This is a follow up review for TR Construction, as they did a major construction project for our house a couple years ago that involved adding a whole new floor (with 2 bedrooms and a bathroom), new roof of course, and full remodel of the kitchen since it needed to be pushed out to accommodate a stairwell. 2 years out the work is standing up really well, we are delighted with the finishes and all systems (AC, electrical, etc) work really well. I am writing this review to commend TR Construction and how they stand behind their work. We had a small plumbing issue due to connection problem to our water heater. One phone call and Sal, the plumber who originally worked on our house came back out, remembered us and the project well (he knew exactly where the relevant pipes were and fixed the issue quickly) and today, the very next day, the plaster is getting patched. They even offered to patch the paint! I am very grateful to TR Construction and am happy we chose them to do our big project. It's nerve wracking to do large home renovations but having a good partner makes everything feel manageable! I recommend them for pretty much all trades that they did for us. read more

My initial interaction was with Diane and she was wonderful, responded quickly and was able to arrange for someone to come evaluate my project the next day. The gentleman who came, Clemente, was efficient, friendly and seemed very knowledgeable. He promised I would receive the quote within 1-2 days. That was 8 days ago. Over the past week, I have called 4 times to follow up and each time was told I would have the completed estimate by the end of the day. I understand that people get busy, but at this point it is unprofessional. Maybe my current project wasn't "big" enough to be important. But unfortunately for them, I am at the front end of several large remodeling projects on my home and I am a very loyal customer. We had TR Construction do about 1/5 of our tile roof, through a lift and relay, about 5 year ago. Very satisfied at that time, so used them again to complete the rest of the roof. Mike Hernandez came out and worked with me to set out a contract and the specifics of the job. Very helpful and professional process. Job was started as per contract. Jaime Galindo was the job foreman and he was very conscientious in explaining the process before they started and as the work progressed. The whole crew was very hard working and the job was completed on schedule. Did cleanup every day and left a organized job site. From what I can see from the ground, it all looks beautiful. All hip, ridge and wall openings were cemented and provides an artisanal touch to the roof. Final contract payment was as per the contract. Yes, I would use them again. read more

We called TR construction in regards to building a balcony in our backyard. The initial interaction was timely and very pleasant - one of their reps came out within a week of our initial inquiry to have a look at the job site and talk through our needs. He assured us that this was a project the could handle and that the office would get back to us with a quote. Unfortunately things took a turn for the worse after this. A week passed and we did not hear from anyone, so I called and left a message to follow up. No call back. Two weeks after that I called again and spoke with the woman who answers their phones and she advised she would look into it and get back to me. A few more days passed and still nothing. I called again and left a message asking if TR construction was still interested in the job, as it had been a month and I still had not received an estimate. Much to my surprise I received a callback within a few hours with a total figure for the project cost - somehow that became very easy to determine when I offered to take my business elsewhere! I told her that figure sounded good and I would like to see the itemezed quote to review with my husband. Well it has been another week since that conversation and I'm still waiting. At this stage the company should be working to earn my business and quite frankly their non responsive communication is extremely unprofessional so I have decided not to pursue them any longer. read more

If you're getting a large job done, you need to read this review as to why TR gets 5 stars. I've had big jobs and small jobs done before on a prior home, and have experienced great work, mediocre work, and criminal work done. My recent renovation job by TR Construction was large and included the following: 1. Roof replacement, with new insulation, radiant heat barrier installation, and facia board replacement 2. Complete exterior remodel, including wood paneling removal and replacement with stucco; existing stucco repair, and new weep screed construction and installation 3. Complete exterior house painting Here are the reasons why I recommend them: 1. They delivered incredible value, with a rock solid construction finish. TR clearly has the right skilled labor. I didn't think such a good exterior finish could be done given the mess of peeling and damaged stucco around the entire house (due to moisture damage from lack of weep screed...a symptom of 1960's construction). My neighbors continuously comment on how amazing it looks, months after the fact! Companies like TR generally only do commercial builds, because jobs like mine get complex and messy - you're dealing with an older home, and who knows what kind of problems lurk in the walls, in the roof, in the foundation, in the plumbing and electrical routing. So big companies usually pad the price because they don't want to deal with this kind of work, knowing that it takes specialized experience. 2. An honest assessment of the job, with upfront fair pricing - they noted many things as unnecessary costs that shouldn't be undertaken. Heck I spoke with Tony 4 years before I had them do the job, he told me to hold off on it for another few years, given the roof still looked OK. Who does this in today's world??? [Note: the 3 other companies I had bid on the job flat out lied about their abilities and failed to deliver on accurate estimates. Small teams clearly masquerading as big companies. One of them tried to sell me on aluminum siding for the exterior, when I clearly stated stucco was what we wanted.] 3. Prompt and professional follow up on any questions or issues encountered. No construction company is perfect. If you think they can/should be, then you've never swung a hammer or cut a single piece of wood in your life. They say that they are very busy right now and that the parking space is going to be a problem for them because they usually work with houses. My husband and I had a small roof leak that was causing a water stain in our bathroom ceiling. We called Tony at TR Construction and we got a quote within a few days. It was more than we had hoped to pay, but in doing so we alleviated more roof problems in the long run. Instead of just fixing the problem at hand, they replaced flashing on 3 other roof vent pipes that probably would have leaked in the future (we already had one repaired last year with another company). It was a 2 stage repair; ceiling repair and roofing repair. The drywall people were very professional and very quick in getting the work completed. It looks better than it did before the leak. The roofers completed the job very quickly and the cleanup was great. The only problem was a slight communication between us and TRC's receptionist. After we approved the work, we were told by the lady that we would get a call to setup an appointment. A few days went by and we had to call her to setup the repair date. Had a leaky roof. The ceiling fell down and the kitchen was a horrible mess. I wanted a pro to fix this and guarantee the work. Tony came to look at the problem. They fixed it and the place looked even better afterwards inside the house and the new roofing and new skylight. They line the floor and cabinets before working to protect the floor walls cabinets and appliances. They did a pretty good job of cleaning up too. Full service. Great value! They did a very good job re-roofing a very complex multi-planed, steep roof on my Tudor style house. Half the roofers declined to offer a bid as they did not have the expertise to work on a steep roof, and many gave bids that were two or three times as much! As a result I ended up having to get many bids; TR came in at the best three. I chose them for two reasons: they use their own staff so I didn't have to worry about contractors not being paid; and since they are roof specialists as well as a remodeling company, I knew they were capable of handling any unforeseen problems that could have surfaced on this old house. I was very thorough and careful in my screening process to make my short list, and just as careful in selecting the winning bidder. Just based on my screening, I already loved this company before they even started the job, and they performed as I predicted - beautifully! In more ways than one; I was an A.S.I.D. designer so I'm aesthetically sensitive. Anyone would be remiss if they neglected to get a bid from TR Construction for their project. The crew for my Roof Mark and Ryan and my exterior painting by Flavio and his partner and project supervisor Mike were always communicative arrived on time kept my roof water tight at all times. The way my home is- painters had to walk on clay tiles- and the roofing team picked up behind them seamlessly. i have rain gutters and they painted behind them without dismantling them and protected my windows and doors. They spent four plus weeks- meticulously working around weather and product shortage- tiles. They had to walk an entire roof side of tiles- because the tile delivery was on ground and not on roof. Nothing fazed this team. They are the best. My roofer used a specialized concrete colored to match my roof tiles- his own creation. All in all- TR construction should be your company for all your construction needs. Locally owned, they are licensed and bonded and never subcontract their work- they leave worksite clean everyday. God Bless them for taking care of my 33 year old home. I should say- I had no leaks or issues- just age of my home that prompted the project. I could never say thanks enough. read more

Contrary to the description of this company here, they do not do siding work. I just got off the phone with them and they said they couldn't replace the siding on my house. Maybe my house was too small or replacing siding isn't lucrative enough? I don't understand and an explanation other than "we are too busy" was not given. read more

I had TR Construction repair a roof leak in the winter of 2017 and was satisfied with the service. Three years later, I discovered water stains on my ceiling in the same spot so I called them back. They sent out the same repairman (who remembered the job) the next day. He removed the tiles and found the area to be clean and dry, so he removed some adjacent tiles and found a different leak (insufficient tile overlap). He fixed the problem in about 30 minutes and refused to accept payment. These guys are solid and stand behind their work. I'll be contacting them when the time comes to replace the roof. read more

My first impression of this company was a positive one, as the woman answering the phone was very helpful with getting me scheduled and answering any questions. I had just called to schedule estimates with two other companies before this, and she was the one that left the best impression on me - so you guys should give that lady a raise! Unfortunately, that was the end of my positive experience. The day before my scheduled appointment (which also happened to be the day after I scheduled it) I received a call asking me if they could come by several hours early since their estimator had a gap in appointments. I explained for the second time that I could not come earlier due to work, and I sensed a tinge of annoyance from the caller. The day of my appointment, the estimator was friendly and talkative, but what he had to say left me in tears. I had a smaller project requiring a wall repair and window reframing due to water damage. I had already replaced the roof above the wall, which is where the damage came from, but I now needed a team to come fix the wall itself. After the estimator did his assessment, he said he would go to his truck which was his "mobile office" to formulate his estimate. He returned about five minutes later and told me that the repair would cost me $10k! I was shocked! I asked for more details, and he explained that the wall was "holding the whole roof up" so it would be a very pricey fix. I explained that this wall was actually part of an addition to the house and that it had a completely different roofline so this wall, in no way, held up the "whole roof" because it didn't even exist when the house was built (Plus I had just replaced the roof above this room and I know for a fact it has its own mini-roofline) He told me that he knew what he was talking about and then proceeded to tell me that, because of my reaction, it was obviously out of my price range, so he wasn't going to give me a written estimate, which I find to be strange and dismissive. As he left, he told me that there is no way a licensed contractor would fix that wall for under $6k, and I should look into hiring a local, non-licensed handyman if I wanted to fix it for cheaper. I felt shocked and overwhelmed by this news, as this was my first estimate, so I did not know what to think. Fortunately, I had three additional estimate appointments scheduled for the following week - all licensed, bonded and insured companies with good reviews and good reputations in the San Diego community. Let me tell you - not a single one of my other estimates was over $4.5k! In fact, two of my estimates were under $3k! Elated and relieved with this news, I obviously ended up under contract with one of the less expensive companies. I'm under contract for $2.5k and TR Construction quoted me at FOUR TIMES that much! That's ludacris! I'm writing this to share my story with anybody else who may be feeling overwhelmed and shocked by over-inflated prices and false information. I encourage anybody reading this to get multiple estimates so you can make the most well-informed decision for you and your home! read more

I cannot say this often, but I am thoroughly impressed with this company. After gathering several estimates to redo our patio, TR came in as the best offering for the price. They are not the least expensive, but they are the best value for what you pay. I was nervous before the project began, because getting the job scheduled was an ordeal and the designer they contracted missed his deadlines several times; however, once the permits were in place and the work was finally scheduled, the experience was seamless. I like that the front office and crew are responsive; they take time to set expectations and communicate with you throughout the life of your project. Also, I am impressed with how reliable the crew members are. When we agreed to have work done on a specific day and time, the crew always arrived as planned, and the work quality was always excellent. Even after our patio was completed and paid for, they were responsive when we called with some follow-up questions and performed touch-up work for free. The foreman (Clemente) is amazing, and the experts they pulled in for specialized electrical and other work were knowledgeable and respectful. She was polite and nice and suggested to let her boss Tony call me. When he called me I had questions reference how financing worked. This guy is a money hungry jerk who has no time to explain or answer any questions. If you don't have money or make any inclination that you have money he doesn't want to talk to you. He was rude, and then said he was going to call me back but I knew he wasn't. If I could call him a few explicit names I would! His company was just the first I happened to call in trying to find out how things worked and he left a really bad taste in my mouth for contractors. Had a slow leaking 50 year old tin covered flat roof; 400 sq ft. Called TR on 12/10/2018 and Mike Sgambati, proj mgr/estimator, came out the next day. Got his detailed estimate of $3550 via email promptly 12/13/18 for tarping, tear off existing flat roof, fiberglass base sheet, smooth cap sheet, metal at perimeter, new pipe and chimney flashings, Johns Manville Dibiten modified torchdown cap sheet, and remove debris. As soon as weather permitted, TR (five guys) removed the old flat roof (3 hours) on 1/21/19 and Isias, roof installer, worked his magic 1/21 finishing on 1/23. Isias was amazing; his work is superb, and the roof leak has stopped. TR provides a 5 year guarantee. Other roofers were too busy to give an estimate or their estimates took two weeks to arrive. TR's estimate was competitive. Their office staff is very professional. Highly recommend. read more

Arrived early Monday morning this week and tear off crew had old layers off and truck was uploading new shingles and supplies to roof by afternoon. Roofing crew early Tuesday morning and had job complete by Wed noon. Clean up crew Thursday morning and total job complete by noon. Except for beautiful new roof you wouldn't know so much work had been done so well in such a short period of time. In my 80+ years I have observed many work crews operate in both the military and public sector but few of any could compare with the teamwork and efficiency I saw with our roofing job. so as most of you probably have experienced we had a hard time finding a general contractor to perform multiple exterior jobs on our 40 year old house. It took a few years actually, either they never called back or some other excuse, home advisor proved no good. I came to yelp and found these guys! I could write a book on how professional and wonderful the experience was. We had all that ugly useless ceramic tile replaced off the roof and damaged wood replaced also had falling down brick replaced. This was a 3 week job! First off the work was phenomenal but better then the quality and guarantees their work comes with, the workers were all smiling and friendly all the time like they really appreciated working for us. Taish was our site manager and this guy is amazing. He had extremely helpful suggestions for my family and this involved my mother. Between my mother and I there's no making us happy. Somehow taish made us happy. He's very polite, not arrogant, professional he knows his stuff, has productive suggestions. So yes they have subcontractors, the stucco guy was a straight artist his work came out perfect. We had just had solar done and they worked around all that stuff. We had our ducts and ac heater system replaced during their job and they worked around those guys perfect, always smiling. I really miss their team! The painters who painted the entire house were so easy going and professional. I'm an artist so i tend to judge these things and i always paint my own house and inside. these guys killed it! All at an affordable rate. The end cost was a few grand over the estimate but you couldn't tell how water damaged the plywood was under our tiles until you ripped them off. Taish personally saw too it that every single little thing was done until i was happy. And i'm not easy to make happy. We were spending a bunch of cash with him fixing up our old house we rented for ever until i moved back in with my family. The owners were friendly, my mother spoke with them not me, but again if the person makes her happy they are doing it right, my mother has actually read the riot act to a bad business or 2 in her life. This company made us happy fully. A few months go by and these really strong santa anna's came by and tore a few shingles off. I texted taish and within days he had a crew here repairing the issue and then fixing any other ones that might have looked like they could blow up in the future. Every aspect of this company was perfect from the front office to the nice cleanup crew! We will be using them again for future projects we have put bids in on and they come in not always the cheapest but close to it and to know i'm going to get this high level quality of work leaves me with satisfaction and not worry, very comforting in a crazy world.
