    The Capacitor that I returned to Trabuco Air.

    I had a terrible experience with Trabuco Air. Robert Decker who is the owner of the company came to fix my neighbor's air conditioner on 9/15/14. I asked him to look at my unit also since I did not feel a cold air coming out of mine. He asked me to turn on the unit. The blower which was located inside was blowing air out, but the condenser unit which was located outside seems did not work. The condenser fan and compressor unit did not making any sound. He then proceed to open the side of condenser unit. He checked the part, Capacitor, with Volt-Ohm meter. He said that the Capacitor was defective. He had a new unit in his car. Even after he replaced the Capacitor, the condenser unit did not work! Then, he asked me where is the circuit breaker for my house. After he tripped the breaker, the unit started to work. I told him that may be it was my circuit breaker not my Capacitor. His response was that he can tell a bad part with a just visual inspection! I don't want to argue with him so I paid $311 for his 15 minutes of labor plus a part ($25). After he left, I had a suspicion about his diagnosis. So I installed back my part with his new part. Wow, the unit worked! So I posted my experience at Yelp on 9/18/14 (Trabuco Hills Air). Robert called me the next day asking me to drop my review because it would hurt his business. He did offer me to come out and check the unit again, but he DID NOT OFFER ME A MONEY BACK! I just do not trust him. So I packaged his new part and mailed it to him by Priority Mail with Delivery Confirmation on 9/29/14 with Demand for Payment letter which I posted below. "Re: Demand for Payment Dear Mr. Decker: Please be advised that you owe me the sum of $222 because you made a mistake replacing a good part. I enclosed your part with this letter. My old part that I installed back has been running fine since the incident. Thus, I am willing to pay $89 for a service call, not $311 for just resetting my tripped circuit breaker. This will be your only chance to settle this matter before I file suit against you in Small Claims Court. I am agreeable to a lump sum payment. Please contact me on or before October 10, 2014 for purposes of settling this matter. If I do not hear from you on or before October 10, 2014, I will file a lawsuit against you without further notice. I will also file a formal complaint with the Contractors State License Board. It is in your best interest to settle this matter before a lawsuit is filed. If a judgment is obtained against you, it will negatively affect your ability to get credit, you will be ordered to pay court costs, and you will incur interest at a rate of 10% per annum." I have not heard from him. So I will take next step and post what is the opinion of a judge regarding this matter.

    Somepeople might not like Roberts direct approach, but one thing Robert does well is install Heating and Air Conditioning. We had moved to Orange County and about 2 weeks after living there the A/C went kaput! We called everyone even the places that claimed to be 24 hours and Robert came out and took a look at 9pm and said that if he could not fix it for under $200 the service call was free. He came by and determined the a/c compressor was shot and the 23 year old a/c system was not worth fixing. The landlords went ahead and went with Mr. Decker after they got a quote from someoen else that was nearly alot more then the same quote. I would advise everyone to read his website very closely and really educate yourself on how HVAC companies and Brands work. Mr. Decker speaks his mind and provides a direct approach to his business model and provides people with a quality install. Not only did Mr. Deckers crew show up ON TIME to replace the entire system, they installed it correclty. No cut corners, I never seen such a through job in all of the days I've seen HVAC people. I'm talking UV tape on all the joins, someone that actually screwed down the outside unit, even made sure everything had a clamp and screw onit. It's almost a piece of art. I would encourage everyone to give Trabuco Hills Air a shot, Robert isn't going to hustle you with the lies and threats, he speaks the truth without a filter and will advise you the best way to go. Our air conditioner HVAC unit stopped responding to our Ecobee thermostat yesterday. We called Capistrano Air and they scheduled a visit for today. They said it would be $95 just to come out for the inspection and the cost would be absorbed or waived if any work needed to be done. Jorge came out, listened to what happened, went up to the attic to inspect the furnace and found a fuse that had blown out. He replaced the fuse and was done within 15 - 30 minutes. Done. $145 out the door. I wondered if he could check our air conditioning unit to do any maintenance on it (which is what so many people say MUST be done once a year), and Jorge said that is not necessary. He said our HVAC unit is working fine and should be fine for the next 10 - 15 years! He said that the only "maintenance" that needs to be done is to replace the filters once a year (which is what we do anyway). He didn't try to upsell us on any unnecessary service or product. 5+ stars!

McShane was our technician and he's the reason I'm even leaving a 5 star review. He explained what he was doing and answered all my questions. He was respectful of the property, used shoe covers before entering, and asked permission before moving things around. You notice those little things when you've had a bad experience in the past. It is good to work with a contractor that stands by their word, sticks to their estimates, and takes responsibility for the final result. Highly recommended for their professionalism.
