Second time here and all my previous grievances have been revisited. Came for tire rotation and balance and have waited 2 hours with no updates. I'm always worried to come back here because my entire day is gone whenever I take it for maintenance. Yet again, I have scheduled a rim touch up with my tire and wheel replacement plan and they told me to come back again (this is the second time they told me this). It's been 6 months and I still haven't been able to fix my rims with the tire and wheel replacement plan that I pay monthly for. Their progressive insurance within the facility also overcharged me with car insurance of 200+ dollars/month when I first got my car. I immediately switched over to geico which lowered my monthly plan to 100/month and was told my insurance cost was outrageous. Really would err on the side of caution here of this facility. She came back with the lowest offer outside of any kind of kbb range. After we mentioned our research on the price of our car, she said that "we're acting too emotional" and that we like our car so we tend to attach to it "features" it doesn't have. Wtf! Roberto Brito the sales guy at this location the worst sales guy ever. I went into this dealer hoping to get a highlander ASAP. Roberto Brito was my sales person. We went to look at the car I said yes I wanted. He went and got the numbers and came back on a 698 lease payment. I told him no way that I was sorry and that I know that it was to high for a xle lease with a 720 credit score. I told him my friend got the same car for 450 a month with only first month and dmv due at signing. This was when he was so unprofessional he told me that he's been in the business for 20 years and that what I was telling him was complete bs. He told me to leave when I ask to speak with the manager, saying the manager didn't have time to negotiate with me. He said he won't even save my info so that no one contact me. Truck towed to closest dealer (Hackensack) for estimate after wheel somehow got loose. Possible attempted theft. Estimate for wheel, brake, rotor, replacement of back plate with labor $3700 dealing with Joe at Hackensack. I said I am moving truck to a dealer and he said he already ordered the parts and you will have to pay for a tow. I said I am not working with you. He said he would charge 2 hours labor. I said for lowering truck off the tow and putting 3 lugs on the wheel so it would stay on I will pay for 1 but not 2 hours. I did end up paying just 1 hour labor and got my truck towed out of there by Jerico which provided great flatbed tow service. Estimate at my local trusted dealer in Hunterdon County was $2800. I'm writing this review on behalf of my mother who took her car in as a result of getting notified of a recall. The recall issue was unrelated to tires, however somehow she picked up her car and all 4 of her all season tread red line tires (which are expensive and were brand new) were no longer on the car and replaced with cheap tires. She called multiple times over the course of weeks and no one would provide an explanation or look at cameras to see why this occurred. I'm unsure how all four of the tires being taken off for no reason and stolen is acceptable. read more

There are not many car dealerships with good reviews, so I decided to ignore the bad reviews for Toyota of Hackensack and give them a visit anyway. This was a mistake. I have only ever owned Toyotas and was planning on buying another after being in an accident. I inquired about the availability of a couple vehicles before going in. I was told I did not need an appointment but I probably should have made one as they were busy. The first salesman we saw chose to check himself out in the windows instead of greeting us or letting us know someone would be with us when they could. There were a lot of employees huddled together in the office with several customers wandering around the showroom without being helped. Michael, a salesman, was really the only positive thing I can say about this place. He was running around helping someone but was able to stop and ask if we had been helped and assured us someone would be with us soon. We ended up being given keys to check out the vehicle of interest by ourselves until someone could help us. Juan was the next available associate. We sat down with him to discuss and the disappointment continued. First, they have a different price online than what is shown on the cars. I told him my budget and asked if it was possible with the car I was looking at or if he could work with me to find a car that did. I brought my boyfriend along for support, but I was the one buying a car. My boyfriend was actually getting coffee when the conversation first started. I was the one asking questions, I was the one interested in the car, I had the money, and etc. However, Juan would only address my boyfriend once he joined the conversation. We ended up walking out. Toyota makes great vehicles but I would not waste your time with this dealership. They act like their product is so good that they don't need your business. I wish I could leave no stars. Let me start of with this. I purchased my vehicle almost 2 months ago. My previous loan still has not been paid off. My credit has been hit for a late payment already and now my bank is calling me saying they're going to repo a car that I already traded in. I called my new Lien holder to find out if they sent the pay off. They informed me they already sent a check to Toyota of Hackensack. When I call my old Lien Holder, they inform me that Toyota never called them to get a 10 day payoff. So now they're just taking money. Also, when I try to call to get any information, the salesmen "Johnathan" rejects my calls and tells me to talk to management, that it's not his problem. When I try to call management, they reject my call and send me straight to voicemail. My new Lien holder, old Lien holder and myself have been calling them everyday and leaving them voicemails and emails and they have still yet to reply to any of them. We call them everyday, so there's no reason someone can't answer the phone, from 3 different callers. Also on the day I went to purchase the vehicle, I had an appointment for 1pm. Everything was done online and was completed already. I only had to come in to sign paperwork. How was I the very last person, at 7pm, to leave. Note, I live over 2 hours away so it was a travel to get there. I saw people come in after me, test drive, purchase, and leave before me. Also Also, mask were still required at the time of purchase and they had their sales team, and management all walking around without masks on. I work in the automotive field myself and I would never treat a customer like this. Let alone leaving them in the dark for almost 2 months. I should have read the reviews before purchasing because I would have seen the non stop flow of 1 star reviews coming in, that should have been a red flag itself. read more

UPDATE: Service manager at the location, Nick Latino went out of his way to personally call me and assured that he questioned all of his mechanics about the issue. He was willing to work with me on a reduced price for the labor, even though he pointed out the recall was for the passenger airbag and not the driver's side, so there was no need for them to touch the driver's side. He tells me he talked to his employees to find out if they touched the steering column, they said they didn't. So ultimately nothing was resolved, however, Nick was nice enough to follow up with me and genuinely seemed to want to help and I am appreciative of that! I slightly raised my rating because of Nick's courtesy. Ruined my car's steering during an airbag recall service, airbag light is still on but now my car's steering wheel clicks when you turn and feels weird. What should someone do after they bring their car in for an airbag recall and after they get their car back, they have a whole bunch of problems that didn't exist before? Toyota USA sent out an airbag recall notice, so I bring it into Toyota of Hackensack, and now, not only is my check airbag light still on, but the car is leaking oil, has a rough idle, makes a weird noise when you accelerate, the steering wheel is misaligned, and it clicks when you turn. I brought it back to them and explained the issue, only for them to say that the work they did had nothing to do with the problems I'm experiencing now and they want to charge me...even though I never had a problem with the car prior to that. Thankfully I have a mechanic I trust who can fix the issues, but it's time and money out of my pocket and it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth, especially considering that four other people, in my time slot alone, were having issues with the service at Toyota of Hackensack while I was waiting for them to finish looking at my car. read more

As of mid July 2019, they finally had finished with my vehicle and once I got it back it was infested with ants. They must've left the window open for 2 months!! I don't plan on staying in the area so I didn't do thorough research for a new mechanic. My battery was sputtering this morning and it was time for a maintenance check up, so I went to a dealer even though I know they overcharge you. Keeping that in mind, I ignored the price and was still appalled by the customer service. Firstly, they couldn't get my name right despite me correcting them, including in writing, on three separate occasions. I'm sure they never cared since my credit card still went through. Secondly, I asked about what could've killed my battery. They were extremely condescending and said I probably left a door open, left the light on, or had the radio on overnight. Excuse me, no. When I inquired further, they actually told me I probably didn't know what I was talking about. Thirdly, I asked for an itemized list of services rendered and they refused, citing that the "multipoint inspection" that was the maintenance was a comprehensive listing. Granted this was the cashier, who never touched my car, but still: completely unacceptable answer. When I checked later on, all that was really done on a maintenance level was an oil change. I paid them to turn off the "maintenance check" light. I would not recommend this location to anyone for any reason. Even if your car needs dealer specific servicing, go to a different location. read more

I do this because they have proven to me that they are trustworthy. Today I was prepared to spend over $1000 in replacing my rear brakes. My service agent (not sure if that is his correct title) Joseph H. was able to save the calipers which saved me some money. I am always very nervous when I go to get my car repaired because I am not knowledgeable on this subject. Worst car shopping experience yet. The sales manager, Michael, was nice but it was downhill once I met the salesman, Alex (Alejandro). He asked me some questions and I told him which vehicle I came to look at. He immediately went to the numbers. No test drive, no seeing what fits, not even showing me a vehicle, NOTHING! And since I wasn't agreeing with his numbers, he went and got another salesman, Robert (Roberto), who posed as the finance manager. Robert then tried to bully me around the numbers and ended up telling me to go to another dealership because they couldn't help. All of this without seeing a vehicle, possible test drive, and really having no knowledge of what I could afford. I thought we were beyond these antics but this was an old school sales scam. The worst dealership experience ever, Melissa is the worst sales person!! Very judgmental and didn't know the vehicle that she is selling. She charged us extra for all season winter mates for the car, which wasp part of the list price. Anytime we spoke about price, she made the ugliest face and looked at us like we were idiots asking the different price points. She wasn't very attentive or helpful, distracted by potential other customers and joking around with her other colleagues. This whole dealership experience was horrible, we were suppose to have 2 names on the car papers, they only put one down. Ran both of our credit scores and didn't put both of our names on the car. Had the wrong home address on the papers. The financial guy, was rude!! Didn't explain what we were signing and rushed us along. These guys should shut down!! Hello, I am a long time customer. The service has decline at this location: 278 River St. Hackensack NJ. Yesterday, went in for an scheduled oil change and less than an hour later my car has a huge dent and hole on the rear bumper. ( photo attached) I am certain it occurred before they changed the oil in my car. Mechanic gave me a vague explanation for accident and now I have to drive a rental car around, which I am liable for condition and have to return with full gasoline. I will never go back to get a simple oil change at this location again. A person's car is not just box on wheels, it's a personal car with value to each customer. read more

Pros: 1. Their service department is decent. I only do oil changes & tires here because everything else is way too expensive. 2. While you wait for your car, they provide a coffee machine, bagels, phone charging station, tv and computer station. 3. They now have buzzers to indicate when your vehicle is ready. 4. Open Sundays Cons: 1. Do not try to buy your Toyota from here...their salesmen are cocky and rude. They didn't budge on a price while another dealership did. Review for Service area ONLY I usually hesitate to go to the dealerships because they always manage to find some way to absolutely rip you off, but Toyota of Hackensack is one of those dealerships that has actually earned my trust. I received many recall notices from Toyota and many months later, finally decided to take care of it so that the notices would stop coming in. Do you and them a favor, MAKE AN APPOINTMENT if you plan on picking up your car that day. They will give your car the same amount of attention they give to other customers so expect to wait a while. After you pull up, a guy will take down your car's information (VIN, license plate #, etc). Don't be alarmed, he is only taking down the vehicle information and not giving any sort of diagnostic to your vehicular issues. Give him your signature to ensure the information he took down is correct and then proceed inside. This next portion confused me a bit at first (and doesn't make that much sense to me now either). It's a small office space with about 6-8 desks and everything is open. There are no barriers separating the desks. Your first stop is going to see the "greeter" on your left immediately upon entering. She checks you in if you have an appointment made/fills you in as a walk-in and then waves you in the general direction of the managers who will then evaluate what you came in for, give you an estimate, etc (stop #2). Your third stop is most likely the waiting room where they have stocked it with beverages and light refreshments. I left work early to attend to this appointment after calling Toyota of Hackensack and asking them if they had WiFi in their waiting room. They assured me they did and only after I arrived did they tell me that their WiFi had not been working since Hurricane Sandy. I completely understand that the hurricane affected many areas really badly and do not hold anything against them for that, but I'm confused as to why it wasn't communicated to me when I called to inquire that their WiFi wasn't working so then I could properly plan from my end instead of being stuck in the waiting room unable to do work for 3 hours. read more

Any dealerships goal is to get as much money as they can for a car, shopping for a car is always unpleasant, and I would rank a dealership based on how underhanded they are. Toyota of Hackensack is not as bad as others in the area, still frustrating, and you might still feel like theyre trying to swindle you, but they use fewer tricks, counter offers are more reasonable, they dont make you wait 45min between offers, and arent as pushy trying to trick you to pay for extras as the two closest Toyota dealerships.
