I am so impressed by the sushi bowl here! The fish quality is absolutely top-notch--incredibly fresh, vibrant, and so tender it practically melts in your mouth. There is zero fishy aftertaste, which is exactly what separates high-end sushi from the rest. Even the knife work was precise, making the presentation as beautiful as it was delicious. Add on noodle soup is a must!! The decor and vibe of this place made me feel like in Japan.

    Otoro and wagyu, bowlers choice

The otoro and the a5 wagyu were the best things I've tried during my trip to Vancouver, expensive but worth it! This spot was fcfs but it took the 2 of us maybe 20 min to get in on a Saturday night at around 745pm. The bowling theme is adorable and the staff is extremely friendly. I felt like the sashimi we had was very high quality and I got to try some things that I haven't seen on other menus. They made it extra special for my boyfriend's birthday by dimming the lights and bringing out some sorbet with a sparkler. Thank you for the lovely experience!

This place never disappoints. Been here a few times and each time the taste is just the same or better. I love to get the "today's" dishes where items change based on the availability and season. Uni sampler is a good way to try different kinds of local and Japanese uni. Udon comes as a side addition to a main. Ocean & land treasure box comes in limited quantity. Staff is always friendly and this is the location upstairs.

Been wanting to try this place for a while, as it's hard to find a kaisendon place in Vancouver. We got the salmon and yellowtail bowls, both presented beautifully! I enjoyed the variety within the salmon bowl (different preparations). While I do think some of the prices are a bit steep, our bowls ($28 each) weren't the worst. I'd maybe return for a special occasion.

This gorgeous Japanese feast spoiled me with every luxurious bite, the fresh seafood bowl and melt-in-your-mouth beef topped with uni and roe were simply irresistible. My taste buds are already begging for another little date here, so I'd happily return someday and enjoy it all over again.

Saw a friend come here for their 3-bowl don and was very intrigued by the concept and also how the quality would be. I learnt that they're a new restaurant opened up by the same group as Raisu/Rajio/Kingyo, so I know that they wouldn't disappoint. We went on Valentines Day around 2:30pm and was fortunate enough to not have to wait too long (only around 10mins max)! The interior is super cute with a nostalgic diner feel. I wanted to order the 3-bowl set for lunch, but the selection for that day was kinda mid, so I opted for the bluefin feast bowl instead. I was NOT disappointed at all. The fish was so fresh and I feel like it was reasonably priced for all the fish that we got. When they said generous serving of tuna tartare, they were not lying. There was so much!!!!! Also really enjoyed all the different cuts of tuna; but my favourite was chu-toro for sure. Perfect balance between melt-in-your-mouth and having a bit of bite. It is a bit expensive, but they load up on the fish so I feel like it's worth the splurge meal once in awhile especially if you're missing Japan!

Went for an impromptu dinner after seeing their ads on Instagram. Part of the same group as Kingyo and Raisu, Toyokan seems to specialise in raw donburi, with options like uni and a variety of different seafood. They were having a new salmon festival menu, so we got The Champion ($32 for King Salmon version), which has five raw and five aburi'd salmon, served with ikura and flaked salmon over a bed of rice. There was also supposed to be a tartare, but I honestly couldn't taste it. Overall, it will scratch your itch if you want a bowl, but I think they should serve it with sushi rice. Another pet peeve is that not only do they not have pickled ginger, but the wasabi doesn't seem authentic and appears to be made using horseradish.

Stopped by for dinner on NYE. I was shocked that they were able to accommodate during a holiday without reservations. It's upstairs behind a curtain. The service was great. Our server was very thorough in explaining the menu. The only part I wasn't too keen on was the timing for our food. It was a table of 3 and one of us got food long before the 2nd and by the time the 3rd person (me) got my food, the 1st person was about 1/2 way done with their meal. The portions are fair for the price and the fish and uni was extremely fresh and melt in your mouth tender. The rice was perfectly cooked (each grain held its own, "Asian Al Dente"). I strongly recommend this place if you are a seafood fan. Casual enough for a get together and nice enough for a cute date night.

Fun, flavorful, and unique! This was our first stop on our Vancouver trip. We love Vancouver as it has a diverse and delicious array of food options. And this place is no exception!! What a fun experience! Sushi was yummy and fresh, service was great, ambience was quirky and casual. I wish we had something like this is Seattle!

I am thrilled that we get to enjoy Uni and other seafood from Japan at Toyokan Bowl. I like that their menu offers food at a good range of price points, from regular seafood bowls of $20ish to special sharable dishes at higher prices. The tuna and uni we tried were fresh and sweet. I love that we can taste three different types of uni in one bowl. The interior decor with bowling theme was fun. Staff were helpful. Overall it was a great dinning experience.

Toyokan has both an upstairs (Toyokan Bowl) and a downstairs (Toyokan Plaza) which have different menus and different wait times. We came here on a weekend and even though there wasn't anyone in front of us - there was still a bit of a wait before we could get seated. The upstairs is known for what else but their bowls of seafood. I got their special sashimi triad bowl which had salmon, yellowtail, and sea bream. The flavouring was on point and the seafood fresh. They also have their house made soy sauce which was a nice addition. Toyokan has a cute bowling theme in their decor and interior which was an interesting mix with the Japanese cuisine. Overall a great place for seafood bowls, and I will be back.

We absolutely enjoy everything here. The ingredients are fresh, taste so good, and portion are decent size. I'm still craving for the food and couldn't find any good location with the same style of bowls/box like here in the States. It was absolutely incredible at the meticulous work the chef does to ensure portion, cuts, and taste on point. It was so delicious! Ambiance is fun although seatings are limited esp for large group. I would plan ahead and come early for waiting time esp on rush dinner hour. This will be one of the reason why we shall return to Vancouver, CA.

Updated special menu: We tried the tamago unagi, it was sooo good. The tamago is super soft. We love this place.

Every time I come, I can feel the professionalism and attentiveness of the staff. From seating to ordering, and then to the care during the meal, everything is done with great finesse, making me feel comfortable and at ease. The unique politeness and meticulousness of Japanese service are naturally reflected here. The food is also a reason I want to come back. Whether it's the freshness of the ingredients, the presentation, or the taste, you can feel the attention to detail. Japanese cuisine emphasizes the quality of the ingredients themselves, and Miku presents this refinement beautifully. Every dish is pleasing to the eye and has a layered flavor. I also love the ambiance. The overall design is simple, elegant, and has a very comfortable Japanese aesthetic. The lighting, seating, and spatial layout all create a relaxing atmosphere without feeling overly decorated; instead, they have a high-quality feel. As for the atmosphere, I think it's what makes this place so special. Elegant and quiet, yet not too formal, it's suitable for dates or enjoying a good meal with friends. Sitting there slowly eating and chatting makes the whole dining experience particularly comfortable. After several visits, I still feel that Miku is a restaurant worth returning to again and again. It's not just because of any one dish, but because the service, cuisine, environment, and atmosphere combine to create a very pleasant experience every time I come.

One of the best parts is the ever-changing menu of daily specials alongside the regular menu, so there's always something new to try while still coming back to your favorites. This visit we ordered the shrimp garlic fried rice, Agedashi Nasu, Grilled Squid with Garlic Mayo, and an assortment of sashimi. The shrimp garlic fried rice is an absolute must every time. It's packed with flavor, perfectly seasoned, and somehow manages to be comforting without feeling too heavy. It is a large dish and can easily be shared by 3-4, depending on what else you order. We also love the Agedashi Nasu here with melt-in-your-mouth eggplant wrapped in a light, delicate coating that soaks up the savory broth. Service is always quick and organized, even when the restaurant is busy. Dishes arrive as they're ready, making it easy to share everything around the table, which is exactly how an izakaya experience should feel. If it's your first visit, don't skip the shrimp garlic fried rice, and make sure to check out the daily specials before ordering. The udon in both the curry and rose cream udon was very soft and tender as well, tender than what I usually have for udon. If you like your noodles al dante I don't think it'll quite fit your taste but I personally really enjoyed it! As for the taste the spicy rose cream udon tasted exactly like Buldak Ramen's Carbonara flavor, and everyone at my table agreed. The garlic bread was nice tho. To be completely honest staff and workers aren't very attentive, the restaurant wasn't full and I could see the workers standing around. Our table had to ask for water multiple times. I made reservations about 4 months in advance. Upon arrival, one of the hostesses opened the door for us, and asked us to wait in a very ornate waiting area. We only waited a couple of minutes before another hostess seated us at the main seating area. The space is very dark, and only lit with candles while the rest of the diners trickled in. During that time they take drink orders, which is limited to sake, wine, beer and a few non-alcoholic drinks. Of note, they don't provide a drink menu, so we were a little surprised by the cost - the yuzu sake and the plum wine were $30 each. My non-alcoholic drink was $12, but a fair size. The theatrical portion started a few minutes later than the official start time - closer to 6pm. The shades lifted, the lights turned on, and the chefs introduced themselves. And from that moment on, they immediately went to work preparing our meal. They operate like clockwork to show the ingredients whole to the diners, and then preparing them, and serving them. Soon as the one dish was completed by all the diners, the next round came shortly after. Over 20+ dishes, there was very little wait time in between each. Each time a dish was served, a hostess was there to describe the dish and provided tips on how best to eat it. The food was overall was very good. I thought a few items were very average, most of them were very good, and a select few were truly outstanding. Most of the ingredients are imported from Japan, so I would imagine that it's part of the reason it's so expensive. This is definitely a splurge meal. I think half the diners at our sitting was celebrating a birthday. On the most part, the food is very good, watching the chefs at work is part of the entertainment, and the service is excellent.
