I read a handful of the other reviews for "The Club" and some were pretty terrible. I'm just reviewing my dinner and it was pretty great. This was a Thursday family buffet. I think it's a private thing for the folks at Pasadena or members of the club. Anyway, got invited, saw some old friends and got caught up. Dinner was braised short ribs, buttermilk whipped potatoes, butter leaf salad, roasted root vegetables and citrus polenta cake with berries. Delicious. Service was excellent and the whole place was clean. Nice. The bar is well stocked and the wine list was decent but the beer choices just plain suck. No choice but to subtract a star...just joking. It was purchased in November 2023 by Concert Golf Partners, which has the resources and professional experience to continue the many improvements started by the prior local owners, who over five years had invested millions into TCAP after taking over from Chinese conglomerate HNA in 2018. Under the guidance of a superintendent who spent at decade honing his craft at Spyglass Hill in Pebble Beach, the TCAP course is now in fantastic shape and features some of the best holes on the Monterey Peninsula. The front nine plays similar to a valley course, while the back nine has major elevation changes like a mountain course. Jump at the chance to play it if you get the opportunity. My golf buddy and I recently visited The Club at Pasadera to play one round of golf and we actually stayed in two of the rooms on premises. Golf course is amazing, in great condition and quite challenging .. FUN TIME! Rooms are nice / big .. but a bit dark. Rooms could use some lighter touches and, in one room, the TV was apparently not connected to cable feed. Regardless, management might consider brightening up the rooms! Overall, thanks for awesome time. BTW, we enjoyed a lunch in the mens reserved facility. Food was yummy and prices reasonable and service top notch! read more

I attended a wedding here last weekend, and I must say it was a delightful experience. The best part is the bar staff will gladly add whipped cream and a cherry to whatever drink you please. Unfortunately, they did not have Schlitz or any canned beer at all, so we were unable to get my favorite celebratory beverage, a Schlitz cocktail. But, like good seamen, we adjusted the sails and still were able to find a drink that works. I will turn over the rest of my review to my friend Pat H. who told the story of our pleasurable bar experience better than I can: --- "We were worried they might not have whipped cream at the bar, so we brought our own and put a bottle behind the bar so they were good to go. But when we came back to the bar after dinner and asked for whipped cream and a cherry on top of the bride's signature 'blushing bride' greyhound, the bartender said they didn't have whipped cream. I asked her to double-check, and she looked. I peeked over the sink full of ice and champagne where I left the bottle and it wasn't there, and she said they don't have any. So I left with my blushing bride without cream. I turn around and see a disappointed Bethany and Jeremy and they send me right back to her. I go back with my blushing bride and ask the same bartender again to check if they have whipped cream and a cherry for my drink like a crazy person, but this time her eyes light up and she says, 'Yes, there is one bottle!' Before applying the whipped cream to my cocktail, she holds back and says 'I thought I've seen everything, but this takes the cake' about five times in a row. Then she finally applies the whipped cream and adds the cherry on top and says one more time 'I thought I'd seen everything.' Then Jeremy comes over and says, 'Would you like sprinkles on that?' And unscrews the sprinkles cap that was up his tuxedo sleeve and shakes on the sprinkles perfectly. I think she had a heart attack." read more

golf course review: this is a private club, but they had some kind of "member for a day" thing going so a few of us jumped at the chance to play. so glad we did the course is outstanding, Jack Nicklaus design. some holes with long carries (one par-3 is all carry over a canyon. beautiful, but intimidating). since it's a private club, the golfers are really spaced out. we never saw another group once we teed off. beautifully maintained and all the staff treated us very well, even though it was clear we were guests getting from one hole to the next was sometimes confusing, but I guess if this is your home course you know where to go clubhouse, grill and amenities were top-notch. the mens' locker room was stocked with Jack Black men's products, which is pretty luxurious would love to come back, so will keep my eye open for another of these guest deals read more

Our wedding was August 5, 2017 and I could not be happier. After emailing and speaking with multiple vendors in the area we decided to meet with Debbie at the Nicklaus club. The venue does not disappoint on grandeur. You arrive to a beautiful iron gate and drive up through ponds and gorgeous greenery. The old Spanish style of the clubhouse is great! There is ivy, a beautiful courtyard with fountain, basically just gorgeous! Debbie took us on the grand tour explaining the entire wedding process along with history of the club. It was the only venue we physically went to look at and we were sold. On top of that you get the entire venue for the full day of your event. The price was way more reasonable than most other venues in the general area. The provide their own catering, liquor, tables and linens, and even extras like candles for the tables, and specialty chairs which usually cost more at other venues. Made it super easy to plan! We had a great tasting and even better they allowed both our parents to attend as well. They really made us feel welcome and that we would "own" the place on our wedding day. Even down to what furniture I wanted where. For example I was able to drop off all my decor, including two huge wine barrels, on Friday morning...come back Friday afternoon for my rehearsal, show up Saturday morning at 10am to get ready and then have my wedding at 5. To top it off we got to store our stuff there to pick up Sunday morning so none of my family had to stay late to collect things. I did not have a wedding planner and thanks to their lovely coordinators I didn't really need one. Paige and Danielle were very responsive to my millions of emails back and forth. They were there to walk us through the rehearsal and even pulled strings to make sure a treasured family crest was hung in the ballroom on the wedding day. The actual day went off without a hitch and Monterey delivered on the beautiful weather. Multiple guests came up to me and said this was the first wedding where they actually enjoyed the food! I should start by saying that I'm an extremely tough customer when it comes to event planning and banquet services. I worked in events professionally for many years at a prestigious venue, which led to me setting my standards very high. As a nonprofit director, I have planned events all over the peninsula, and I've seen the good, the bad, and the ugly. I'm delighted to share that my recent experience holding a plated dinner at The Club at Pasadera was exceptional. The staff was top-notch, and they went above and beyond at every possible opportunity. From printing a last-minute sign for valet (thanks Don!) to adjusting our meal count and seating just moments before opening the dining room curtains, every need was met. Our banquet captain Tony was on top of everything, and kept in close contact with me the entire night to make sure that we were on schedule, and that his team was meeting my expectations. Giving two stars because Nicklaus Club is a beautiful venue that practically sells itself, but shaving off three stars for our terrible experience with Debbie, which was the determining factor in our decision not to sign a contract with Nicklaus. My fiancé is from Monterey. In fact, he grew up just up the hill from Nicklaus (formerly Pasadera). We knew we wanted to get married in either Napa or Monterey, and Nicklaus was at the very top of our list. It should have been an easy sell, but our experience was sub-par from the moment that we arrived to do our venue walkthrough. Not only did we have to wait about 45 minutes for somebody to attend to us with a scheduled appointment, but Debbie's assistant came in her place, since she had no idea where Debbie had gone. That raised a little bit of a red flag for us given the five-star treatment we had received at all the other venue walkthroughs we had done up until that point, but we were willing to overlook it because I fell in love with that big oak tree and the beautiful open view from the clubhouse. After our walkthrough, our wedding planner (who is SUPER on top of it), immediately reached out to Debbie for a proposal, but didn't hear back for a while. When we did get a response, we received proposals that were never quite right, and had to go through multiple iterations before we figured we had gotten close enough to what we wanted and were willing to sign a contract. At this point, I was hesitant to sign because I didn't want to deal with Debbie, but my angel wedding planner assured me that she would take care of everything. Probably solely for that reason, my fiancé and I decided to move forward with a contract. The contract itself took forever to get drafted of course, and when we finally received it, Debbie had gotten the date completely wrong (one month off). I read through every line of the contract (being in sales, you read the fine print) and that's when the alarms started going off left and right. The very first issue I came across was the food and beverage minimum. I noticed that it was set at a dollar amount exactly equivalent to my estimated head count, which logically made no sense. My wedding planner thought that was strange as well, and after asking Debbie about it, Debbie said that she would suggest lowering the estimated guest count so we don't commit to a higher minimum than we would realistically expect. That was puzzling to me as it completely defeats the purpose of an estimate. What's to stop me from contractually committing myself to an estimated headcount of 100 if I'm actually expecting closer to 200 guests? The indemnity clause was also a cause for concern, as well as a lot of the ambiguous language surrounding the menus and confirmation of attendance. To top it all off, Nicklaus is EXPENSIVE. I had a bad feeling in my gut after reviewing the contract and decided to read Yelp reviews from other people (which I honestly should have done from the beginning). The nail in the coffin was seeing Debbie's abrasive and unprofessional response to negative reviews - in particular, the one aimed at Vanessa C. I can attest to the fact that Vanessa was accurate in her quoted pricing. If anything, my fiancé and I were being charged $1000 HIGHER than the venue fee Vanessa quoted. We are now getting married at Tehama, and I can tell you that her pricing was spot on for that venue as well. Ultimately, no matter how much I loved the natural beauty of this venue, I was morally opposed to tossing almost $70K of our hard-earned money at someone who had done absolutely nothing to earn our business. If you want to get married here come hell or high water, it's still an amazing venue, minus the weird shields on the wall. However, if you have other options, definitely don't rule them out. read more

It has been an exhausting time dealing with her and all the excuses as why she does not call back clients unless they are paying top dollar! We found out after all this nonsense & time loss that she works on commissions and holds out for the highest bidder. The place is Georgeous and most of the staff is friendly however, dealing with her has been a nightmare. (I've heard that she has a horrible reputation in the community & I should have listend)! I would not have posted this review but after reading a lot of the frustrated clients reivews and seeing that Debbie takes time to respond and argue back with all those "Not happy". It Urked me that she has time to do that but not time to get back to clients that are waiting for important feedback. read more

There are not enough stars in the sky to rate this place. I may be biased, but this is the best wedding venue in the entire bay area. The food and service is top-notch, the events coordinator is a dream, and the location is breathtaking. The club feels like a warm and inviting posh home, with unique decorated rooms to roam about during the wedding reception. The expansive lawn that overlooks the fairways is a blank canvas waiting for a little personalization. We hung lanterns and set up an outdoor lounge for guests to fully enjoy the evening's festivities. Pasadera also offers a mediterranean courtyard complete with towering oak trees and spanish fountain to hold your wedding ceremony. read more

Horrible experience with staff and members. Attended a recent private event in their grand room. We were indoor and it was so warm that I opened a door for ventilation. I was immediately confronted by a person sitting with a group outside. He shouted at me, shut the F'n door. Advised me he is a member and he doesn't want to hear the bullshit noise of the party. I attempted to explain that I was merely trying to cool the room a little and then he then his, I assume wife challenged me pushing the door with force to close. I was taken for a moment then a club employee "Tony" stepped in and got in my face... told me "this isn't a discussion, they are members" at that time the two guests called me an ass-@&$", then laughed - said to watch myself. I asked Tony if there was a manager that could calm this situation. He said no and walked off. What an unprofessional approach which left a very bad perception. Good luck Pasadera... you need a reality check in service delivery. read more

We had takeout on a few occasions during the COVID-19 crisis. But Friday night was our first time venturing out to dine on the Patio since March 13th. The hubs had a LIIT and I had a Grey Goose Greyhound. Both were refreshing & delightful as we enjoyed the surroundings of geese, a heron & the water feature. Bread was placed on the table with a container of butter & a container with flavored olive oil. Delicious. Next up was the ahi pole stack and the wedge. My husband devoured the ahi & my wedge was chock full of blue cheese and bacon. The hubby had the Dover scallops with had thick slaps of bacon & perfectly seared scallops. I opted for the special of swordfish over edamame risotto with shiitake mushrooms. I practically licked my plate. The tables are at least 6 feet apart & the staff is all wearing masks. So this is a great venue to unwind & enjoy nature's bounty. read more

Would NOT recommend. Terrible communication. I really wish this place worked out as our wedding venue, but that didn't happen. After my fiance´and I took a tour here about a month ago, we fell in love with it. After the tour, our guides said that Debbie Monti will be getting in touch with us to discuss a proposal. Unfortunately, this is where it all fell apart. Debbie was extremely difficult to get ahold of. In fact, she never contacted us unless we were the ones nagging her to respond. When she did respond, she always made excuses, and never answered our questions. It finally came to a point where we wanted another contact. My fiance´ called the front desk to ask, but again to our misfortune, Debbie was the only one. During this call he also spoke to Debbie (...finally), but the conversation with her was a dead end and very frustrating. Along with other absurd things she said, she explained how she couldn't help us because her priority is for clients who've already signed their contracts and paid. Wow... After that we decided it was best to look for another venue. I figured that if I didn't contact her, she wouldn't contact us--she never did before. However, two days after this conversation, she sent me an email saying that they have a food and beverage minimum of $15,000 (+ tax and tip = ~$19,000), and asking us if that was ok. I was so upset because she had never mentioned this before, and she had even sent us proposals that were LOWER than this minimum! I sent her an email, again explaining our frustration with her, and letting her know that we were not comfortable doing business with her, much less letting her take care of one of the most important days of our life. She was very unorganized, very unprofessional, and she wasted a whole month of our wedding planning time. read more

Sent out invitations and at the last minute get an email from Allyson Grande "sorry we have an HOA meeting the same day and time as your event we now can no longer accommodate you"!!! Then she has the audacity to say "do you have wiggle room for another day and time"? Really awful poor service and if someone is reading this looking to plan their special event think long and hard!!! I held my wedding here in March of 2017 and would recommend it to anyone! I read a few of the lower rated reviews below and I have to admit, that made me a little sad as I didn't feel any of that! From the beginning Debbie was great! She sent over the information we needed we did a tour, (I'll admit, we just showed up one day because we were in town and wanted to see it!) once the bill was set it was pretty smooth sailing from there. The weekend of the wedding they made us feel so special. At our rehearsal they took charge and told us where we all needed to be, what rooms we would be in and so forth. On the day of we walked in and everything was just as I had imagined! It couldn't have gone any better. The staff even stepped up when it came time to walking down the aisle and my wedding planner dropped the ball. (of course, I didn't know until after but I really appreciated that.) Guests are continuing to rave about how good the food was, the service and how stunning the venue was. Even after with a little bump in the road we had (not the venues fault) they were responsive and showed us how they cared even though the situation was out of their control. Debbie, Danielle and Paige were fantastic even when I was worried about rain. Both my husband and I couldn't have asked for a more perfect day! read more

Nicklaus Club-Monterey is one of the most beautiful places that I could have chosen to get married. Even though it is technically a country club, it feels more like a romantic Spanish Villa/Winery. We held our ceremony in the courtyard and needed almost no flowers or decorations throughout the venue, the setting alone is amazing. I love all the different "areas" of this venue! Our dance floor was outside under string lights and the entire evening was just magical :) Everyone had such an amazing time and our wedding was everything we could ask for and more!! More importantly, I cannot say enough great things about Lindsey, Renee and the whole staff at The Nicklaus Club! Lindsey is AMAZING and always put me at ease with all of my questions while planning across the country! My wedding day went so smooth thanks to the incredible staff! 6/1/2013 We had my daughter's wedding here with 200 guests. The wedding was held in the beautiful courtyard with fountain, cocktails in the bar & mini patio, dinner and dancing in the main hall. My daughter stayed in their on-site 5 bedroom villa so preparation was easier. The grooms men used the men's locker room to prep. All our guests were raving about the place, the view, the food and the service. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. We could not have selected a better place. We will always have good memories of Pasadera CC. BTW, we were also blessed with perfect weather. read more

Older negative reviews are clearly a reflection of the old ownership. The new ownership group, who took over in late November, 2018, have turned Pasadera around completely. Many of the new ownership group are actually residents of Pasadera. New staff has been hired, all who are professional and so very accommodating, and a wonderful new chef. Plans are already underway for some renovation and improvement of some of the infrastructure. We were so impressed that we are trying to buy a home there now. read more

Gorgeous! I attended a wedding here this weekend and cannot say enough about the beauty of this venue. The ceremony was outside under the stars with heat lamps and twinkling lights everywhere. The staff was pleasant and the on-site wedding coordinator was very efficient and had a handle on the event. The interior is one part rustic lodge one part luxury villa, with vaulted ceilings and large roaring fire places. The have a lovely old wooden bar and a lounging area that was perfect for the pre-reception drinks and passed plates. The room where the reception took place was "expanded" by a tent piece that contained heaters and flooring, effectively allowing an addtional 50 people to be part of the celebration. I thought it was a great choice of venue and it was gorgeous. I also note that we returned the next day to pick up our car (yes, we got drunk and took a cab, what else) and the grounds are even more beautiful when you see them during the day. While golfing will never be my thing, I can certainly appreciate the gorgeous valley views and rolling greens. read more

We sent three emails to the venue to follow up but still no one has responded! We fell in love with the venue from the pictures online, but the customer service is a total turn off. We just had our baby shower at Nicklaus Club and it was so beautiful and perfectly planned. The new Event Coordinator, Lindsey, is incredibly sweet and patient. It makes her the perfect coordinator and host to these events. She is also very easy going. My husband and I left all the details up to her and I don't think I could have planned a better shower myself! The club is beautiful and a perfect spot for such an event. Lindsey was detail oriented to pick out pregnancy-friendly foods for our guests. We had a nautical themed shower and she renamed all the foods to go with our theme. The foods were delicious too! I had mentioned our love of popcorn and she set up a small make-your-own popcorn and candy bar. I loved it and was so appreciative to have her handle all the details. It definitely took the stress off of this mommy-to-be's shoulders. If I have the opportunity to host another event I will absolutely do it at Nicklaus Club with Lindsey. She's the best! read more

My husband and I got married at Nicklaus Club on 6/8/18 and I could not have been more thrilled with how everything turned out. My experience with Debbie in the beginning and then Paige throughout the planning process was beyond seamless and SO enjoyable. I looked at several venues from Southern California all the way up to Napa, and in the end I still would have gone back and chosen Nicklaus Club every single time because of how beautiful the grounds are and how perfect the entire day was from start to finish. The venue itself is beyond gorgeous. Neither my husband nor I golf so I wasn't initially thrilled about having our wedding on a golf course, but you truly don't even feel like you're on a golf course while at the club. Instead it almost seems like you've been transported to Tuscany with all of the beautiful ivy and cobblestone. I was pretty set on having an entirely outdoor wedding, despite how unpredictable the weather can be in Monterey. We somehow lucked out and had great weather and sunny skies on the day of (a bit of wind during the ceremony, but nothing my maid of honor couldn't handle while she literally held onto my veil with one hand and my bouquet in the other, LOL). We had our ceremony on the lawn in front of the beautiful tree in the back of the club, cocktail hour at the small courtyard/indoor bar, and our reception in the large courtyard in front. Everything was BREATHTAKING. I still can't believe it turned out as perfect as it did. I didn't have a wedding planner and I really wasn't sure how all the different aspects would come together, but I was honestly blown away. And it really was all because of Paige. She went above and beyond her normal duties and I cannot thank her enough. I had a few random decor pieces I dropped off at the rehearsal and without even needing to ask she volunteered to set everything up for me, on top of coordinating my dessert table because I had cupcakes and a cutting cake being dropped off from an out of town bakery. As far as her actual role as coordinator, she was a rockstar. She wrangled my entire wedding party (including my husband's unruly groomsmen) during both the rehearsal and day of and really helped navigate us through the entire event. She made sure every single tiny detail was perfect and that everything went off without a hitch. Most of all, she helped keep me sane leading up to the day of. I probably emailed her a million times and every time I was met with quick, thorough responses, and nothing seemed complicated or too much for her. She seriously took on every task like it was the only thing she ever wanted to do. That's called job love. And I'm so fortunate and so grateful that I got paired with Paige. Other than the obviously wonderful staff and beautiful aesthetic of Nicklaus Club, the other two factors that drew me in and made our wedding so magical were the price and amazing food. Don't get me wrong, it was still a pretty penny for us, but we absolutely got our money's worth. Not to mention, the cost was way more reasonable than other venues in the area (and California in general). And the food...it was incredible. It wasn't your regular ol' wedding food. Everything from the passed hors d'oeuvres at cocktail hour to our plated meals at dinner were all seriously fantastic, which was really important to us because 1. my husband and I are major foodies, and 2. guests always remember the food! If you can't already tell, I had the wedding of my dreams and it was all because of the incredible venue and staff at Nicklaus Club. If you're lucky enough to work with Debbie and Paige you will have the best possible wedding planning experience you could ask for. And when you look back through the photos of your special day you will be so glad you chose this venue. read more

Unfortunately our wedding experience this summer was very disappointing. I want to preface this by saying that I was highly organized and had a planner who can attest to the complete frustration we experienced in the months leading up to the event and the night of. Pasadera (which changed its name to Nicklaus Club Monterey) over-promised, under-delivered and botched some pretty major details. My biggest issue was that we very specifically requested a Beer & Wine bar + specialty cocktails ONLY - not just for budget reasons, but because we did not want people drinking lots of liquor at our wedding for personal reasons. We also confirmed several times that there should be extra servers hired (we would pay extra) if need be in order to have 5-star meal service and wine continually refilled at the tables throughout the night. We went over it so many times, and yet on the day - served an open full bar starting even prior to the wedding starting, and throughout the night without anyone clearing it with me (the only person paying). I found out during the wedding when it was too late to do anything about it because about half of our guests had left the reception to go to the open bar. 1) There wasn't supposed to be an open bar and 2) Drinks were supposed to be served in the reception area, not at the bar. It really hurt the vibe and the flow and everything we worked so hard to set up in the main area (9 pc band, smores, etc.) just because they completely failed at the bar plans. The excuse they gave me is that it's what most people do so they didn't remember... WHAT? So all of those planning meetings.. were for what? Even more inexcusable is the fact that I clarified all of these bar details in writing, on the phone, and with multiple staff members prior to the event. After weeks trying to get some response from management the only consolation they offered me was to not charge me for the $2000+ in additional alcohol they served to my guests against my wishes (and in spite of our contract), and to say that we could come stay in their guest suite for a weekend sometime - oh great, like I really want to return for more. We really felt that our site fee should have been refunded as well for the number and magnitude of mistakes here. The list goes on..incompetence, etiquette and service acumen more on par with a 3-star hotel: Staff changed over 3 times in the year, NEVER received an accurate cost estimate prior to the event despite months of requests (excuses included staff not knowing how to use the computer program), Major music fest booked next door and we were not informed. All sorts of simply poor decision-making and task management: aforementioned bar service fiasco, water glasses were empty, they served the butter on the bread plates I rented, they asked me for a recipe for an hors d'euvre during my luncheon the day before (should have been done in advance! or I don't know, Google it- don't pull me out of another event I'm paying for with this type of question!), they asked me for a credit card DURING the reception (couldn't this have been handled before or after?), bride and groom got 1 glass of water, and 1 glass of wine at dinner and then servers disappeared, timeline thrown off by slow dinner service, AND to top it off at the end of the night we had requested (and confirmed!) that we wanted one of each of our entrees packed to go at the end of the night for the "grand exit" since there wasn't much time to eat during the wedding - the club packed up some random other low quality food and it was a massive let down when we got back to our hotel and opened it up - so hungry and excited to eat our special meals we had chosen - only to find out NONE of the food was from our wedding. We immediately called the venue and they told us that they had run out of our food or served it to someone else. That is very shady because 1) This request was in our contract, and confirmed, and 2) We had about 4 people not show up on the day whose meals had already been guaranteed, so there should have been 4 extra meals on top of the ones we previously requested. (Even if somehow there had been a food shortage, why not let us know while we're still there and ask us what we would like instead of sneaking in some random junk on the sly?!) It really punctuated the experience. I'll end this review here, and will expand on the wedding review sites, but just know that although the place is beautiful, and the people will say yes to everything, their ability to follow through is sadly below par, and their accountability to that is shameful. read more
