Unfortunately our wedding experience this summer was very disappointing. I want to preface this by saying that I was highly organized and had a planner who can attest to the complete frustration we experienced in the months leading up to the event and the night of. Pasadera (which changed its name to Nicklaus Club Monterey) over-promised, under-delivered and botched some pretty major details. My biggest issue was that we very specifically requested a Beer & Wine bar + specialty cocktails ONLY - not just for budget reasons, but because we did not want people drinking lots of liquor at our wedding for personal reasons. We also confirmed several times that there should be extra servers hired (we would pay extra) if need be in order to have 5-star meal service and wine continually refilled at the tables throughout the night. We went over it so many times, and yet on the day - served an open full bar starting even prior to the wedding starting, and throughout the night without anyone clearing it with me (the only person paying). I found out during the wedding when it was too late to do anything about it because about half of our guests had left the reception to go to the open bar. 1) There wasn't supposed to be an open bar and 2) Drinks were supposed to be served in the reception area, not at the bar. It really hurt the vibe and the flow and everything we worked so hard to set up in the main area (9 pc band, smores, etc.) just because they completely failed at the bar plans. The excuse they gave me is that it's what most people do so they didn't remember... WHAT? So all of those planning meetings.. were for what? Even more inexcusable is the fact that I clarified all of these bar details in writing, on the phone, and with multiple staff members prior to the event. After weeks trying to get some response from management the only consolation they offered me was to not charge me for the $2000+ in additional alcohol they served to my guests against my wishes (and in spite of our contract), and to say that we could come stay in their guest suite for a weekend sometime - oh great, like I really want to return for more. We really felt that our site fee should have been refunded as well for the number and magnitude of mistakes here. The list goes on..incompetence, etiquette and service acumen more on par with a 3-star hotel: Staff changed over 3 times in the year, NEVER received an accurate cost estimate prior to the event despite months of requests (excuses included staff not knowing how to use the computer program), Major music fest booked next door and we were not informed. All sorts of simply poor decision-making and task management: aforementioned bar service fiasco, water glasses were empty, they served the butter on the bread plates I rented, they asked me for a recipe for an hors d'euvre during my luncheon the day before (should have been done in advance! or I don't know, Google it- don't pull me out of another event I'm paying for with this type of question!), they asked me for a credit card DURING the reception (couldn't this have been handled before or after?), bride and groom got 1 glass of water, and 1 glass of wine at dinner and then servers disappeared, timeline thrown off by slow dinner service, AND to top it off at the end of the night we had requested (and confirmed!) that we wanted one of each of our entrees packed to go at the end of the night for the "grand exit" since there wasn't much time to eat during the wedding - the club packed up some random other low quality food and it was a massive let down when we got back to our hotel and opened it up - so hungry and excited to eat our special meals we had chosen - only to find out NONE of the food was from our wedding. We immediately called the venue and they told us that they had run out of our food or served it to someone else. That is very shady because 1) This request was in our contract, and confirmed, and 2) We had about 4 people not show up on the day whose meals had already been guaranteed, so there should have been 4 extra meals on top of the ones we previously requested. (Even if somehow there had been a food shortage, why not let us know while we're still there and ask us what we would like instead of sneaking in some random junk on the sly?!) It really punctuated the experience. I'll end this review here, and will expand on the wedding review sites, but just know that although the place is beautiful, and the people will say yes to everything, their ability to follow through is sadly below par, and their accountability to that is shameful. read more

Went here for my b/f's friend wedding and it was so beautiful. It's located in a very affluent community, never seen so many mansions!!! The ceremony area was nice and simple, however so many flies :-). The reception area was spectacular!! Had a few appetizers during cocktail hours, simply put exquisite... For dinner, I had the prime rib...ssoooooo delicious. The best food of the night was the dessert, one of the best wedding cake ever so far! Pasadera Country Club is a photographer's dream. No matter how hard you look, there isn't a single spot that isn't great for an amazing photo. This venue is a gem. I can only judge from a photographer's perspective, but I've also heard very positive comments from my clients. The ceremony spot is between a gorgeous 100 year-old tree, an amazing art deco fountain, and a rustic wooden gate. What imagery! It all melds together to create amazing backgrounds from any angle the photographer chooses. Warm sunset light adds an exciting feel to it as well. What's most important about reception spaces, in my humble opinion, is that guests have more than one room--large or small--and some sort of courtyard or lawn to move around. I'm not wildly excited about reception spaces where the guests are limited to that one space. It limits the photographic choices. An outdoor dance floor was provided. The large windows in the background and a stairway provided amazing photo opportunities. Big plus there. From a photographer's eye, I just couldn't find any downside to this venue. Nice! Greens were in great shape. Bit slower than what I expected. The guy said they punched the greens about a month ago. They were a bit sandy, but rolled nice! Food - had a burger! OMG! Staff - very nice and helpful! Definitely wanted to play more! I think a good course is one when you finish on the 18th and you say to yourself, "I'm ready to go again!" My wife and I hosted our wedding ceremony + reception at Pasadera this past September. Caitlin, Chris, and the rest of the Pasadera staff took very good care of us and did a fantastic job to help us pull off the perfect wedding! Caitlin worked closely with us to plan out all the details of the wedding and was our day-of coordinator to ensure everything went to plan (which it did!). Her team worked with our vendors to ensure everyone was on the same page and they also took care of our special (i.e. borderline-OCD) requests (e.g. furniture arrangement, centerpiece setup, welcome table and placecard layouts, etc.) exactly the way we wanted them. Chris and his staff produced delicious hors d'oeuvres - in fact, during the food tasting we had a hard time narrowing down our selections because there were so many good ones to pick from! I personally recommend the Ahi Tuna Poki on Wonton Crisp & Duck Confit Whole Wheat Taco. We received lots of unsolicited compliments from our guests about their dinner too, from both the vegetarians and meat-eaters alike. Unfortunately my wife and I barely had a chance to touch our Sea Bass and Beef entrees, but Pasadera was kind enough to pack it up in a to-go container for us. Even our cold leftovers that we ate later in the evening during the afterparty were still pretty gosh darn delicious. Another huge hit was the Mushroom Risotto we chose for our first course - simply awesome. Another great thing about Pasadera is that they're dog friendly! The only downside is that dogs aren't allowed inside the Clubhouse, so we had to keep ours leashed outside during the reception. Overall, I would highly recommend Pasadera Country Club to anyone in search of a wedding venue. The outside views are picture perfect and the Clubhouse/reception area has a look and layout that matched our criteria for a unique, yet simple and classic venue. My wife and I spent lots of time researching venues all over the Bay Area, visited a number of them, and when we got to Pasadera we knew within minutes that we had to book it. We did trade work for the golf course and played there a few times. Our trade dollars were frozen while they went through bankruptcy and our understanding was these funds would be usable once this was all sorted out. Unfortunately for us they did not honor their original commitment and we were told that we could not use our remaining trade balance. It wouldn't have taken much on their end to let us play a few more times. Left a bad impression when it didn't need to. Nice course, food and memories. read more

We have been members at the Nicklaus club since the very beginning. When our daughter was married there 10 years ago it was the very best event and so when it came time to do another big event we chose the club again. Renee gets 5 stars herself for her kind and very gracious help and the club has always had 5 stars in my book. read more

I had originally started working with Taylor as my wedding coordinator at Pasadera. She was awesome and so helpful and very professional. During the course of my engagement the Country Club had some turnover with staff. With the new staff that I had to work with they were not very easy to work with. The staff was unprofessional and very unhelpful. I couldn't even get them to call me back and the new person working there explained that she is not a coordinator and Pasadera no longer has an onsite wedding coordinator. With my wedding 2 months away this is very stressful for a bride. Now, they have lost some of the linens from my rental company. (and the rental company is about to charge me for them.) Overall, the food is so delicious, the venue is beautiful, we had great weather at the end of July and the wedding turned out perfect. I just had a bad customer service experience. read more

If we could give Pasadera 50 stars, we would. We were lucky enough to be married here this past weekend, and the day exceeded our wildest expectations. The venue is absolutely breathtaking. Don't just look at the photos on the website, go there and see for yourself to take it all in. The green landscape, majestic oak tree on the lawn, and the Santa Lucia mountains dotting the horizon will stun you with its natural beauty. Our photographers and videographers were like kids in a candy store with the bounty of amazing footage they got to work with. The only thing better than the beauty of the property is probably the wonderful staff. Taylor, Chris, Chef Peter and their crew have been a joy to work with these past couple of months. They did everything they could to accommodate our every request (and we had plenty), and helped us execute the day exactly to how we envisioned it. You won't find all of the rules and restrictions here that you'd find at other venues. You'll only find an easygoing staff that wants your wedding to happen how you want it with as little hassle as possible. And then there was the food. Chef Peter creates unique, delicious dishes using only the freshest local Monterey ingredients. They know how to do steaks right in mass! Our guests who had the filet all commented on how they were done perfectly to how they wanted it. You won't find dry and overcooked protein here. Everyone was completely blown away; my hubby and I are self-professed foodies, and he didn't let us down. All-in-all we had a perfect wedding at the perfect place! If you're looking to get married in the Monterey area, Pasadera is a must visit on your list. You can thank me for it later. read more

I was here for my best friend's wedding and it was a a great venue! SO BEAUTIFUL! The villa the bride and her family stayed in was so nice. They have a wonderful golf course. Such a beautiful wedding location! I am from the Monterey area and was dead set on a Carmel Valley wedding...until I went to the Nicklaus Club. Originally I did not think I wanted a "country club" wedding, but this place feels nothing like a country club. It has a very Spanish/Italian feel. We went to our first appointment with Lindsey and were blown away with how beautiful and classy it was, but at the same time very relaxed. We cancelled our other 2 appointments that day and booked shortly after. We booked our ceremony and reception. We held our ceremony in the courtyard and needed almost no flowers or decorations, the setting alone is amazing. We then moved into the lounge area for cocktail hour. There is indoor and outdoor seating - great for mingling. We then held our dinner and dancing in the main dining area. We ended up adding a band (The Money Band!!! Highly recommend) which limited our space in the room, but luckily they have an outdoor area with large windows that can be opened up to feel like they are part of the main room. They also have heaters and panels for rent to make it more comfortable. My favorite part of this location was that there were so many different areas for people to mingle and hang out. If guests wanted to dance they were in the main dining room with the band, if they wanted to be outside there were chairs on the lawn and kids running around, if they wanted a drink there was the bar/lounge, if they wanted to relax there was a couch area. We also had a photo booth which had its own area as well. We worked with Lindsey for our all of our details and she was great!! She always had a great, relaxed but professional attitude. Whatever we needed, she handled. I work in the hospitality business and to me, she went above and beyond what I was expecting, especially on the day of. Our Banquet manager on the day of was Primo and he was also amazing, as was his staff. I love love loved this location and will recommend it to anyone looking for a perfect location in Monterey that has everything!! read more

BRIDES BEWARE! I would give this venue and Debbie Monti negative 5 stars if I could. I was in the process of booking Pasadera for my wedding when Debbie Monti, The Director of Operations reneged on the contract! She claimed the Owner of the Club subsequently wanted to use the club for the entire month of August and that she would be canceling on other brides as well. I can't imagine a place that books weddings and then randomly reneges because the Owner after the fact decides to use the club. Debbie did not even have the professionalism to call me personally to give me the news. She sent an email and then refused to call me back. See below! The unprofessionalism of Debbie and the entire Pasadera owners was truly unprecedented. I worked for Tehama for many years and planned weddings for 4 before I went back to law school. I have never experienced a vendor treating a Bride who is about to drop thousands of dollars on a wedding at their venue this way. I would not wish it on anyone. When I emailed Debbie that I had already put a deposit down on a DJ and Florist and that I was going to be out money she responded that it was my problem. Never ONCE did she even say I'm so sorry. Furthermore, be sure to read the contract Pasadera has you sign. There are NUMEROUS errors and its completely one-sided. If they do no perform there is NOTHING in the contract that protects you and your money. Debbie sent me the contract with wrong dates, wrong time frames, and an Indemnity clause that protects only them. The contract reads as if it was written by a kindergartener. Also, their $9,000 venue fee is extremely HIGH and its limited to 5 hours only. Tehama is $7,000, Monterey Peninsula Country Club is $4,000, and Quail Lodge is $4,000 just to name a few. Not to mention their drink packages that run at $78/per person not including tax and tip. Oh, and don't forget the required food minimum they make you set when you sign the contract a year in advance. When I asked if I ended up having less people would I still be held to that food minimum the answer was yes and that I would just need to purchase more expensive food. Be sure to ask questions as the contract is a trap. I should have known as when I did the walk-through on September 30, 2017 Debbie was bashing the bride's taste. She rudely pointed out the bride's terrible selection in napkins, linens, and choice to cover furniture and the shields. All I kept thinking was what's it to you what the Bride wants, its her day and why are you talking bad about a customer. Completely tacky and unprofessional. STAY FAR AWAY FROM PASADERA FOR YOUR BIG DAY!!!! read more

Taylor is awesome at Pasadera Country Club, we had faced a complete disaster, 3 weeks before our wedding with no ceremony site. She was able to put it together for us and extremely accomodating to our vegan diet! She is a super nice person and also the site is simply breathtaking. I recommended her for the Salinas Valley Women's Network Annual Dinner and I heard it went off beautifully. Now, I'm planning a baby shower for a friend at Pasadera and Taylor has been great to work with, easy going and totally accomodating. Love this place!! read more

Our company held our annual Christmas luncheon here today. The holiday decorations were beautiful and added a festive atmosphere. Once again Chef Peter and his kitchen staff prepared a feast that was superior and left our entire office raving with compliments. The wait staff was friendly, attentive, and ready with the refills. I attended a company dinner at Nicklaus Club Monterey recently. I was absolutely blown away by the beautiful clubhouse. We were greeted by a server with a tray of white and red wine. What a great way to start the night!! The room we had dinner in was absolutely gorgeous with 2 huge fireplaces. Our dinner was delicious. And my coworker even asked for seconds. Nicklaus Club-Monterey is one of the most beautiful places that I could have chosen to get married. The courtyard is like a piazza in Venice: charming and welcoming. The fountain at the entry creates a relaxing, serene, yet old world appeal. The Spanish Mission style architecture was more than appropriate for the romantic vision I had for my wedding having grown up in California. The curbside appeal is only the beginning. As you enter into the club house you feel as though you are walking into your dream home. Large hallways, a living room with a grand fireplace, a view of the golf course, and regal couches, a bar/ small courtyard/ 180 degree bench surrounding another fireplace that is excellent for a cocktail hour, an event lawn ready for your lawn games or spectacular photos perfectly framed by the large quintessential majestic tree, but most of all the dining room that is so perfectly designed that minimal additional decor is needed to make you feel like you are, what my niece calls us, King and Queen of the evening. However, so far this is solely accolades for the physical venue. The most important aspect of this location is the event coordinator (Lindsey), the food and beverage manager (Primo), and staff. Lindsey is more than just good at her job, she is excellent. She handles each and every question/issue that is thrown at her. She communicates so well that she has an answer before you can even ask the question. The quality of her work is to be commended. Primo is genuine and giving. He will ensure that your event is sufficiently provided for. Nicklaus Club-Monterey... Thank you.... Wedding - December 2015 The Nicklaus Club was the only venue we looked at when selecting the wedding venue for our wedding. I live in Los Angeles but am from the Monterey Bay area originally and was browsing online at wedding venue locations near where I am from. I actually didn't know about the Nicklaus Club prior to wedding planning, but when I stumbled upon it I immediately set up an appointment to visit the location. My fiance, my parents and I visited the venue and were sold. It's a truly stunning property. Throughout the wedding planning process, the Nicklaus Club team were very responsive to all of my communication and very easy to work with. They executed the wedding day itself beautifully. EVERYTHING was simply amazing. Our guests are all raving about our beautiful venue and that the food was unbelievable. Renee and Lindsey were who I primarily worked with. Renee gave us our tour initially and is who we worked out our contract with. Once that was finalized, we worked with Lindsey all the way up until the day of, where she was the event coordinator. They were both very organized and professional and did a great job. I communicated with Lindsey almost daily in the months leading up to the wedding and she always responded to all of my questions, ideas, and concerns thoughtfully and promptly. This made the planning process so much more enjoyable for me and put me at ease because I knew we were in great hands with the Nicklaus Club. I can't recommend this venue enough. read more

We were lucky to be able to have our company holiday luncheon at Pasadera. The site overall is FANTASTIC! From the time you enter the grounds it is absolutely breathtaking. We enjoyed our lunch in the clubhouse which was elaborately decorated for the Holidays. All the décor is truly a work of art in itself. The Holiday decorations by the fireplace and the Christmas Tree really topped it off. Then we enjoy many wonderful dishes prepared by Chef Peter and his staff. From the salad to the desserts everything was delicious! They had a great variety that pleased everyone. My favorites were, of course, the" famous" cheese bread and the chicken risotto. The wait staff was great too. We never had to ask for assistance, they were already there. They were very attentive and close by to notice anyone who may need something. 5 stars does not say enough for this one! read more

We began our negotiations with a different wedding manager and were a little frustrated with her lack of response and timeliness. When Renee Russell took over the account, we were thrilled. She always called back or emailed us any answers to questions we had in a timely manner. She was a total delight to work with! We spent the weekend at the club -- had the ceremony out by the lake and the reception in the club house. My daughter made many things and had 2 car loads of "stuff" for Taylor, our coordinator, to store on Friday night and then put out on Saturday -- all with a smile on her face and everything done perfectly! Taylor was the complete package making our family and most importantly, my daughter and her fiance completely worry free on the day of the wedding which was exactly what we wanted. Primo, the banquet manager, was also there to help coordinate the staff so Taylor could focus her attention on us throughout the whole night. Thank you so much to Taylor, Renee, Primo and the wonderful staff for the exceptional food and services provided last weekend at Nicklaus Club! We had our wedding at the Nicklaus Club-Monterey this past May, although we continue to refer to the club as Pasadera, which is what it was still called when we began the wedding planning process a year and a half ago. Needless to say, the name change was accompanied by a lot of personnel turnover. While it was definitely challenging planning our wedding amidst that transitional period for Pasadera, the end result was everything we could have hoped for and more, and we feel confident that the team they now have in place will continue to deliver superlative service. We first visited Pasadera back in December 2012, and we immediately fell in love with the venue, making it the clear choice for our 200+ person wedding. Because you get exclusive use of the whole club property, there is a ton of flexibility in how you use the various indoor and outdoor spaces, all of which are beautiful and create great event flow -- we ended up having the ceremony on the lawn in front of the oak tree, cocktails in the lounge/patio, dinner in the courtyard, and dancing in the main hall. On top of that, they have a talented chef and a friendly waitstaff, and for all you're getting, their rates are incredibly reasonable. Despite all these positive attributes, we began to have some communication problems with Pasadera which resulted from the aforementioned personnel changes. That, when coupled with the negative review in December 2013, caused us to panic and nearly bail. We are so glad we didn't. We raised our concerns with Renee, the new event manager, and Michael, the new GM, and they went above and beyond to ensure that the club delivered a first-class performance on the day of the wedding. Renee is the real deal. She has a ton of experience in the wedding planning industry, and as soon as she came on board she brought a new level of professionalism to everything. She was always prompt and responsive and did a great job documenting every last detail of our event and making sure it was executed on the day of. Lindsey, the new on-site coordinator, was new to the job but always friendly and very organized. Michael, despite having a million other things to oversee, likewise took a very hands-on role in communicating with us and ensuring that his staff understood all the ins and outs of our wedding day game plan. He really impressed us with his warmth, sincerity, and commitment to delivering an exceptional event. Their efforts, and the efforts of the entire staff, certainly paid off. In the end, pretty much every detail we had discussed was executed to perfection, and we could not have been happier with how the event ran. The butler-passed hors d'oeuvres came out hot, fast, and in abundant supply. Dinner service was of similarly high caliber -- we began to run behind schedule, but the kitchen and staff quickly adapted without missing a beat. The bartenders were fast and poured great drinks, keeping the guests happy. (Pasadera was also really terrific about setting up multiple bars in various different locations and moving the bartenders around with the flow of the event.) They also partner with Parker-Lusseau to provide the desserts, which were to die for. We are really grateful to Michael, Renee, Lindsey, and the entire staff for working so hard to make our wedding so wonderful. Pasadera/Nicklaus Club-Monterey has a lot of inherent qualities that make it a phenomenal wedding venue; paired with the team they now have in place, we think it can't be beat. read more

Great course - a few very challenging holes; really smooth greens that you would see only at private clubs; and the fairways well-maintained. The new ownership is promoting their new semi-private offerings thats worth looking at. Great facility and nice hosts. I would go back again and hopefully play a better round. read more

I cannot express how grateful I am to Pasadera Country Club and its amazing staff! I had my wedding here in September 2011, and the planning leading up to it, and most importantly the day of, was absolutely flawless! Taylor Cady was incredible, always quick to respond to my emails and phone calls, even offering to give me her personal cell phone so I could contact her when she was off if I had any questions!! Taylor's friendly demeanor and enthusiasm for her job made it such a pleasure to speak with her on a weekly basis! I looked at other venues, but nothing was as gorgeous and classy as Pasadera! The food and beverage staff was incredibly accommodating and went out of their way to find and order a certain champagne not listed on the beverage menu. The chef had no hesitations when I asked him to design a specific dish for some of my vegetarian guests! The meals were fresh and delicious... definitely not your "typical" wedding food! Other people had told me to hire a coordinator for the day of the wedding to ensure everything ran smoothly. Regrettably, I followed their advice and realized I wasted a lot of money. Taylor and Brittany had every last detail exactly as I wanted it, and made sure the night was flawless, and it was!! Every guest who attended my wedding said it was the best wedding they had ever been to, raving about the classy ambiance, the friendly staff, and great food! Our wedding at Nicklaus Club was a dream come true! Renee, Lindsey and Primo were fun to work with, genuinely listened to our vision, and diligently worked to satisfy our every request throughout the entire process. Our photographer could not take enough pictures of our party in the beautiful setting and we were blessed to have a full moon that evening. We had our dinner in the courtyard by the large European style fountain and received endless compliments from our guests on how dreamy the setting was, as if though everyone had been transported to an exclusive villa in Tuscany. During the dancing, our guests were able to explore the many areas of the venue that offer enchantment such as the outdoor fireplace, large couches in the living room, large separate bar, or let their kids run free on the grass next to the beautiful tree that glistened with ornamental lights. We truly appreciate how lucky we were to have such a gorgeous setting and work with such an amazing staff- it made our night very special. Wow a tour for a member in the middle of a wedding That is Class A service. Then you tell the wedding party they can't come in to get there stuff out of the room and try to close the door because you are closed they enter the room and members are eating lunch. RENTED until 2 and you try to kick them out at 130. I would demand a refund I must say you are so lucky that my cousin and his bride were so focused on THEIR moment to catch your ridiculous treatment. Horrible to treat paying customers that really loved the venue like this. Do not recommend!!!! Unless you don't mind random people walking and taking a tour. Guess you have to be a member for that Class A service!!!! read more

This is the best of the reasonably-priced private clubs on the peninsula. I've played all the public access courses and some of the private ones (Bayonet, Black Horse, Spanish Bay, PG Muni); this course is the best of them all. I played in June and it was in terrific shape; lush well-manicured fairways and reliable greens that rolled true. The customer service was impeccable, the rental clubs were terrific, and the course itself plays great. I've played a dozen Nicklaus courses and they always destroy me, but this one was different. It's an obvious Nicklaus course but playing from the whites it was not as punishing of good shots as I've become accustomed to. I played right to my 14 handicap the first time out on it. Stunning views, great service, wonderful course. Plus the military rate is absolutely unbeatabe for the area. If you are active duty in that area and not a member, you should check it out. We recently had our company holiday celebration at the Nicklaus Club. The ambiance and service were excellent. The food was good. There were three buffet stations: sliders with French fries , taco bar with an assortment of meats (which was the best of the three) and chicken satay with asian salad.
