool-out-of town- feeling place where great food meets a great bar! Food & Drink: Been to Fiddleheads, Tribute, Forte, or Café Via? Then you'll feel right at home, the chef at Townhouse worked at all those famous metro-Detroit eateries. The menu is small, but has all your favorites. Their signature burger is one of the best I've had. -It's no wonder-it's made from prime steak, with gooey cheese and the most fabulous caramelized onions served on nothing less but a rich, beautiful brioche bun. Their lobster roll is served on that same egg-butter laden bun. Get any of the salads-the beet salad with arugula is topped with just a touch of orange peel-mmm. It's comfort food plus. Great drink menu with drink like hot buttered rum, flavored vodkas and grapefruit flavored tequila! Atmosphere: Townhouse BISTRO (duh) is petite in size, with only a dozen or so indoor tables-but they make up for it with their outdoor space. In the summer it felt like I was in Miami on Ocean Drive sans the ocean view with bright red umbrellas, nice tables and heat lamps to extend the outdoor option as long as possible. The inside décor is very cool and well designed. Mostly hi-tops and bar stools. Try and grab a seat in the floor to ceiling front window area. There doesn't seem to be a dress code, I've seen people in jeans and after-five clothing. Heck-it's a bistro/bar. Not a great place for a large party-unless you sit outside. It's cool to see the kitchen doing their thing from the window on Pierce. Service: The waiters and waitresses are young and hip; they wear super cute uniform clothing with red suspenders, black jeans and Chuck Taylors-all part of the look of the place. They are efficient, and the tables are well attended-some of them are better than others. This past summer when they were a little busy and new- the service was a little slow. During my last visit, I was indoors and service was a lot better. The waiter and chef were very accommodating when I made a special request due to a food allergy. Price: Expect to spend the norm for a Birmingham bistro. The burger is $14-free fries included . Most of their entrees are about $20. Drinks are not bad either. If you want a cheap lunch go to Cosi or Olgas. This is good food at a good food price. Tip: Due to their small size, their kitchen shuts down for a short period between lunch and dinner. They need time to restock, so just expect drinks only from after lunch rush, to dinner. Grab or meet a friend and go to townhouse for quick getaway. Had dinner this evening and made a reservation for one of the patio greenhouses. We really enjoyed ourselves and the service was excellent. The greenhouse was heated and and provided a very intimate setting. I ordered the 12oz ribeye and it was outstanding. Chef cooked it exactly like I ordered. The large bourbon menu was a added bonus. Anytime I can enjoy a cup of Rock Hill Farms with dinner, I am not usually disappointed. read more

Townhouse is a very small restaurant and I would assume it is not easy to accommodate large parties over 5-6 max. Parking is easy. Downtown street parking or garage near by. The menu is on the smaller side but I don't trust a restaurant that has tons of items. I ordered the burger due to being told how amazing it was. I live in Chicago so it's hard to compete with some of the burger joints we have. With that being said I thought the burger was outstanding. Ordered the burger medium and was cooked perfectly. It came with cheese and sautéed onions already on it. The bun is large but very airy and light. It is a thicker burger which I typically don't care for due to ability to cook properly but they did a good job. Definitely upgrade to the truffle fries. They're fantastic. My sister and I also shared the Mac and cheese which was easily one of the best Mac and cheeses I've had outside of Kuma's in Chicago. And that's all I have to say about that. Jackée read more

While waiting in line for hostess, one of the 16 year old waitress with no mask on comes to talk to her friends behind us. To our surprise she goes to sit her friends in the last open table. The hostess then explains how there will be a wait a no open table, told her how the group that came after us were seated and told that she can "take our names" for the next available table.. yea right.. after seeing some of the reviews on here I guess they actually did us a service by not seating us. We came here for an impromptu rehearsal dinner for my brother's wedding, and I was really amazed by just how delicious my meal was. I started with one piece of the burrata toast - and I honestly had to restrain myself from eating more. My entree was the veggie burger. I chose to top mine with Cabot Cheddar, a fried egg, avocado puree, and tomatoes. It was actually divine. I'm usually more of a black bean burger kind of girl, but this was more of a blended approach between legumes and grains. The libations were equally delicious. I had the No. 5, which was an elderflower-based cocktail. On a gorgeous fall day such as today, there is nothing better than dining in a restaurant with such a nice open feeling. It almost felt as if my work lunch was a vacation for a minute. The decor is really tastefully done with much attention to detail. The window walls open to the patio & there are numerous large umbrellas if full on sunshine isn't your thing. For lunch, I had the Tuna Burrito. I was very satisfied with my choice. The lightly seared tuna is rolled up in a spinach lawash with coconut cilantro flavored rice and sriacha mayo. The tuna was so beautifully soft and fresh and the slight kick of the sriacha mayo added that extra punch of personality the flavors needed. The coconut wasn't as apparent in the rice as the cilantro was. Along side the tuna burrito was a little metal bucket of fries. The fries were pretty exceptional. Not soggy, full of flavor & had a nice hint of salt without being overpoweringly salty. It was a pricey lunch but for such fresh & delicious tuna, really $14 dollars isn't a shocking price to me. There are some really interesting details at the Townhouse. One wall has a large collection of old keys, the booths have over-sized zippers on them, waiters bring out the entrees in what looks like a tool box to the outdoor patrons. I'm not sure how Townhouse will fare in the chilly winter months but it sure was a welcoming & relaxing place to have lunch on a warm & sunny fall day. read more

What a fun place to be on a sunny day! It's hip and breezy with open windows & patio seating. Great set-up to go solo (and people watch!), go on a date or bring a group of friends. It's a bit of an upward lunge to get into the booths (but it could just be me since I'm short) and seating is on the snug side. I tried the signature Townhouse burger which had a nice presentation on a wooden cutting board with fries in what looked like a miniature frying basket. Both 'regular' and truffle fries hit the ying in crunch and the yang in salt. When you actually take a look at the burger, you'll realize that it's nearly as big as your face. With a very plump brioche bun and an enormous patty, I dissected mine into quarter pieces before attempting to eat it. As a burger enthusiast, dare I say that 10oz is too much for a burger?!? The patty itself is aged at 28 days and was good. Unfortunately, the bourbon-glazed onions and aged white cheddar are just an after thought since the main focal tastes are brioche and patty. It's a shame because those are wonderful flavors but they sort of get lost in the burger. This signature burger is $19 with fries which is on the high side (in my opinion) but they have have more 'economic' options if you 'build your own burger'. read more

I had the opportunity to try out their vegetarian burger, which is a house made patty and was very impressed. I thought it was hearty and filling and more importantly flavorful. The patty contains black beans and brown rice along with some condiments of arugula, tomato, and cheese. It's one of the better house made veggie burgers in the area at a place that doesn't specialize in vegetarian food. As an omnivore, I thoroughly enjoyed it and would gladly seek it out again.
